Edith Dutt,
local personality
Edith Dutt, 92, died peacefully Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005.
Edie was well known in the Rehoboth/Dewey Beach area where she lived for many years. Edie was best known for her years at the Bottle & Cork in Dewey Beach and for her devotion to the area’s feral cat population.
Edie ran the ladies room at the Bottle & Cork for many years, where she dispensed hair spray and good cheer to all of her customers. Many people can remember seeing Edie riding her bike around town and to work well into her 80s. Those listening to WGMD in the mornings would also know Edie, who frequently called the station to let everyone know what had gone on at the Bottle & Cork that weekend.
Edie was a cat lover. She tended to as many as 30 cats and had names for all of them - her favorite being Tidy Boy - who joined her when she moved to Brandywine Assisted Living five years ago.
From there Edie moved to Capital Health Care in Dover where she enjoyed singing and dancing and helping the nurses run the Holly Unit.
Edie was one of a kind.
Funeral Services will be held at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, Friday, March 4, at 10 a.m.

David ‘Tom’ Shockley Jr.,
Lewes native
David Thomas “Tom” Shockley Jr., 54 of Tampa, Fla. and formerly of Lewes, passed away Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005 at University Hospital in Tampa.
Tom was born in Lewes, April 22, 1950; following graduation he served in the U.S. Marines and served in Vietnam. Following his military career he resided in Lewes where he was self employed prior to relocating to Tampa in 1996.
He is preceded in death by his father, David Thomas Shockley Sr. He is survived by his loving family: his mother, Gertrude Shockley of Lewes; a son, Michael Shockley, of Lewes; a daughter, Michelle Steeves, of Dolores, Co.; a granddaughter, Camryn Shockley, of Dover; his finance, Jan Wyckoff, and her two children, Kacy and Jesse Wyckoff, of Tampa; five sisters, Kathryn Ford of Lewes, Donna Bower of Lincoln, Patti Davis of Frankford, Judy Mitchell of Milton and Marylou Roberts of Lewes; four brothers, John Shockley of Frankford, Glenn Shockley of Wilmington, Christopher Shockley of Frankford and George Shockley of Lewes.
A memorial service will be held at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, Monday March 7, at 3 p.m.
Interment will be private.

Thomas K. Beckley,
electrical technician
Thomas Keith Beckley, 41, of Salisbury, Md. and formerly of Lewes, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, peacefully at home.
Born in Wilmington, he was the son of Harry K. Hager and Patricia Ann Beckley Hager of Harbeson.
Thomas was an electrical technician for Decarlo Precision Instrument in Salisbury. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and was involved in the martial arts. He graduated from Del Tech in Georgetown in 2003 with a degree in electronic engineering, summa cum laude. He also served in the U.S. Navy from 1981 to 1985. Thomas was a Christian with strong patriotic value.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Cindy L. Beckley; a daughter, Krista S. Beckley of Lewes; a stepdaughter, Noelle K. Ballard of Bensalem. Pa.; a sister, Denae Baull of Mapleshade, N.J.; his father, George T. Beckley, of Port Deposit, Md.; two nieces; and one nephew.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, March 4, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington, St., Millsboro, where friends may call at noon. Burial will be in Veterans Memorial cemetery , Patriot’s Way, Millsboro, with Pastor John Gore officiating. Contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Maurice ‘Mox’ K. Moore,
General Motors retiree
Maurice “Mox” K. Moore, 70, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at his residence.
Mr. Moore was born and raised in Cherry Hill, Md. and worked at General Motors until retiring to Rehoboth Beach.
He was preceded in death by his son, Maurice Moore; his parents, Cecil and Bertha Moore; his brothers, Howard, Frank and Winfield; and his sister, AnnaMay.
He is survived by his wife, Fran; and her daughters, Karen Myers and Linda Munson; his son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter, Mark, Jeannie and Jennifer Moore of Deland, Fla.; his daughter and granddaughter, Carol and Olivia Moore of Newark; his brother and sister-in-law, Willard and Margaret Moore of Newark; and his sister and brother-in-law, Midge and Harold Null of Fair Hill, Md.
Services will be held in Cherry Hill at a date to be announced. Contributions are suggested to American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Foundation. Arrangements by Melson Funeral Services of Long Neck.
Ellen K. Pepper,

Ellen K. Pepper, 66, of Seaford, passed away Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at Lifecare at Lofland Park in Seaford, her residence for the past seven weeks.
Mrs. Pepper was born in Georgetown, the daughter of Ella Evans King of Seaford and the late Herbert King. She was employed in Wilmington by the state of Delaware as a data entry technician for 18 years, retiring several years ago. She returned to Seaford nine years ago.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a sister, Amy Carrier.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sisters, Ann Messick of Georgetown and Eunice Lubiniecki of Laurel; a brother, Norris King of Georgetown; and several nieces and nephews.

