Beulah J. Murphy,

Beulah J. Murphy, 79, of Bridgeville, died Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at home.
Mrs. Murphy was born Sept. 1, 1925, in Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was employed as a senior companion with First State Community Action Agency since 1998.
Mrs. Murphy was known for her love of cooking and hard work and was very active in her family, her church and her community. Her life is not a passing memory, but a living tribute to all who knew her worth.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, William H. Murphy Sr.; two daughters, Shirley Styles of Bridgeville and Bernice Rayne of Seaford; two sons, William Murphy of Bridgeville and Jesse Murphy of Lewes; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of additional relatives and friends.
Services were held in Victory Temple Church, Bridgeville, with burial in Macedonia cemetery , Seaford.
George L. Meili Sr.,
retired sales manager
George Louis Meili Sr., 86, of The Plantations in Lewes, passed away Friday, May 20, at home with his family by his side.
George was born in Philadelphia, and lived most of his life in Lawrenceville, N.J. He was a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy, serving his country for 16 years. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor on the USS Enterprise and served in the Pacific Theater during WWII, receiving the Presidential Citation along with many other honors. He was also a veteran of the Korean War.
George retired from the West Chemical Company as sales manager of the New York area and enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Elizabeth; five children, Gayle Striefford, George, Gary, Gerilyn and Gregory Meili; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 25, at The Plantations Clubhouse, followed by a visitation with the family until 7:30 p.m.

Doris Bozman Price,
retired seamstress
Doris Bozman Price, of Salisbury, Md., died Sunday, May 15, 2005, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.
Born in Eden, she was the daughter of Robert and Annie Watson Bozman.
She was a retired seamstress and was a member of Riverside Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton G. Price Sr. in 1993, and a sister, Mildred Twilley.
She is survived by three children, M.G. Price Jr. of Lewes, Janice Price Steele and Alan Steele of Lewes, and Robin Washburn and Tucker Washburn of Salisbury; her grandchildren, Christine Rockwell, Abby Sweitzer, David Steele, Adam and Chase Washburn; a great-granddaughter, Landon Rockwell; and nieces Sylvia Parsons of Salisbury and Betty Jean Tromley of Satellite Beach, Fla.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 21, at Holloway Funeral Home, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.

Faith G. Farrow,
retired factory worker
Faith G. Farrow, 91, of Milton, died Friday, May 13, 2005, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mrs. Farrow was born in Mount Pillar, Vt., the daughter of the late William F. and Abbie Morey Gibbs. She moved from Union, Maine to Delaware in 1964.
She was a factory worker for Knoll Mill Woolen Co. for 15 years, retiring in 1958.
She enjoyed painting and crafts.
She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Georgetown and was in the church choir and the Wesley United Methodist Women.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Weston A. Farrow, and a brother, Alphia Gibbs.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Clayton Perry of Georgetown; two brothers, Neil Gibbs of East Vassalboro, Maine and William Gibbs of North Creek, N.Y.; a granddaughter and her husband, Melissa and Dave Hitchens of Georgetown; and two great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Hitchens and Connor Hitchens.
Services were held at Short Funeral Services, Georgetown, with burial in Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton.

William Mann,
retired foreman
William Mann, 82, of Millsboro and formerly of Dallastown, Pa., died Sunday, May 15, 2005, at home.
He was a foreman at the American Chain and Cable Co. of York, Pa., retiring after 30 years of service. After retirement, he worked in the maintenance department of Townsends Inc. of Millsboro for nine years.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion Post 28 of Oak Orchard/Riverdale, VFW Post 7045 of Hellam, Pa. and was a charter member of Elks Lodge 2540 in Lewes.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Margaret Ellen Keller; five sisters; and two brothers.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Dorothy Witmer Mann; two daughters, Deborah Kauffman and Susan Silar; a sister, Sarah Smeltzer of Dallastown; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck, with a private burial.

Babby Moore Hannum,

Babby Moore Hannum, 44, of Port Deposit, Md., and formerly of Lewes, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2005, at home.Babby was born in Lewes, the daughter of the late Jacob and Beatrice E. Lowe Moore. She spent most of her life in the Harbeson and Lewes areas before moving to Port Deposit seven years ago. During her time in Delaware she was a bartender at Grotto Grand Slam in Lewes and a member of American Legion Post 17 Auxiliary, Lewes. She was a Cape Henlopen High School graduate anda people persoon who always enjoyed spending time with others.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Shelly Creed.She is survived by a son, Jason Lawson of Port Deposit, MD.; a granddaughter, Lea Dubosq; a sister, Bebe Moore of Lewes; a brother, Wayne Hudson of Montana; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dogs, Buddy and Duke.A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, May 22, on Lewes Beach and the north end of the main parking lot. Joseph A. Owens Jr.,

