Benjamin H. Beckett

Age 77 of Millsboro, DE died Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, DE.

Mr. Beckett was born in Frankford, DE to the late, Edward T. and Emma McCray Beckett. Het worked as a forklift operator in the plant of Parker Block Company, Millsboror for 36 years, he retired in 1992. He became a dedicated volunteer at the Christian Storehouse in Millsboro since his retirement from Parker Block Co.

Mr. Beckette was a lifelong member of Antioch A.M.E. Church in Frankford, his activities in the church have included, member of the Frankford male chorus and serving as president for 5 years, member of the Frankford Cusades for 27 years, member of the Sons and Daughters Chorus for more than 56 years and president for more than 40 years, served as Steward and Trustee, named as an Honorary Steward by Rev. Calving Price, Chairman of the Class Leaders, served as Chairman for Homecoming for many years, served as Camp Meeting Chairman for many years, and was the Band Captain for the Praying and Singing Band. He was also a mason for many years, his Prince Hall activities were, petitioned for Prince Hall Lodge #14 in 1951, served in different stations including Master for 3 years, served as secretary for 39 years for Prince Hall #14, served as District Chaplain and Grand Chaplain for 15 years, made Grand Chaplain Emeritus and Honorary Grand Master by the Grand Master Marvin I. Gray, Charter member of G. Oscar Carrington Consistory #93. Elevated to the 33rd degree in May 1977, member and Champlain of the Commander of the Rites, Orient of Delaware and was the Champlain of the G. Oscar Consistory #93.

Mr. Becket is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mildred Houston Beckett; 3 children, Gloria Duffy of Millsboro, Shirley Beckett Roberts of Bear, DE and Benjamin E. Beckett of Felton, DE; 2 sons-in-law, William Duffy and Brian Roberts; future daughter-in-law, Lisa Thomas; 5 grandchildren, Troy, Leah, Marcus, Melissa and Christopher; 1 great grandchild, Tyzhir; 3 brothers, George, Alexander and Wilson Beckett; 1 sister, Rachel Houston; brothers-in-law, Harry Houston Sr. and William Beckett ans sisters-in-law, Ollie Houston, Kathleen Houston, Rosie, Blanche, Laura and Anna Beckett.

Service will be held 11 am, Monday at the Dickerson Chapel A.M.E. Church, US Rte.113, South of Millsboro, DE where friends may call after 9 am. Friends may also call from 6-8 Sunday evening at the church where there will be a Masonic Service conducted at 7 pm. Interment in Antioch Church cemetery, Frankford, DE. Rev. Earnest Bell will officiate and Rev. Richard Worthy will host.

In lieu of flowers, the framily suggests contributions to the Antioch A.M.E. Church Building Fund, Rt.3, Box 113, Frankford, DE 19945 in memory of Mr. Beckett. Arrangements by WATSON FUNERAL HOME Millsboro, DE

Dennis L. Catron

Dennis Lee Catron, age 68, of Elkton, MD, died Thursday, March 3, 2005.

Mr. Catron retired from the Cecil County Public Schools after 37 years as a dedicated teacher and principal.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Jackie Clark Catron; children and their spouses, Mark and Molly Catron Purnell, Samuel and Denita Catron Layton, all of Elkton, MD and Clark and Jessica Catron, Darlington, MD; devoted stepmother, Mildred Wills Catron; siblings, Julia Beverly, Ronald Catron, John Catron, Gail Wimmer, Debbie Deel, Lisa Catron and Janet Zarea and grandchildren, Nicholas and Paige Purnell, Lilly Layton and Logan and Landon Catron.

Funeral service will be held 11 am, Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at Leeds United Methodist Church, 1579 Blue Ball Rd., Elkton, MD. Visitation will be held from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm, Tuesday, March 8th at HICKS HOME FOR FUNERALS, 103 W. Stockton St., Elkton, MD 21921. Interment will be in Gilpin Manor Memorial Park, Elkton.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Leeds United Methodist Church Building Fund, or Northern Chesapeake Hospice Foundation, c/o the funeral home.

Sr. Elaine Francis, OSF of Aston, PA passed away on March 3, 2005.

Religious, relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral mass Tuesday, 11 am at Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Rd., Aston, PA and to her Prayer Service, Tuesday 9:30 am, followed by her viewing. Interment, Our Lady of Angels cemetery, Aston, PA.

Florence T. Gilson

Age 81, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on March 3, 2005.

Mrs. Gilson was an administrative assistant for the Veterans Administration Hospital retiring in 1986.

She was predeceased by her husband, William M. Gilson in 1997. She is survived by her sister, Ann Stokaylo and her nephew, Walter T. Stokaylo, both of Wilmington, DE; her niece, Annmarie Whithed and her husband, Doug of Collegeville, PA; her great niece, Brianna and great nephew, Logan.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, March 8 at 11 am in St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Rd., where friends may call after 10. Entombment will be in All Saints cemetery.

