Retired Naval Officer
Committal Service Announced

A committal service, with military honors, for LCDR Clyde E. Heaton, USNR (Ret.), will be held at 1 pm on Friday, April 28, 2006, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE. Mr. Heaton died December 15, 2005 in Newark, DE, at the age of 81.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Happy Life Children's Home, c/o Heritage Presbyterian Church, 140 Airport Road, New Castle, DE 19720.

SPICER-MULLIKIN FUNERAL HOME

C. Wilson Hickman

Age 83 of Tallahassee, FL, formerly of Selbyville, DE, died Saturday, April 22, 2006, at home.

Born in Bishopville, MD, Mr. Hickman was the son of the late Marie and Charles W. Hickman, Sr. He had owned and operated Wilson's Amoco on 44th St. in Ocean City, MD for 20 years. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, near Bishopville.

Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Godwin Hickman of Tallahassee, FL; daughter, Durene E. Gilbert and her husband, Terry, of Tallahassee, FL; granddaughter, Tyler Gilbert; brother, Darwin Hickman and his wife, Elizabeth, of Salisbury, MD; sister-in-law, Vivian Hickman of Bishopville, MD; 3 nieces, Rita Taylor and her husband, Buzz, Lois Wells and her husband, Rick, all of Bishopville, MD and Dixie Lee Cole and her husband, Allen, of Sydney, Australia; and 16 grandnieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Louis J. Hickman.

A funeral will be held at 1 pm on Friday, April 28, 2006, at HASTINGS FUNERAL HOME, 19 S. Main St., Selbyville, DE, where friends may call 1 hour before the service. Interment in Bishopville cemetery, Bishopville, MD.

Donations may be made to Big Ben Hospice, Continuous Care Unit, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308; or Zion United Methodist Church, c/o Sandra Venable, 11213 Beverly St., Bishopville, MD 21813.

Fred B. Hopper

Age 74 of Claymont, DE, died on Saturday, April 22, 2006, after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Hopper graduated from Yeadon High School, Yeadon, PA. He served in the National Guards after graduation. He was a high school All Star Baseball Pitcher and played for the Cincinatti Reds Farm team. He worked has a surveyor for the Army Corps of Engineers and retired in 1989 after 37 years. He coached baseball for the Claymont Little League in the 1980s. He especially enjoyed his friendship with the Concord Mall Walkers.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lois A. Hopper (Urian); and his children. daughters, Lynn Peters and husband, Marc, of Claymont and Sandra Simpson and husband, Chuck, of Wilmington and son, Ron Hopper and wife, Emily, of Wilmington. He will be sadly missed by his 5 grandsons, Christopher and Jeffrey Peters, Nate and Ian Hopper and Steven Simpson; brothers, Henry J. Hopper of Williamsport, PA and Alex Hopper of Yeadon, PA.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 29, at 11 am at Atonement Methodist Church, 3519 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE. where friends may call from 10-11 am. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 1901 Rockland Road, Wilmington, Delaware 19803.

James Ridgeway Jones

Mr. James Ridgeway Jones, age 78, of Elkton, MD, died on Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE.

Jim was born on March 16, 1928 at home in Seaford, DE, the 7th of 8 children. A graduate of Seaford High School, he later earned his degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Delaware. Jim served his country in the US Army as a First Lieutenant with tours of duty in Korea and Alaska. In civilian life, he enjoyed a 32-year career with the Exxon Corporation and was posted with his family all over the world, including assignments in England, France, Argentina, Holland, Japan, Spain, Belgium and Colombia. He retired in 1986. Jim was past president of the Exxon Annuitants of Southwest Florida and the Sanibel-Captiva (FL) Kiwanis Club. He greatly enjoyed golf, bridge and UD football games with friends. He also loved fishing or towing grandchildren with his Aquasport Osprey and sailing with buddies on the Chesapeake or on trips to the Bahamas. Those who knew Jim will never forget his kindness, wisdom, support and humor. He will be missed dearly.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Esther Fouracre Jones; their 3 children, Cynthia Jones Dean, James Ridgeway Jones, Jr. and Roger Seabrook Jones; grandchildren, Melina and Mallory Jones; grandchildren whom he helped raise, Erika, Bryant and Julia Dean; a great granddaughter, Cody Dean; 4 siblings; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, April 29, 2006, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 41 Justice Way, Elkton, MD (Elk Neck). Interment will be held privately in Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the University of Delaware School of Engineering Scholarship Program, c/o Development Office, Academy Building, Newark, DE 19716; or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Michael L. Lloyd

Michael Leon Lloyd was born to Ruth and Mack Lloyd on December 20, 1967, in Camden, SC. He fell asleep in death on Thursday, April 20, 2006.

Michael Lloyd leaves to cherish his fond memory, his wife, Genevieve M. Lloyd; 2 children, son, Corey Rochester and daughter, Michelle Lloyd; 1 sister, Michelle Lloyd of Camden, SC and brother-in-law, Ronnie Murphy along with a niece, Mashylla Murphy; a brother, Mackey Lloyd of Kennett Square, PA; a loving mother, Ruth Lloyd of Camden, SC; a father and friend, Mack Lloyd and Janice McKee of Kennett Square, PA; stepsisters, Tia McKinney and Andrea McKee; 5 sisters-in-law, Barbara M. Smith (Wayne), Marcel D. Motley, Linda M. Andersen (Jacob), Carol L. Motley and Lydia L. Carney (Butch); and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A service will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, 3011 N. Heald Street, Wilmington, DE. Friends may call 9:30-11:30 am. Interment, Silverbrook.