Anthony J. Celano,
Lewes summer visitor
Anthony J. “Tony” Celano, 79, of Wilmington, and a Lewes vacationer, died peacefully Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at home and surrounded by his family.
Mr. Celano attended Sacred Heart and St. Thomas grade schools and was a graduate of Wilmington High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1943 and served in the Pacific during World War II, having participated in 13 invasions. After the war, he enrolled at Goldey Beacom College under the G.I. bill and later became a member of the Wilmington Police Department. As a reservist, he was called to active duty during the Korean Conflict as an Army CID agent. Upon his return to the police force, he served as detective, lieutenant of the vice squad and captain of traffic. He spearheaded the foundation and served as president of the Delaware FOP and was elected secretary of the DAP. He retired after 20 years and became manager of Bank Credit Bureau in Wilmington.
He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed cooking his catch with his family. Most of all he enjoyed his summer vacations with his wife, children and grandchildren at Lewes Beach.
He was a member of the Christina Country Club, the Newark Anglers, the Newlin Grist Mill and St. Matthew’s Church.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Anne C. Donovan Celano; his sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony J. Jr. and Florence Celano of Mass., and James J. and Diane Celano of N.C.; his daughters and sons-in-law, Antoinette M. “Tina” and Jim George of West Chester, Pa., Frances A. and Michael Lemon of Wilmington, and Judy A. and David Celli of Newark; and his grandchildren, Katie A. Close and her husband Jason, Meghan A. George, Carolyn V. Celano, Michael Lemon Jr., Thomas A. Celano, and Monica A., David A., and Anthony J. Celli; his brother, Fiore M. Celano; his sisters, Sue Delapo, Ann Malatesta, Nancy DiVirgilio, Rose Saggione and Jeane Maiorano; and many nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 1, at St. Matthew’s Church, Maryland and Fallon Avenue, Woodcrest, with burial to follow in All Saints’ cemetery , Wilmington.

Lawrence J. “Skip” “Nino” Novellino,
Dover businessman
Lawrence J. “Skip” “Nino” Novellino, 57, of Dover, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2004, at home.
Mr. Novellino was born Oct. 14, 1947, in New Brunswick, N.J., son of the late Lawrence Joseph and Marie Rose Tortorice Novellino.
He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War.
He moved to Dover and became a partner in the local Aamco Transmission repair, originally located on DuPont Highway in Dover and now on Delaware 8, just west of Dover. He was also a licensed ship captain.
He attended Christ Episcopal Church of Dover. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Walter L. Fox American Legion Post 2 in Dover and the Kiwanis Club of Dover, and he had volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Susan Smith Novellino; a son, James J. Novellino of Dover; a daughter and son-in-law, Aimee and Jerry Carter of Milton; two brothers, Nicholas V. Novellino of Tom’s River, N.J. and Joseph Novellino of Ashville, N.C.; a sister, Roxane Simon of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Cole Phoenix Carter, Jerry Lee Carter and Elizabeth Ann Carter.
Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, in Christ Episcopal Church, 501 S. State Street, Dover, with burial in Christ Church cemetery , Dover.

Mildred L. Norwood,
beloved sister
Mildred L. Norwood, 60, of Wilmington, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, in Christiana Care Center, Newark.
Ms. Norwood was born April 25, 1944, daughter of the late David and Delema Norwood. She was born and raised in the Harbeson area.
She attended Rabbits Ferry School until she became ill at the age of 16.
Ms. Norwood was a loving and caring daughter and sister, who enjoyed helping her family and taking her brother, Greg, down to the store to buy candy. She was a hard worker who didn’t mind working in the fields, cooking or cleaning and loved to tell her mother to “go ahead and I’ll take care of the house and Greg.”
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Norwood.
She is survived by five brothers, Elmer Norwood of Lewes, Dave Norwood and Evans Norwood, both of Harbeson, Mervin Norwood of Millsboro and Gregory Norwood of Milton; four sisters, Yvonne Johnson, Gloria Taylor and Grace Norwood, all of Harbeson and Julia Jackson of Georgetown; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services were held at Israel United Methodist Church, Lewes, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Victoria Saige Taliaferro Johnson,
Felton infant
Victoria Saige Taliaferro Johnson, of Felton, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. She was an infant.
Victoria was born Feb. 24, 2005, daughter of Brian D. Johnson and Bobbie Jo Taliaferro, both of Felton.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Shawn R. Taliaferro, at home; a sister, Tesia Taliaferro, at home; her maternal grandmother and step grandfather, Cathy and Doug Phillips of Lincoln; her maternal grandfather, Alfred Taliaferro of Lewes; her paternal grandparents, Cynthia Johnson of Salisbury, Md. and Hyland Johnson of Long Neck.
Services and burial were private.
Henry Thomas “Tom” Steele Sr.,
retired salesman
Henry Thomas “Tom” Steele Sr., 74, of Milford, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, in Christiana Care Center, Newark.
Mr. Steele was born Oct. 8, 1930, in Trenton, N.J., the son of the late Harlan Sr. and Delema Walls Steele. He relocated to Delaware from California 14 years ago.
He retired in 1995 as a salesman for Christian Dior.
He enjoyed tennis and being at the beach.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harlan Steele Jr.
He is survived by two sons, Tommy Steele of Pacific Palisades, Calif. and Drew Steele of Pahoa, Hawaii; a daughter, Stephanie Steele Zalin of Mona Ray, Calif.; two sisters, Elaine Mulholland of Easton, Md. and Nancy Grimm Steele of Rehoboth Beach; and an aunt and uncle, Marie and Otis Webb of Milford.
Memorial services will be held at a later time.
