Stephen M. Emery,

Stephen M. Emery, 21, of Mardela Springs, Md., died Thursday, March 31, 2005, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Mr. Emery was born in Elkton, Md., the son of Charles C. Emery and Barbara Pletcher Emery of North East, Md.
He was a graduate of Florence Bertel Academy in Baltimore, a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Salisbury, Md. and Boy Scout Troop 143 in Rising Sun, Md.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandmothers, Jean Brazelton of Drexel Hill, Pa., and Dorothy Pletcher of Newark; a brother, Peter Emery of North East, Md.; two sisters, Beth Hillman and her husband John of Mardela Springs, and Jacqueline Fournier of Newark; two nieces, Ellie Hillman of Mardela Springs and Adrianna Fournier of Newark; and an uncle, Paul Emery, of Rehoboth Beach.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 9, at Asbury United Methodist Church, Salisbury.

James Fred Nichols Sr.,
owned poultry farm
James Fred Nichols Sr., 86, of Millsboro and formerly of Linwood, Pa., Claymont, Greenwood and Milford, died Monday, April 4, 2005 in Bayhealth Medical Center, Milford Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Nichols was born April 29, 1918 in Goldsboro, Md., the son of the late Earle and Mary Emily (Jones) Nichols. He was a punch press operator for Belmont Iron Works in Eddystone, Pa. for 31 years before retiring in 1969 when the plant closed. He then worked at Sunroc in Glen Riddle, PA until 1970 when he moved to Greenwood, and purchased a chicken farm. He owned and operated the chicken farm for 10 years. After selling the farm in 1980, he went to work at Confidential Services in Lewes as a security guard where he worked until he retired in 1989.
James proudly entered the U. S. Army on Nov. 25, 1940. He served in China, Burma and India during World War II as one of Merrill’s Marauders. During the war, he received the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. He was honorably discharged on July 25, 1945. He was a Mason and was a life member of the Chester Lodge No. 236 AF & AM in Chester, Pa.
He loved visiting the Gull House in Rehoboth Beach and was a member of Milford Senior Center.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Virginia Ruth Marker Nichols in 1999, and two sisters, Mary Emma Clark and Katherine R. Mears.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Barry D. and Patty Nichols, of Millsboro; a brother, Howard R. Nichols of Mobile, Ala.; a sister, Grace Marker, Aston, Pa.; two grandsons, Douglas E. Nichols, of Newark and Christopher A. Nichols, of Milton; six great-grandchildren, Zachary J. Nichols, Emily A. Nichols, Ashley E. Nichols and Samantha Nichols, all of Newark and Tyler C. Nichols and Madison Nichols, both of Milton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11 a.m., Friday, April 8, 2005, at Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford where friends may call after 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will be in Milford Community cemetery.
John W. Niblette,
plant supervisor
John W. Niblette, 81, of Millville, died Monday, April 4, 2005, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md.
He was born March 4, 1924 in Wilmington to the late John W. and Margaret “Fisher” Niblette.
Mr. Niblette retired in 1980 after 20 years of service from All American Engineering where he was a supervisor. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia “Whiteside” Niblette, to whom he was married for almost 60 years; two daughters, Cheryl Harrison and her husband Mark R. of Wilmington and Karin Dunn of Newark,; a son, Walter James Niblette of Phoenix, Ariz.; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Committal services will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at the Chapel of the Delaware Veterans cemetery , Millsboro.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 1151 Walker Road, Suite 202, Dover, DE 19901.

Joseph Paul Brennan,

Joseph Paul Brennan, 89, of died Monday, April 4, 2005, at his residence in Lewes.
Mr. Brennan was born in Washington, D.C., son of the late John Raymond Brennan and Grace (McCarthy) Brennan. He received a baseball and basketball scholarship to George Washington University. He was formerly from Kensington, Md. and Stevensville, Md., and had moved to Delaware nice years ago. Mr. Brennan served in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1942 to 1975, retiring as a captain. He was employed by Remington Rand and Diebold Inc. in sales, and was a marketing manager for both companies.
He was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, Lewes. He was also a member of the Optimist Club; the Military Order of the Caribou; the Army-Navy Club; and Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, and had served as past president of George Washington University Lettermans Club. He had also served as a page in the U.S. House of Representatives.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Brennan was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Greatorex) Brennan in 1995, and a brother, John Raymond Brennan, Jr.
He is survived by four daughters, Patricia Boden and her husband John of Delray Beach, Fla., Margaret Lindsey of Gaithersburg, Md., Kathleen Ellinghaus and her husband Eric of Wyckoff, N.J. and Eileen Weschler and her husband Michael of Olney, Md.; nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Jude The Apostle Church, Route 1 at Five Points, Lewes., with burial private.

