Carl James O’Day,
retired farmer
Carl James O’Day, 84, of Bridgeville, died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at home.
Mr. O’Day was born in Bridgeville, son of the late James E. and Louise O’Day. He was a farmer and owned and operated O’Day’s Fruit stand on Route 18 since 1949, up until a few years ago. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and generous ways to all who knew him. He was a member of Cokesbury Church, Georgetown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva O’Day; two brothers, George E. O’Day, and John W. O’Day; five sisters, Daisy M. O’Day, Lovey O’Day Smith, Laura M. O’Day, Virgie L. Belts, Ida H. Cohee; and one stepson, Brice Smart Sr.
He is survived by Mark Hunsberger, whom he loved as a son; four step-grandchildren; several great-step grandchildren; 10 nephews; and five nieces.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 22, at Cokesbury cemetery
near Georgetown. Arrangements by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Bridgeville.

Georgene L. Bliss,
worked for Sleep Inn Suites
Georgene L. Bliss, 61, of rural Millsboro and formerly of Phoenixville, Pa., died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at home.
Mrs. Bliss was born in Pottstown, Pa., the daughter of the late Wilfred Rubendall and Ruby Maute Rubendall.
She worked as a desk clerk for Sleep Inn Suites of Lewes.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Bonnie.
She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Ruby and Frederick Nixon; her husband William D. Bliss; a daughter, Winnie Wallace; three sons, Frederick Bliss and Earl and Frank Wallace; a brother, Brian Rubendall; and five grandchildren.
Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 21, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services. Burial will be private.

George Robert “Bobby” Quillen,
longtime Harrington representative
Rep. George Robert “Bobby” Quillen, 75, of Harrington, died peacefully Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at home.
Rep. Quillen, R-Harrington, was born in Ocean View, son of the late Robert H. and Cora M. Quillen. He served his country proudly in the Korean War from 1950-1952 in the U.S. Army Corps as a company clerk, and was stationed in Germany.
Rep. Quillen ended his career July 1 after serving more than 28 years as a Delaware representative. He served three terms from 1966-72, then retired. He returned to Legislative Hall in 1982 after then-Gov. Pete duPont asked him to run again. He mentored younger lawmakers and knew the intricacies of the legislative process, and was considered an expert in House rules and procedures.
He earned a reputation for his good humor, quick wit, warm charm and his habit of not wearing socks.
As a state representative, Rep. Quillen was a leader in environmental and agricultural issues. He chaired the House Natural Resource Committee and Environmental Management Committee and was vice chairman of the Land Use and Infrastructure Committee. In his 28 years as Delaware’s representative, Rep. Quillen was instrumental in passing numerous bills and legislative activities.
He was fond of his beloved Harrington and served his community proudly as a strong supporter of its many organizations and those in neighboring communities.
Rep. Quillen worshipped for more than 50 years at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church of Harrington. He was a member of American Legion Post 7 of Harrington and served at various times as president, post commander and service officer. He was an ardent supporter of the Delaware State Fair, and has an arena named for him at the Fairgrounds. He belonged to the Harrington Historical Society and the Friends of the Harrington Library and was also a Civil War buff, belonging to the Civil War Preservation Trust and the Delaware Civil War Roundtable. He was an honorary member of the Harrington and Houston Volunteer Fire Co. and a member of the Eastern Shore Fox Hunters.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
He is survived by a sister, Grace Wanda Quillen of Harrington; two brothers, Ivan Francis Quillen of Harrington and Frank Quillen of Felton; a good friend who was like a son, Acie Sanders of Rehoboth Beach; and seven nieces and nephews, Inga Emerson, Renee Knox, Thea Quillen, Chad Emerson, Theo Knox, August Knox and Haley Knox.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 21 in the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Highway, Harrington, with services at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 22, in St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Raughley Hill Road, Harrington. Burial will be private.