Barbara E. McMullen

Age 50 of Blades, DE, joined our heavenly Father on Saturday, April 22, 2006, at her home.

Mrs. McMullen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and daughter. She was a hairdresser and managed shops in the Methodist Manor House and Life Care at Lofland Park in Seaford. She was a member of Bayshore Community Church in Gumboro. Barbara's hobbies were reading, spending time with her grandchildren, and shopping.

Barbara was the daughter of Peggy Corkell of Denton and the late Thomas Corkell. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Larry J. McMullen; 2 sons, Christopher D. McMullen of Seaford and Gideon A. McMullen and his wife, Brandy, of Bethel; 1 daughter, Laurie A. Dickerson and her husband, Todd, of Gumboro; 3 grandchildren, Alexander DiCicco, Lauren Dickerson and Kailen McMullen. Also surviving are 2 brothers, Wesley Corkell and Michael Corkell, both of Denton; and 4 sisters, Mary Ann Wooters of Denton, Karen Gibson of Bridgetown, MD, Susie Green of Centerville, MD and Linda Jones of Denton.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 27th, at 2 pm at the CRANSTON FUNERAL HOME, 300 N. Shipley St., Seaford, DE. The viewing will be on Wednesday, April 26th, from 6-8 pm. Burial will be in the Blades cemetery.

Joseph W. Medford, Jr.

Age 52 of New Castle, DE died Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Christiana Hospital. Service 7 pm on Thursday, April 27, at New Destiny Fellowship Church, 906 E. 16th St., Wilmington. Viewing from 4- 7 pm. HOUSE OF WRIGHT.

Caroline Isabell (Redden) Pacheco

Age 67, passed away April 21, 2006 in St. Francis Hospital. Beloved mother of John Redden, Sr. (Eunice), Rafhael, Sharon and David Pacheco, Carmen Davis (Charles), all of Wilmington, Charles Bryant and Michael Bryant, both of Philadelphia, PA. Daughter of the late Carrie and Joseph Redden. Sister of Blanche Rice of Kennett Square, PA, Beulah Gandy of West Chester, PA, Joan Powell of Chester, PA, Sarah Redden of Wilmington, DE and the late Clarence Wilmore, Mildred Chambers, Susan Medley, Kathryn Milbourne, William Wilmore, Harry, Barbara and Mildred Redden. Also survived by 21 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mrs. Pacheco worked as a nanny throughout Wilmington. She was a member of Delaware Division of the Visially Impaired. Celebration of Life Service will be 6 pm Friday, April 28, at CONGO FUNERAL HOME, 201 N. Gray Ave., where a viewing will be from 4-6 pm. Interment in Gracelawn Memorial Park.

Nicole A. Pierce "Nikki"

Ms. Nicole A. Pierce, age 27 of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2006.

Nicole was born in Wilmington on April 25, 1978, daughter of Raymond Fields and Diane M. Pierce. She was a true people person whose kindness and devotion attracted many friendships. Nikki possessed many interests and hobbies, with her greatest passion found in the field of cosmetology. Her greatest love was for her children, with whom she cherished time spent.

Nikki is survived by her sons, Jordan R. Mooney and Damian T. Pierce; daughter, Briana Nicole Mooney; sister, Raeann Pierce; grandparents, Joseph and Katherine Pierce; uncles and aunts, Rich and Rosemary Blevins, Joey and Shirley Pierce, James Haggerty and Theresa Behringer, Jeff and Lisa Walls, and Vegas and Pam Evans; cousins, Clifford and Rich Blevins, John, Mike, and Stacy Behringer, Victoria Walls and Heather Pierce, Cheyenne Evans and Aaron Pierce, Larry, Justin, and Ashton Pierce, Tonya and Joey Pierce; and many other cousins.

Family and friends may call at the CHARLES P. ARCARO FUNERAL HOME, 2309 Lancaster Ave., 2309 Lancaster Ave. (opposite Cathedral cemetery), on Wednesday morning, April 26, from 9-11 am. A memorial service and interment will be held privately.

Robert C. Scharlach

Age 80 of Wilmington, DE died on Wednesday, April 19, 2006, in the Christiana Hospital.

Mr. Scharlach served in the United States Navy during WWII in the Southwest Pacific as a boat mate 2nd class in the SeaBees. He was a graduate of Syracuse University College of Engineering where he earned his Bachelor of Industrial Engineering Degree. He retired from the DuPont Co. as an engineer after 30 years of service. He lived in the Wilmington area for 40 years coming from Buffalo, NY. He enjoyed gardening and golfing and enjoyed playing at the Three Little Bakers Golf Courses.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Donna Scharlach; his son, David R. Scharlach and his wife, Pamela, of Toluca Lake, CA; his daughter, Julie Rickerman and her husband, David, of Landenberg, PA; his sister, Mary Jane Nicolaisen and her husband, Bernard, of Overland Park, KS; and his granddaughter, Claire E. Rickerman.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the DOHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek, on Friday afternoon, April 28, 2006, at 12:30 pm, where friends may call at 12 noon. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery, Bear, DE.

The family requests that flowers not be sent.

Neil Simon

Age 66 of New Castle, DE, died April 22, 2006. Visitation from 9:30-10:30 am, Thursday, April 27, SPICER-MULLIKIN F.H., 1000 N. Dupont Pkwy., New Castle. Mass at 11 am, Our Lady of Fatima, 801 N. Dupont Pkwy., New Castle.
