David K. SLATER

David K. Slater Age 75, died February 12, 2005 in Wilmington, DE following a long illness.

Son of Norman and Elizabeth (Burkhart) Slater, Dave spent his youth in Reamstown, PA and graduated from East Cocalico High School in 1947.

Graduating from Millersville University in 1951, Dave entered the U.S. Navy, serving in New Orleans, LA; Guam; and aboard the USS Manchester.

Following separation from the Navy, Dave began a career as a social studies teacher in the Alfred I. duPont School District.

After graduating from the University of Delaware with a master's degree in school administration, Dave served as an assistant principal at Forwood and Talley Junior High Schools.

Upon retirement, Dave was an active participant in the Lifelong Learning programs of the University of Delaware.

Dave is survived by his wife, Anne (Canty) Slater; daughter Elizabeth Moorhead; sister, Mae Wingenroth; sister-in-law, Lillian Slater; and nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial Service at Salem U.C.C., Church St., Reamstown, PA 17567, in Lancaster County on Saturday, February 19, at 11 am with Rev. Stephen E. Hollinger officiating.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in memory of David to his church.

Joseph Bookman

Age 55, went home to be with the Lord August 17, 2006 at his home. Beloved husband of Tamara Bookman. Beloved father of Shorn Bookman & Joseph Bookman, Jr. Son of Mamie Wilkins & the late George Bookman. Brother of Barry James (Kelley), Wendy Wilkins & Cynthia Miller. Son-in-law of Betty Lou & Phillip Austin. Also survived by 4 grandchildren, Unique, Bryan, Brittany & JáShya; & a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. Mr. Bookman worked as an accountant for DSCP in Philadelphia, PA. He was a member of Prince Hall Masons. Masonic ceremony will be 6-8 pm on Wednesday, August 23, at CONGO FUNERAL HOME, 2317 N. Market St., Wilmington. Homegoing Service will be 11:30 am, Thursday, August 24, at The Resurrection Center, 3301 N. Market St., Wilmington, where viewing will be from 9-11 am only. Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery.

Antoine D. Chavis

Age 20 of Salisbury, MD, died August 14, 2006 in Cumberland, MD. Service 1 pm on Tuesday, August 22, at BENNIE SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 917 W. Isabella St., Salisbury, where friends may view 1 hour prior to service.

Joseph E. Myers

passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2006.

Husband of Mary Henry Myers of Glen Mills, PA. Father of Timothy and George Myers.

A memorial service will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, August 26, 2006, at Media Presbyterian Church, 30 E. Baltimore Avenue, Media, PA, where friends may call after 2 pm. Interment is private.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to Media Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 20 E. State Street, Media, PA 19063.

Leroy B. Myers "Roy"

Mr. Leroy B. "Roy" Myers, age 79, of Elkton, MD, left this life and went to the Lord on Friday, August 4, 2006, while at Union Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, following a long and courageous bat-tle.

Roy was born July 9, 1927 in Williamsport, MD. He proudly served his country as a staff sergeant in the US Air Force, retiring from military service in September 1965. He was then employed by Scott Tissue Co., in Chester, PA, until he retired in 1988. Roy enjoyed working part-time as a security guard during his retire-ment. We will always remember and cherish Roy for the great love and attention he gave to his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His passions in life were gardening, fishing, camping with his family, and a good cup of joe.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 31 years, Peggy S. Myers, of Elkton; his 3 daughters, Joy Foraker and Angie Cerasari, both of Wilmington, DE, and Helen Phillips, and her husband, Bob, of North East, MD; 2 stepsons, Charles and Barry; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Catherine, Lu-Lu and Dorothy; and a brother, Paul. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lester.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Thursday, August 10, 2006, at the SPICER-MULLIKIN FUNERAL HOME, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where friends may call after 10:30 am. Interment with military honors will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted for the family by the Church of Christ, 955 Blue Ball Road, Elkton, MD 21921.

Vivian Lloyd Vernon

Vivian Lloyd Vernon, age 90, of Kennedyville, MD, formerly of Wilmington Manor, died August 5, 2006, as a result of an automobile accident, along with her faithful companion, Bear, a yellow Labrador.

