Frank M. Gabriel, 77, of Millsboro and formerly of Vincentown, N.J., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, in his home..
Mr. Gabriel was born in Philadelphia, son of the late Walter and Anna (Walsh) Gabriel.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a mechanic for the U.S. Army.
He was a retired maintenance and diesel mechanic.
Mr. Gabriel was a member of the American Legion Post 28 of Oak Orchard and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Mason-Dixon Post 7234 of Quillens Point in Ocean View.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; a son, Frank of Mays Landing, N.J.; two daughters, Denise Mascio of Mays Landing and Susan Vico of Chestertown, Md.; two sisters, Jean Gibson and June Kerstetter, both of Lansdowne, Pa.; three grandsons, Frank Gabriel, Todd Gabriel and Vincent Mascio; four granddaughters, Danielle Mascio, Melissa Gabriel, Tammy Gabriel and Nicole Vico; and a great-grandson, Frank Gabriel.
Services were held in the Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road, Long Neck, with memorial services held in the Chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery
South, near Millsboro.

Jama A. Smith, 32, of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Pittsburgh, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 32.
Mr. Smith was loved by his family and is sadly missed.
He is survived by his mother, Karen Redman of Rochester, N.Y; his father, Charles Reed of Pittsburgh; a brother, Terrence Smith of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Jamaica Brown and Tonisha Reed, both of Pittsburgh; and his life partner, Dwight Horsey of Rehoboth Beach.
Burial was in Sunnyside Road cemetery , Smyrna.

Emily Louise (Dailey) Vannicola, 88, of Greenwood passed away Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, in Saint James Mercy Hospital, Hornell, N.Y.
Mrs. Vannicola was born Oct. 3, 1917, in Sussex County, Northwest Fork Hundred, near Greenwood, daughter of the late James Thomas Dailey and Luise Sander.
She married Jacob Vannicola on Jan. 14, 1934, in Elkton, Md., and they resided in Stanton until relocating to their Blanchard Road, Greenwood farm in 1953, which had been owned by her late German grandfather, John Wilham Sander and his wife Emilie (Flugel) Sander.
Mrs. Vannicola was a loving and supporting mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Vannicola in 1982; a brother, James Thomas Patrick Dailey; and a sister, Anna Marie Dailey.
She is survived by five children and their spouses, Jean Louise Vannicola of Milford, Harry Phillip Sr. and Mary Lou Vannicola of Hornell, with whom she had stayed for a year before her passing, John William and Betty Lee Vannicola of Bridgeville, with whom she had lived for the previous 21/2 years before moving to Hornell, Dorothy Ann and Lloyd Baker of Pot Nets and James Jacob Vannicola of Chicago; and 17 grandchildren and their spouses, John J. Sr. and Joyce Zoch of Seaford, Kathleen L. and Michael Parks of Georgia, Janine R. Zoch of Salisbury, Md., Sonya D. Russell of Milford, Tanya D. and Mark Sturgeon of Milford, Suzanne L. and John W. Wheatley of Bridgeville, Harry P. Jr. and Lois Vannicola of Greenwood, William J. and Gwen Vannicola of Laurel, Robert A. and Kelly Vannicola of Houston, Texas, Karen Ann and Ray Hibl of Hibu, Utah, Laura L. and Christian T. Wilson of Milford, Jennifer R. and David S. Truitt of Laurel, Melissa L. and James R. Paconni of Greenwood, Michael A. Services will be private in the Parsell Funeral Home, Hardesty Chapel, Bridgeville.
Burial will be private in the Bridgeville cemetery.
LeRoy B. West,
farmer
LeRoy B. West, 71, of Millsboro died Friday, Nov. 25, 2005, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 71.
Mr. West was born in Laurel, son of the late Benjamin and Ruth Parsons West.
He was a livestock and grain farmer for more than 35 years and was also a skilled homebuilder, in the past working for other companies and most recently for himself. He was a handy craftsman and was known to be able to build or fix almost anything.
He enjoyed sports and played football and softball in his younger years. He continued his love for softball for many years as he played in the church adult leagues for the Trinity United Methodist Church team. Hunting and fishing were favorite hobbies of his and he was very interested in genealogy and tracing his family’s roots.
Mr. West was a member of Charity Lodge 27, Independent Order of Odd Fellows in Laurel.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ellen M. West; a son, Chris West of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Kevin West of Laurel, Dustin West of Naples, Fla., Chadwick West and his wife, Christina of New York, N.Y. and Jennifer Dwyer of Naples; two great-grandchildren, Savannah West and Katelynn Hamilton: a sister and a brother-in-law, Mary Ellen and David “Sonny” Evans of Laurel; an uncle, Raymond Parsons of Laurel; and several nieces, nephews and many cousins.
An Odd Fellows service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Short Funeral Home, 700 West St., Laurel, where friends may call two hours earlier. Funeral services will follow. Burial will be in Odd Fellows cemetery , Laurel.
Robert A. King,
retied technician
Robert A. King, 62 of Hockessin, and formerly of New Castle, passed away Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005, at home.
Mr. King had been employed with the DuPont Co. as a bio med technician for 37 years at the Experimental Station. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. During his leisure time, Mr. King enjoyed winemaking, sailing on his catamaran, golf and travel.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years Linda Hazel King; their son, Christopher; a brother, Charles H. King and his wife, Theresa, of Smyrna; and a sister, Beverly Clarke of Lewes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert E. King and Eleanor L. Williams King.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 11 a.m., at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 2503 Centerville Rd., Wilmington. Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov. 29, from 7-9 p.m., at the Gebhart Funeral Home, 531 Delaware St. New Castle. Burial will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle.

