Alice B. Evans

Alice B. Evans, age 99, of Media, PA, formerly of Havertown, PA, died on Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at Riddle Memorial Hospital in Media.

Alice was born December 13, 1906 in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Robert P. and Lillie Hamilton Brand. She attended Banks Business College and studied at Fleisher Art Memorial in Philadelphia. She was a employed as a secretary and bookkeeper by Philadelphia Electric, and Albemarle Paper Co., retiring at age 80. Alice was a member of Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church, in Cardiff, MD.

Alice is survived by her son, Robert P. Evans and his wife, Carole, of Newark, DE; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to the funeral service at 11 am on Saturday, April 29, at Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church, 1630 Chestnut St., Cardiff, MD 21160. Burial will be in Slate Ridge cemetery, Delta, MD.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church.

Loretta S. Figiel (Skibicki)

Russell L. Fiske, Sr.

Russell L. Fiske, Sr., age 79, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 17, 2006, surrounded by his family.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, Mr. Fiske was a graduate of Temple University. He worked as a probation officer and Salvation Army lieutenant before founding Camelot, a safe haven for wayward boys, ages 8-18, who were referred by courts, correctional centers and social workers. Over 9000 youths were helped through his program, which promoted discipline and responsibility, and included tutoring, counseling, fitness and the arts. He tenaciously sought funding from any source that valued the goals of Camelot including neighbors, veterans organizations and foundations. Mr. Fiske was a member of the Wilmington Police Advisory Board, the Kiwanis Club, and the Northeast Alliance. During World War II, he served his country in the US Army.

Mr. Fiske is survived by his wife of 28 years, Suzanne L. (Phillips) Fiske; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Russell, Jr. and Jamie, and Jonathan and Heather; his daughter, Robin Fiske; a sister, Laura; and 2 grandchildren, Steven and Tara.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 24th, between 6 and 8 pm, at the MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington, and again on Tuesday afternoon, April 25th, between 12 and 1 pm, where the funeral service will begin at 1 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Camelot, c/o Diamond State Youth, Inc., 1413 Lore Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19809.

Age 36, of Milford, DE, died Apr. 14, 2006. Viewing 6-8 pm Fri., Apr. 21, and funeral 11 am Sat. Apr. 22, at Mt. Enon Baptist Church, 600 N. Church St., Milford.

Age 79, died Monday, April 10, 2006. Son of the late Willard and Mary Griffin. Brother of Leon Griffin, of Philadelphia, PA. Also survived by a niece, Dorothy Cephas; great nephew, Anthony Cephas (Karen); great niece, Deborah Hyndman; and 2 great-great nieces, Morgan and Anna Mae Cephas. Thomas Edsel Hall "Pop"

Age 80 of Hockessin, DE passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 19, 2006, in Port Penn, DE.

Born in Marion Station, MD, Thomas was the son of the late George Benjamin and Anita (Maddox) Hall. He served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve and U.S. Army Reserve, retiring after 31 years. For 30 years, he worked for the DuPont Company, retiring in 1983 as a lab technician in the Photo Products Division. Mr. Hall was a Scoutmaster for Troop #65 for 13 years through 1988. A Senior Olympic participant, he was active in bicycling, camping and backpacking. His hobbies included model railroading, fishing, the beach, and especially his grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son, Kevin Thomas Hall. Mr. Hall will be dearly missed by his wife of 52 years, Kathryn (Bounds) Hall; his daughter, Sharon Hall Burkett of Newark; his son and daughter-in-law, Craig Steven and Linda D. Hall; and his grandchildren, Christopher, Zachary, Alexis, Kevin and Andrew. Also surviving are close family friends, John Amery and Gene Bonk.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 23rd, between 6-8 pm at MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington. A funeral service will take place on Monday morning, April 24th, at 11 am at Hockessin United Methodist Church, 7250 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Boy Scouts of America, Del-Mar-Va Council, 801 Washington Street, Wilmington, DE 19801; or to Hockessin United Methodist Church at the address above.

Elizabeth Wolhar Hanley

Elizabeth "Libby" Hanley, of Monroe, NY, formerly of Wilmington, DE, died on Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at St. Anthony's Community Hospital, in Warwick, NY, after a long illness.

Libby was born November 1, 1919 in Wilmington, DE, to Rebecca V. and Howard Wolhar. A graduate of St. Ann's elementary school and one of the first graduates of P.S. duPont High School, over the years, she worked as a secretary for the DuPont Co. and in sales in boutiques at Strawbridges. When younger, she enjoyed tennis and golf, and later was an avid spectator. Most especially, she was a devoted wife and mother. Her natural ability to help was evidenced by caring for her husband, mother-in-law and mother during their illnesses. Libby kept to the background, but had an incredible inner strength.

