Donald N. Hammond Sr.,

Donald “Don” N. Hammond Sr., 67, of Teal Point, Milton, died Saturday, May 28, 2005 at Beebe Medical Center.
Mr. Hammond was born in Huntington County, Pa., the son of John and Florence Hammond. He lived in the Maryland and D.C. area for 40 years, moving to Delaware in 1995. He worked as a salesman for the Stanford Paper Co., Division of International Paper Co. for 40 years, retiring five years ago. He attended Eagles Nest Church in Milton. He had a passion for horse racing. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, golf, wildlife and birds and was an expert marksman. Every week he looked forward to his Saturday ritual with the L.T. Club, having breakfast and swapping stories with his friends.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Rose Marie Sears Hammond; his parents, John and Florence Hammond of Huntington County, Pa.; a son, Donald N. Hammond Jr. and his wife Sandra of Shadyside, Md.; a daughter, Deanna Lynn Hammond of Silver Spring, Md.; five stepchildren, Patricia G. Hughes, mayor of Bowie, Md., William A. Parks of Tangier Island, Va., Terry D. Greene of Shackelford, Va., Frank Bilotta of Bowie, Md. and Debora A. McKinney of Seaford; 15 great-grandchildren; a beloved aunt, Annabelle Foster of Huntington County, Pa.; his sisters, Sara Jane Bledsoe and her husband John of Lindale, Texas, Betty Ann Hammond of Dover and Sandra L. Kelly and her husband William of Martinez, Ga.; and his brothers, John R. Hammond Jr. and his wife Nancy of Tyrone, Pa., Lloyd F. Hammond and his wife Emily of Petersburg, Pa. and Daniel L. Hammond of Boalsburg, Pa.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 1, at Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton. There will be no calling hours and burial will be at a later date.

Marion “Ronnie” Lang,

Marion S. “Ronnie” Lang, 85, of Long Neck and formerly a longtime resident of New Jersey, died Sunday, May 29, 2005, at Green Valley Terrace, Millsboro.
Mrs. Lang was a homemaker.
She was born May 16, 1920 in Manhattan, N.Y. to the late Frederick and Marjory Swift Smith.
She was a member of the D.A.R., the Garden Club, and the Library Club and was a local GOP representative. She was very involved in community affairs, historical societies and the Mayflower Society.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Dwight C. Lang; two sons, Dwight T. Lang of Millsboro and Frederick S. Lang of Wilmington. N.C.; two daughters, Marjory D. Lang of Brielle, N.J. and Corinne S. Smith of Sachse, Texas; and eight grandchildren.
Graveside services and entombment will be at the Restland Memorial Park, East Hanover, N.J.

Cape cafeteria worker
Eleanor C. Hayes, 76, of Milton, died Friday, May 27, 2005, at Milford Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Hayes retired from the Cape Henlopen School District as a cafeteria worker and served many Rotary dinners with a smile. She was a sister of the Eastern Star. She will be dearly missed by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice E. Hayes Sr.
She is survived by her sister, Jean Loughead and her husband Richard of Downingtown, Pa.; two sons, Maurice E. Hayes Jr. and his wife Pamela of Milton and Paul E. Hayes and hs wife Maryanne of Millville; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 2, at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road, Millsboro.

Shirley Ann Banning Ruark,

Shirley Ann Banning Ruark, 70, of Bishops Head, Md., died Thursday, May 26, 2005, at home.
Mrs. Ruark was born Sept. 8. 1934 in Easton, Md., daughter of the late Gilbert Alton Banning and Nora Mae Hastings Banning.
She graduated from Federalsburg High School in 1953.
Mrs. Ruark had previously been employed by Maryland National Bank and Lucy’s Flowers. She had owned and operated Sure Sun in Seaford for the past 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Ruark, on July 3, 2002.
She is survived by three sons and three daughters-in-law, David A. and Anne Bradley of Federalsburg, Mark A. and Lisa Bradley of Baltimore and Gordon A. and Penny Bradley of Federalsburg; a daughter, Betsy A. Fearins of Rehoboth Beach; nine grandchildren, Justin Bradley, currently serving in the armed forces, Wendy Bradley of Seaford, Lindsay Bradley of Easton, Haley Bradley, Ryan Bradley and Greg Bradley, all of Federalsburg, Merek Bradley and Salle Bradley, both of Linthicum, Md. and India Bradley of Baltimore; a great-grandson, Trent Alton Bradley of North Carolina; three sisters, Barbara Marine of Federalsburg and Carol Banning and Janet Hubbard-Brown, both of Seaford; two brothers, Gerald Banning of Federalsburg and Edward Banning of Bridgeville; several nieces and nephews; and two special friends and neighbors, Lynn and Doug Mills of Bishops Head.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, in Hill Crest cemetery , Federalsburg.
Dr. Morris L. Turner