Raymond L. Banks Jr.,

Raymond L. Banks Jr., 87, of Dagsboro, died peacefully at his home Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005.
He was born in Dagsboro, the son of the late Raymond L. Banks Sr. and Emmam Tyre Banks. He was a retired farmer and racehorse owner and member of the U.S. Trotting Association.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ezekiel E. Banks, in 1974.
He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Banks; three sons, Raymond Banks III of Georgetown and David and Russell Banks, both of Dagsboro; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Carol Eiserman and Darlene Henry, both of Virginia; three stepgrandchildren; four sisters, Verdie West, Margaret West, Pearl Robinson and Linda Showell; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at noon, Friday, Dec. 2, at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Thatcher Street, Frankford, where friends may call after 11 a.m. and from 7 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 1. Interment will be in St. George’s cemetery , Clarksville.

Robert G. Stewart,

Robert G. Stewart, 74, died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2005, at the Washington Hospice after hospital treatment for respiratory illness.
He was the senior curator emeritus at the National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution after serving as curator of paintings and sculpture 1964-1994.
He was curator for the Jefferson Barracks Historical Park in St. Louis, 1958-1961; director of properties for the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Washington, 1961-1964; visiting lecturer at The George Washington University, 1967-1970; author: Nucleus for a National Collection, 1965; A Nineteenth-Century Gallery of Distinguished Americans, 1969; Henry Benbridge (1743-1812): American Portrait Painter, 1971; Robert Edge Pine, A British Artist in America 1784-1788, 1979; cons. The Papers of George Washington, 1990-1998; Director Landmarks of St. Louis, 1959-1961 and was a member of The Lewes Historical Society, Walpole Society, Association of Historians of American Art, the Four Seasons Garden Club and Zeta Psi. He served in the U. S. Army, 1954-1956.
Mr. Stewart resided in Washington, D.C. and Lewes. He was the son of Kenneth Elsworth Stewart and Ruth (Chambers) S. Stewart born in Baltimore, Md.
He is survived by cousins George E. Chambers Jr., George E. Chambers III, Robert C. Chambers, Margaret C. Heer, Robert Gary Stewart, Richard C. Barnard, Susanne Barnard, Michael C. Heer, godson; David B. Gay, friend; and Kurt W. Wubbena, friend.
Services for Mr. Stewart will be conducted at the Pumphrey Funeral Home, 7557 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda, Md. at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3.
A second service will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Second and Market streets, Lewes, at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4.
He will be interned at St. Peter’s cemetery , Pilottown Road, Lewes, Delaware.

Laura K. Smith,

Laura K. Smith, 82, of Millsboro, died Sunday, Nov, 20, 2005, at Green Valley Terrace Nursing Home in Millsboro.
Ms. Smith was born March 13, 1923 in Auburn, N.Y., the daughter of the late William and Lucy Knapp Smith.
Ms. Smith graduated from Auburn City Hospital in 1944 as a registered nurse where she eventually became supervisor of the Pediatric Department. In the 1960s, she received a bachelor’s degree in teaching from Columbia University, New York City, and then became chairperson of Nursing Services for the Auburn City School System.
While living in New York, she was a member of the Zonta Club, a professional woman’s organization. Ms. Smith retired in 1984 and moved to Lewes where she joined Conley’s Chapel Methodist Church and was a very active member of its women’s association.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Smith; and her sister Elizabeth Short.
She is survived by her niece, Katherine Rotach and her husband, John, of Milton; a nephew, Kenneth Smith and his wife Nora of Sarasota, Fla.; a nephew Kerry Smith and his wife Debbie of Lewes; six grandnieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Smith of Sarasota, Fla.
A Memorial Service will be held at Conley’s Chapel Methodist Church, Conley’s Chapel Road, near Angola, Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, 11 a.m.; Pastor Randy Booth will be officiating. Interment will be at a later date in New York.
Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