Widow of William J. Hanley, Jr.; and predeceased by her brother, Charles Wolhar; she is survived by 1 daughter, Barbara Hanley, of Monroe, NY; her nieces, Joan Mayer, of Newark, DE, Carol Stackhouse, of Alexandria, VA, and Nancy Hannigan, of Wilmington, DE; nephews, Richard Wolhar, of Newark, DE, William Hannigan, of Falls Church, VA, and Robert Hannigan, of Flemington, NJ; sister-in-law, Ruth Hannigan; and brother-in-law, William A. Hannigan, of Wilmington, DE; as well as many great nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation on Sunday, April 23, from 6-8 pm, at the DOHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 1900 Delaware Ave., Wilmington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, April 24, at 10 am, at St. Ann's Church, Gilpin Ave. & Union Sts., Wilmington. Burial will be in Cathedral cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to victims of Hurricane Katrina, c/o the American Red Cross, 100 W. 10th St., Wilmington, DE 19801.

Alma S. Hastings

Alma S. Hastings, age 87, of Georgetown, DE, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2006, at Union Hospital, in Elkton, MD.

Mrs. Hastings was born in New Church, Va to the late Julius H. and Ola M. (Colona) Shay. She graduated from Atlantic High School, in Accomack County, VA. She worked as a fore person at the former Swift &Co. poultry processing plant, in Georgetown, and as a USDA poultry inspector for 24 years. She was a 50-year member of Midland Grange, in Georgetown, a member of Grace United Methodist Church, in Georgetown, and the Georgetown Cheer Senior Center.

In addition to her parents, Alma was preceded in death by her husband, Earl A. Hastings, Sr., in 1964; a son, Earl A. Hastings, Jr., in 1997; a sister, Doris Fletcher; and 3 brothers, Willis, Norman and John Shay. She is survived by 1 son, Richard Hastings, and his wife, Sandra, of Jackson, MO; 2 daughters, Elizabeth 'Betty" Hastings, of Newark, DE, and Beverly Hastings, of Alexandria, VA and Georgetown, DE; 5 grandchildren, Brian Hastings and Sara Hastings, both of Georgetown, DE, Brittany Hastings, of Jackson, MO, Mark Hastings, of Chino Valley, AZ and Michael Hastings, of Reno, NV; 2 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.

Friends and family may call at 11 am on Saturday, April 22, 2006, in the chapel of SHORT FUNERAL SERVICES, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where Rev. Mike McGhee will conduct the funeral service at 1 pm. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Midland Grange #27, c/o Jacob Breasure, 22110 Breasure Rd., Georgetown, DE 19947; to the Georgetown Cheer Center, 5 Sand Hill Rd., Georgetown, DE 19947; or to Grace United Methodist Church, 7 S. King St., Georgetown, DE 19947.

Marian Rae Hill

Marian Rae Hill, of Lewes, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at the Lewes Convalescent Center. She was 87.

Mrs. Hill was born May 18, 1918 to the late Raymond E. and Marian (Joseph) Wilson. She was a 1938 graduate of the Beebe School of Nursing, a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Lewes, and a member of the alter guild. Marian was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, raising her family in the Lewes area. After raising her family, she returned back to her nursing career at Beebe Hospital before her retirement.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Henry F. "Hilly" Hill, in 2005; a daughter, Carol Hill Bader, in 2000; 2 brothers, Howard and Ronnie Wilson; and a sister, Helen Kling. She is survived by a daughter, Sharon H. Melson, and her husband, A. Douglas; a son, Dr. William T. Hill, and his wife, Caroline; 2 brothers, Raymond and Wayne Wilson; 4 grandchildren, Vollie D. Melson, Jennifer M. Athey, and Frank and Michael Hill; and a great granddaughter, Page Elizabeth Athey.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 24, 2006, at 12 noon, at the Long Neck Chapel of MELSON FUNERAL SERVICES, Long Neck Rd., Millsboro, DE, where friends may call an hour before. Interment will be in St. Peter's cemetery, Piliottown Rd., Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions, in Mrs. Hill's memory, to Delaware Hospice, Southern Division, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Rocelia "Rose" Holland

Age 69, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, April 16, 2006, at her residence.

Mother of Larry, Donald (Emma), Willie and the late Edward Holland. Daughter of the late Susie Mae Taylor and Ernest Lott. Sister of Elizabeth and Jeanette Lott, Geneva Williams and the late Betty Bolden. She is also survived by 2 grandchildren, Jamar Rush and Edward Henry; 1 great grandson, Jamar Rush, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and devoted friend, Henry Muller.

Funeral 10 pm Saturday, April 22. at Ezion-Mt. Carmel UM Church, 800 N. Walnut St. Viewing 8:30-9:45 am only. Burial in Gracelawn Memorial Park.
