Age 70, passed away Jan. 27, 2006, at home. Husband of Minnie Miller Skates. Father of Lester & Roger Miller & Leonice Callahan. Brother Tessie St. John & Willard Williams. Also survived by 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; other family & friends. Funeral 11 am Fri., Feb. 3, at CONGO FUNERAL HOME, 2317 N. Market St. Viewing 9-11. Burial in Silverbrook cemetery.

Bernard T. Starkey, Sr. "Hookie"

Bernard T. Starkey, Sr., age 71, of Wilmington, DE, went home to be with the Lord January 29, 2006.

He leaves to cherish his memory 4 daughters, Robyn Star-key-Morris, Michelle Speight-Conquest, Deleia (Lee-Lee) Dennis and Tanya Lewis; 1 son, Bernard Starkey, Jr.; 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 2 brothers; 1 sister; 2 sons-in-law; 1 brother-in-law; 2 sisters-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nadine Starkey.

Friends may call from 10-12 noon on Friday, February 3, 2006, at Mother Union AME Church, 701 E. 5th Street. Wilmington, DE, where the funeral service will begin at 12 noon. Interment will be in Riverview Gardens.

Gene B. Stevens

Age 81, of Hockessin, DE, died on Sunday, January 29, 2006, at Christiana Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Lee; daughters and sons-in-law, Frederika and Charles Jenner, and Anne and William Nolan;and grandsons, Andrew and Nicolas Jenner.

There are no services scheduled at this time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Christiana Care Foundation's Nursing Scholarship Fund, PO Box 1668, Wilmington, DE 19899, in appreciation for the care and attention shown by their nurses and staff.

Carol W. Strickland

Age 98, formerly of Richardson Park, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2006, at Christiana Hospital.

Carol was a 1927 graduate of the Delaware Hospital School of Nursing and a homemaker. She was a member of Richardson Park U.M. Church, and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Her husband, William P. Strickland, died in 1955. She is survived by her children, Carol Hayden, and her husband, John, of Wilmington, and W. James Strickland, and his wife, Patricia, of Milford; her grandchildren, Patricia, Laura, David, Bill, Wendy, Scott and Clifford; and 13 great grandchildren.

A service will be held on Friday, February 3, 2006, at 1:30 pm, at Richardson Park U.M. Church, N. Maryland Ave. & Matthes Ave., Richardson Park, where friends may call after 1 pm. Burial will be in Silverbrook Memorial Park.

Carl Philip Bickling

Age 69, of Claymont, DE, died February 1, 2006, after a long couragkeous battle with cancer.

Carl was born and raised in Boothwyn, PA. He was employed as a carpenter for over 40 years. His free time was spent restoring classic Ford Mustangs, swimming, relaxing at his beach house, playing with his beloved dogs, and taking his daily 5-mile walk around Claymont. In addition to all of this, he was also a longtime Boy Scout leader.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Ann; his daughter and caregiver, Debbie Aulisa, and her husband, Jerry; his son, Carl Jr., and his wife, Millie; and his daughter, Sharon Gabrylewicz, and her husband,Kim. He will also be fo

The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at the Helen Graham Cancer Center for their loving care during Carl's illness.

Services will be private. The family will be having a celebration of Carl's life on Saturday, February 11, at 1 pm, at the home of his daughter, Debbie.

Georgina M. Binder "Granny"

Mrs. Georgina M. "Granny" Binder, age 86, of Delaware City, DE, died on Thursday, February 2, 2006, at Christiana Hospital.

Mrs. Binder was born February 4, 1919 in Wilmington to the late William H. Press, Sr. and Marie V. Cook Press. A lab technician by profession, she made her career with the DuPont Company, retiring from the Stine-Haskell site in Newark. Mrs. Binder was also active in the ladies auxiliary of American Legion Post #13 in Delaware City, the Delaware City Recreation Club, and Meals on Wheels. She was honored by the Delaware City Lions Club with the Melvin Jones Fellow award. A gifted homemaker, Mrs. Binder greatly enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. She will be remembered most of all as a gracious and devoted wife and mother. She was the best "Granny" ever to her 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and to the countless friends who adored her.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Leon Binder, (Lt. Col., USA, Ret.); 2 daughters, Virginia "Bootsie" Boutin, and her husband, Ted, of Milford, and Marie Janiszewski, and her husband, Bob, of Delaware City; brother, William H. Press, Jr., of Fenwick Island; nieces and nephews; and "The Cook Cousins". She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, John Press and Harry Press; and a sister, Virginia "Sis" Stephens.