Vivian was born March 11, 1916 in Claymont, DE, daughter of the late Raymond Lloyd, Sr. and Margaret Bratton Lloyd. For many years, she worked as a buyer for Finkel's, in Wilmington, retiring at the age of 75. In 2002, she moved to Kennedyville to be near her brother.

She is survived by her brother, Raymond Lloyd, Jr., and his wife, Barbara, of Kennedyville, MD.

Friends may call from 10:30-11:30 am on Thursday, August 10, at the GALENA FUNERAL HOME of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, MD. The funeral service will follow at 12 noon at Shrewsbury Parish Church, 12824 Shrewsbury Church Rd., Kennedyville, MD. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

For her love of animals, memorials may be offered to the Humane Society of Kent County, 10720 Augustine Herman Hwy., Chestertown, MD 21620.

Ruth Naomi Campbell

Of Lewes, DE, passed away Friday, August 11, 2006, at Christiana Medical Center in Christiana. She was 81.

She was born in Reading, PA, daughter of the late Clayton and Gertrude Beavens Snyder. She was a clockmaker and also enjoyed repairing clocks and doing crossword puzzles. Mrs, Campbell was a member of the Milton Wesleyan Church and had taught Sunday School for 47 years and was also a member of the American Horology Association.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Walter R. Campbell. Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Nancy Campbell of Napa, CA; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Ron Harbeson of Newark, DE; 2 grandsons, Matt Campbell and Jonathan Harbeson; 5 brothers, Carl Snyder of PA, Pete Snyder and Paul Snyder, both of FL, Andy Snyder and David Snyder, both of PA; 3 sisters, Helen Smith of DE, Mary Brubacher of PA and Vi Napoli of WA; and close friend, Linda Quinlan of Lewes, DE.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 15, 2006, at 7 pm at the chapel of SHORT FUNERAL SERVICES, 416 Federal Street, Milton, where friends may call after 6 pm. Interment will be private in the Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery.

Flowers are accepted or contributions may be made to the Milton Wesleyan Church, 411 Union Street, Milton, DE 19968.

Dr. Paul E. Oberdorfer, Jr.

Age 81 of Wilmington, DE, died Wednesday, August 9, 2006.

Born in Lancaster, OH, he was the son of Paul E. Oberdorfer, Sr. and his wife, Helen. He entered the Navy V5 program after graduating from Lancaster High School in 1943. He served in the Navy in the Pacific Theatre of World War II until 1945. After the war, he completed his BS (1949) and Doctorate (1954) degrees in organic chemistry and automotive engineering at Ohio State University. His life's work used these degrees to the fullest in benefiting the public. He began his career with the DuPont Company, and later joined the Sun Oil Company, where he was Director of Basic Research. He was the recipient of many industrial and national awards for his contributions to the automotive industry. He holds patents used by auto manufacturers today. He was a member of the American Chemical Society Research Board and was honored by the American Chemical Society in 2004 for 50 years of service. As a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and the American Geological Society, he spoke frequently at meetings concerning his constant research for automotive improvements. He was a consultant to the Environmental Protection Agency under President Nixon. After retirement, he worked with SCORE giving advice and assistance to those hoping to start new businesses. At age 80, he completed instruction in road racing at Bondurant School of High Performance Driving in Chandler, AZ. He enjoyed participating in the Porsche Club of America and driving his Porsche in scheduled events at many raceways across the country. He loved music and sang with the Barbershop Quartet Society Chorus and many church choirs.

He is survived by Marcella Oberdorfer, his wife of 59 years; their sons, Paul Oberdorfer, III of Virginia Beach, VA and John Oberdorfer and his wife, Michelle, of Tempe, AZ; daughter, Mary Lee Laird and her husband, Clinton, of Wilmington, DE and Helen Lannon and her husband, Thomas, of Phoenix, AZ; 11 grandchildren, Paul, IV, Gretchen, Penelope and Cecilia Oberdorfer of Tempe, AZ, Clinton, Matthew, Madeline and Julia Laird of Wilmington, DE, Thomas, Jr. and Bridget Lannon of Phoenix, AZ and Mary Katherine Lannon of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by his sister, Virginia Hart of Ocala, FL and her family.

Requiem Mass and burial will be private. Friends may call Tuesday, August 15, 2006, from 4:30-6:30 pm at the Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pk., Wilmington.
