Monte C. Banning, Jr.

Mr. Monte C. Banning, Jr., age 78, of Middletown, DE, died on Monday, March 20, 2006, at his home.

Born January 29, 1928 in Warren, OH, Mr. Banning was the son of the late Monte C. Banning, Sr. and Elberta Myers Banning. He proudly served his country in the US Army Air Corps during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1949.

A career pilot, Mr. Banning worked for Atlantic Aviation in New Castle for 32 years, where he often flew for the DuPont Company. He later piloted for Conoco for 1 year, before retiring in 1988.

Active in the Masonic order throughout his life, Mr. Banning was a member and past master of Lafayette Lodge #14 AF&AM, a member of the Delaware Consistory, a member of Nur Temple, and past president of the Masonic Hall Company on Market Street.

He was also a past governor of the flying fraternity known as the Quiet Birdsmen and had served as the treasurer of the Southern Alliance, a New Castle County civic organization. A certified master gardener, he served as an expert advisor for callers to the University of Delaware Horticulture Department.

Above all, Mr. Banning will be remembered as a devoted family man, who especially delighted in spending time with his beloved grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Penrod Banning; 4 children, Cynthia Hunt, of Bear, Pamela Banning, of Middletown, Sandra Leckie, and her husband, Alan, of New Castle, and Monte C. Banning III, and his wife, Kathleen, of Bear; brother, Robert Banning, and his wife, Anita, of VA; 3 sisters, Patricia Fisher, and her husband, James, of Warren, OH, Virginia Udall, and her husband, George, of Levittsburg, OH, and Katherine Heltzel, of AZ; 9 grandchildren, Lindsay Brown, of Middletown, Andrew Hunt, and his wife, Nicole, of Seattle, WA, Matthew Hunt, of Newark, Heather Leckie, Melissa Leckie and Sara Leckie, all of New Castle, Alan Leckie, and his wife, Nicole, stationed in HI, Jennifer Banning and Victoria Calloway, both of Bear; and great grandson, Dayson Hunt, of Seattle, WA.

A funeral service will be held at 8 pm on Thursday, March 23, 2006, at the SPICER-MULLIKIN FUNERAL HOME, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where friends may call after 6 pm. A service of committal will be held at 10 am on Friday, March 24, 2006, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to New Castle United Methodist Church, 510 Delaware Avenue, New Castle, DE 19720.

Mary C. Bishop

Age 81, died Mar. 20, 2006. Mother of Mary, Bishop James, Linda, Charles Sr., Lorraine, LaVonne & the late Willie and Johnny. Funeral 10 am Sat., Mar. 25, at New Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 1401 N. Market St. Viewing 9-10 only. Congo F.H.

Katherine E. Brown

Age 75 of Harrington, DE, died Sunday, March 19, 2006 at Milford Memorial Hospital. Services, 1 pm, Wed., March 22, 2006 at WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, DE. Friends may call 1 hour prior.

Ronald T. Brittingham "Britt"

Ronald T. "Britt" Brittingham, age 89, of Dagsboro, DE, died on Sunday, March 19, 2006, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford.

Ronald was born in Millsboro to Charles and Alice Truitt Brittingham. He was a WWII veteran, having served as a medic in the Army. He was in the Normandy invasion, the Battle of the Ardennes, the Northern France campaign, and the Rhineland. He had been a business manager for Eastern States, Agway and Southern States. Britt also served for 10 years with the Sussex County government in charge of security. He was past commander of VFW Post #7422 in Millsboro, and a member of American Legion Post #19 in Laurel.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Lois Wilder Brittingham; a son, Craig Brittingham, and his companion, Dawn Caroll, of Laurel; 1 sister, Ruth Shields, of Boston, MA; 1 grandson, Stephen Brittingham; and 1 great granddaughter, Alyssa Brittingham. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Adolphus and Harland Brittingham; and a sister, Emily Welch.

Friends may call at 12 noon on Thursday, March 23. 2006, at the WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where Rev. Robert Hudson will conduct the funeral service at 1 pm. Interment will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery in Millsboro, where military honors will be conferred.

Edith E. Czubakowski

Age 85 of Dover, DE, died March 20, 2006. Services, 3 pm, March 23, TORBERT FUNERAL CHAPEL, 61 S. Bradford St. Friends may call Thurs. 1-3 pm. Interment, St. John's cemetery, Middle Village, NY.

Pauline J. de Polo

Pauline J. de Polo, age 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 19, 2006.

Born February 20, 1920, Mrs. de Polo was truly a loving, kind and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and best friend. A native Delawarean, she was a graduate of P.S. duPont High School, and attended Goldey-Beacom College. For several years, she was employed by the duPont Company. She was a devout parishioner of St. Helena's Catholic Church and served as a volunteer for the parish social ministry outreach program.

