Verda L. Pizzuto,

Verda L. Pizzuto, 91, of Millsboro, died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Harrison House Nursing Home in Georgetown. Mrs. Pizzuto was born in eastern Kentucky Nov. 5, 1912, the daughter of the late Milt and Belle Lyons. She worked for the Howard County Office on Aging in Columbia, Md. She was a member of Grace Chapel Church in Ellicott City, Md., and was also one of 12 founding members of a thriving Baptist Church in Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Paul Pizzuto in 1955, her daughter Elizabeth Young in 1997, her sons Guytiona Pizzuto in 2004 and Donald Eugene Pizzuto in 1942, and her daughter-in-law Carlotta Pizzuto in 2001; her grandsons Marc Franklin Pizzuto in 1992 and Frank Spencer Spurr in 2002; and her brothers Carl, Chester and Loren Lyons and her sisters Lucy Justice and Edith Howard.
She is survived by her daughter, Carrolla Temple and her husband Les; her sons James Pizzuto and Larry Pizzuto and his wife Debbie; her daughter-in-law Cheryl Pizzuto; her sons-in-law Skip Spurr and David Young; her brother Elster Lyons and her sisters Zettie Sturgill and June Smith and her husband Ed, and 47 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and many dearly loved nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 21, at Grace Chapel Church in Ellicott City, Md.
Lydia Esposito,

Lydia Esposito, 87, died peacefully in her sleep at her residence in Cool Spring on Wednesday, Aug. 14.
Mrs. Esposito was born in Philadelphia, Pa. and graduated from Pierce Business School. She worked for many years as the secretary to the dean of the Junior College of Valley Forge Military Academy. She lived in Philadelphia and Wayne, Pa., and most recently, Cool Spring. She was a devoted member of Malvern Bible Chapel and in the last year, Lewes Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her son and his wife, Dr. Paul and Dr. Frances Esposito of Lewes; and by her daughter and husband, Ruth and Dr. Chuck Broadbent, of Philadelphia. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Frank J. Sulkowski Sr.,
retired from Greif Bros.
Frank J. Sulkowski Sr., 87, of Lewes, died peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at Harbor Healthcare Center, Lewes.
The son of Helen and Vincent Sulkowski who immigrated from Poland, he was born Dec. 18, 1916, in Bayonne, N.J.
Mr. Sulkowski was a truck driver for 35 years before retiring in 1980 from Greif Brothers in Staten Island, N.Y.
He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church since moving to Delaware in 1995.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dolores Foley Sulkowski; five children, Joseph, Frank Jr., Marie, Donna and Robert; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
John M. Wood Sr.,

John M. “Jack” Wood Sr., 72, of Denton, Md., died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, after a short illness in Paoli Hospital, Paoli, Pa.
Mr. Wood was born Sept. 14, 1931 in Easton, Md., son of the late Charles Henry and Agnes Marie Cooper Wood.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. He was a heavy equipment operator for Bramble Construction Co.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ada L. Wood.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Catherine M. Wood; a son, John M. Wood Jr. of Greensboro; three daughters, Katherine E. Davidson of Lincoln, Brenda Lee VanPelt of Milton and Jacqueline J. Kohut of Greenwood; five brothers, Charles H. Wood Jr. of Kansas City, Mo., Edward Allen Wood of Dover, Robert Wood of Easton, Arthur J. Wood of Camden and Raymond C. Wood of Milford; three sisters, Marie Agnes Camp, Nancy Smith and Bernadette Gadow, all of Dover; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held in St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Denton, Md., with burial in Holy Cross cemetery , Greensboro.
Fay N. Mincy,

Fay N. Mincy, of Lewes, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, in Harbor Health Care and Rehabilitation after a short illness.
Mrs. Mincy was born in Tellico Plains, Tenn., Sept. 11, 1916. She moved to Lewes in 1948.
She was a charter member of The First Baptist Church of Lewes. She had worked at Frank Robinson’s IGA for many years and also at the Silco store on Second Street in Lewes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Mincy Sr. in 1987. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Allan H. Jordan in 1996.
She is survived by three sons, W.R. Mincy Jr. of Dover, Lloyd T. Mincy of Maryville, Tenn., and Dr. John C. Mincy of Antioch, Calif.; one daughter, Barbara Millman of Milton; a brother, John M. Jordan of Newmartinsville, W. Va.
She was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 17, at the First Baptist Church, 1001 Kings Highway, Lewes. Burial will be at Whites Chapel cemetery , near Lewes.

Phillip R. Caccamo,

Phillip R. Caccamo, 44, of Rehoboth Beach and formerly of Philadelphia, died at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mr. Caccamo was born in Newark, N.J., the son of the late Veto and Emily Caccamo. He was a self-employed hairdresser.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepson, Robert, and a brother, Richard.
He is survived by his wife, Ginny Forsythe Caccamo; his stepsons Christian and Jason; a brother, Joseph; two sisters, Mary DeDominick and Marilyn Hughes; seven grandchildren, Robert, Courtney, Harley, J. Rob, Shay, Casey and Hunter.
Services were private.

