Kathleen H. Goetchius,

Kathleen H. Goetchius, 79, of Rehoboth Beach, died Sunday, July 17, 2005, at Christiana Medical Center in Christiana. Mrs. Goetchius was born April 22, 1926 in New York City, N.Y. to the late George S. and Johanna Itczak Litz.
Mrs. Goetchius was an auxiliary member of the American Legion Post 5 in Rehoboth Beach. In 1986 she retired from Klemtner Advertising Inc., a New York City pharmaceutical advertising agency subsidiary of Saatchi & Saatchi, where she was manager of the editorial department. During her retirement she continued to do freelance editing and rewriting.
Her husband, Albert W. Goetchius, died in 1998.
Mrs. Goetchius is survived by many lifelong friends, Helen Kelly and Patricia and Michael Hoffman Sr. of Middletown, N.Y.; Kathleen Hoffman-Sanin and her husband Norman Sanin and their children, and Ellen Mary and Adam Peter of Washington, D.C.; Michael Hoffman Jr. and his wife Stephanie of Goshen, N.Y.; two brothers, Stanley and Randolph Litz, both of New York City; a sister, Marion Steele of Hebron, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m., Monday, July 25, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, with Pastor Randy Booth officiating. Following there will be an 11 a.m. chapel committal service at Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery , Millsboro, where Mrs. Goetchius will be interred with her husband.

Thomas John Chinchar,
retired electrician
Thomas John Chinchar, of Lewes, died July 14, 2005 at home. He was born June 30, 1937 in Hopelawn, N.J. to the late Mamie and Michael Chinchar.
Mr. Chinchar was a retired electrician from IBEW local 358, Perth Amboy, N.J, and had been a partner in his own electrical business prior to retirement. He had served as president and a business representative of IBEW local 358. He served as a machinist mate in the U.S. Navy and as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 28.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Hester Chinchar; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Jason Ford of New York City, N.Y.; three sisters, Arlene Dunphy of Belleville, N.J., Dolores Forziatti of Edison, N.J. and Gloria Kuran of Hopelawn, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 26, at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 7 Bay Vista Drive, Rehoboth Beach. Burial with military honors will be held at Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery , near Millsboro.

Michele D. Matruder,

Michele Deppen Matruder, 39 of Wilmington, died peacefully at home Sunday, July 17, 2005, surrounded by her loving family.
Michele was raised in Wilmington and graduated from Concord High School in 1984. Michele was attending Delaware Technical & Community College in Stanton, studying to be a nurse, her lifelong goal, when she became ill. Michele enjoyed watching her children participate in sports and coached CYO girls’ basketball for Holy Rosary parish.
Michele is survived by her loving husband of 16 years, Mark Robert Matruder; her children, Ryan, Amanda and Lindsey, all at home; her parents, Robert and Patricia Deppen of Wilmington; her in-laws, Don and Ruth Matruder Smythe of Rehoboth; her maternal grandmother, Dorothy McCullin of Wilmington; great grandfather, Karl A.H. Krause of New Ringold, Pa.; her sisters, Andrea and her husband, Steve Romito, and their two sons, Michael and Andrew, of Slidell, La., and Danielle and her husband, Eric Harris, and their daughter, Kaitie, of Newark; and her brother, Justin Deppen and his fiancée, Monica Diflo, of Hockessin; her sister-in-law, Kim and her husband, Albert J. Roop IV, and their children AJ and Meghan, of Wilmington; her stepsisters, Elaine Smythe and her son, Connor Crompton, of New Castle, Donna Smythe of New York City; stepbrother, David Smythe of New York City, and his daughter, Alexa, of Dover; and godmother, Jessica Frederick of Newport.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Holy Rosary Church, Claymont.

Anna D. Reuling,

Anna Demmer Reuling, 69, of Rehoboth Beach, died Saturday, July 16, 2005, at her residence.
She was born June 7, 1936 in Munchen, Germany to the late George and Amali Gottlob Demmer.
Mrs. Reuling was employed for many years by Macy's Department Store at the Christiana Mall. She then worked for 10 years at the K-Mart in Rehoboth Beach until her death. She was an avid bowler for the local senior league. She loved ceramics to the extent that she owned and taught classes at Anna's Ceramics at the Brookside Shopping Center in the 1970s and early 1980s. She was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Newark.
She was married to Richard H. Reuling Sr. for 28 years; he died July 14, 1996. She is survived by her children, Joseph "Butch" Moore, Elizabeth Moore, Patrick Moore Sr., Rebecca Thompson, Richard Reuling Jr., Calvin Reuling, Sue Davis and Bobby Reuling; 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. where the family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, July 20. A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 21, 11 a.m., at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 200 Marrows Road, Newark, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Herbert Hoeflinger will officiate. Interment will be at Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery , Bear.

