Daniel W. Harvey,
carpenter, painter
Daniel W. “Dan the Man” Harvey, 56, of Dover, died suddenly Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007.
Daniel was born July 14, 1951, in Dover, son of Ethel L. Harvey and the late John A. Harvey Sr.
He was a carpenter/painter perfectionist who loved to restore historical homes.
He also loved the beach, fishing, taking photographs and working in his yard.
Danny was preceded in death by his father and best friend, John A. Harvey Sr.; and a brother, William “Bill” Harvey.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon M. Harvey of Dover, whom he lovingly referred to as “Fuzzball”; his mother, Ethel L. Harvey of Dover; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ethel “Buzzy” and Donald Moore of Dover and Bonnie and Walter Kulhanek of Florida; two brothers, John A. Harvey Jr. and his companion Judy Harloff of Dover and Francis Harvey and his wife Ruth of Magnolia; a daughter, Michelle England, her husband, George, and their three children, George, Joshua and Jayson, all of Lewes; two stepsons, William R. Moore of Magnolia and Brandon J. Moore and his fiancée, Kristeena M. Burger, both of Dover; two aunts, Helen Daniels and Irene Harvey, both of Dover; several nieces and nephews; and a very good friend, Fred Harrison.
Services were held at Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming, with burial private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Calvary Community Center Fund at Calvary Assembly of God Church, 1141 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, DE 19901.

Lyle M. Short,
Diamond State retiree
Lyle M. Short, age 85, of Long Neck, and formerly of Georgetown and Dover, died peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, at Brandywine Assisted Living in Rehoboth Beach.
Mrs. Short was a retired telephone operator with the Diamond State Telephone Co. and a dedicated housewife and mother. She was an active member of Long Neck United Methodist church as long as her health permitted and enjoyed handicrafts and playing golf.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold B. Short in 1999.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Harold Jr. and his wife, Pat of Sarasota, Fla. and Donald and his wife, Dianne of Millsboro; four grandchildren, David, Darren, Juli and Michael; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 6, at the Long Neck chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road and Route 24, Millsboro, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Interment will be private for family only.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions by made to Delaware Hospice, Southern Division, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Joan P. Abrams,
retired bookkeeper
Joan P. Abrams, 58, of Millsboro, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford.
She was born in Jamaica, New York, daughter of the late William and Anna Develin Abrams.
She was a retired bookkeeper.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William A. Abrams Jr.
Joan is survived by her loving husband, Joseph P. Collis; a brother, Anthony Abrams; and a sister, Mary Ann Campbell.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday evening, Nov. 2. Burial will be private.

Rodney Allan Nelson,
avid fisherman
Rodney Allan Nelson, 80, of Lewes passed away Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, at his residence. He was 80.
Born in Wilmington, he was employed in the painting industry in the Lewes area for many years.
Mr. Nelson was a former post commander of the American Legion Post 17, Lewes, and he was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen D. Menchaca and her husband Tom of Pleasanton, Texas; a granddaughter, Dana Douglas, also of Pleasanton; his loving companion of 32 years, Greta McCrocklin of Lewes; her children, Andrew and Patti McCrocklin; and her grandchildren, Erin Graza and Rachel McCrocklin, all of Springfield, Va.
All services are private.
Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Enterprises, Lewes.

Kay M. Laurenzi,
Pennsylvania native
Kay M. Laurenzi, 79, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, surrounded by her family.
Born in Marcus Hook, Pa., Mrs. Laurenzi loved going to the Gull House in Rehoboth.
She was predeceased by her husband, Francis A. Laurenzi, by her son, Michael, and by her daughter, Paula. Mrs. Laurenzi is survived by her daughters, Toni Laurenzi of Elsmere and Denise Laurenzi, her caretaker with whom she lived; her sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Cathy of Wilmington, Terry and Kim of Millsboro, and Francis Jr. and Becky of Odessa; 10 grandchildren, Michelle, Gary Jr., Paul, Stacey, Holly, Brian, Michael, Tracey, Nicky and Emily; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to visitation, 6-8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 2, at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown roads, Wilmington. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Cathedral cemetery, Wilmington.