Ann S. Petka, 88, of Wilmington, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at Christiana Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, after a short illness.
Mrs. Petka was a lifelong resident of Wilmington. She had been a member of the Holy Rosary Society of St. Hedwig Church and the Rosary Sodality Group of St. John the Beloved Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Constantine “Gus” in 1980; and by her son-in-law, Jim Lindy.
She is survived by her sons, Bob and his wife Kay of Stoney Creek, N.C., Ed and his wife Pat of Rehoboth, Bill and his wife Debbie of Hockessin and Joe and his wife Betty of Wilmington; her daughters Betty Ann and her husband Jack Lee of Wilmington, Pat and her husband Terry Hammond of New Castle, and Constance Lindy of Middletown. She was “Baci” to 20 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were held at St. Hedwig Catholic Church, Wilmington, with entombment in the Crypt of St. Hedwig in Cathedral cemetery.

Marjorie A. Scott, 75, of Rehoboth Beach, and formerly of the Pittsburgh and Media, Pa. areas, died Thursday, August 12, 2004, at home.
She was a member of Sussex Pines Golf Club, loved arts and crafts, was an avid reader, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Scott; sisters, Betty Lee Blume and Jean Davis; and a brother, Peter Schneider.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, David Scott; five daughters, Kathleen and husband, Glenn Buckhout of Stormville, N.Y, Christine and her husband, Bill Melnyk of East Fallowfield, Pa., Dianne Molineux of Claymont, Carol and her husband, Gerald McCadden of Chalfont, Pa., Pam and her husband, John Groses of Media, Pa.; one son, David Scott Jr. of Winchester, Va.; one sister, Elaine and husband, Don Bowser of Kilmarnock, Va.; one brother-in-law, Walter Blume; and 11 grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 17, at the Chapel of the Delaware Veterans cemetery
South in Millsboro.

Margaret C. Robinson,
retired bookkeeper
Margaret C. (Brett) Robinson, age 94, of Rehoboth Beach, died Tuesday, August 10, 2004, at Lewes Convalescent Center in Lewes.
Mrs. Robinson was born June 3, 1910 in Wilmington, and had worked there as a secretary and bookkeeper at Matthews Brothers. She retired to Ormond Beach, Fla. in 1974 with her husband Carl F. Brett . Following the death of Mr. Brett in 1975, Margaret moved to Clearwater, Fla. in 1976. There she was a member of St. Brendan’s Catholic Church and St. Brendan’s Womans Guild.
Mrs. Robinson is survived by three sons, Carl F. Brett Jr. of Dover; Walt A. Brett of Rehoboth Beach and Palm City, Fla. and Paul J. Brett of Williamsburg, Md; two daughters, Margaret B. Smith of Bel Air, Md. and Joan A. Mayhart of Dover; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Services and burial were private.

George Quigley Williams,
retired geologist
Dr. George Q. Williams of Lewes, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, surrounded by his devoted family.
Born August 23, 1919 in Jersey Shore, Pa., he was the son of the late George W. Williams and Lillian Quigley Williams.
He graduated from Williamsport High School (PA) in 1937, then attended Penn State University. The family moved to New York, where he continued his studies at the University of Rochester, earning a bachelor of arts degree. He attended Midshipman School at Columbia University in New York City, entering the U.S. Navy as an ensign, and was stationed at Pearl Harbor until 1945. After release from active duty, he remained in the Naval Reserve until 1979, retiring as Lt. Cmdr.
Returning to the University of Rochester, he received a master of science degree. In 1951 at Cornell University, where he also taught undergraduate geology classes, he earned a doctor of philosophy degree in geology (sedimentology/stratigraphy).
His employment with Texaco took him to the oilfields of Kansas and Illinois. In I960 he moved to Arlington, Va., working in Washington, D.C. for the U.S. Government’s Defense Fuel Supply Agency. He later transferred to the Dept. of Energy (Strategic Petroleum Reserve). He retired from Federal service in 1981 and relocated to the Delaware shore.
Since childhood, he was a passionate philatelist and enjoyed sharing this hobby with collectors and friends around the world. Bowling and traveling were other favorite pursuits, and he also enjoyed raising tropical fish. He will be remembered by all as a storyteller extraordinare and for his sense of humor.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Dolores, of Lewes; daughters Hollis B. Williams of Arlington Va., and Janet Myers and her husband, Alton, of Mooresville, N.C.; grandchildren Chris Myers and his wife, Jenny, of Christiansburg Va., and Angie McFarland and her husband, Brian, of Roanoke VA; and several beloved cousins in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.
