Eileen Jane Kainz

Eileen Jane Kainz, age 83, of Wilmington, DE, passed away suddenly at her home on Wednesday April 19, 2006.

Mrs. Kainz was born April 24, 1922 in Brooklyn, NY. She loved children and was a foster grandparent. Eileen was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church until she moved to Wilmington. She will be remembered as being devoted to her entire family.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Austin, of Wilmington; 3 grandchildren, Melissa Jester, Carrie Austin of Malvern, PA, and Robin Austin of Wilmington, DE; great granddaughter, Savannah Jane Thompson; and great grandsons, Jonathan and James Jester, both of Newark. She also leaves behind her sister, Marie Stritzel, of NY. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, who died in 1974; and 11 brothers and sisters.

Friends and family may call at the R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main St., Newark, DE 19711, on Thursday, April 20, from 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church, 15 Gender Road, Newark, on Friday, April 21, 2006, at 11 am. . Burial will be in All Saints cemetery.

Charitable contributions in Eileen's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society; or to Sacred Heart Village Ministry of Caring, c/o the funeral home.

Katherine Kane

Age 82 of Newark, DE, formerly of Pleasant Hills Estates, died Tuesday April 18, 2006, in the Millcroft Senior Living Community.

Mrs. Kane was a homemaker. She served in the United States Navy during WWII as an Air Traffic Controller.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward P. Kane, who died August 11, 1988; her daughter, Barbara L. Kane, who died February 19, 2001; and her sister, Esther Houston. She is survived by her son, Edward P Kane and his wife, Sharon, of Elkton, MD; her brothers, Edward Jones and his wife, Ellen Marie, of Wilmington, DE and Joseph Jones of Wilkes Barre, PA; her grandchildren, Douglas Kane and Gregory Kane; and her great grandchildren, Joshua Kane and Sean Kane. She is also survived by several nephews and nieces including devoted nephew and niece, Jim and Dot Kane; her "fifty year" devoted friends, Jeanette Dambach and Ann Kauffman; and her good friend, Jan Harrison.

The family would like to thank the staff at Millcroft Senior Living Community for their excellent care.

There will be a graveside service at Gracelawn Memorial Park, N. Dupont Parkway, Minquadale, on Monday afternoon, April 24, 2006, at 1 pm. There will be no viewing.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2306 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805.

Margaret A. Merchant

Age 65, of Milford, DE, died Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at home. Viewing 12 noon and funeral 1 pm Saturday, April 22, at BERRY-SHORT FUNERAL HOME, 119 NW Front St., Milford, DE 19963.

June H. Shea

Mrs. June H. Shea, age 87 of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2006.

Mrs. Shea was born in West Pittston, PA, on October 22, 1918, daughter of the late Raymond and Maude (Adrian) Burritt. She was employed by ICI as a secretary and bookkeeper before her retirement in 1977. June was a lifelong member of Christ United Methodist Church, offering her support and participation for many church activities. She served in the Ladies Auxiliary at the Cranston Heights Fire Company and also enjoyed a membership with the DuPont Country Club.

Mrs. Shea was predeceased by her devoted husband, Raymond F. Shea, in 1996. She is survived by her niece, Mary Ann Shea; and her great nephews, Sergio Romano and Joseph Shea.

A memorial service celebrating June's life will be held on Monday evening, April 24, at Christ United Methodist Church, 6 N. Clifton Ave. in Wilmington, at 6:20 pm. Family and friends may call at the church prior to service from 5 to 6:20 pm. Interment will be held privately at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Vitas Hospice, 100 Commerce Dr., Suite 302, Newark, DE 19713.

Age 84 of Smyrna, DE died Monday, April 17, 2006, at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital. Service 12 noon on Saturday, April 22, at BENNIE SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 717 W. Division St., Dover, where friends may call 2 hours prior.

Scott D. Takach

Scott D. Takach, age 47, of Wilmington, DE, died on Monday, April 17, 2006, in PA from injuries sustained in an accident on Saturday evening.

Scott worked for B. Braun Medical, of Cherry Hill, NJ, for the past 10 months as a production supervisor. For 10 years prior, he specialized in food technology and quality control with Ottens Flavors, of Philadelphia, PA. Scott was born in Paterson, NJ and lived in Elmwood Park, NJ for 28 years.

