Ervin E. Bailey

Ervin E. Bailey, age 82, of Parkside, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 14, 2006.

Gene is survived by a daughter, Kathy Bailey; a son, Richard E. Bailey; a sister, Mildred Huryat; 3 grandchildren, Allison Gianakis, Thomas Davis and Mary Kramedas; and 4 great grandchildren, Diana, Alex, Tommy and Sarah. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis A. Bailey; and a brother, Ernest Bailey.

The service and burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Gene's memory to Heartland Hospice, Suite 100, 261 Chapman Rd., Newark, DE 19702-5426.

Edward W. Davis

Died Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at Cokesbury Village in Hockessin, DE on the day before his 98th birthday.

Ed was raised on family farms in Shelby and Oldham Counties, KY with his 3 brothers, Thomas, Joe, and John, by their parents, Fleet Goodridge and Nancy Fullenwider Davis. In 1929, he graduated with the first class of the Speed School of Engineering at the University of Louisville. His long career as an electrical engineer included work with General Electric, Esso/Standard Oil, and the DuPont Company. Highlights included the building of the IND Line of the NYC subway system and oil refinery systems in South America, development of solid state motor control which advanced many forms of precision manufacturing, oversight of design and construction of Christiana Medical Center, and the restoration of a historic hydro-electric power system at Hagley Museum in Wilmington, DE. He was a Fellow of the American Consulting Engineers Council. Ed was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and worked to construct the church's present sanctuary. He later arranged to bring the church steeple from near his home in KY. He was also instrumental in the development of the Methodist Country House in Wilmington. Ed was an athlete, outdoor enthusiast, and world traveler. He was a member of the 9-19 Club at Wilmington Country Club. In 2002, he climbed the Great Wall of China on a trip with family and friends. A non-stop learner himself, Ed continued throughout his life to share his extensive knowledge of sports, engineering, and family history. He was honored to be appointed a Kentucky Colonel by the Governor of the Commonwealth.

Ed was the husband of the late Joan Durr Davis and is survived by his 3 children, Fleet G. Davis, II, Wilmington, DE, Edward W. (Ned) Davis, Jr., New York, NY, and Leslie Anne Weigel, Bowling Green, KY. He will also be missed by his son- and daughters-in-law, Richard, Nancy, and Judith; by his 5 grandchildren, Ward, Lee, Lauren, Nate, and Alexis, and their spouses, Jessica, Amanda, and Emily; and by 3 beloved great-granddaughters, Emma, Kate, and Olivia.

Visitation will occur on Friday, June 16, from 6-8 pm at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 7230 Lancaster Pike, in Hockessin, DE. A memorial service is scheduled at 2 pm on Saturday, June 17, at the Cokesbury Village Chapel, 726 Loveville Rd., Hockessin, DE. Interment will be private.

Kindly omit flowers. Instead, the family suggests donations to the Edward W. Davis Memorial Fund, Speed School of Engineering, University of Louisville, Louisville, KY 40292.

David E. Eastburn

David E. Eastburn, age 65, and a 31-year resident of Aston, PA, died June 13, 2006 at

the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvan-ia in Phila-delphia.

David was born in Darby, PA, and graduated from Monsignor Bonner High School in 1959. He was a driver and salesman for the Schmidt Baking Co., in New Castle, DE, for 19 years, retiring in 1999. Previously, he was a milkman for the Abbotts Dairies & Lehigh Valley. Mr. Eastburn was a member of Local #463 for 40 years, coached Little League baseball for Aston Valley for 15 years, was an avid golfer, and enjoyed bowling and old-time western movies, especially Roy Rogers. He also enjoyed summers in Wildwood, NJ and was a trivia buff and devoted husband, father and pop-pop.

David was predeceased by his parents, Maurice and Mary Luby Eastburn; a son, Stephan C. Eastburn, who died in 1993; a brother, Jay Eastburn, who died in 1975; and a grandson, Liam James Kane, who died in 2005. Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Margaret "Peggy" O'Rourke Eastburn; son, David A. (Kathleen) Eastburn, of Middletown, DE; daughters, Virginia M. (Bryant) Eastburn, of Collingdale, PA, Deborah S. (Joseph) Catalano, of Des Plaines, IL; sons, William (Maria) Kane, of Aston, PA, Kevin (Andrea) Kane, of Bethel Twp., PA, and Daniel (Dinae) Kane, of Wilmington, DE; 1 sister, Shirley McGowan, of Clifton Heights, PA; 2 brothers, Maurice (Hilda) Eastburn, of Bronson, FL, and William (Carolyn) Eastburn, of Newberry, FL; and 12 grandchildren.

