Frank Somers Frazier,
warehouse foreman
Frank Somers Frazier, age 94, of Lewes, died Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at the home of his daughter, Linda Coco of Lewes, under the care of Delaware Hospice. He was born Oct. 12, 1910, in Baltimore, to the late Frank and Mary “Miller” Frazier. Mr. Frazier was a longtime resident of Canton Highland Town area near Baltimore.
Mr. Frazier had been employed for many years as a warehouse foreman by Ship Chandler Supply, near Baltimore. He enjoyed horse racing, darts and playing pool. He was best known for his great sense of humor and the love of his family.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Frazier was preceded in death by his wife Loretta (Praglowski) Frazier in 2000. He is survived by three daughters, Linda F. Coco, Geraldine Wisniewski of Millsboro, and Marlene Banaszewski of Lewes; one son Frank Somers Frazier Jr. of Stevensville, Md.; nine grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and one half-brother Robert Baker of Baltimore.
Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel in Lewes. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, July 15, at the funeral home with Rev. Doug Albert officiating. Interment will follow at All Saints cemetery
near Angola.

Thomas W. McLaughlin,
known as ‘Sweet Tom’
Thomas “Tommy” William McLaughlin, age 67, of Millsboro, passed away from lung cancer on Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at his residence. He was born Aug. 16, 1937. in Newark, N.J., to the late Thomas and Gertrude (Hornig) McLaughlin.
After serving two years in the U.S. Marine Corp, he went to work as a Bartender at Union Elks 1583, Union, N.J., for 30 years where he was known as “Sweet Tom.” After moving to Delaware in 1990, he went to work as a bartender at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club for 12 years, where he was fondly called “Grouchy Old Man” by the female wait staff. Mr. McLaughlin loved fishing and the beach.
He is survived by his significant other of 30 years, Mary Catherine Montagne, a daughter, Lori Yurchak and husband Gary of Edison, N.J., two sons, Michael McLaughlin of Edison, N.J. and Thomas McLaughlin and wife Kathy of Maynardville, Tenn.; two step-sons, Ken Meisch and wife Debbie of Union, N.J., and Gary Meisch and wife Anne of Scotch Plains, N.J.; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and four step-grandchildren; and two sisters, Gertrude Barck-owski of Port Reading, N.J. and Judy Cantalopo of Lawrence Harbor, N.J.
Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where a Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, July 18, with the Rev. Larry Ganster officiating.

Joseph H. Evans,
active firefighter
Joseph Harold Evans, age 61, of Bridgeville, died suddenly Sunday, July 10, 2005, at the scene of a fire alarm. He was born July 1, 1944, in Milford, to the late Joseph E. and Rebecca “Hulliger” Evans.
Mr. Evans was an agricultural farmer all his life. He was also a telephone lineman first for Diamond State and then Bell Atlantic for 33 years retiring in 1998. Mr. Evans had received the Spirit of Excellence Award from Bell Atlantic and was a member of the telephone pioneers.
He was a life member of the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department, joining in 1964 where he was named fireman of the year in 1968. He had also held over the years the positions of treasurer, chief engineer, engineer, first assistant chief and second assistant chief.
Mr. Evans had also held positions in several other fire organizations which included past president of the State Chief’s Association, DelMarVa Fireman’s Association, Sussex County Fire Chief’s Association and Sussex County Fireman’s Association as well as having served on numerous other committee appointments throughout the years. In 1962, he was a member of the Blue Gold All Star Football team.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Evans was predeceased by his wife of 23 years, Beverly I. “Lucks” Evans in 1993, and his sister Gail Elizabeth Evans in 2003.
He is survived by his daughter, Kim N. (Evans) VanBuskirk, his son-in-law Andrew E. VanBuskirk and his son Kevin Evans, all of Bridgeville, and two grandchildren Beverly Delaney VanBuskirk and Cassie Drew VanBuskirk.
Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, where the family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, July 15. Funeral services with full fire fighters honors will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 16, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, William Street, Bridgeville, with Father Joseph James officiating.
Interment will be at Bridgeville cemetery
in Bridgeville. An outdoor service under a canopy has been arranged to accommodate those attending.