Ralph D. Morgan,

Ralph D. Morgan, 41, of Milton, died Sunday, July 10, 2005, in an airplane accident. Mr. Morgan was born July 23, 1963, in Lewes, to Richard and Patricia (Short) Morgan, currently of Summerfield, Fla.
Mr. Morgan was raised in Rehoboth Beach. He was employed as a service technician for Suburban Propane. He enjoyed working on anything mechanical for himself and others. Ralph was an extremely caring man who was a devoted and loving husband and father. He loved spending time with his children and family.
Mr. Morgan died doing what he loved. He was a member of the Mid Atlantic R.V. Wing Team. Ralph was a certified formation pilot in addition to being qualified to fly aerobatic maneuvers in formation. He flew with the Vultures Precision Formation Team for more than four years.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife Diane Morgan, his son Joshua Morgan of Milton, his daughter Carolyn Morgan of Huntington, W.V., his stepdaughter Jennifer Sechrist of Milton; his grandson Daniel Morgan of Huntington, two sisters, Laurie Morgan of Lewes and Lisa Morgan-Sloan of Buford, Ga., and his maternal grandmother Dorothy Short.
All services were private. Arrangements were handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel in Lewes.

Michael C. Haseldine,
retired entrepreneur
Michael Cyril Haseldine, 79, of Milton, died Saturday, July 16, 2005, at home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Haseldine was born in Nottinghampshire, England, Aug. 30, 1925, lived in Canada and in many United States locations including New York, Massachusetts and several Delaware cities, including Rehoboth Beach and New Castle. He spent most of his professional life as an entrepreneur. Over the past several decades he worked in the poultry industry on Delmarva and in other areas of the country.
As a youth growing up in England during the Nazi Germany onslaught of Europe, he left school to join the fight in 1942. With the enlistment age of 18, the 17-year-old kept his true age a secret and enlisted. From 1942 to 1947 Mr. Haseldine fought for his native country, joining the British Army and participated in D-Day at Sword Beach. Mr. Haseldine was involved in the liberation of concentration camps and after the Nazis were defeated, Mr. Haseldine, a master sergeant, was stationed in Germany as part of the British Army of the Rhine.
After World War II he moved to Canada and met his future wife, Marjorie May Shaw and the two were married in Jamestown, N.Y,. May 26, 1956. The couple has lived in Milton for the past five years.
He enjoyed reading all types of books and periodicals and was an aviation buff and former pilot. He will be remembered for his English charm, British accent and vivid stories, all told with humor and a twinkle in his eye.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Michael Jr. of Annapolis, Md.; daughters Suzanne Thurman of Milton, Sally Geisser of Rockville, Md. and Jane Haseldine-Cole of Dover; a daughter-in-law, Jan Haseldine; sons-in-law, Christopher Thurman and Darrel Cole; and grandchildren, Ian and Carly Thurman, Emma Geisser and Thea and Eva Haseldine.
A memorial service will be held at Short Funeral Services Milton Chapel, 416 Federal St., Thursday, July 21, with visitation at 4:30 p.m. and the service at 5 p.m.

Sylvia M. Bonk,

Sylvia M. Bonk, 87, passed away peacefully July 12, 2005, at Christiana Hospital.
Sylvia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was the daughter of Percival and Lettie Marshall, and the granddaughter of lighthouse keepers living for a time at the renowned Cape Henlopen Lighthouse. She grew up in Wilmington and Lewes, graduating from Lewes High School in 1935. She retired from the Diamond State Telephone Co., where she was a telephone operator for 22 years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers retirees group. She was an avid quilter and loved to crochet. She took great pleasure giving her handmade quilts and baby blankets to friends and family. After retirement, she enjoyed taking bus trips throughout the country with her husband and friends, and spending time at the beach.
She was predeceased by her husband, Vincent, who died in 1999; and her brother, Henry Marshall. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Dorsney and her husband, Laurence; son, David Bonk and his fiancée, Grace Roberts; and grandchildren, Suzanne Shields and her husband, Thomas, Kenneth Dorsney and his wife, Constance, Jaime Haase and her husband, Brian, and Erin Bonk. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren, Thomas, Matthew, John, Stephanie and Jessica Shields and Tyler and Augusta Dorsney. She also leaves behind her beloved cats, Maudie and Maddie, who gave her great comfort and company in recent years.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held July 16, at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Woodacres. Interment was in All Saints cemetery.