Helene Obertyschew,
retired seamstress
Helene Obertyschew, 83, of Wilmington, passed away on Oct. 29, 2007.
Mrs. Obertyschew was born in Russia. After World War II, she lived in Germany before immigrating to the United States in 1953. Helene worked as a seamstress for many years in the Wilmington area, retiring in 1987. She loved her family and will be dearly missed by all. She was a homemaker and enjoyed working in her garden. She was also very active in St. Michael’s Orthodox Church in Wilmington for over 50 years, volunteering her time to many church activities.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Vasily Obertyschew; her children, Olga Maloney and her husband John of Newark, and Alexander Piragow of Lewes; her grandchildren, Diane and her husband Irenee, David and his wife Dawn, Janice and Adam, all of Delaware. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 2, in the McCrery Memorial Chapel, 3710 Kirkwood Highway at Duncan Road, where family and friends may call at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery, Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Michaels Orthodox Church, 2300 W. Huntington Drive, Wilmington, DE 19808.

Bertram Edward Abrahart,
lobster fisherman
Bertram Edward Abrahart, 67, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at Woodside Hospice in St. Petersburg, Fla.
He was born in London, England, and immigrated to America in 1966 with his wife Peggy and three small daughters, settling in Wilmington, but the ocean called him to Lewes where he became a lobster fisherman with friends Bill Rice and Bob Dorman.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Peggy Abrahart; daughters, Debra Ten Eyck and her husband Gregg, and Jacquline Abrahart; four grandchildren, Rick Cooper, Shannon Cooper, Kyle TenEyck and Lynsey Abrahart; and a sister, Pat Henrick and her husband John.
A daughter, Susanne Abrahart, was killed by a drunk driver at age 14 in 1976.
A memorial service will be held at the Lewes-Rehoboth Moose Lodge 646 at a later date.

George William Vest,
retired teacher
George William Vest, 78, of Rehoboth Beach, was born May 7, 1929, to Marion and Fred Vest in Austin, Minn. He died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
George is survived by Jeane Meade Vest, his wife of more than 41 years; his brother, James Weston Vest; his brother-in-law, John Meade and his wife Jenny; a sister-in-law, Patsy Meade; his nieces, Linda Vest Klein, Lisbeth Vest Armstrong, Martha Robb Vest and Barbara Meade Carney; a nephew, Jimmy Meade; and numerous grandnephews and grandnieces.
George graduated from Austin High School and earned a bachelor of arts from Carleton College, Northfield, Minn., before he entered the U.S. Navy in 1951.
He attained the rank of lieutenant junior grade. He then served in the U.S. Naval Reserve until 1966.
George then taught junior high and high school math in Illinois and Massachusetts.
He was active in the Kiwanis and in his church choir.
George was an avid golfer and animal lover who had a joke and a smile for every occasion.
He was a gentle and loving man whose life will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 2, at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Ave., Rehoboth Beach. The Rev. Christopher Moore will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to All Saints’ Episcopal Church.
Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes.

Grace R. Bush,
Sussex homemaker
Grace R. Bush, 82, of Lewes, passed away Thursday Nov. 1, 2007, with her loving family at her bedside, at the Milford Center in Milford.
She was born on April 26, 1925, in Millsboro, daughter of the late John W. Rogers and Julia Sockriter Rogers. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas W. Bush in October 2005, and her daughter, Julia Ann Pavalis in 1978.
Survivors include a daughter, Patsy McNatt of Smyrna; two sons, Thomas D. Bush of Geogetown and Virgil Bush of Spanoway, Wash.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services wil be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. Burial will be at Henlopen Memorial Park, near Milton.
Memorials can be made to the Gull House, 38149 Terrace Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