Friends may call from 9-11 am on Monday, February 6, 2006, at the SPICER-MULLIKIN FUNERAL HOME, 214 Clinton Street, Delaware City. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 am at St. Paul's R.C. Church, 209 Washington Street, Delaware City. Interment will follow in St. Paul's cemetery.

Age 80, of Elkton, MD, died Feb. 2, 2006 at home. Visitation 10 am and funeral 11 am Tues., Feb. 6, at the R.T. FOARD FUNERAL HOME, 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD.

James H. Cronic, Sr.

Age 77, of Laurel, DE, died Wednesday, February 1, 2006, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, MD. Visitation 12 noon and funeral 1 pm Monday, February 6, at SHORT FUNERAL SERVICE, 6-9 E. Market St., Georgetown.

William E. Ewing, Jr.

Age 82, of Aston, PA, died on Wednesday, February 1, 2006, at the Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland.

Born in Lenni, PA to the late William E. Ewing, Sr. and Mary Houpt Ewing, he was last employed by Aston Township as a crossing guard at the intersection of Bridgewater Rd. & Scarlet Ave. in Aston. Prior to that, he worked at the Clover store at Granite Run. He was a US Army World War II veteran and loved fishing.

His wife, Theresa F. Opdenaker Ewing, died in 1996, after 51 years of marriage. He is survived by a daughter, Joanne E. Ruebeck of New Castle, DE; sons, William E. Ewing, III, Gregg W. Ewing, Terry W. Ewing, all of Aston, PA, and Brian W. Ewing, of Marcus Hook, PA; sister, Margaret Schott, of Springfield, PA; 9 grandchildren including James J. O'Reilly, whom he helped raise; and 7 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Henry C. and Jesse L. Ewing.

Family and friends may call after 9 am on Monday, February 6, at the WHITE LUTTRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3551 Concord Rd., Aston, PA, where the funeral service will begin at 10 am.

Age 75 of Centreville, MD, died February 1, 2006 at Chester River Hospital. Services, February 7, 2006, 11 am at Mt. Vernon UM Church, Centreville, MD. Viewing 2 hours prior. Burial, Maryland Veteran's cemetery, Hurlock, MD.

Frances L. Bennett

Mrs. Frances L. Bennett, age 86, of St. Georges, DE, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 3, 2006, at Christiana Hospital.

A native Delawarean, Mrs. Bennett was born in Summit on November 12, 1919, daughter of the late Harry Cavender and Florence Murray Cavender. She was a 1940 graduate of Middletown High School and attended the former Delmarva Institute of Cosmetology in Middletown. Mrs. Bennett began her career as a stylist in Newark before opening her own salon in St. Georges. She later closed her business in order to raise her family. Mrs. Bennett was an active member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church for many years.

Her husband of 43 years, George H. Bennett, died in 1989. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Eileen F. Bennett. She is survived by a daughter, Jayne Kelly of Hockessin; sister, Katherine Johnson and her husband, Daniel, of Bethel, MD; 2 brothers, Harry "Bud" Cavender, Jr. and his wife, Kitty, of Red Lion; and Les Cavender and his wife, Florence, of Sandpoint, ID; sister-in-law and dear friend, Mary Ellen Curlett of St. Georges; sister-in-law, Martha Bennett of Delaware City; brother-in-law, Joseph Bennett and his wife, Dee, of Delaware City; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, February 7, 2006, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 306 Clinton Street, Delaware City, where friends may call after 10 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ebenezer United Methodist Church, PO Box 4133, Delaware City, DE 19706.