Joseph W. Strong Sr.
Navy veteran
Joseph Wilbur Strong Sr. of Chestertown died Saturday, July 9, 2005, in Christiana Care-Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was 83.
Mr. Strong was born Oct. 21, 1921, in Chestertown, Md., son of the late James Edgar Sr. and Hester Long Strong.
He was a 1938 graduate of Rock Hall High School.
Mr. Strong enlisted in the U.S. Navy in Pensacola, Fla., where he received flight training. He served in the United States during World War II at the rank of lieutenant, flying out of Cape May, N.J.
He returned to Chestertown following the war. From 1951 until 1974, he owned and operated C.W. Kibler and Sons Inc., a business dealing in grain, fertilizer, lime, seed and coal. He also owned and operated Kibler’s Marina from 1959 until 1995, and the Old Wharf Inn from 1975 until 1985. He retired in 1995.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time at their beach home in Rehoboth Beach. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and his family.
Mr. Strong was a member of Rock Hall Yacht Club, Chester River Yacht and Country Club and Old St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Kent. He served as a Kent County commissioner in 1963 and 1964, and on the board of directors of Chesapeake Bank and Trust. He also was a member of the Chestertown Cruising Club and the Fairlee Men’s Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death on Nov. 12, 2004, by his wife, Florence Walls Strong, whom he had married Oct. 23, 1943.
He is survived by a daughter, Diana Strong Williams of Chestertown; a son, Joseph W. Strong Jr. of Wyoming; five grandchildren, Julie Kennedy, Richard J. Strong, Susan Emeigh, Jessie-Lee Williams and Natalie V. Williams; and six great-grandchildren - Matthew, Brandon, Austin, Seth, Dylan and Madison.
Services will be 11 a.m., Friday, July 15, in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Kent, Chestertown.
Burial will be in St. Paul’s cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Chester River Hospital Center, 100 Brown St., Chestertown, MD 21620; or to the American Heart Association.
Emma Mae Welsh,
Christian family woman
Emma Mae Welsh, 92, expired Sunday, July 10, 2005, at Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Lewes, where she had been a resident for the past two years.
Born in Berwick, Pa., to Irvin and Mabel Rex Becker, Mae spent her childhood in Tamaqua, Pa., and most of her life in Coaldale, Pa., where she worked as a sewing machine operator until her retirement in 1974. She moved to Main Towers in Newark in 1980. She was of the Christian faith, a lifetime member of the Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder Ladies Auxiliary and the Newark Senior Center.
Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Karl; daughter, Carol Gazdick; and sisters, Addora Becker and Stella Williams. She is survived by two of her three children, Jack and his wife, Bernie, of Lewes and Donna of Marietta, Pa.; and son-in-law, Donald Gazdick of Landenberg, Pa. She is also survived by grandchildren, Linda Angelo and her husband, Mike, of Dover, Donald Gazdick Jr. of Landenberg, Pa., Jack Welsh Jr. and his wife, Marci, of Purcellville, Va., Mark Welsh and his wife, Becky, of Chadds Ford, Pa., Holly Galeschewski and her husband, Gene, of Mount Joy, Pa., Heather Heilman-Loercher and her husband, Scott, of Wrightsville, Pa.; and great grandchildren, Michael, David and Christopher Angelo, all of Dover, Stephen, Megan, Kristin and Kaitlin Gazdick. all of Newark, Jack D. Welsh III of Alexandria, Va. and Sebastian, Tatum and Larsen Welsh, all of Chadds Ford, Pa.
She will be honored at a private service in Summit Hill, Pa.

John J. Tulowitzki,
Construction worker
John James Tulowitzki, 36, of Midland, Pa., died on Saturday, July 9, 2005.
Mr. Tulowitzki was born in Wilmington, on April 1, 1969. A construction worker by profession, he was a member of Laborer’s Union Local 199 in Delaware. He then worked for Sam Smith in Midland, Pa., for several years. He was also a member of VFW Post 8168 in Midland.
He is survived by his parents, Richard C. Tulowitzki Sr. and Joanne Adams Tulowitzki of New Castle; biological mother, Janet Gregory and her husband, Arthur, of Smyrna; two brothers, Richard C. Tulowitzki Jr. and his wife, Shelly, of New Castle, and William Wakeling of Smyrna; six sisters, Debra Jones and her husband, Tom, of Clermont, Fla., Donna Marine of Enumclaw, Wash., Dawn Walker and her husband, Jack, of Middletown, Bonnie Jenkins and her husband, Ryland, of Richmond, Va., Deborah Morgan and her husband, Randy, of Va., and JoAnn Kelher of North Palm Beach, Fla.; nieces and nephews, Joan Schuster and her husband, Bryan; Thomas Jones Jr. and his wife, Brook; Mollie, Daniel and Claire Marine, Jordan, Christina and Richard Tulowitzki, Dana, John and Joseph Walker, Jennifer Morgan, Paul, Jason and Jeremy Jenkins; three aunts, Linda Foster of New Castle, Beverly Atwood and her husband, Edward, of Newark, and Patricia Lockwood and her husband, Dave, of Lewes; five uncles, Hal Barker and his wife, Beverly, of New Castle, Fred Tulowitzki of New York City, N.Y., Charles Andrews of Renova, Pa., Joseph Andrews and his wife, Millie, of Lewes, and Eddie Andrews of Wilmington; and cousins, Steven Foster, Sara Barker, Ed Atwood and his wife, Patricia, Melissa Tate and her husband, Michael, Joe Tulowitzki and his wife, Joanne, Walter Tulowitzki, Mike Tulowitzki and John Tulowitzki and his wife, Kathy.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Coryell Family (David, Len, Cathy, Rita, Donna and Carrie), who were John’s extended family and also to John’s many friends in the VFW.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Friday, July 15, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.