Dr. Morris L. Turner, 69, of Felton, died Friday, May 27, 2005, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford.
Dr. Turner was born Feb. 21, 1936 in Woodbury, N.J., the son of Grace Hughes Turner and the late Holiday Turner.
He graduated from Felton High School, the University of Delaware and Temple University School of Dentistry.
Dr. Turner was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in both the enlisted ranks and as a commissioned officer.
He practiced family dentistry in Camden from 1968 to 1998 and was known for investigating new and innovative techniques in dentistry.
He enjoyed a lifelong passion for aviation, building experimental aircraft and restoring antique airplanes. He was well known for his sense of humor and liked to tell funny stories and make people laugh. He also loved animals of all kinds and possessed a special talent for hypnotizing chickens, a trick he learned from a German POW interned in Felton during World War II.
He was a member of the Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford; Union Lodge 7 AF&AM; the Nur Temple Shrine; the Tall Cedars of Lebanon; and the Experimental Aircraft Association. He served on the Felton Bank board of directors.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sheila Turner; a son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Joan Turner of Felton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Dave Clapp of Wyoming and Marcelle and Dan Kenney of Crofton, Md.; his mother, Grace Turner of Milford; a brother and sister-in-law, Terrance and Margie Turner of Lewes; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at noon, Tuesday, May 31, in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 East Lebanon Road, Dover, where friends may call two hours earlier. Burial will be in Barratt’s Chapel cemetery , Frederica.

William O. Melson,
retired bricklayer
William O. Melson, 80, of Georgetown, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday May 26, 2005.
He was a retired bricklayer for the Brick Layers Union, Local #1 of Wilmington. Bill was a veteran of WWII, serving with the US Maritime Service. He was a member of the Indian River Tribe #37, Improved order of Redmen and was an avid hunter.
He was preceded in death by his son, William “Trey” Melson, III in 2004.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; a daughter, Terry M. Brewster and her husband Howard; three grand-daughters, Patricia M. Nelson and her husband Eric, Laura E. Caswell and her husband Vern, and Amanda L. Rogers and her husband Kenneth; seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday May 31, at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road in Millsboro, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Interment will be in Bethel Methodist cemetery
in Lewes.

Worthington B. Winslow,

Worthington Benjamin Winslow, 40, of Hopewell, N.J., died Monday, May 23, 2005, at his residence.
Mr. Winslow was born in New York City. He had been employed as a computer programmer. He was very fond of his two dogs, Malcolm and Emma, and enjoyed making pottery.
Mr. Winslow is survived by his parents, Benjamin Schwartz of Hurleyville, N.Y. and Catherine Winslow Priest and her husband, Martin, of Rehoboth Beach; two sons, Noah Schuyler Winslow and Cameron Paul Winslow; his former wife and mother of his sons, Shelley Burt-Muzio of Chester, N.J.; two sisters, Dr. Caren (Euster) Nelan and her husband, Ed, of Baldwin, Md., and Bryn Smith and husband, James, of Long Beach, N.Y; a brother, Wayne Euster, of Hunter, N.Y; and his beloved companion, Sharon Hirsch.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 2, at Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Parsell Funeral Homes, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, with Pastor Dwayne Smith and Rabbi Isaac Gottlieb officiating. Burial will be in Epworth Methodist Church cemetery , Rehoboth Beach.

