Meher A. Patel

Ms. Meher A. Patel, age 53, of Wilmington, DE, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 13, 2006.

Born in Bombay, India, Meher moved to DE 35 years ago. She was a member of the Bahá'í faith and served on the Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá'ís of Wilmington for the last 20 years. Meher also had strong ties to the Parsi community in DE. Her belief in the oneness of humanity and her passion for service found many outlets - sharing the message of Bahá'u'lláh, planning activities for Race Unity Day, holding Healing Racism study circles, daily prayers for those in need, serving weekly at the Blood Bank, creating extensive flower arrangements, and cooking exquisite meals for the celebrations in her many friends lives, and in general, offering friendship and hospitality to those she met. Meher worked at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution as an administrative assistant, serving the warden's office, and maintained many lifetime friendships with her co-workers.

She was active with organizations including Toastmasters, the Ministry of Caring, AIDS Delaware and animal protection groups.

Meher will be remembered for her staunch belief in the equality of every person regardless of rank, station, education, ethnicity, religious affiliation or any other consideration, and for her special love for the young and the elderly. Meher also had a very big heart when it came to her cats and other 4-legged friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, June 19, 2006, at the SPICER-MULLIKIN FUNERAL HOME, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where friends may call after 10 AM. Interment will follow in Silverbrook cemetery, Lancaster Ave. and DuPont Rd., Wilmington.

John M. Pavco, Jr. "Jack"

John M. "Jack" Pavco, Jr., born April 4, 1929, originally from Forty Fort, PA, passed away peacefully at home, with his family by his side, on June 13, 2006.

Jack moved to Wilmington, DE in 1951, after he married Lucille T. (Niemiec) Pavco, of DuPont, PA. Jack was a veteran of WWII. He worked for the DuPont Company, in Wilmington, DE, and retired with 41 years of service in 1992.

Jack is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lucille T.; daughters, Lucille A., Annemarie and Luanne; grandchildren, Victoria, Olivia, Henry, Natalie and Conrad; and sisters, Bernadine, Betty and Mary Ann. He was preceded in death by brothers, Robert and Lawrence.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Friday, June 16, 2006, at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Concord Pike and Sharpley Roads, Wilmington. Entombment will follow in Cathedral cemetery.

Kindly omit flowers. Contributions may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, 185 Salem-Church Road, Newark, DE 19713.

Bruce Phillips

Age 51, of Cecilton, MD, died June 11, 2006.

Mr. Phillips was a veteran of the United States Navy and an inspiration-al speaker.

Survivors include his mother, Barbara; brothers, Melvin and Sheldon Phillips; bro-ther and sister, Duval and Ramona Bell; and other family and close friends.

There will be no viewing. Family and friends are invited to visit from 11-12 noon on Friday, June 16, 2006, at Union Bethel AME Church, 161 Church St., Cecilton, MD, where the funeral service will begin at 12 noon.

Diane H. Pukatsch

Age 49, passed away suddenly on Monday, June 12, 2006, at home.

Diane had been the owner and operator of the Diane's Hair Again, at 704 W. 30th Street in Wilmington, for about 30 years.

She is survived by her husband, Mike; daughter, Michelle; and son, Michael J.; her father, Angelo Bassano; brothers, Fred and Tony; sisters, Angela and Chrissy; grandchildren, John Thompson and Courtney Mae Davis; and nieces and nephews.

The service and burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

Mrs. Nancy Ann Quill, age 71, of New Castle, DE, died on Tuesday, June 13, 2006.

Visitation will be from 9-10 AM on Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at the SPICER-MULLIKIN FUNERAL HOME, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A funeral mass will follow at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.

Shirley F. Smith

Shirley F. Smith, age 72, of Newark, DE, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2006.

The service and interment will be held privately.

Joseph A. Vitsorek

Of Newark, DE, died suddenly Tuesday, June 13, 2006. He was 57.

Mr. Vitsorek was born September 2, 1948, in Palmerton, PA and relocated to Newark where he was a longtime resident. He had an extensive career with The Delaware Department of Labor where he worked in the Division of Unemployment Insurance for 31˝ years until his retirement in July 2003. He later enjoyed work as an Executive Host for Delaware Park. Mr. Vitsorek was an avid golfer and enjoyed annual golfing trips on the East Coast. He also was a devoted fan of all Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Eagles. He will be remembered as a loving son and father and a friend to all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony Vitsorek, in 1969 and his sister, Connie Vitsorek, in 1999. He is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, Susannah and Jay Vitsorek of Middletown; mother, Josephine Vitsorek of Elsmere; brother and sister-in-law, Karen and John K. Vitsorek of Wilmington; nephew, John A. Vitsorek and his family; niece, Carolyn Vitsorek of Wilmington; and ex-wife, Mary Ellen Vitsorek of Elsmere.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Saturday, June 17, 2006, at Corpus Christi RC Church, 905 New Road, Elsmere, where friends and family may call from 9-10 am. Burial will follow in All Saints cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with his father and sister.

Age 57, of Newark, DE, died Friday, June 9, 2006.

Mother of William Vucic. Daughter of Sandra Petrucci.

Mass 9 am on Saturday, June 17, at Holy Cross Church, 631 South State St., Dover. Burial in Oddfellows cemetery, Milford. Visitation from 7-9 pm on Friday, June 16, at the FUNERAL HOME OF MICHAEL J. AMBRUSO, 1175 S. State St., Dover.

Julia L. Wilkinson

Mrs. Julia L. Wilkinson, age 81, of Newark, DE, died on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at Heartland Hospice House, in Wilmington.

A native Delawarean, Mrs. Wilkinson was born December 4, 1924 in Wilmington, daughter of the late Roland Hitchens and Rose Wainwright Hitchens.

She was employed as a professional secretary for over 32 years with the Colonial School District before retiring in 1985. Mrs. Wilkinson was an active member of the ladies auxiliary of J. Allison O'Daniel Post #475 VFW for many years. She also enjoyed bowling, golfing and dancing.

Her husband, Raymond P. Wilkinson, died in 1993. She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers. She is survived by 3 children, Diane J. Pierce, of Stafford, VA, Stephen P. Parag, of Galveston, TX, and Joseph R. Parag, of Newark; stepdaughter, Carol A. Rose, of Charlotte, NC; sister, Vivian I. Cox, of Elkton, MD; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

Friends may call from 6-8 pm on Sunday, June 18, 2006, at the SPICER-MULLIKIN FUNERAL HOME, 121 W. Park Place, Newark. A service will be held at 11 am on Monday, June 19, 2006, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Fire Company, PO Box 148, Newark, DE 19715.
