Harold Robert Baker

Age 82 of New Castle, DE, died Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at the Christiana Medical Center in Newark, DE.

Born in Ridley Park, PA, Mr. Baker was the son of the late Ralph C. Baker and Esther Gray Baker.

Mr. Baker retired in 1981 from the Sun Ship Building Company in Chester, PA where he was a supervisor for pipe fitting maintenance. He was an active member of the White Clay Creek Presbyterian Church in Newark.

He was a member of the Harmony Weavers in New Castle County, DE, and worked with Camp Farthest Out.

He was an officer for many years with the Full Gospel Businessmen Association of Lancaster, PA.

Mr. Baker is survived by his wife of 44 years, Thelma B. Baker of New Castle; 1 brother, Lloyd H. Baker, Sr. and his wife, Jean of Boothwyn, PA; 1 aunt, Belva Baker of Greenwood, DE; a sister-in-law, Betty Baker of Brookhaven, PA; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was predeceased by 1 brother, John E. Baker.

A graveside service will be at 11 am Saturday, September 4, 2004, at the Denton cemetery in Denton, MD. This will be preceded by a viewing/visitation, which will be held from 10-10:45 at the MOORE FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 12 S. Second Street in Denton, MD.

A memorial service will be at 11 am Saturday, September 11, at the White Clay Creek Presbyterian Church in Newark where friends are invited to visit 1 hour before the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be sent to the White Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, 15 Polly Drummond Hill Road, Newark, DE. 19711.

Jean W. Bowes

Age 102, born in Buckhaven Scotland, formerly of Claymont & Wilmington, DE, passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2004 in Riverside Extended Care, Wilmington, DE.

Her beloved husband, Arthur E. Bowes died in 1971.

In her earlier years, Mrs. Bowes worked for the Kennards Department Store as a sales representative. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Survived by her daughter, Janette B. Gracey of Millsboro, DE; great grandson, Cameron Gracey and great granddaughter, Morgan Gracey.

The funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, September 3, 2004 in the Chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, N. DuPont Hwy., New Castle, DE. Friends may visit with the family in the chapel beginning at 1:15 pm. Burial will be in the adjoining memorial park.

Age 79 of Chestertown, MD died Aug. 30, 2004, at Chester River Hospital.

Visitation 7-9 pm today, Sept. 2, and funeral 12 noon Fri., Sept. 3, at Janes UM Church in Chestertown.

Abraham (Lou King) Celli

Age 92, died peacefully Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at the home of his daughter, Elaine LePere after a long illness.

Lou was born in Baltimore on April 12, 1912.

He resided in the town of New Castle for some 85 years fathering 12 children with his wife of 53 years, Regina Jeffery who died in 1986. He acquired the name Lou King during the 40's for his big band sound "Lou King Orchestra" as a saxophone player. Lou worked as a highway inspector for the State of Delaware until his retirement in 1971.

Lou also was known for his bartending at several of the Wilmington country clubs and nightspots. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter the Apostle R. C. Church in New Castle, and St. Anthony's Club in New Castle.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Louis, William, Patrick, and his daughters, Denise Davis and Theresa Celli. He is survived by his wife, Philomena Saienni Celli of New Castle; 4 sons, Harry and his wife, Doris, Joseph "Bundo" and his wife, Patricia both from New Castle, Ronald and his wife, Sharon of Lewes, and Donald of Wilmington; 3 daughters, Delores Bennett and her husband, Wallace, Elaine LePere and her husband, Dennis, and Marie Celli all of New Castle; 30 grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter the Apostle R. C. Church, 521 Harmony St., New Castle on Saturday, September 4, 2004 at 10 am. Friends may call at St. Peters from 6-8 pm Friday, September 3, also from 9-10 am on Saturday, September 4. Interment in Gracelawn Memorial Park, DuPont Pkwy., New Castle.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions may be made to St. Peter's Workforce, 521 Harmony St., New Castle, DE 19720.

Mary R. Garrett

Age 94, formerly of Parkesburg, PA died on Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at the Willow Valley Manor of Lancaster where she resided for the last 7 years.