Joyce Louise LeCates Harris

Age 51 of Delmar, DE died March 4, 2005 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital Seaford, DE. Service March 9th at Watson-Yates Funeral Home, Front & King Sts. Seaford, DE.

Pamela Jane Rogers Heisler

Age 43 of Lewes, DE died Friday, March 4, 2005 at Harbor Health Care. Memorial Service, 2 pm on Sunday, March 6, 2005 at Eagles Nest Fellowship Church, Milton.

Helen Potts Simmons

Age 86, died Thursday, March 3, 2005, at Kent General Bay Health Medical Center.

Mrs. Simmons was born March 8, 1918 in Smyrna, daughter of the late Mollie Potts Washington. Mrs. Simmons attended the public schools in Smyrna and graduated from the James H. Groves High School in Dover, Georgetown Centers Class of 1967. She was also an LPN. As a lifetime member of Centennial United Methodist Church, she participated on many committees and was an inspiration to all who knew her. Helen Simmons was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliated. She served as Grand Worthy Matron and Grand Treasurer of the St. Matthew's Grand Chapter of the State of Delaware.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stewart Simmons; brother, Sam Potts; and sister, Lavinia Potts. Mrs. Simmons leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Rachel W. Beathea (Robert L. Sr.) of North Brunswick, NJ; 4 sisters-in law, Louise Potts, Virginia Dolley, Alverta Baynard (James) and Sarah Fleetwood; and 2 brothers-in-law, Cecil Simmons and Ralph Simmons, both of Smyrna, DE. Other survivors include 3 nieces, Elsie Williams (Frank Nix), Louise Henry and Charolette Bleen (Ronald), all of Smyrna, DE; 7 nephews, Robert L. Beathea, Jr., Rudolph D. Smith lll and Christian Beathea, all of Washington DC, Sam Potts, Oakley Potts and Reginald Potts, all of Dover, DE, and William J. Williams; a host of great nieces and nephews; a lifelong friend, Elizabeth Richardson; and 3 godchildren, Sandra Johnson, Debra Toppins and Dr. Ronald Thomas.

The funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, March 8, at Centennial United Methodist Church, 44 E. Mt. Vernon St., Smyrna, DE, where a viewing will take place from 10:30-12 noon. An Eastern Star ceremony will be conducted from 11-11:30 am. Interment will be in Odd Fellows cemetery in Smyrna DE. Arrangements by BELL FUNERAL HOME

James "Jimmy" Joiner

Age 47 of North East, MD, was born in Nebraska and raised in Newark, DE.

His hobbies were working on cars and trucks. His pride and joy was his Camaro that he loved and cherished and also his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Joiner and brother, John Roy (Butchie) Joiner, both of Newark, DE.

Jimmy is survived by his mother, Mary Joiner of Bear, DE, an ex-wife; 2 daughters, Angela Biggs, of North East, MD and Tina Jones of Rising Sun, MD; 3 grandchildren, Joey Jones, Jason "Jr" Biggs and Hailie Renee Biggs. Jimmy is also survived by Mary Brooks and family of Newark, DE, Billy Joe Joiner and family of Newark, DE; Elizabeth Joiner and family of Elkton, MD, Jackie Burleigh and family of Newark, DE and Howard Joiner and family of Elkton, MD; 3 nephews; 5 nieces; 3 great nieces and 3 to come; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be held Monday, March 7, 2005 at 12 noon at GEE FUNERAL HOME, Elkton, MD where friends may call after 11 am prior to the service.

Elizabeth F. Kring

Age 80, a longtime resident of Wilmington and Hockessin, DE, formerly of Wilmington, NC, passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2005, in Newark, DE.

Mrs. Kring was a graduate of National College in Evanston, IL. She taught for over 20 years and was a first grade and special education teacher at Poplar Elementary School in Elsmere, DE for 17 years. Mrs. Kring enjoyed ballroom dancing, playing bridge, birdwatching, knitting, reading and traveling, especially their yearly visit to the Outer Banks in NC. While living in Wilmington, DE, Mrs. Kring was a member of St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church, where she participated as a CYO advisor. She later attended St. Mary's Catholic Church while living and raising her children in Hockessin for more than 20 years.

Mrs. Kring is survived by her husband of 58 years, Dr. Elbert V. Kring; her son, Jeffry C. Kring and his life companion, Geraldine Dennis, of Elkton, MD; a daughter, Jill Kring Carter and her husband, Steven, of Lancaster, PA; a brother, Charles Sumner Kimball of Yuma, AZ; a nephew, Charles Kimball; and 2 grandchildren, Annalee Carter and Miranda Carter.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

In memory of Mrs. Kring, contributions may be sent to St. Catherine of Sienna Church, 2503 Centerville Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808.