She is survived and was adored by her husband of 61 years, Albert J. de Polo; her children, Carol A. Wright, and her husband, John, of Hockessin, Paula J. Ritchings, and her husband, William, of Newark, Nina R. Lawless, and her husband, Stephen, of Hockessin, and Robert J. de Polo, and his wife, Brenda, of Wilmington; as well as 11 grandchildren; and 1 great grandson. She is also survived by her sister, Louise Bair; a brother, Charles A. Julian; and several nieces.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning, March 25, 2006, at 11 am, at St. Helena's Catholic Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, where family and friends may call from 10-11 am. Entombment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Helena's Parish Social Ministry, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, Delaware 19809.

Joseph S. DeFazio

Age 95 of Wilmington, DE and formerly of Staten Island, NY passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, March 19, 2006.

Mr. DeFazio retired from Dean Whitter after 33 years as a vice-president. After his retirement he worked as a Real Estate Broker. He was employed by the United States ARMY in the Chaplains School and was president of AARP and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, all in Staten Island. Joseph volunteered in many organizations such as; Willowbrook Hospital of Staten Island, where he spend many hours with the mentally challenged, Christiana Hospital and Emily P. Bissell Hospital. He was an active member of St. Catherine of Siena Church where he was in the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent DePaul Society, the choir, accounting and was the oldest altar server.

One of Joseph's greatest pastimes was writing poetry. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Victoria Taverna.

Joseph is survived by his wife of 75 years, Mrs. Antoinette DeFazio; his daughters, Mary Caravaglio and her husband, Michael of Manahawkin, NJ, and Joanne M. Strong of Newark, DE; his grandchildren, Michael Caravaglio and his wife, Lisa, Mark Caravaglio and his wife, Regina, Debra Denson and her husband, Karl, Steven Taverna, Susan Maines and her husband, David and Brian, Lauren and Allison Strong, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 2503 Centerville Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808 on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at 10:30 am, where friends may visit in the church at 9:30 am. Interment will be in All Saints cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. DeFazio may be sent to St. Catherine of Siena Church.

Eva Mae Graham (Chambers)

Age 89, of Newark, DE, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2006, after a lengthy illness. Eva Mae was the wife of the late Harry P. Graham, who passed away in April 1997. They shared 60 years of marriage.

Born in Tayloria, PA (Little Britain Twp, Lancaster County), she was the daughter of the late George H. and Florence Jones Chambers. She and her husband moved to Port Charlotte Village in Port Charlotte, FL in 1987 after living in Newark, DE for over 30 years. Eva Mae was a member of the United Methodist Church of Port Charlotte, the Oxford United Methodist Church, attended Oxford High School, and graduated from Avon-Grove High School in 1935.

Survivors include 2 sons, Lawrence H. Graham, of Wilmington, DE, and George E. Graham, of Newark, De; 3 grandchildren; 3 stepgrandchildren; and 3 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister and brother.

Relatives and friends may call from 10-11 am on Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at the RUFFENACH FUNERAL HOME, 224 Penn Ave., Oxford, PA, where the funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will be in Oxford cemetery.

Joan M. Karczmarczyk

Mrs. Joan M. (McGarrigle) Karczmarczyk, age 68, of Upper Darby, PA, died Monday, March 20, 2006, at decedent's residence in Upper Darby, PA.

She was born February 10, 1938 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, PA. Mrs. Karczmarczyk was a graduate of West Catholic Girls School in Philadelphia, PA. She was employed at Verizon (formerly Bell Telephone) for 34 years, retiring in 1994.

She was predeceased by her father, Mr. Michael A. McGar-rigle; mother, Helen M. (Kelly) McGarrigle; and son, Ronald Karcz-marczyk. She is survived by her daughter, Janet M. (Dennis) English, of Lansdowne, PA; brother, William (Joan) Mcgarrigle, of Malvern, PA; and granddaughter, Nicole Karcz-marczyk.

Visitation will be from 8:30-9:30 am on Friday, March 24, 2006, at the THE DONOHUE FUNERAL HOME, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA. A funeral mass will be offered at 10 am on Friday, at St. Cyril Church, 153 Penn Blvd., East Lansdowne, PA. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery in West Conshohocken, Montgomery County, PA.

Jeanne C. Killmon

Jeanne C. Killmon, age 81, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2006, at Foulk Manor South.

A graduate of University of Pennsylvania and the Delaware Hospital School of Nursing, Jeanne served and cared for others as a registered nurse. She retired from Emily Bissell Hospital, where she was a nursing supervisor.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Charles F. Killmon, in 2004. She is survived by her son, Mark Killmon, and his wife, Diane, of Nokesville, VA; her daughter, Lisa Meixell, and her husband, Michael, of Wilmington, DE; her grandsons, Matthew and Steven Killmon; her sister, Shirley Behley, and her husband, Warner; and 3 nieces.

A committal service will be held in the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, on Thursday, March 23, 2006, at 11 am. Friends are welcomed to join the family after the service at the Fraternal Order of Eagles #74, 415 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Diabetes Association, 100 West 10th St., Suite 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801.
