MICHAEL ANTHONY MESSICK
Michael Anthony Messick, age 17, of 1305 Drake Ave., Panama City, Fla., died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, as the result of a drowning accident. He was a lifelong resident of Panama City and was a member of St. Andrew Assembly of God Church. Michael was in the ninth grade at Bay High School and would have been in the 10th grade next year. He loved basketball, football, and was on the Boys Club Basketball League. Michael was an avid sports fan; the Chicago Bulls and Jeff Gordon were his favorites. His church and basketball were the two things that Michael loved the most. His favorite foods were pizza, lasagna, macaroni and cheese and chocolate chip cookies. Michael is survived by his parents, Gary and Vickie Messick of Panama City; paternal Grandparents, Amos "A.E." and Geri Messick of Panama City; maternal grandparents, Walter and Cassie Gibson of Panama City; mother, Sandra Kathleen Gibson; brothers, Gary L. Messick of Panama City and Paul E. Gibson of Houston, Texas; uncle and aunt, Mark and Sandra Messick of Montgomery, Ala.; aunts, Sherri Gibson, Debbie Gibson, Wanda Gibson, and Robin Gibson; uncles, Mike Gibson and Jimmy Gibson; and numerous cousins. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 2, at St. Andrew Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Jeff Scalf and the Rev. Estany Ruiz officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Neil Messick, Ryan Messick, Kelly Johnson, Robert Walters, Doug Bailey, and Oscar Burleson. Honorary pallbearers will include members of his Sunday School Class at St. Andrew Assembly of God. The family will receive friends at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home today, June 1, from 6 to 8 p.m.

LUCY MARY VIRGA
Lucy Mary Virga, 79, of 222 Scooter Drive, Panama City Beach, Fla., died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, in Bay Medical Center after an extended illness. Born Aug. 10, 1920, in San Giusseppe, Italy. Her family moved to the United States when she was a child, and made their home in Birmingham, Ala., where she lived for most of her life. She is survived by her nephew and niece, Gerard and Denise Virga of Panama City Beach. Mass and funeral services will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Birmingham. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.

JOHN RICHARD ADAMS
John Richard Adams, of Dothan, Ala. died May 1, 2000, in UBA Hospital. John was in the 327th Infantry lst Brigade 101st Airborne Division until his retirement. He received the Army commendation for heroism plus a purple heart. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Miller; his father, E.C. Adams; his sisters: Dorothy Henderson, Myra Black, Louise Day and Betty Horten. Survivors include his sister, Sarah Convington and Mary Anne Hooten; two brothers, E.C. Adams and Buddy Adams; numerous nieces and nephews: the Henderson's, Black's, Day's and Convington's. Memorial services for family and friends will be held Sunday, June 4, at First Baptist Church of Sunny Hills, 1886 Sunny Hills with Dr. James Eden, officiating.

Funeral services for Mr. Phillip David Bass, age 72, of 2836 Avon Road, Panama City, Fla.,who died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, will be held at 3 p.m. today, June 2, 2000, at the North Sherman Community Church with the Rev. Margaret Whitehead and Rev. Johnny Cromer officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

JACOB CHAPMAN BELIN
Mr. Jacob Chapman Belin, 1601 Garrison Ave., Port St. Joe, Fla., passed away May 31, 2000. Mr. Belin, 85, was born on Oct. 28, 1914, in DeFuniak Springs, Fla., and moved with his family to Port St. Joe in 1924. He worked for the United States Government while attending George Washington University. Mr. Belin began his professional career with St. Joe Paper Company in 1938. During his lengthy and distinguished business career, Mr. Belin served as Chairman of the Nemours Foundation; Trustee of the Alfred I. duPont Testamentary Trust; Director of the Alfred I. duPont Foundation; and Chairman, Director, President, and Chief Executive Officer of the St. Joe Company. He was also a Director of Florida East Coast Industries and an officer and director of all subsidiaries of the former St. Joe Paper Company. A Charter member of Long Avenue Baptist Church, Mr. Belin was also a founding Director of the James Madison Institute, and during the 1950's, served three terms as Mayor of Port St. Joe. Additionally, Mr. Belin served his community and the State of Florida on numerous distinguished voluntary and honorary committees, including Florida's Council of 100. Mr. Belin is survived by his wife of 59 years, Myrle F. Belin; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jacob Chapman Belin Jr. and Betty Phillips Belin of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., and Stephen Andrew Belin and Lynn Knox Belin of Valrico, Fla.; three grandsons, Phillip Andre Belin, Stephen Andrew Belin Jr. and William Patrick Belin; brother Cleland Leonard Belin of Port St. Joe, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors between 5 and 7 p.m. EDST today, June 1, at Long Avenue Baptist Church, l601 Long Ave., Port St. Joe. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. EDST Saturday, June 3, at Long Avenue Baptist Church, Port St. Joe. Interment will immediately follow at Holly Hill Cemetery, Port St. Joe. Floral arrangements may be made with Comforter Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Jacob Chapman Belin to Long Avenue Baptist Church and to First United Methodist Church of Port St. Joe.