Leroy H. “Roy” Dailey Sr.,
CHEER volunteer
Leroy H. “Roy” Dailey Sr., 79, of Georgetown and formerly of Pasadena, Md., died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at home.
Mr. Dailey was born in Baltimore, the son of Katherine Gill Dailey of Glen Burnie, Md. and the late Harry Leroy Dailey.
He worked as a manager and driver for Arrid Van Lines Inc. in Baltimore for more than 40 years.
He was active in the Meals on Wheels program at the CHEER Center in Georgetown.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a stepson, Jack L. “Butch” Herrmann, in 1993.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian M. Sizemore Dailey; two sons, Leroy H. Jr. of Haines City, Fla. and Donald of Georgetown; three daughters, Carolyn Duval of Millsboro, Christine Potts of Seaford and Arlene Fowler of Millsboro; his mother, Katherine Gill Dailey of Glen Burnie; two brothers, Donald Dailey and Clifford Daily, both of Pasadena; a sister, Beverly Watson of Pasadena; 24 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter,
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, in Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington Street, Millsboro, where friends may also call one hour earlier. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Millsboro.
Ruth K. (Jones) Rogers,
owned Lewes vacation home
Ruth K. (Jones) Rogers, 82, of Hockessin, died peacefully Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at home.
Born in Wilmington on Dec. 2, 1921, she was the daughter of the late J. Howard and Jennie Ashby Jones. She was a 1940 graduate of P.S. duPont High School. Mrs. Rogers enjoyed spending time withher family, especially at her Lewes vacation home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry W. Rogers in 1988; and by a sister, Helen Spencer, in 1983.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Rogers of Hockessin; her son, Barry Rogers and his wife Nancy of Pike Creek; her granddaughter, Lyndsay Rogers of Newark; her sister, Hazel Carpenter of Chadds Ford, Pa.; two sisters-in-law, Marguerite Hill of Lewes and Doris Taylor of Sumter, S.C.; and a brother-in-law, Edward W. Rogers of Georgetown.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Gracelawn Memorial Park, DuPont Highway, New Castle.

Vietnam veteran
Ronald Douglas Weik, 54 ,of Rehoboth Beach, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004 at Lewes Convalescent Center in Lewes, after a short illness.
Mr. Weik grew up in Wilmington, and was a graduate of McKean High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his mother, Mildred V. Bromwell of Rehoboth Beach; a brother John Bromwell of Newark; a sister, Patricia Messerknecht and her husband Fred of Reading, Pa. and Lewes; his companion, Donna Bettinger; four nieces; and six nephews.
Services will be private.

Charles E. “Cholly” Mayo,

Charles E. “Cholly” Mayo, 87, of Dagsboro and formerly of Media, Pa., died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mr. Mayo was born June 21, 1917 in Ridley Park, Pa. to the late George and Harriet Soloman Mayo. He worked for many years as a self-employed contractor, retiring in 1980.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy E. Frank Mayo; a son, Larry D. Mayo and his wife Anna of Lewes; two sisters, Harriet Parsons of Sharon Hill, Pa. and Gertrude Eno of Chadds Ford, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington Street, Millsboro, where friends may call one hour before the service.
Burial will be private.

Helen D. Florczyk,
retired from Continental Can
Helen D. Florczyk, 86, of Wilmington, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004 at her sister’s home in New Castle.
Ms. Florczyk retired in 1972 from the Continental Can Co., after many years of service. After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling to Atlantic City, N.J.
She is survived by a brother, Edward Florczyk of Wilmington; a sister, Irene Mansfield of New Castle; two nephews, William A. Reed Jr. of Rehoboth Beach and Michael Mansfield of New Castle; a niece, Kathy Florczyk of Wilmington; and many, many friends.
A committal service was held at All Saints cemetery , Wilmington.

Johannes Kaup,
retired author
Johannes Kaup, 93, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004, at Atlantic General Hospital, Berlin, Md.
Born in Bosnia, he was the son of the late Hans and Liisa Kaup.
Mr. Kaup had been an author and writer. He had many books published, writing fiction, children’s books and on politics. He had been the editor for the Estonia paper in New York. He had also worked with his wife at the Greenwood Bookshop in Wilmington. He had served in the Estonia Home Guard, working in radio communications.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nina Gertrude Kaup, in 1995.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Eneken and Fredric Frischkorn of Ocean Pines; two grandchildren, Michael Ash of Rehoboth Beach and Katherine Hearne of Wilmington; and nine great-grandchildren.
Cremation followed his death. Private interment will be held at a later date.

A memorial service for Lydia Esposito, who passed away peacefully at her residence Saturday, Aug. 14, will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 25, at Lewes Presbyterian Church, 133 Kings Hwy, Lewes. Robert F. Moyer Sr.,
retired from CMS
Robert F. Moyer Sr., 81, of Milton, passed away Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, peacefully surrounded by his family at his residence after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Mr. Moyer retired from the University of Delaware College of Marine Studies in 1988. His hobbies included boat building, wood carving, painting, cabinetry and collecting antique model cars, trains and farm tractors.
Born Dec. 3, 1922 in Oley, Pa., Robert was the son of the late John William Moyer and Isabella A. Moyer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Donald and Richard Moyer.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Susan E. Moyer; his sister, Isabel Pleacher; seven children and their families, daughter Linda and Robert Brown and children, Larry, Lisa and Robbie; daughter Rosemary and Gary Corron and daughter Karen and her daughter Sarah; daughter Beverly and Eddie Poff and children Samuel, Charles and Susan Hall; daughter Marlene and Thomas Morris; son Michael Jones and grandson Michael Jones Jr.; son William and Laura Moyer and their son Jacob; and son Robert Jr. and Paula Moyer and their children Forrest and Murphy.