Joseph A. Owens Jr., 67 of Millsboro, lost his battle with cancer on Saturday, May 14, 2005, at his residence.
Mr. Owens was born in Pennsauken, N.J., son of the late Joseph A. Sr. and Susan (Richards) Owens. He had previously lived in Cherry Hill, N.J. and Abingdon, Md., prior to moving to Sussex County three years ago. He had worked for the Beneficial Management Corporation as a Financial Branch Manager. He was a member of the East Gate Presbyterian Church, Long Neck.
Mr. Owens was the beloved husband and childhood sweetheart of his wife of 46 1/2 years, Ruth A. “Muffet” (Updegraff) Owens. He was a wonderful husband, great father, and loved his family very much. He bravely fought his battle with cancer. Mr. Owens loved and appreciated his many friends. He also enjoyed boating.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Owens is survived by a daughter, Carole A. Owens of New Jersey; two sons, Joseph W. Owens and his wife Lori of North Carolina and James R. Owens and his wife Sheri of New Jersey; a beloved sister, Mary Ann Owens; two brothers; four grandchildren, Patrice, Amber, James and Tyler; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday May 21, at the East Gate Presbyterian Church, Long Neck Road, with Pastor Gary Knapp officiating. Interment will be private.

Otto Karl Lange, 68, of Whispering Pines, N.C., died Friday, May 13, 2005, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
Born May 5, 1937, in Lewes, he was the son of the late Otto E.T. and Anna Dupenkaupt Lang.
Otto worked for Perdue, Whittington Farms. Chesapeake, Mountaire and House of Raeford poultry processing companies and he owned and operated Langot Incorporated. He was past president of Southern Pines Rotary Club and was also a Paul Harris Fellow. He was coordinator of the Community Bible Study Group and was a member of the Southern Pines United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Colleen “Connie” Lange of Whispering Pines; a daughter, April, and her husband, Jimmie Causer of Hinesville, Ga.; two sons, Mark, and his wife, Babette Lange, of Seaford, and Matthew Lange of High Point, N.C.; a sister, Rosann, and her husband, Groome Mears, of Lewes; and nine grandchildren.
Services were held at Bethesda United Methodist Church, Salisbury, Md., with burial in Parsons cemetery , Salisbury.

Joseph E. “Joey” Chiapetta, 42, of Concord Township, Pa., and previously of Aston, died Sunday, May 15, 2005, in Crozer Chester Medical Center.
Mr. Chiapetta attended Sun Valley High School and he was co-owner of the Sundance Saloon in Aston. He was a member of the Church of St. Joseph in Aston.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Diana Jurich Chiapetta; a son, Joshua Eugene Chiapetta at home; his parents, Eugene and Joanne Chiapetta of Lewes; a sister, Joanne Bateson of Lewes; two brothers, Michael Chiapetta of Lewes and Stephan Chiapetta of Concord Township; maternal grandparents, Harold and Esther Knox of Lewes; and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Church of St. Joseph, with burial in St. Thomas the Apostle cemetery , Chester Heights.

John P. ‘Jack’ Schmid,

John P. “Jack” Schmid, 81, of Riverdale, Millsboro, died Monday, May 16, 2005, at Harbour Healthcare in Lewes.
Jack was born Feb. 5, 1924, in Philadelphia to the late Philip G. and Florence E. Magil Schmid. He grew up in Wilmington and graduated from A.I. DuPont High School and Goldey Beacom College.
During WWII he served in Europe in the 116th Anti-Aircraft Battalion, 1st Army Division. He retired in 1986 from the Painters and Allied Crafts Union. He was an avid golfer with the Sussex Seniors and a past district commander for the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Rehoboth VFW Post 7447.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Kathryn Schmid, who died March 4, 2005, and his brother, Milne J. Schmid.
He is survived by his sister, Phyllis S. Goodwin; in-laws, Dorothy Schmid of Enterprise, Ala., Anna and Richard Jackson of Newark and Ray and Blanche Brown of Pleaston, Ca.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, May 20, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery , Millsboro.

Catherine M. Serman,

Catherine M. Serman, 78, of Frankford, died Thursday, May 12, 2005, at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Serman was born Nov. 20, 1926, in Fruitland, Md., daughter of the late John Bell and Daisy Summons. She later moved to Delaware, making it her home.
She retired in 1989 from Townsend’s Inc., near Millsboro after 40 years of service. She was a member of Union-Wesley United Methodist Church in Clarksville. She is survived by three daughters, Annie M. “Mae Mae” Ford of Frankford, Diana L. Duffy of Rehoboth Beach and Adrian Serman of Millsboro; two sons, Vandyke Ford of Georgetown and Jamison Serman of Frankford; a sister, Delores Beckwith of Frankford; an aunt, Edna Hope of Frankford; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, in St. John 2nd Baptist Church, Mt. Joy Road,, Millsboro, where friends may call two hours earlier.