ALICE HARRIET WEINTRAUB BROWN
Alice Harriet Weintraub Brown, born March 8, 1921, in Boston, Mass., died May 30, 2000, in Panama City, Fla. She is survived by four children: Jeanne Riva Brown Lukinich of Wrangell, Alaska, Samuel Brown of Falls Church, Va., Herbert Brown of Colorado Springs, Colo., Henry Brown of Woodstock, Ga.; six grandchildren; one sister, Honey Weintraub Leitz of Panama City; two brothers, Jason Barry Weintraub of Atlanta, Ga., Allan Paul Weintraub of Lady Lake, Fla.; plus many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews of whom many referred to her as Bubbie. Alice moved with her husband, Dave, and their four children to Gainesville in 1958. She retired as a customer service representative from Sears Roebuck after 25 years. Shortly after her retirement, she made her residence in Panama City to be with her family. She resided at the Saint Andrew Towers. Two days a week were spent as a volunteer in the surgical waiting room of Gulf Coast Medical Center caring for the needs of others. Her cheery face and smile will be missed by all those that knew and loved her.

Memorial services for Jamie Dawes, age 40, will be held Saturday, June 3 at 1 p.m., at Wilson Funeral Home, 214 Airport Rd. All friends are welcome. Her children: Joan, Wesley, Mathew, Anna and grandson, Joseph survive her.

MARCUS CLAY EDWARDS
Marcus Clay Edwards, age 4, of Pensacola, died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at his residence following an extended illness. Marcus was born Nov. 2, 1995, in Tallahassee, Fla., one of twin boys born to Dion and Deanna Edwards. He was a patient at Caring Hearts Pediatric Center and touched the lives of many people. His strength and courage through all that he had gone through is an inspiration to all who knew and loved him. He was truly a great blessing. He is survived by his mother, Deanna Edwards of Pensacola; father, Dion Edwards of Atlanta; twin, Malcolm; sisters: Jasmine, Jessica, Keisha Edwards all of Pensacola; brother, Dion Edwards Jr. of Atlanta; stepmother, Renee Edwards of Atlanta; grandfathers, Timothy Johnson of Panama City and Henry Edward Jr. of Pensacola; grandmothers, Jeanette Johnson of Panama City and Geraldine Scott of Pensacola; great-grandmother, Alice Edwards of Pensacola; as well as numerous uncles, aunts, cousins other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 3, at Benboe Funeral Chapel with Edler Melvin Burnett of Obedience In Faith Ministry officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Gardens. Honorary pallbearers will be Timothy Johnson Jr. and Christopher Johnson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Caring Hearts Pediatric Care Center.

CARRIE DELL HAMMONS
Mrs. Carrie Dell Hammons, age 81, of 1108 Indiana Ave., Lynn Haven, Fla., went to be with Jesus Tuesday, May 30, 2000. She had been a resident of the area since 1955, coming here from Virginia. Mrs. Hammons was a great cook and enjoyed gardening. She was also a wonderful wife and mother. Mrs. Hammons is survived by a daughter: Faye W. Dennis and her husband David of Lynn Haven, Fla.; three sons: Elton Williams and his wife Margaret of Goldsboro, N.C., Earl Williams of Williamston, N.C., and Leroy Bland and his wife Ann of Plymouth, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mattie Elizabeth Parker and her husband Woodrow Hammons. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. today, June 2, 2000, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Key officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.

