Anna (Fox) McCullin

Age 84 of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on March 4, 2005, surrounded by her loving family.

Born February 27, 1921 in Philadelphia, PA, Mrs. McCullin graduated from West Catholic High School, St. Agnes Hospital of Nursing in Baltimore, and Marquette University. Mrs. McCullin moved to Wilmington from Baltimore in 1951 to marry the love of her life, Joe. She treasured her 53 years of marriage along with her 3 children and 4 grandchildren. A long time member of Corpus Christi parish, Anna possessed a deep faith in the Lord which she passed on to her children and grandchildren. She was an extremely proud mother and grandmother and valued the friendships she nurtured and developed from high school and her nursing profession over the years. Mrs. McCullin enjoyed her many trips to the beach and attending her grandchildren's numerous school and sporting events.

Mrs. McCullin was preceded in death by her twin sister, Margaret McNesby, in 1997. She is survived by her husband, Joseph; a daughter, Eileen Moran and her husband, Kevin; 2 sons, Paul McCullin and his wife, Theresa and Joseph McCullin. Her grandchildren include, Stephen and Patrick Moran and Lauren and Ryan McCullin.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi R.C.C., 901 New Rd., Elsmere on Wednesday, March 9th at 10 am. Friends may call at Corpus Christi R.C.C. on Tuesday evening, March 8th from 6-8 pm. Interment will be in All Saints cemetery, Wilmington.

Barry Melda

Mr. Barry D. Melda, age 66 of New Castle, DE, passed away Thursday afternoon, March 3, 2005, with family at his side.

Born in Reading, PA on August 22, 1938, Barry was a resident of DE for most of his life and was a 1956 graduate of P.S. duPont High School. Upon his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he was trained as an electronics and communications specialist. He achieved the rank of Communications Technician Second Class and also served in Japan for more than a year. For the past several years, Barry had been employed as a salesman with Ritz Camera Shop at both the Wilmington and Christiana locations. He was also a co-owner of 814 Club restaurant in Wilmington. Barry was an avid collector of coo-coo clocks, M&M memorabilia and Japanese art. He was also a fan of the Star Wars movies and James Bond movies. He was a very caring and generous person, who was loved by all who knew him.

Barry is survived by his cousin, Jeannette Henretty and her husband, Kenneth; his close friend for many years, Chuck Drummond; and many other friends. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Catherine (Gottschall) Beck.

The funeral service will be held at the New Castle United Methodist Church, 510 Delaware St., Old New Castle, on Tuesday afternoon, March 8, at 12:15 pm. Interment will follow in Glebe cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church on Tuesday morning from 11-12 noon.

Odell Mitchell

Age 62 of Wilmington, DE died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Arbors Nursing Home.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Rhonda L. Smith; son, Darryl Mitchell; and a devoted friend, Ernest Cornish, Jr.

There will be a funeral service at 11:30 am on Monday, March 7, 2005, at The House of Wright Mortuary, 208 E. 35th St., Wilmington, DE, where family and friends may call from 10:30-11:30 am. Interment will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery in Bear, DE.

Age 93 of Magnolia, DE died March 3, 2005 at the Silver Lake Nursing Home, Dover. Funeral at 1:30 pm on Monday, March 7, at the TORBERT FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd., Dover.

Robert Christopher HEIN

Robert Christopher Hein "Bob" Age 42 of Wilmington, DE died suddenly on Monday February 21, 2005. Bob was born on March 9, 1962 in Wilmington, son of Theodore Heine and the late Marie Heine.

He owned and operated Robert Chris-topher Sealcoating & Home Improvements in Brandywine Hundred for 18 years. Bob was also a criminal justice student at Wilmington College. Baseball was his passion. He was known as "the Missle" on several semi-professional baseball teams. He played with the Foleys Thunder and the Gildea Raider's for 8 years.

He enjoyed bowling, fishing, going to the beach, cooking and was an avid fan of his favorite local band, Burnt Sienna. Jefe, the lead singer, always welcomed Bob by saying, "Missle's in the house." Bob continued his mother's tradition of entertaining and throwing Christmas parties. His family nicknamed him "Dr, Father, Robert Christopher, Attorney at Law." He also enjoyed hanging out with his closest friends, Chris, "Uncle" Benny, Billy D, John G "Johnny Wanny," Steven "Hursch," Bob "Goose," Billy P, Randy, Hop, Pat, and Dean. He also enjoyed spending time with his brother Wayne, who always made him laugh, cheering on his sister, Donna at her pageants and eating blue crabs with his other sister, Paula.