Jerome B. Lawson,
Sea Watch supervisor
Jerome B. “Jerry” Lawson, 52, of Milford, died Sunday, April 3, 2005, at home.
Mr. Lawson was born in Milford, the son of the late Norman and Marie Thomas Lawson. He was a supervisor in the warehouse at Sea Watch International in Milford.
Mr. Lawson was a sports enthusiast and played on many softball leagues in Milton. He enjoyed playing pool and reached the highest level in the Busch League.
He is survived by two sons, Jason Lawson of Maryland and Joshua Walstead of Milton; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Gary and Jeanne Lawson of Lincoln, Tom Lawson of Tampa, Fla. and Rick and Pam Lawson of Milton; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda Lawson and Tracy Westen of Los Angeles; and a grandchild. Hazel Lea.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m., Friday, April 8, in Milton Town Park. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

John J. Aiello Sr.,
accomplished boxer
John J. “Johnny Aiello” Sr., 87, of Lewes, and formerly of Wilmington, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2005.
Mr. Aiello was born in Wilmington, Aug. 27, 1917, the son of the late Frank and Mary Contento Aiello, and was raised in the Gander Hill section of Wilmington’s east side.
He proudly served the United States during WWII as a member of the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946. Mr. Aiello then served as a fire fighter with the City of Wilmington Fire Department and retired after 20 years.
His next career was that of plumbing inspector with New Castle County. He retired in 1984 and relocated to Lewes.
Mr. Aiello was a very able athlete and a very accomplished boxer. He began boxing at the age of 16 at the Defiance Athletic Club and spent nine years as a 118-pound bantamweight amateur fighter. His many awards include the Philadelphia Golden Gloves, the New York Golden Gloves, the Middle Atlantic Flyweight Championship and the Middle Atlantic Bantam Weight Championship. He was also a captain of the Pan American Boxing Team. His record at the end of his amateur career was 300 fights with 295 wins. Mr. Aiello turned pro in 1941 and won 11 out of 13 matches.
His professional career was interrupted by his service in the Navy and upon his discharge, he turned his attention to coaching. He had a brief stay in Boston where he helped establish a boxing program for service men and he also initiated and coached the University of Delaware boxing program from 1984-85. Mr. Aiello headed the CYO Boxing program at St. Anthony’s Club.
He was inducted into the Delaware Sports Museum and Hall of Fame and the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame and was a member of the Ring 1 Boxing Association of Philadelphia.
Mr. Aiello was an excellent baseball and basketball player and he loved to golf. He was a member of the Shawnee Country Club and Lewes Lions Club.
His wife of 30 years, Mary Kappauf Aiello, passed away April 28, 1968.
Mr. Aiello is survived by his children, Ronald and his wife, Geraldine; Frank and his wife, Jane, and Maria Aiello Green and her husband Francis; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Sylvester and Amelia, Emil and Kay, Primo and Carol and Donald and Ginger; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and Nick Nesci and Rose and Bob Naumann; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, John J. Aiello Jr.; and his brothers, Andrew and Anthony Aiello.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 9 and DuPont streets, at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 11. Burial will follow in All Saints’ cemetery . Family and friends may call at the Charles P. Arcaro Funeral Home, 2309 Lancaster Ave., from 4 to 9 p.m., Sunday, April 10.

