Frederick Giroud, Sr.

Frederick Giroud, Sr., age 91, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2006, at Christiana Hospital.

He was born September 20, 1914 to French immigrants, Alice Dupuis and Louis Giroud, in Bridgeport, CT. Freddy lived a wonderful life and was active until the day he died. Known for his great sense of humor and quick wit, he constantly entertained his friends and family. After studying horticulture at Penn State University, he worked for the Lamotte duPont Copeland estate, and was later employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad during WWII as a conductor. He was the owner of Fred Giroud Construction Company for over 60 years, until retiring at age 90. A charter member, and having served on the board of directors, Fred remained an active member of Cavaliers Country Club for over 45 years. His additional interests included being a longtime member and past president of the Greenhill Lions Club, a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. Fred had a lifelong love of flying and was a licensed pilot for many, many years. He also was a past member of the Civil Air Patrol, attaining the rank of captain.

He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Giroud Cook, of Hockessin; his children, Frederick Giroud, Jr., and his wife, Joan, of Wilmington, Carol Ann Giroud Rose, and her husband, Richard, of Charleston, SC, Kathy Lynn Giroud O'Connor, of New Castle; his loving companion, Barbara Walker, of Wilmington; along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed and never forgotten.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Elsmere, on Thursday, July 6th, at 10 am. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, July 5th, from 6-8 pm. Interment will be in Silverbrook cemetery, in Wilmington, DE.

William Bradley Jennings

William Bradley Jennings, age 51, of Preston, MD, passed away suddenly on Friday, June 30, 2006, at his residence.

Mr. Jennings was born May 25, 1955 in Washington, DC, son of Joan (Harper) Jennings,of Lewes, DE, and the late William Francis Jennings. Mr. Jennings was currently employed by Zodiac of North America, in Kent Island, MD, for 23 years, where he was a marketing representative. He was a world traveller and he enjoyed deep sea fishing.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sister, Jill Walbert, of Salisbury, MD; and a special friend, Cindy Lopez, of CA.

A prayer service will be held on Thursday, July 6, at 2 pm, at PARSELL FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATORIUM, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE, where friends may call 1 hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in St. Peter's cemetery, Pilottown Road, in Lewes, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, 1151 Walker Road, Suite 202, Dover, DE 19901.

Robert W. Marsh

Robert W. Marsh, age 82, of Wilmington, DE, died after a short illness on Thursday, June 29, 2006, at Christiana Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Marsh was born in Minneapo-lis, MN, son of the late Ralph A. and Ida Marsh. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the OSS and earned the rank of technical sergeant. After the war, he attended Penn State University and graduated in 1948 with a degree in journalism. After graduation, he was a copy writer and announcer for Wilmington radio station WDEL 1150 AM. He was later employed for 23 years by Atlas Chemical Inc., which was to become ICI Americas. Much of his career was spent as a marketing communications manager. Mr. Marsh was an avid writer, who had 3 novels published and contributed many articles to industry trade journals.

In his retirement, he, his wife, and their companion dogs traveled extensively and in 1992, crossed the country in their Airstream trailer. He and his wife were members of the Diamond State German shepherd Dog Club, and enjoyed training and showing their dogs. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, and served his community be delivering Meals on Wheels and being involved in the pet therapy program at the Ronald McDonald House.

He is survived by his wife, Anne D. Marsh; daughters, Joan Grace Sparks, and her husband, Lee Sparks, IV, of Wilmington, DE, Barbara Marsh, and her husband, Thomas Mammarella, of Newark, DE, and Carol Daviss Marsh, and her husband, Tim Fretz, of Washington, DC; son, William Arthur Marsh, and his wife, Barbara, of Middletown, DE; and 7 grandchildren.

Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.

Marshall, Jr., Anthony Nock & Consuela Y. Jacobs. Brother of Virginia Doldren, Barbara Marshall, Carolyn Jones & John Marshall. Also 4 grandchildren. Mr. Phillip worked for Grubb Lumber.

Blanche E. Sobieski (Lutrzykowski)

Age 93 of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2006, at St. Francis Hospital.

She was a lifelong resident of Wilmington, a homemaker, and a member of St. Hedwig Catholic Church.

She is survived by sons, John F. Sobieski, and his wife, Ellen, of Lewes, and Ronald F. Sobieski, of Wilmington; daughter, Bernadette E. Sobieski, also of Wilmington; 5 grandchildren and their spouses, Kim and Gino Daniello, Pamela and Rick Murphy, Melissa and Walt Thompson, John F. and Michele Sobieski, III, and Robert D. and Lisa Sobieski; 10 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, John F. Sobieski, Sr., in 1988; 1 brother, William Lutrzy-kowski; and sisters, Mary Kaczorowski and Helen Czerwinski.

Visitation will be after 9:30 am on Thursday, July 6, at the JOHN F. YASIK FUNERAL HOME, 607 S. Harrison St., Wilmington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Thursday at St. Hedwig Catholic Church, 408 S. Harrison St., Wilmington, DE 19805, followed by entombment in the Crypt of St. Hedwig, in Cathedral cemetery.

The family requests memorial contributions to the St. Hedwig School Fund.

Ford Smith Spencer

Ford Smith Spencer, age 81, of Wilmington, DE, died July 1, 2006, peacefully at home.

He was born June 25, 1925 in White Top, VA. He served in the Navy During WWII, and retired from Ferrolly and Auto Metric. He was a member of the Cathedral Church of St. John for over 50 years. His hobbies included working on his cars and gardening. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, Hershel Gwen and Margaret Alice Spencer; brother John William Spencer; and sister, Vadah Lorraine Thompson. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Anna Cross Spencer; daughter, Jerry Ann Fisher, of Wilmington, DE; son, David Spencer, and his wife, Valerie, of Riverside, CA; 3 grandchildren, James Fisher, Craig Fisher, and his wife, Linette, and Deanna Fisher, and her companion, Robert J. Mcgo-nigle; great grandchildren, Jesse Czarnota, Robert J. Mcgonigle, Jr., Lisa Marie Fisher and Amber Lynn Mcgonigle, all of Wilmington, DE; and brother, Jerry Dean Spencer, and his wife, Mildred, of Dover, DE.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday, July 7, 2006, at the Cathedral Church of St. John, 10 Concord Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19802. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cathedral Church of St. John; or to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19810.