There will be a viewing from 7-9 pm on Friday, June 16, and from 7:45-8:15 am on Saturday, June 17, at the PAGANO FUNERAL HOME, 3711 Foulk Rd.,

Bethel Twp., PA. A funeral mass will be offered at 9 am on Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3255 Concord Rd., Aston, PA 19014. Interment will be in SS Peter & Paul cemetery, in Springfield, PA.

Donations may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church; or to the Liam James Kane Fund, to support neuro-blastoma pediatric cancer research, c/o Bank of America, Valley Forge Market Place, 670 Trooper Rd., West Norriton, PA 19403.

Elizabeth Charlene Ewer

Elizabeth Charlene Ewer, age 74, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2006, at the Johns Hopkins Medical Center, in Baltimore, MD.

Mrs. Ewer was born in Georgetown, DE to the late Thomas Henry and Edith May (Affeld) Willey. Mrs. Ewer was a 1949 graduate of Georgetown High School. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a nursing degree, earned a BSN from the University of Delaware in 1975, and a MSN in 1984. She worked at Milford Hospital as a 3rd floor head nurse and was an instructor at Delaware Technical & Community College in 1975 before retiring in July, l997. She worked part-time for Bayhealth's Employee Occupational Health in Milford until April 2006. A comment from one of the supervisor's at the hospital where she worked was "Mrs. Ewer was very good with new graduates and when possible, the hospital assigned her to work with them. She was very motivated and did without vacation for approximately 4 years while going to school and working months without a day off. Her interest in teaching was the motivating factor toward getting her degree."

She is survived by her 2 sons, Dean Thomas Ewer, of Beaceton, VA, and Edward Everett Ewer, Jr., of Fairport, NY; and 2 grandchildren, Kristen Kelley Ewer and Bryan Douglas Ewer.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2006, at 2 PM, at the Wesley United Methodist Church, Laurel & Race Sts., Georgetown, DE, where friends may call 1 hour prior to the service at church. Interment will following at Union cemetery, in Georgetown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be make to a charity of your choice.

Carl Walton

Age 83, went home to be with the Lord June 24, 2006, at Wilmington Hospital.

Father of Timothy Ruffin, Dinetta P., Portia, Daniel, Lionel, Deborah & Charles Walton. Brother of Mary Francis Wayne, Addy M. Walton-Andrews, Geraldine Walton-Gibbs & Harminezeil Walton-Porter. Also survived by a host of grandchildren, other family & friends. Funeral 10 am Sat., July 1, at Ezion Fair Baptist Church, 1213 N. French St., Wilm. Viewing 9-10 am only. Burial in Haven Memorial Park, West Chester, PA.

Age 90 of Dover, DE, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at Capitol Nursing Home. Service 7 pm on Friday, June 30, at PIPPIN FUNERAL HOME, 119 W. Camden Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, DE, where friends may call from 6-7 pm.

Kenneth W. Wade

Age 70, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Monday, June 26, 2006.

He was a machinist with Delaware Metals in Newport. Ken was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Newport where he was a lay reader and sang in the choir, a member of the Delaware Choir at Dickinson High School, and a former member of the Delaware National Guard.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary A. Wade; 4 children, James N. Wade of Middletown, Cheryl A. Gearhart of New Castle, Linda D. Wolf of Newark, and David B. Wade of Magnolia; 1 sister, Audrey Donovan of Bear; 10 grandchildren; and 1 great grandson.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 30, 2006, at 1 pm at St. James Episcopal Church of Newport, Augustine St. and Newport Pike, Newport, DE 19804, where family and friends may call after 12 noon. Interment will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park.

Marina Thornburg "Betty"

Age 70, of Dover, DE, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at her home with family.

She was born on November 26, 1935 in Englee, Newfoundland, Canada to the late Cecil and Eugenie Canning Fillier. Marina "Betty" was retired from the VA Hospital, Nursing Services Department in Elsmere, DE. After retirement, she enjoyed online games and visits to the casinos as well as spending time with family and friends. In July Betty and Bill would have been married 50 years. She will be missed by all.

She is survived by her husband, William T. "Bill" Thornburg of Dover, DE; son and his wife, William Edward and Laura Thornburg of Middletown, DE; son and his wife, Paul and Karen Thornburg of Townsend, DE; son, Stephen Thornburg of Dover, DE; daughter and her husband, Jean and Ralph of Dover, DE; grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan, Devan, Aneya, Joshua, Will and Lily; brother, Scot Fillier of Canada; sister, Laura Roswell of Canada; and brother, Roddick Fillier of Canada.

Remembrances services will be held on Friday, June 30, 2006, at 1 pm at TRADER FUNERAL HOME, 12 Lotus St., Dover, DE, where friends may call 1 hours before the time of service. Burial will be in the Sharon Hill Memorial Park, Dover, DE.

The family request that memorial contributions be given to Fox Chase Cancer Center, 333 Cottman Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19111.