Philip F. Arena,

Philip F. Arena, 73, of Lewes, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2005, at his residence.
Mr. Arena was born in Rochester, N.Y., son of the late Frank D. and Jennie D’Angelo Arena. He was a graduate of Jeneseo State College, New York with a high school teaching degree. He had served as a high school soccer coach, and as the school board president for many years in the Monroe County, N.Y. school district.
He had owned and operated several successful auto dealerships in New York state. He retired to the Lewes area in 1989 and owned and operated Market Place Signs and Copies. Mr. Arena served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Arena is survived by one daughter, Amy Arena of Schenectady, N.Y; three sons, Christopher P. Arena of North Conway, N.Y., David A. Arena of Coatesville, Pa., and Paul A. Arena of Lewes, a brother, Carl Arena of Honeoye Falls, N.Y.; and a granddaughter, Reilly Arena.
He was predeceased by his wife, Suzonne Catherine Arena, in Oct. 2004.

George P. Vinyard Sr.,

George P. Vinyard, 90, of Millsboro, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2005, in his home.
Mr. Vinyard was born Feb. 13, 1915, in Milford, son of the late Ida and Harry E. Vinyard Sr.
He resided in Baltimore for many years, before moving to Millsboro in 1989. He was employed as a casket salesman for York Casket Co. in Baltimore for 42 years, retiring in 1979.
He was a former captain of the Milford High School basketball and football teams and had played semi-pro ball in each. He enjoyed all sports, especially golf, fishing and was an avid Baltimore Colts fan.
Mr. Vinyard was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Millsboro, a life member of the American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro, a member of the Free & Accepted Masons in Baltimore, a member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon in Pennsylvania and a member of the St. George Society in Baltimore.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Vinyard; and a brother, Harry E. Vinyard Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen Holland Vinyard; three sons, George P. Vinyard Jr. of Ocean Pines, Md., Gregory P. Vinyard Sr. of Bel Air, Md., and Curtis H. Vinyard of Towson, Md.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Millsboro. Burial was in the Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery , Millsboro.

Everett W. Robinson Jr.
retired foreman
Everett Wrighter Robinson Jr., 85, formerly of Kiamensi Gardens, passed away Monday, Nov. 21, 2005.
He and his beloved, the former Barbara E. Niblett, were married nearly 61 years until her death in 2003; they enjoyed camping in Lancaster, Florida, Williamsburg, and at the beach. Everett loved his cars, which were always waxed and buffed and sported an E.W.R. vanity tag. He also coached or assisted with his son’s baseball teams and helped move a giant football scoreboard from the University of Delaware and install it at Dickinson High School.
While attending Conrad High School Everett rose at 4 a.m. daily to help his father deliver milk for Fraim’s Dairy before school. A member of Ironworkers Local 451 union, he was a foreman for Savery and Cooke, Inc. and Erectors, Inc., where he worked for 40 years. He built staircases in many Delaware schools, as well as the Grand Opera House and Del Tech Stanton, and installed the brass doors at Longwood Gardens.
After retirement, he chatted up homeowners as a painter for his son’s business, E. Robinson Painting, Inc. Everett was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and a former member of Christ United Methodist Church.
The son of Everett W. Sr. and Emaline Hackendom Robinson, Everett is survived by his twin brother, John B. and his wife Beverly, and children, Shirley and Howard Leverage of Newark, Judith and Arthur Frampton of Rehoboth, and Everett W., Ill and Susan Robinson of Hockessin. He will be missed, too, by grandchildren Kimberly Leverage and Michael Donaldson, Robert Leverage and Rachel Danna, Richard Leverage, Dawn Frampton and Frank Townsend, Arthur Jr. and Jeri Frampton:, Mark and Cheryl Kelley Frampton, Matthew and Michelle Robinson, and Kathleen Robinson; Collin Robinson died in 1998. Everett also leaves great-grandchildren Kelly and Michael Donaldson, Frank and Rachel Townsend, Megan, Robert, Lauren, and Kylee Leverage, and Jonathan and Jarod Kelley.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 10:30 a.m. at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek where friends may call after 9 a.m. Interment will be in All Saints’ cemetery.
