Marylee Evans Chaski,
retired Cape teacher
Marylee Evans Chaski, 81, passed away Monday, July 4, 2005 at Beebe Hospital, Lewes, surrounded by her loving children.
Mrs. Chaski was born on Christmas Eve, 1923 to Charles Vance Evans and Catherine Wainwright Evans in Berlin, Md.
Mrs. Chaski graduated from Salisbury State Teachers College. For her senior year, as a member of the “Dizzy Dozen” she was sent to Baltimore, Md. late in World War II to fill a need for teachers. In 1972 she moved to the Lewes area where she owned and operated Love Creek Marina with her former husband. She taught in the Cape Henlopen School District from the mid 1970s until her retirement in the early 1990s. During that time she touched and loved many area second grade students, many of whom fondly remember her still. She was a longtime member of the Woman’s Eastern Shore Society and Groome United Methodist Church, as well as a member of the Red Hat Society and the local chapter of the Business and Professional Women.
She is survived by her daughters, son, daughter-in-law and sons-in-law, Jo Ann and Dr. John Middleton of South Orange, N.J., Eugenia and Joseph Roskos of Wayne, Pa., Rebecca and Thomas Campbell of Safety Harbor Fla., Hilda and H. Doug Adams of St. Louis, Mo., Milton Chaski Jr. and Diana of Lewes, and Dr. Carole Chaski of Georgetown; her grandchildren, John and Lily Middleton, Jr. of New York, Jeffrey and Heather Middleton of Nashville, Tenn., David and Rebecca Middleton of Glen Ridge, N.J., Evan Roskos of Syracuse, N.Y. and Elizabeth Roskos of Wayne, Pa., Katherine and James Kiefer of Largo, Fla., Carole Leigh Campbell of Charleston, S.C., John Chaski and Sarah Chaski of Lewes, as well as her great-grandchildren, Annabelle, Kevin and Campbell Kiefer of Largo, Fla., Jeffrey Evans Middleton Jr. of Nashville and Isobel Grace Middleton of Glen Ridge, N.J., all of whom will miss the many loving ways in which she touched their lives.
Howard K. Shockley,
retired from Cargill Inc.
Howard K. Shockley, 70, of Dagsboro, died Sunday, July 2, 2005, at the Lewes Convalescent Center, Lewes.
He was the son of Ida Adkins Hickman and the late Kendall J. Shockley.
Mr. Shockley retired after 30 years of service with Cargill Inc. of Frankford.
Along with his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Shockley of Millsboro.
He is survived by his mother, Ida Hickman; a brother, Donald L. Shockley of Georgetown; three sisters, Ruth Buchanan of Bradenton, Fla., Janet Ireland of Long Neck and Kathleen Bancroft of Millsboro.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., Saturday, July 9, in the Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Thatcher Street, Frankford, where friends may call after 6 p.m.

Dorothy E. Figgs,
hospice volunteer
Dorothy E. Figgs, 89, of Seaford, died Saturday, July 2, 2005, in the Harrison House, Georgetown.
Mrs. Figgs was a homemaker and volunteered as a bereavement coordinator with Delaware Hospice.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Mrs. Figgs was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where she played the piano and was a charter member of the Miriam Rebecca Odd Fellows Lodge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Figgs, in 1998; a son, James Wilson Figgs; a brother, John Gordy; and two sisters Blanche Walter and Virginia Goody.
She is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert Howard and Sandra Lea Figgs of Palm Harbor, Fla. and John Douglas and Cynthia Figgs of Seaford; a daughter and a son-in-law, Patricia Allen and William Caldwell of Seaford; two sisters, Mary Ann Marine of Lake Placid, Fla. and Jane Lamb of Lewes; a brother, George Gordy of Denton, Md.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were held in Cranston Funeral Home, Seaford, with burial in Odd Fellows cemetery , Seaford.

John Albert Dale,
retired truck driver
John Albert Dale, 75, of Millsboro passed away Friday, July 1, 2005, in Harbor Healthcare, Lewes.
Mr. Dale was born Jan. 16, 1928, son of the late Edward “Gus” and Roda Dale. He lived the majority of his life in Frankford and Dagsboro.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.
He worked in the poultry industry at Showell Farms in Showell, Md., for more than 40 years, and after retiring as a truck driver, he became self-employed.
Mr. Dale accepted the Lord as his personal savior before passing into eternity.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John Upshur Jr., in 2002, four sisters and a brother.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Ann Dale; three daughters and a son-in-law, Cynthia Holland of Washington, D.C.. Wanda and Robert Leonard of Millsboro and Gladys Holland of San Diego; three sons, John Holland of Whaleysville, Md., Terrence Joynes, serving in the U.S. Navy) of Rhode Island, and Bryon Upshur of Millsboro; three stepdaughters and their spouses, Stella and Isaac Williams, Tasha and James Toppin and Monica Shockley; nine grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister-in-law, George and Eleanor Dale of Harrington and Robert Dale of Dagsboro; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Services were held at Calvary Pentecostal Church, Bishopville, Md., with burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Jackson Register Spence,
retired banker
Jackson Register Spence, 64, of Dover, died Sunday, July 2, 2005, at home and surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Spence was born Jan. 15, 1941 in Dover, son of the late William Lloyd and Ann Register Spence.
He served his country proudly during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He began his long career in banking and finance in 1968 with Household Finance as a branch manager in Dover. He most recently joined MBNA, where he was employed for 15 years, retiring in 2002.
He loved spending time with his family and friends, and enjoyed golfing, reading and fishing.
Mr. Spence was a member of Camden-Wyoming Moose Lodge, the Modern Maturity Center and as a young adult, was a member of the Camden-Wyoming Fire Co.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Kay Spence; a son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Cindy Spence of Newark; a daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Tim Hudson of Dover; two sisters, Judy Fowler of Lewes and Sally Rigby of Apollo Beach, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Betty Ann Spence of Dover; three grandchildren, twins Jackson Spence and Justin Spence of Newark and Alex Hudson of Dover; several nieces and nephews; and an extended family of friends.
Services were held in Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming, with burial in Odd Fellows cemetery , Camden.