Marie D. Johnson,
Frankford homemaker
Marie D. Johnson, 92, of rural Frankford, died Thursday, March 31, 2005, at Green Valley Nursing Home, Millsboro.
Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker. She was one of 16 children and loved to share her early childhood memories with anyone who would listen. She attended the Roxana CHEER Senior Center and had many friends there.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Johnson; and a son, John W. Johnson. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy M. Bunting of Ocean View and Janet L. Dettbarn of Frankford, with whom she lived; a daughter-in-law, Mary Johnson of Ocean View; a sister, Cora Timmons of Millsboro; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 5, in the Bethany Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, West Avenue, Ocean View, where friends may call after noon. Burial will be at Mariner’s Bethel cemetery , Ocean View. Contributions are suggested to the Christian Storehouse or Roxana Volunteer Fire Company Ambulance Fund. Joyce Ann West Keller,

Joyce Ann West Keller, 65, of Belmoor, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at home.
Mrs. Keller was born in Laurel, the daughter of W. Wilson West of Belmoor and the late Ruth V. West. She worked for more than 30 years as a financial secretary for the Red Clay School District. She was a past member of Richardson Park United Methodist Church. She was a member of Conrad High School, class of 1957. She loved the beach and spending time at their cottage in Broadkill Beach.
In addition to her father, she is survived by a son, William “Gene” Eugene Keller and his wife, Lorraine Beauchamp Keller of Greenwood; and a brother, Donald West, of Belmoor.
Funeral services were held at Short Funeral Home, Laurel, with burial in Odd Fellows cemetery , Laurel.

Dominick S. Kelliri,

Dominick S. Kelliri, 88, of Lewes and Collins Park, New Castle, died Thursday, March 31, 2005, at Christiana Hospital.
Mr. Kelliri was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He was an official in UAW No. 435 and worked at General Motors for many years. He enjoyed boating and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Kelliri.
He is survived by his sister, Josephine Kelliri of Pittston, Pa.; his companion, Hilda Dellose of Elsmere; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Pittston, Pa., with burial in Denison cemetery , Kingston, Pa.
Charles L. Hart III,
retired from Verizon
Charles L. “Sonny” Hart III, of rural Frankford, died Friday, April 1, 2005, at home.
Mr. Hart was a retired splicer with Verizon Telephone Company. He served in the Coast Guard during the Vietnam War and was a member of St. George’s United Methodist Church, Clarksville. He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited and the Delaware Mobile Surf Fishermen.
He is survived by his mother, Lucille Czurley of Harbeson; his wife, Ruth Rust Hart; a son, Charles Grant Hart of Frankford; three daughters, Bethany Sparpaglione of Georgetown and Kelli and Kimberly Hart, both of Corpus Christi, Texas; three sisters, Susan Maedler of Lewes, Rebecca Carney of Harbeson and Ruth Hart of Texas; and two grandchildren, Emma and Dane.
Services will be held at noon, Wednesday, April 6 at the Bethany Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, West Ave., Ocean View, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday. Burial will be in St. George’s cemetery , Clarksville.

Bernard Frankel,
prominent engineer
Bernard “Bernie” Frankel, 83, of Milford, died Friday, April 1, 2005, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford.
Mr. Frankel was born July 25, 1921, in New York City, son of the late Harry S. and Beatrice Frankel.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1940 until 1946 in the Pacific Theater attached to the 22nd Bomb Group, 2nd Squadron, of the 5th Air Force, achieving the rank of staff sergeant.
Mr. Frankel was a licensed professional engineer in Delaware and Maryland and was responsible for designing, erecting and operating a diesel power plant for the former Sussex Poultry Co. in Milford after returning from his military service.
In 1955, he began employment with Hartford Steam Boiler and Insurance Co., based in Philadelphia. He was a consulting engineer and worked on many projects with the architectural firm of R.C. Clendaniel of Lincoln, including many local churches, the Benedictine School and the Intervet Poultry Laboratory.
He enjoyed sailing, hiking the Appalachian Trail and in Delaware state parks, and fishing with his wife, particularly at the Indian River Inlet and on the Cape Henlopen fishing pier.
Mr. Frankel was a member of the American Society of Engineers, a member of Veterans of Foreign War Blue Hen Post 6483, Milford, and was a former member of Shawnee Country Club, Milford.
He was preceded in death by a beloved grandson, Danny Guerke.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Frances Ellen Emory Frankel; a son and daughter-in-law, David S. and Susan Frankel of Houston, Texas; three daughters and a son-in-law, Gwen Guerke of Milford, Rebecca Willey of Lewes and Deborah F. and Paul Sords of Shaker Heights, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Christopher Frankel, Matthew Guerke, Eli Willey, Andrew Sords, Elizabeth Sords and Molly Sords; and a great-grandson, Mason Willey.
Services were held in Lofland Funeral Home, Milford, with burial in Milford Community cemetery , Milford.