Doris M. Frey,

Doris M. Frey, 82, of Long Neck and formerly of Wilmington, passed away at her home, Friday, July 15, 2005.
She was born Oct. 9, 1922, in Salem, N.J., and was the daughter of the late Charles and Georgeanna Banks. Doris worked in the early years at Anchor Hocking in Salem and on the ferry boat between Delaware and New Jersey, and held many various jobs before becoming a full time homemaker. She was also a pleasure to talk with, always wanting to help people, and she will be dearly missed by all.
In addition to her parents, Doris was predeceased by a son, Ronald W. Frey, in 2000; brother, Milton Banks; and sister, Vera Allen. She will be dearly missed by her loving husband, Gene F. Frey Sr.; one son, Gene F. Frey Jr. and daughter-in-law, Kathy of Middletown; one grandson, Brian G. Frey and his wife, Jennifer, of MiddIetown; one brother, Charles V. Banks and his wife, Jackie; brother-in-law, Forrest Kirk; along with many nieces and nephews. Doris was expecting her first great-grandson in October.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek, on Tuesday morning at 11 :30 a.m., July 19, where friends may call after 10:30 a.m. Entombment will be in Silverbrook Memorial Park.

Harvey D. Harmon,

Harvey Douglas Harmon of Jimtown in Lewes, died after a brief illness, Friday, July 15, 2005, in Beebe Medical Center. He was 88.
Mr. Harmon was born July 11, 1917, near Lewes, son of the late Harvey Hickman and Helen Draine Harmon. He was known to many as Douglas and grew up in Lewes, later moving to Wilmington.
He worked for the Wilmington Water Department and E.I. Dupont Nemours for more than 25 years, retiring in 1977.
Mr. Harmon was a member of Star in the East Lodge 1, Corinithian Consistory 5 and Suakim Temple 60, all in Wilmington.
He is survived by his wife, Rita M. Newman Harmon of Wilmington; two sons and two daughters-in-law, James R. “Jimmy” and Barbara Harmon of Lewes and William D. “Billy” and Juanita Harmon of Wilmington; a stepson and a stepdaughter-in-law, Victor and Minnie Lee Newman; two daughters and a son-in-law, Charlotte Harmon Givens of Dover and Rita Ann and Sidney Jacobs of Wilmington; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles L. Harmon of Millsboro; and an uncle and his wife, Mannie and Delema Harmon of Millsboro.
Services will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, July 20, at Israel United Methodist Church on Plantation Road in Lewes, where friends may call two hours earlier. A Masonic service will be at noon.
Burial will be in Israel cemetery
in Lewes.

Betty J. Eibling,

Betty J. Eibling, 74, of Bethany Beach, died at her home Sunday July 17, 2005.
She was born in Hickory, N.C. and was a graduate of St. Stephen’s High School of the Springs Road area of Hickory.Betty was a very active lifelong church member with Lutheran churches in many parts of the country.
Serving as chairman of the altar guild, choir member, and Bible study teacher, most recently she served with the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Rehoboth Beach.
She served as vice president of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of Lutheran Brotherhood and was the volunteer congregational coordinator for Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Joseph H. Eibling; three sons, Russell Eibling of Aiken, S.C., Michael Eibling of Buena Vista, Co., and Frederick Eibling of Bel-Air, Md.; two brothers, Deams Huffman of Matthews, N.C. and Tim Huffman of Hickory; two sisters, Gloria Wessel of Colombia, Md. and Martha Huffman of Charlotte, N.C.; and six grandchildren.A memorial service will be held Saturday July 23, at 11 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 7 Bay Vista Road, Rehoboth Beach.

Paul Jones Hughes Jr.

Paul Jones Hughes Jr. of Lewes died Monday, July 11, 2005, in his home, on his 80th birthday.
Mr. Hughes, a native of Kentucky, spent the last 31 years as a Lewes resident. He was an avid antiques dealer and collector and worked for a number of years as a news reporter for “The Whale” and the “Delaware Coast Press.”
Before relocating to Lewes, Mr. Hughes lived with his family in suburban Baltimore, where he spent the bulk of his career in health services fundraising. He was employed by the National Foundation for the March of Dimes and United Cerebral Palsy, serving as UCP’s executive director of central Maryland. He later served as executive director of the Delaware Kidney Foundation.
In his spare time, Mr. Hughes often traveled to antique shows in the area to buy and sell merchandise. He enjoyed frequenting auctions and flea markets in Kent and Sussex counties and on the Maryland Eastern Shore, and was a dealer at Antique Village in Lewes.
A lifelong sports fan, he closely followed the Baltimore professional teams.
Mr. Hughes was born July 11, 1925, in Ashland, Ky., the son of Paul Jones Hughes Sr. and Jesse Owens Hughes. He was an alumnus of Male High School in Louisville, Ky., and Centre College in Danville, Ky. He was a graduate of the University of Baltimore Law School.
He is survived by his sister, Betty Hughes Meredith of Annapolis, Md.; his former wife, Margarita Minich Hughes of Lexington, Ky.; three sons, Paul III of Nashville, Tenn.; Henry of Birmingham, Ala.; and David of Bear; three nieces; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward H. Hughes of London, in 1992.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, July 18, at St. George’s Episcopal Chapel on Beaver Dam Road in Angola, with the Rev. Max J. Wolf officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
A reception will follow in the parish hall.