She was the widow of the late Elmer H. "Bucky" Garrett who died in 1972. Born in Valley Township, Chester County, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Rena Murray Root. Mary was a graduate of the Coatesville High School class of 1928. She was employed by the US Postal Service as a secretary to the postal inspector in Coatesville, retiring in 1972 with 20 years of service. She was a 56-year resident of Parkesburg and a member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Parkesburg and the Parkesburg Area Senior Citizens.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann, wife of John Summers of Wilmington, DE, a granddaughter, Barbara Ann, wife of Devon Evert of Richmond, VA and 1 brother, Frank Root of Westwood. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, George and Clyde Root.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, September 7, 2004 from the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 2nd Ave. & West St., Parkesburg, PA. Interment will follow at the Upper Octorara Presbyterian cemetery, Parkesburg, PA. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10 am until the time of the service. Age 77 of Wilmington, DE died Aug., 30, 2004.

Edgar F. Lingo

Age 70, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, a former Staten Islander, NY died at home Wednesday, September 1, 2004.

Edgar graduated from New Dorp High School. He joined the Merchant Marines when he was 18 years old. Mr. Lingo was a Merchant Marine on salvage ships.

He was chief engineer for Merritt Chapman & Scott for many years. Later Mr. Lingo was a chief engineer for the Staten Island Ferry. Upon retiring in 1996 to Rehoboth Beach, DE, Mr. Lingo enjoyed designing and building vacation homes. Mr. Lingo's other interests included gardening and automobile repair.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edgar B. Lingo and Ethel "Austin" Lingo. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine "Atkinson" Lingo of Rehoboth Beach, DE; his son, Edward Lingo and his wife, Elizabeth of Waukesha, WI; his son, James Lingo of Staten Island, NY; his daughter, Holly Hernandez and her husband, Robert of Easton, PA, and 4 granddaughters, Heather, Melissa and Mallory Hernandez of Easton, PA and Julia Lingo of Waukesha, WI.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, September 3, 2004, at PARSELL FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATORIUM, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE where friends may call at 11:00 am.

Interment will be at St. John's cemetery, Springfield Crossroads, near Georgetown on Sunday, September 5, 2004 at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the American Lung Association of DE, PO Box 1724, Dover, DE 19903.

William "Bill" Stephen McGlincy, Jr.

Age 89, of Wilmington, DE, died Tuesday, August 31, 2004 after a short illness.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Born August 24, 1915 in Bridgeport, NJ to William Stephen McGlincy and Esther Wilde McGlincy. He graduated from Chester High School in Chester, PA and worked several jobs to support his family.

He worked at Sun Oil Company during the Depression, the Rubber Reserves during World War II, and attended Drexel University studying chemical engineering.

In 1945, he married Dorothy Hewes.

He worked for Pennsylvania Industrial Chemical Corporation (PICCO) in Chester, PA and Clairton, PA (near Pittsburgh) as the traffic manager for shipping and receiving products from the plant. He was President of the Philadelphia Traffic and Transportation Club. Later he worked for Hercules, Inc. in Wilmington, DE. For many years, Mr. McGlincy served as judge of elections on Election Day in PA and in DE. He was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, where he served as usher, member of the Finance Committee, and member of the Methodist Men's Association.

He was predeceased by his son, William S. McGlincy III (Steve). He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy; son Robert Wilde McGlincy, of Northboro, MA, daughter, Dorothy Ann McGlincy Graham, of Andover, MA, twin grandsons, Michael William and Sean William of Atlanta, GA, grandson, Drew and granddaughter, Maddie, of Northboro, MA, and grandson Jonathan of Andover, MA.

Friends may call at St. Paul's United Methodist Church at 11 am on Saturday, September 4, 2004 with a memorial service immediately following at 12 noon in the sanctuary at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1314 Foulk Road, Wilmington, DE.

Burial will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, friends may donate in his memory to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1314 Foulk Rd, Wilmington, DE 19803.

Age 80, passed away August 31, 2004 in Manor Care Nursing Home.

Mother of Reverend JoAnne Moore-Neal and James Mosley. She is also survived by 2 sisters; 3 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 1 adopted granddaughter, and a host of other family and friends.

She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Burlington, NJ and St. Peter's Mission UAME Church in New Castle.