His accomplishments include bowling many "300" games and several "800" series'. Bob was also a well-known baseball pitcher. He struck out 9 minor league Montreal Expos in 4 innings while on Gildea's spring training in Florida.

Bob was a lively man and brought humor to any situation. He was very proud of his daughter, Jaclyn, who attends St. Joseph's University. His favorite saying was, "the best there is, the best there was, and the best there will ever be." He will be greatly missed by his beloved family.

He is survived by his daughter, Jaclyn Hein; his brother, Wayne Heine; 2 sisters, Paula Miller and her husband, Jack; Donna Heine and her fianc‚, Matthew Dougherty; godchild and niece, Jessica Heine; father, Ted Heine and his wife, Jean; grandmother, Bertha France; Aunt Joanne Hurschman and her husband, Lee; Uncle Benjamin France and his wife, Rosemarie and 5 cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday February 25, at 12 noon in the Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans rd; Wilmington, where friends may call from 10 am until service time.

Burial will be in Cathedral cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Jaclyn Hein fund in care of PNC bank.

Age 79, of Dagsboro, DE, died Thursday, March 3, 2005. Service 1 pm, Wednesday at the WATSON FUNERAL HOME, Millsboro, where friends may call 2 hours before the service. Burial in Dagsboro Redmen's cemetery, Dagsboro.

Elizabeth M. Bennett

Elizabeth M. Bennett, age 82, of Wilmington, DE died Sunday, March 13, 2005 in the Christiana Hospital.

She was a secretary for NVF Co. for 47 years. She served as an organist at Hockessin United Methodist Church for many years, and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School there.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, Wallace, D. Bennett. Sr. She is survived by her brother, William D. Marsey, Jr. of Tolchester, MD; 2 nephews, William P. Marsey and Richard G. Marsey; 2 nieces, Jeannine Marsey and Patti McMahon; and 2 step-children, Joann Meloni and W. D. Bennett, Jr.; and her long-time caregiver, Donna Donato.

Service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, March 17, 2005 at the Hockessin United Methodist Church where friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in Newark United Methodist Church cemetery.

William H. Steele, Jr.

Of Newark, DE, and formerly of New Castle, age 73 passed away at home on Tuesday, April 12, 2005.

Mr. Steele had been self-employed as a truck driver. Earlier, he had worked in New Castle at the old ABEX plant as a foreman. Mr. Steele enjoyed spending time at the Liberty Terrace Senior Center and lounge.

His beloved wife, Shirley May, passed away in 1993. He is survived by his son, Frederick E. Steele of Newark; daughter, Beverley A. Hardy also of Newark; brothers, Earl, John, Jake, George, Vernon, and Acey; sisters, Anna, Georgeann, Shirley, Alice and Sharon; 4 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2005, at 11 am at the Gebhart Funeral Home, 531 Delaware St., New Castle, DE, where friends may visit with the family from 10-11 am. Burial will be in the Glebe cemetery, New Castle, DE. GEBHART

David CASTO

David D. Casto Age 80 of Linden Way, Newark, formerly of Sherwood Park II, Wilmington died November 15, 2000 at Christiana Care.

Mr. Casto was born and raised in Buckhannon, WV. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree at West Virginia Wesleyan College, Buckhannon, WV, and his Master of Music Education degree from Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL. He also studied at Sherwood Music School and VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, Ithaca College, Ithaca, NY, and Peabody Conservatory, Baltimore, MD.

Mr. Casto service 4 years in the U.S. Army during World War II with the regimental bands of the Field and Coast Artillery. He started playing the trumpet professionally at the age of 13 and continued to do so until 1986, when poor health forced his retirement.

Mr. Casto started his teaching career in 1952 in Webster Springs, WV, where he was in charge of the instrumental music program. The same was true for 3 years in Hancock, MD. He became the Director of Bands at the Henry C. Conrad High School in 1959 until 1978. In 1968, Mr. Casto was featured in an article written in "The School Musician Director and Teacher" professional magazine. He was honored as one of the top 10 music educators in the country. He retired from teaching in 1983 from the Wilmington High School.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Patricia "Lynn" Casto; 2 sons, David D., III of Dover, DE and John Michael of North East, MD; his daughter, Carolyn Marie Pfotzer of Panama City, FL; 9 grandchildren; and his sister, Kathleen Stewart of Durham, NC.

Funeral services will be held at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 701 S. Maryland Ave., Wilmington on November 18, 2000 at 11 am. There will be a time of visitation and viewing from 9-11 am prior to the service. Burial will be in Buckhannon, WV.

In memory of David, a contribution may be made to the Foundation of Calvary Presbyterian Church, 701 S. Maryland Ave., Wilmington, DE 19804.