Kathleen A. Moore,
retired nurse
Kathleen A. Moore, 62 and a 12-year resident of Wilmington, formerly of Upper Chichester, Pa., died July 10, 2005, at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington.
Kathleen was born in Chester, Pa., to the late Edward J. and Hazel M. Leo Phillips. While raising children, she went to nursing school, where she graduated second in her class. She was an LPN for 36 years, working at the Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Sacred Heart Hospital, retiring in 1995. She was a member of Richardson Park Methodist Church. She was open hearted, an avid reader, and loved children, animals and country music. She was devoted to her home and family.
Survivors include her husband of 21 years, Leonard E. Moore; children, Kevin Burns of Wilmington, Lawrence Burns of Claymont, Kathleen Burns and Maureen Lundgren, both of Hummelstown, Pa., and Roberta McDonnell of Linwood, Pa.; and stepchildren, Joseph Moore of Dover, Robert Moore of Wilmington, Lenny Moore of Upland, Pa., Cherie Campbell of New Castle and Donna Macaron of New Castle. Other survivors include brothers, Edward Phillips of Claymont and Mark Weinstein of Seattle, Wash.; one sister, Roberta Fessenbecker of Rehoboth Beach; and 24 grandchildren.
The funeral was held July 14, and interment was in Mt. Hope cemetery
in Aston, Pa.

Lynn Chadderdon,
former PG County Principal
Lynn Hobday Chadderdon, 64, a former teacher and elementary school principal, died June 27, 2005, in Chicago, from complications following an adult stem-cell transplant to treat myelofibrosis.
Ms. Chadderdon, originally Catherine Lynn Freedenburg, was born in the Hamilton neighborhood of Baltimore, and attended Eastern High School. She graduated from the University of Maryland and later received a master’s degree in education from Towson State University. A lifelong educator, she worked in Prince George’s County elementary schools as a teacher, helping teacher and teacher specialist. She was appointed principal of Robert Frost Elementary in Lanham, Md., in the mid 1980s and then moved to Magnolia Elementary School in Lanham in 1994. She retired for medical reasons in 1998.
While at Robert Frost Elementary, Ms. Chadderdon challenged her students to improve their reading and raise their test scores up to the Maryland state median. They happily watched their principal roller skate around the gym dressed in a tiger suit when they won a bet by achieving this remarkable goal.
Ms. Chadderdon lived in Baltimore, Towson, and for many years in Glenelg, Md. She was a longtime member of the Patuxent Greens Country Club in Laurel. She and her husband John actively retired to Rehoboth Beach, in 2003, where they were members of Shawnee Country Club.
Survivors include her husband of 26 years, John Chadderdon of Rehoboth Beach; three children, Geof Hobday of Arlington, Va., Will Hobday of Silver Spring, Md., and Michael Hobday of Finksburg, Md.; her father, Edward Freedenburg, of Baltimore; her brother, Edward Freedenburg, of Bel Air, Md.; three grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren. A memorial service for Ms. Chadderdon will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 16, at the Interfaith Center in Columbia, Md.
Marie T. Robinson,
Wilmington homemaker
Marie T. Robinson, 84 of Wilmington was surrounded by her family when she passed away peacefully on Monday, July 11, 2005, at her residence.
Mrs. Robinson was a homemaker.
She was predeceased by her husband, William P. Robinson; and two daughters, Marian Rozenko and Theresa Robinson. She is survived by her sons, Patrick and his wife, Judi, of New Castle, Lawrence and his wife, Mary, of Rehoboth Beach, and Joseph and his wife, Laura, with whom she resided for several years; her daughters, Ida Mae Marshall of Newark, Marie Fitzpatrick and her husband, Pete, of Wilmington and Kathleen Maloney and her husband, Matt, of Middletown; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial wwas held July 14, at St. John the Beloved Church in Wilmington. Interment was in Cathedral cemetery , Wilmington.

Preston D. Hitchens,
Millsboro native
Preston D. Hitchens of Millsboro died Saturday, July 9, 2005, in his home. He was 72.
He was born in Millsboro, son of the late Leroy Byrd and Elsie Hitchens Hooper.
Mr. Hitchens was a lumberman for Robert Jennings Pulpwood Co. in Milton, retiring many years ago due to disability.
He is survived by a son, Preston Hitchens Jr. of New Jersey; a daughter, Norma Drummond of New Jersey; two aunts, Louise Adkins and Addie Davis, both of Millsboro; an uncle, Thurman Hitchens of Smyrna; and his companion of 42 years, Eunice Sample of Millsboro, her children, Mary Louise Sample and Sammy Sample, both of Millsboro and Rebecca Jones of Belltown and her two grandchildren.
Services were July 14, at Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro. The Rev. Erwin Williams will officiate.
