Funeral services will be held Monday, July 10, at 10 a.m. in First Baptist Church of Bonifay with the Rev. Jeff Ross, Kelly Ross, Rodney Culpepper and Adolph Pharis officiating. Burial will follow at Bonifay City Cemetery. Survivors include nephews, Joseph B. Ross of Lynn Haven, Joey and wife Donna Ross of Bonifay, Jeff and wife Eleatha Ross of Dothan, Ala., Kelly and wife Joan Ross of Elba, Ala.; nieces, Myrtle Hardy, Jean Samuelson, Johnnie Lou Tobin all of Bonifay, Martha Jo Register of Tallahassee; step-grandchildren, Sheri and husband Ricky Brooks of Bonifay, Teri Curry and husband Tom Burns, Raye Curry all of Jacksonville, Fla., Lisa and husband Terry Gilligan of Thomasville, Fla.; great nephews, nieces and great-step-children.

JAMES LEE 'JAY' RAMSEY
Mr. James Lee "Jay" Ramsey, 63, of Southport, Fla., passed away, on Thursday, July 6, 2000, after having fought a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today, July 9 at the Kent-Forest Lawn and Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Simmons officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Mike Ramsey, Gary Ramsey, Doug Ramsey, Wayne Ramsey, Sid Dykes, Quintin Dykes, Donald Booth and Gene Baker. Honorary pallbearers will include all of Jay's friends and co-workers at the Navy Coastal Systems Station, who worked with him over the years.

Mr. John Hughie Sexton, 54, of 3827 Alva Thomas Road, Panama City, Fla., died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at his home. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 9, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Don Shoots officiating. Honorary pallbearers will include Billy Williams, Ed Cauthen, Jack Penny, Dan Wallace, John Mitchell, Jesse Riley, Zane Jarzynka and Lee Alford. Interment will follow.

Mrs. Leola Elizabeth Gilmore Smith, 96, of 615 Barton Ave., died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, in a local hospital. Funeral services and final interment will be entrusted to Burton Funeral Home, 180 Morningstar Road, Staten Island, N.Y. 10303. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the George H. and Leola E. Mr. James M. Thomas Sr., 96, of Cedar Grove, died Friday, June 30, 2000, at his residence. Mr. Thomas was a native of New Jersey, and had resided in Bay County for a number of yeas. Mr. Thomas was self-employed as an automobile mechanic. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Jane S. Brewer, 74, of Marianna died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan. She was a native of Pensacola, co-owner of Brewer's Studio for 20 years, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Marianna. She is survived by her husband, Branson Brewer; two sons and daughter-in-law, H.B. "Bud" Brewer of Panama City, and John Brewer and wife Debbie of Marianna; two daughters, Becky S. Brewer and Mary Dungan, both of Marianna; one brother and sister-in-law, Mallory Sims and wife Virginia of Pensacola; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, at the First Presbyterian Church of Marianna with the Rev. Buren Phillips and Dr. Frank Hyles officiating. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with Lord Funeral Home of Marianna directing. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to may make a contribution to the American Heart Association.

Charles Benjamin "Bennie" Nelson, 50, of 1014 E. 26th St. in Panama City, died Thursday, July 6, 2000, at a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held today at 10 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Buddy Tipton officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery. Those desiring to make a contribution may do so to the American Diabetes Association in memory of Bennie Nelson. Active pallbearers are Ronnie Halstead, Justin Nelson, Myles Nelson, Danny Hutchison, Terry Hutchison, Mike Hales, Joseph "Pee Wee" Quick and Randy Elderidge.

Alverna Pitts, 82, of Panama City died Sunday at the Bay Crest Nursing Center in Panama City. Mrs. Pitts was born in Frink, Fla., and had lived in Panama City the past 10 years moving from Calhoun County. She was a member of the Callaway Baptist Church in Callaway. She is survived by a son, George and wife Rosalie Bailey of Fountain; daughter, Oletha and husband Hubert Fowler of Panama City; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husbands, Harvey Pitts and Burley Bailey; two sons, Raymond and Dwain Bailey. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10 p.m. at the graveside of Cypress Creek Cemetery in Kinard with the Rev. Gene Hodges officiating. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. CDT at the Adams Funeral Home in Blountstown.

ALAN L. BROWN
Mr. Alan L. Brown, age 57 of 180 N. Kimbrel Ave., Callaway, Fla., passed away Friday, July 7, 2000. He was a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., and had lived in Callaway four years, moving here from West Palm Beach. He was an Independent Insurance Adjuster, and had worked as an agent for American General Insurance Company. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was of the Jewish faith. He is survived by his wife, Karen Brown of Callaway; two sons, Joshua Aaron Brown and Eric Michah Brown, both of Callaway; his "adopted son," Michael Hoff of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Robert H. Brown of Pensacola and Lawrence J. Brown of Staten Island, N.Y. Private graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 12, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Burial will follow. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, July 11, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Dorothy Marie Lewis, 57, of 1902 Chestnut Ave. for 33 years, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at 5:45 p.m. at 500 Lori Lane, the home of her son. She was a charter member of Northside Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pink Falls Lewis Jr. Mrs. Lewis is survived by four sons, David Wayne Lewis and his wife Gabriela of Uraguay, South America; William Terry Lewis and his wife Ann of Panama City; Gregory Falls Lewis and his wife Annette of Foley, Ala.; Timothy Michael Lewis and his wife Michelle of Panama City; nine grandchildren: Gregory Falls Lewis Jr, Randall Weston Lewis, Preston Michael Lewis, Joshua Stephen Lewis, Rachel Marie Pink Lewis, Timothy Blake Lewis, Christian Nicholas Lewis, Angie Heveia Nunez Lewis, and Kevin Heveia Nunez Lewis; her parents, Carthon and Ruby Bell; sister, Mary Landingham and three brothers: James Bell, Charles Bell, Ronald Bell and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held today at 10:30 a.m. in Northside Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Moore and the Rev. Lewis Miller officiating. Those desiring to may make a contribution to The Hospice of Northwest Florida, 2589 Jenks Ave., Panama City, FL 32405 in memory of Dorothy Lewis. TERRENCE PURCELL
Mr. Terrence Purcell, age 79, of Galveston, Texas, formerly of Panama City, Fla., died Thursday, March 30, 2001. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Mr. Purcell was a member of Zion Ministries and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post No. 2185. He is survived by four stepchildren; four brothers: Bobby Purcell and Walter Purcell both of Bathrop, Texas and Dan Purcell of Corpus Christi, Texas; a sister, Joan English of Mesquite, Texas; eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 1, at the Zion Ministries with the Rev. Jim Sansom officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Oliver Bush, Terry Bush, Tony Jennings, Bo Williams, Mark McWaters, and Craig LaMere. Mr. Joseph T. Weathers, Sr., age 93, of Clermont, Fla., passed away Thursday, March 30, 2001, at a hospital in the Clermont area. He had lived in Clermont for the past 15 years and had reviously lived in Panama City. Mr. Weathers was a retired minister and a member of the hurch of God of Prophecy. He is survived by one daughter, Vivian E. Pittman of Clermont, la.; two sons, Joseph T. Weathers, Jr. of Spring valley, N.Y., and Elbert J. Weathers of Panama City, Fla.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at p.m., Sunday, April 1, 2001, at the Cherry Hill Church of God of Prophecy with the Rev. Mikey ones officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home, today, March 31, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m.
