Peter Anthony Sappington II, 19, of 1902 Tyndall Drive in Panama City, died Friday, June 23, 2000, in Marietta, Ga. He was preceded in death by his father, Peter Anthony Sappington Sr.; and his grandparents, Joe H. Wright and Elsie Sappington. He is survived by his parents, Kevin Matthew and Margie Sappington Langford of Panama City; a brother, Collin Andrew Sappington; grandparents, Pete Sappington of Tunica, Miss., Kay Wright of Hollandale, Miss., John and Ida Mae Langford of Arcadia, Fla. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

DOUGLAS EUGENE BRITTEN
Douglas Eugene Britten, 47, of Panama City Beach, died Thursday afternoon, June 22, 2000, in a local hospital. Mr. Britten was a native of West Virginia, and had lived in Panama City Beach for the past year. Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

EUGENE MILLARD CALLOWAY
The Rev. Eugene Millard Calloway, 89, of 1500 E. 26th St., Lynn Haven, died Saturday, June 24, 2000, in his home. He was a longtime resident of Panama City since 1927. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Barnes Calloway of Lynn Haven; two daughters, Barbara C. Gaddie and husband, Bill of Lynn Haven, Cynthia Johnson Watkins and husband, Wayne of Chipley; son, Gary E. Calloway and wife, Brenda of Lynn Haven; five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He was co-owner of Calloway Brothers Machine Shop and in later years, worked for the Pipe-fitters Union. He organized Calloway Brothers Softball team in 1948. The Rev. Calloway was a graduate of Chandler School of Theology, Emory University, where he was ordained an elder in the United Methodist Church. He served as a pastoral lay worker at Callaway Methodist Church from 1945 to 1956, pastored Williams Memorial Methodist Church at Scotts Ferry, and pastored Springfield Methodist Church for three years. He served with the local prison ministry for 45 years working with adults at the CCA and with juveniles at DYS. He also served in mission work in the Bahama Islands with Global Harvesters from Asbury College. Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. in First United Methodist Church with Dr. Doug Newton, the Rev. Dan Norman, the Rev. Fred Melvin, the Rev. Robert Hall, the Rev. Mike Parker officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that contributions be made to the Asbury Foundation Fund through First United Methodist Church, the Juvenile Detention Prison Ministry, or the Emerald Coast Hospice in memory of the Rev. Eugene Calloway. Active pallbearers will be his grandsons, Greg Johnson, Chris Johnson, David Wilson, Keith Bryant, Mike Gaddie and other family members, Tommy Calloway, Wesley Norman, Aaron Giersch, Jason Parker and Jay Ruby. Honorary pallbearers are Billy Joe Melvin Jr., Willie Pollard, Dale Brown, Horace Pitts, Fred Lewis, Sonny Myers, Horace Smith and J.V. Suggs.

MARILYN FUNDERBURK
Mrs. Marilyn Funderburk, 47, of White City, Fla., died Monday, June 26, 2000, at her home. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, June 30 at 9:30 a.m. EDT in Sycamore Methodist Church in Gadsden County, Fla., with Pastor Lee Cordell officiating. Interment will follow in Sycamore Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. EDT.

NELLIS F. JOHNSON
Mr. Nellis F. Johnson, age 80, of 111 N. Cove Blvd., Panama City, died Monday, June 26, 2000, at his home. Johnson was a native of Avery County, N.C., and a resident of Panama City since 1957. He was employed by The News Herald for 15 years as a news editor and cartoonist. He created the popular feature, "Panhandle Parade" for The News Herald. He was also the creator of the syndicated comic strip "Corn Flakes" which appeared in several hundred newspapers coast to coast. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, served on the board of Panama City Rescue Mission, the American Cancer Society and was a member of Bay County Historical Society. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Reba G. Johnson; two sons, Wayne Johnson and wife Irene, Randy Johnson and wife Thanom; two daughters, Janet Johnson and Brenda Johnson; four grandchildren, Paul Johnson and wife Mecheal, Jeff Johnson, Theresa Campbell and husband Robbie, Rita Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Laura Johnson and Madison Ward, all of Panama City. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 28, at 10 a.m. in Southerland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Baron officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

FRANCES LENORA KEITH
Frances Lenora Keith, 63, of Crawfordville, Fla., died on Sunday, June 25, 2000, at her home. A native of Apalachicola, Ms. Keith had lived in Crawfordville for the past two years, moving there from Tallahassee. She was a retired Environmental Specialist with The State of Florida Department of Environment Protection. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution Protection. She was a member of North Florida Geneology Society, a life member of Georgia Salsburger, and was Episcopalian by faith. She is survived by her son, Geroge Keith Thompson of Crawfordville; two daughters, Margie Quillman and Patricia Keith-Minasian, both of Tallahassee; her mother, Mrs. Margie Marshall Keith of Lynn Haven; one sister, Annelle Keith Blanchett of Tallahassee; and seven grandchildren. Family will receive friends today, June 27, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. EDT at Kelley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 28, at 10:30 a.m. EDT at The Trinity Episcopal Church in Apalachicola. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery in Apalachicola.