Survivors include his parents, John and Anne Takach, of Brick, NJ; his daughter, KelliAnne Takach; his domestic partner and companion, Diana Hultberg, and her 2 children, Jennifer and Jake; his sister, Holly (Takach) and Bill VanBuskirk, and their 3 children, Jessica, Amy and Billy, of Roselle Park, NJ; and his brother, Drew, and Darlene Takach, and their 2 children, Rachel and Jesse, of Greenwood Lake, NJ.

Visitation will be held from 6-9 pm on Friday, April 21, at the KEDZ FUNERAL HOME, 1123 Hooper Ave., Toms River, NJ, with a service at 8 pm.

Robert E. Walker, Sr.

Of Lincoln, DE and formerly of New Castle, DE, age 74, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2006 in the Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Walker worked as a contract hauler for The News Journal for about 40 years. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Phillies and Eagles. In his leisure time, Mr. Walker enjoyed gardening and bowling.

He was the son of the late William Walker and Rose (Cooper) Walker. Mr. Walker was also preceded in death by 2 grandsons, Dustin, in 1983 and Robert, III, in 2004. Survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Harriett B. (Graham) Walker; their children, Robert, Jr. and his wife, LuAnne of Newark, DE, Karin Lynn DiCarolis and her husband, Dick, of Lincoln, DE, John of Wilmington, DE, Barbara Prodgers and her husband, Wayne, of Newark, DE, Lisa Reilly and her husband, William, of Lincoln, DE and Marian Ann Truitt and her husband, Dale, of Lewes, DE; sister, Alice Sapp of Hockessin, DE; sister-in-law, Ann Russell and her husband, James, of Newark, DE; 10 grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 24, 2006, at 11 am at Gebhart Funeral Home, 531 Delaware St., New Castle, DE. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday afternoon, April 23, from 3-5 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. George's cemetery, St. George's, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Lewes Church of Christ, Attn: Building Fund, 14904 Coastal Hwy., Milton, DE 19968; or Groome United Methodist Church, PO Box 299, Lewes, DE 19958.

Norma E. Bell "Ma Bell"

Of Bear, DE, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at the Christiana Hospital in her 60th year of life.

Norma was born and raised in Salem, NJ, the daughter of Phyllis Brown and the late Thomas A. Bell and has made DE her home for the past 28 years. Norma was proud to have been a homemaker who loved and cared for her family, especially her 9 very special grandchildren who had a special place in mom-mom's heart. She was a member of Abate of Delaware and Diamond State VFW Post #2563. Norma was an accomplished artist who enjoyed playing the slot machines, cooking and most of all spending time with and spoiling her 9 grandchildren. Norma made the best "pepper shooters" which she distributed locally. Norma was a loving person who enjoyed life to the fullest.

She will be sadly missed by her loving lifetime companion and best friend, Larry Grey, with whom she shared 19 of the best years of her life; her family, sons, William E. Schafer, Jr. of Wildwood, NJ and Walter C. Graham, Jr. of Marshallton; daughters, Terry L. Hammond and Deborah Ann Zane, both of New Castle, DE and Tammy Labree of Marshallton; mother, Phyllis Brown; sisters, Jackie, Sharon, Tootie, Kathy and Beverly; brother, Tom; and her 9 very special grandchildren. Norma was preceded in death by her father and brother, Ephriam.

Family and friends are invited to share with Norma's family her Life Celebration and viewing on Wednesday, June 14th, from 5:30-9 pm at Beeson Funeral Home of Newark, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Fox Run, and again on Thursday morning, June 15th, from 10 am-12 noon. Her funeral service will be at the funeral home at 12 noon with interment in Hickory Grove cemetery, Port Penn immediately following.

In memory of Norma a contribution may be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, New Castle, DE 19720.

Raymond R. Bende, Jr.

Age 63 of Wilmington, DE, died Saturday, June 10, 2006, at the Christiana Hospital.

Mr. Bende was formerly a computer programmer systems analyst with the Wilmington Board of Education. He was an avid reader and he enjoyed cooking for his family.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Bende; and 1 son, Steven Bende and his wife, Marg, of Kensington, MD. Mr. Bende was crazy about his granddaughter, Kate; and his dog, Twinkie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday morning, June 15, at 10 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 3200 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont. Burial will be in Lawn Croft cemetery. Friends may call at the CHANDLER FUNERAL HOMES, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, on Wednesday evening, June 14, from 6-8 pm.