John Marion McGinnis,
retired from Vlasic Foods
John Marion “Jay” McGinnis, 62, of Fort Myers, Fla. and formerly of Felton and Millsboro, fought the good fight and succumbed to cancer Wednesday, June 15, 2005.
Jay retired from quality management with Campbell Soup Co., Vlasic Foods Division in Millsboro, after 26 years.
He attended Cypress Lake United Methodist Church in Fort Myers. He was director of the Felton Bank, Felton, and a member of the Indian River Power Squadron of Millsboro, serving as commander in 1980. He was a member of the Millsboro Lions Club and its president in 1985 and a member of the Landings Golf Club of Fort Myers. Jay’s love of the water led him to being an avid lifelong boater. He graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy and the University of Delaware, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. He also served as an officer in U.S. Army in Vietnam.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Bowersox McGinnis; two sons, Chris and his wife, Teresa McGinnis and Kevin McGinnis.
A memorial service was held at Grace United Methodist Church, Millsboro.

Ruth Faust Covington,
retired art teacher
Ruth Irene Cone Faust Covington, 84, of New Castle passed away Saturday, July 2, 2005, at home.
She was born in Jacksonville, Fla., to the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Cone Sr. In 1942, she graduated from Georgia Southern University, majoring in music and in 1951, she received a master’s degree in fine arts from Columbia University in New York City. After World War II she moved to Lewes, where she married Howard Faust and taught music. She later moved to Dover, where she taught art and married James B. Covington in 1957, who passed away in 2000. The couple moved to New Castle, where she continued teaching art. Throughout retirement she continued producing art in many media.
She is survived by her children, Richard Faust of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Rebecca C. Hammar of Schererville, Ind. and James N. Covington of New Castle; her brother, Robert L. Cone Jr. of North Augusta, S.C.; and two grandchildren.
Harry S. Warrington,
Milton farmer
Harry S. Warrington, 91, of Milton, died Friday, July 1, 2005, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Warrington was born in Milton, the son of the late John W. and Stella Johnson Warrington.
He was a farmer, and enjoyed gardening.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Reynolds Warrington.
He is survived by two sons, William D. Warrington and Samuel D. Warrington, both of Milton; a granddaughter, Michele Webb; and a great-grandson, Zachary Webb.
Services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 5, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call one hour earlier. Burial will be in Odd Fellows cemetery , Milton.
Mary Emma Breasure,
farm bus driver
Mary Emma Breasure, 85, of Frankford, died Saturday, July 2, 2005, at Atlantic General Hospital, Berlin, Md.
Mrs. Breasure was a retired family farm bus driver and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold L. Esham and her second husband, Clinton H. Breasure; two stepdaughters, Patricia Helms and Janet Davidson.
She is survived by two sons, Frank Esham of Lewes and Babe Esham of Whaleyville, Md.; four stepsons, Jay Breasure of Delmar, Wayne Breasure of Ocean View, Jerry Breasure of Selbyville and Jeffrey Breasure of Felton; 19 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, at the Bethany Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, West Avenue, Ocean View, where friends may call after 10 a.m.

William R. “Bill” Banks,
construction foreman
William R. “Bill” Banks, 52, of Frankford, died Friday, July 1, 2005, at home.
Mr. Banks was born in Laurel, son of the late Preston Lee and Louise Collins Banks.
He was a construction foreman for Bunting and Murray Construction of Selbyville. He was also a life member of the Frankford Fire Company, where he served as past chief and chief engineer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George, and a sister, Barbara.
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Peggy Banks; two daughters, Billie Jo Banks and Annie Moore and her husband Clint; three brothers, Blaine Banks and Jerry Banks of Frankford and Linwood Banks of Dagsboro; seven sisters, Pat Smallwood, Cindy Rogers and Tammy Hudson, all of Millsboro, Doris Franklin, Linda Griffin and Jane Workman; his stepfather, Kendall Melson, all of Frankford; two grandsons, Matthew Gasque and Chandler Moore; and his faithful companion, Zoe.
A fireman’s funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 6, at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Thatcher Street, Frankford, where friends and family may call after noon. Pastor Chuck Reynolds will officiate. Burial will be in Dagsboro Redmens Memorial cemetery , Dagsboro.

Josephine Antonelli,
Lewes homemaker
Josephine Antonelli, 75, of Lewes, and formerly of Devon, Pa., died peacefully Wednesday, July 29, 2005, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, after a long illness.
Josephine was born Oct. 18, 1929 in Bryn Mawr, Pa., the daughter of Giuseppe DePamphillis and Maria Rossi DePamphillis. She graduated from Radnor High School in 1947.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Rocco Antonelli Sr., and her brother, Dominic DePamphillis.
She is survived by a daughter, Doretta Lewis and her husband J. Michael Lewis of Rehoboth Beach; her son, Rocco Antonelli Jr. and his fiancée, Melodie Clifton of Wilmington; five grandchildren, Keith Lewis and his wife, Sarah, Timothy Lewis, Alena Antonelli and Lee, Rebecca and Julia Antonelli; a sister, Elizabeth DiPaolantonio of Owings Mills, Md.; her brothers, Louis DePamphillis of Philadelphia, Pa. and Vincent DePamphillis of West Chester, Pa.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 5, at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Strafford, Pa. The viewing at the church will be between 9 and 10 a.m., and interment will follow at Valley Forge Memorial Gardens.