ALLEN KEMP
Allen "Shorty" Kemp, 83, of Wewahitchka, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2000, at home following an extended illness. He was a lifelong resident of Wewahitchka, and a member of First Baptist Church. Mr. Kemp owned and operated a fish bait shop. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy K. Kemp of Wewahitchka; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Ave Kemp of Wewahitchka; four grandchildren: Eddie Kemp of Lynn Haven, Debra Setterich of Tallahassee, Teddy Kemp and Adam Kemp of Wewahitchka; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Willie Estridge of Wewahitchka; and a brother, Alva Kemp of Wewahitchka. The funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. CDT Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Wewahitchka, conducted by the Rev. Mike Stroud. Interment will follow in the family plot on Kemp Cemetery. He will lie in state at Comforter Funeral Home, Wewahitchka Branch Chapel, from 3 to 9 p.m. today, June 27.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy L. Kordish, 62, of Panama City have been changed to Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at 10 a.m., in Forest Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Parker officiating. PEGGY JONES
Mrs. Peggy Jones, age 58, of 4001 E. 8th St., Panama City, Fla., died Sunday, June 25, 2000, at Phoebe-Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Ga. She had been a resident of the area since 1977, coming here from Albany, Ga. Mrs. Jones was the assistant food service manager for Haney Vo Tech. She was Baptist by faith and enjoyed cooking. Mrs. Jones is survived by her Husband, James R. Jones of Panama City; two sons, James R. Jones Jr. of Newport News, Va., and John Mark Jones of Savannah, Ga.; a brother, C.B. Powell of Livingston, Ala.; sisters: Fenella Thomas of Mobile, Ala., Johnnie May Stewart of Hamilton, Miss., Inez Radcliffe of York, Ala., and Fay Ledden of Ward, Ala.; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Katie Lou Duke. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 28, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Key officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Lee Thomas, Mike Thomas, Scott Powell, "Mac" Jones, Steve Bell and Matthew Cannon. HERBERT PATTON SAPP
Mr. Herbert Patton Sapp, born Feb. 28, 1901, died Saturday, June 24, 2000, in a Crystal River, Fla., hospital, at the age of 90. Mr. Sapp accompanied his parents, Joshua Mercer Sapp and Ella Mae Patton Sapp to Panama City in September of 1912. Panama City was home to Mr. Sapp for many years. He graduated from Bay High School in 1927. After graduating from the University of Florida School of Law, he was active in the private practice of law in the local area. One of his more famous cases occurred when he served as defense attorney for the man accused of killing a local hardware store owner, Mr. Van Kleek. He also served as a member and chairman of the local school board, school board attorney, for both Bay and Walton Counties, and as attorney for Bay County. He served as a Gunnery Captain in the Merchant Marines during Word War II. Mr. Sapp was an active ember of First United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school, both in the adult and youth departments and served both as a member and chairman of the Board of Stewards. Mr. Sapp branched into the marina business where he developed, owned and operated Treasure Island Marina on Thomas Drive. For the last 25 years, Mr. Sapp has resided in Fort Lauderdale, Okeechobee and more recently in Gulf Hammock, Fla. He is survived by two children, Herbert P. Sapp Jr. and Dr. Miriam Sapp Bozarth, both of Panama City; three step-children: Bill Forester and Pat Pritchard, both of Port St. Joe, Carol Soderquist of Vero Beach; six grandchildren, Teresa Kennedy of Katy, Texas, James M. Sapp Jr., Allison Sapp, Troy Sapp and J.P. Bozarth all of Panama City, Kimberly Smith of St. Louis, Mo.; several step-grandchildren; his brother, William Howard Sapp of Panama City. A son, James Mercer Sapp, precedes Mr. Sapp in death. Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, June 29, at 10 a.m. in Greenwood Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be: Johnny Patronis, Tommy Smith, John Christo Jr. and Hugh Moseley. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, from 6 to 8 p.m.