Joy Virginia Anderson

Joy Virginia Anderson, 86, intrepid world traveler and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, died at her home in Santa Rosa, Calif. on April 29, 2005. She had had a lengthy struggle with arthritis, macular degeneration, and Parkinson’s disease.
She was born Joy Virginia Grubbs in New York City in 1919, raised mostly in Philadelphia, adventured to college at Stanford where she excelled at languages, spent her junior year with the Stanford program in Geneva, Switzerland in 1938, and graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa in 1940.
She then trained for secretarial work and was given a position by the State Department in Bogota, Columbia in 1942. There she met and married career Foreign Service officer Daniel Virden Anderson, of Dover. Together they served in Valencia, Spain, Havana, Cuba, Lisbon, Portugal, Madrid, Spain, Norfolk, Virginia, Saigon, Viet-Nam, Washington D.C., and Marseille, France until retirement in 1968. They had two children, Scott Virden in 1946 (now living in Ukiah, Calif.) and Joy Greer in 1948 (now living in Pacific Grove, Calif.). Scott has two daughters, Megan and Emily. Joy married Robert Weston in 1970 and together they have four children, Joy St. Claire, Daniel, Jake, and Anna.
Joy and Dan spent their lengthy retirement years rotating between their modest homes in McLean, Va., Rehoboth Beach, Holmes Beach, Fla., and Riboux, France. They continued to enjoy their travels and especially loved to host their many friends and relatives as they moved about.
Joy was active with the Foreign Service Women’s Association where she served a term as president, the United Nations Association, and the Phi Beta Kappa Association where she served as president of the chapter in Sarasota, Fla. in 1997. Joy and Dan were also active in the Holmes Beach Garden Club.
Daniel passed away in 1996 in Holmes Beach. In 2003 Joy moved to California to be closer to her two children and six grandchildren. She died peacefully on a gorgeous California spring day with her children by her side. She will be sorely missed by the many she touched with her lively wit, adventurous sprit, and generous heart.
Private services will be held in Delaware later this year.
John Capozio Jr.,

John Capozio Jr., 59, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Rehoboth Beach, died Sunday, May 22, 2005, in Englewood Community Hospital.
Mr. Capozio was born Jan. 16, 1946, in Dover. He was a contractor working in construction for many years. He moved to Port Charlotte three and a half years ago. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and he was a Christian.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; two sons, Alexander of Virginia and Jacob of Delaware; two daughters, Jiaya of Delaware and Isabella of Florida; his father, John Capozio Sr. of Englewood, Fla.; his mother, Lois Hatch of Tucson, Ariz.; and two brothers, Joseph of Fort Myers, Fla. and James of Virginia.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 11, at All Saints Episcopal Church, Olive Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, with burial in Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery , Patriots Way, Millsboro.

Jerdie K. Dorrell, 78, of Seaford, died Tuesday, May 24, 2005, in Lewes Convalescent Center, Lewes.
She was a homemaker and a school bus driver.
Mrs. Dorrell was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Dorrell, on Aug. 29, 2002; and a son, Ervin Dorrell, Jan. 8, 2005.
She is survived by two sons, Edward Dorrell of Stuarts Draft, Va. and Paul Dorrell of Seaford; a daughter, Linda Furroughs of Seaford; four sisters, Joyce Cartwright of Cumberland, Md., Doris Healey of Wilmington and Cathy Young and Nancy Deptula of Rehoboth Beach; three brothers, Robert Marine, Ervin Marine and John Marine, all of Wilmington; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, in Cranston Funeral Home, 300 N. Shipley Street, Seaford; where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery , Millsboro.
Emilye Elizabeth Mason,

Emilye Elizabeth Mason, newborn daughter of Vandie and Bob Mason, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Along with her parents, she is survived by two brothers, Robert Thomas Mason Jr. and Samuel Alexander Mason; a sister, Brandi Leigh Mason; her maternal grandmother, Pearl Taylor; paternal grandmother, Barbara Blaquiere; her paternal grandfather, Melvin Howington; three aunts; two uncles; and nine cousins.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, in the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Thatcher Street, Frankford. Interment will be in the Dagsboro Redmens Memorial cemetery.

Delaware Bay pilot
G. Stevens “Steve” Lyshon III, 67, of Fort Pierce, Fla. passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born September 16, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pa., son of Gilbert Stevens Lyshon and Helen Secrest Lyshon. He has been a resident of Fort Pierce for 25 years, coming from Lewes. Steve graduated from Haverford High School and became a licensed pilot in 1959. For the past 47 years, Capt. Lyshon has been a Delaware Bay and River Harbor Pilot.
Steve was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He owned and skippered numerous sport fishing boats, winning many billfish tournaments during his career. He was a skilled craftsman, designing, building, and renovating boats of all types. He was a partner in several boat building companies and boatyards. He was also a FAA licensed aircraft pilot and owned and flew a number of different planes. Steve was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Pelican Yacht Club. He served with the United States Coast Guard.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Louise “Fifi” Gardner Lyshon of Fort Pierce; two sons, Skip Lyshon and Will Lyshon, both of Fort Pierce; daughters, Ellen Dickson of Easton, Md. and Missy Lyshon of Fort Pierce; four grandchildren, Megan Lyshon, Steven Lyshon, Christann Dickson and Adam Dickson; and one sister, Jerri Ives of Vero Beach, Fla.
Friends may call from 1 until 3 p.m., Saturday, May 28, at Yates Funeral Home, Fort Pierce followed by a memorial service in the funeral home chapel at 3 p.m.