Kathryn Marie Hodges, age 70, passed away April 24, 2000, from a brief encounter with lung cancer. Family and friends will meet at Granite Ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyo., on Monday, July 3, at 2 p.m., for a celebration of her life. For more information, call David Hodges at 307-739-9582.

WILLIE JAMES MOORE
Superintendent Willie James Moore, 62, of 1403 Louisiana Ave., died Monday, May 29, 2000, at his home. Supt. Willie James Moore was born Feb. 19, 1938, in Forest Home, Ala., to Mrs. Callie Moore and the late Mr. Willie Moore. He received his education in the Georgiana, Ala., school district. He attended church as a youth at Hickory Grove Missionary Baptist Church. After graduating from high school, he moved to Panama City, Fla. He received the Holy Ghost at Faith Temple C.O.G.I.C. where he began his ministry as a great leader for God. He resided as Pastor of Park Street C.O.G.I.C. in Defuniak Springs, Fla., for 25 years. He also held the office of Superintendent of Panama City District No. 1 for the past 12 years. He was a role model for his family and left behind a legacy for his children of loving and respecting themselves, their families and all of God's children. He leaves to cherish fond memories his loving and devoted wife, Gladys Marie; five children: Willie Jr. (Katrina) Moore of Indianapolis, Ind., Titus (Tara) Moore of Atlanta, Beverly Ann Moore of Panama City, Terrence C. Moore of Phoenix, Ariz., John N. Moore of Panama City and the "apple" of his eye, Shantrella Parker of Panama City; nine grandchildren: Sydney, Clara Jasmine, Adonis, Keevin, Devon, Callie, Lyric, Tyler and Tierra; his mother, Mrs. Callie S. Moore; three sisters: Mattie J. Bell of Panama City, Margaret (Willie J.) Ware of Gainesville and Annie Ruth (Charlie) Jackson of Panama City; four brothers: Raymond Lee (Eveline) Moore, Eddie Lee (Dorothy) Moore, Isaiah (Shirley) Moore and Dann Lee McCreary, all of Panama City; two other sisters-in-law, Francietta Dennie of Detroit, Mich., (Elder Milton Lee) of Jacksonville, Fla., Christell (Pastor Zigmond) Jones of Pontiac, Mich.; two brothers-in-law, Richard (Gloria) Parker of Atlanta and James Frank (Datrina) Parker of Panama City; three aunts: Velma Banks of Forest Home, Ala., Louise Moore of Ohio, Susie Lee Stackhouse of Forest Home; three uncles: Willie Lee Stack house of Forest Home and Ernest (Dean) Stackhouse and Jimmy Lee Moore (Regina) both from Phoenix, Ariz.; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, along with the Park Street Church of God in Christ Church family. Funeral services for Supt. Moore will be held Saturday, June 3 at 1 p.m. in Holy Temple Church of God Church in Christ with Elder W.C. Green, Pastor, Bishop C.D. Kinsey, Prelate, and Supt. John Lee officiating. Interment will follow in Lynn Haven Community Cemetery. Public visitation for viewing will begin this afternoon at the funeral home at 1 p.m. A wake service will be held this evening at 6 p.m. at Park Street Church of God in Christ in Defuniak Springs. The family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Gladys Moore, 1403 Louisiana Ave., Lynn Haven.

DAVID CHRISTIAN DAY
Mr. David Christian Day, 39, of Lynn Haven, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, in Tallahassee Community Hospital. David was a lifelong resident of Bay County and worked in insurance. He was also a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lynn Haven. David is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Ray Day Sr. He is survived by his mother, Mary Eleanor Day of Lynn Haven; one son, Kenneth Lawrence Day of Lynn Haven; two brothers, Kenneth R. Day Jr. and wife Nancy of Phenix City, Ala., Robert A. Day and wife Susan of Dublin, Ga.; aunt, Jenelle Day Pledger of Lynn Haven; four nephews, Ellie Day, William Day, Jeffrey Day and Dallas Day. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, June 4 at 5 p.m., in Southerland Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Fred Keith officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m.
