Mrs. Nathanell Haddock Rohrer, 57, of 360 Silver Creek Trail died Sunday, July 23, 2000, at her residence. She was born on March 10, 1943 in Chipley, Fla., a daughter of J.T. Haddock and Viney Pippin Haddock and was married to Charles S. Rohrer in 1959. She was a former employee of Johnson Neurological in High Point and was a member of the First Wesleyan Church of High Point. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Marsha Talley and brother Edwin Haddock. She is survived by her husband of the home; her parents of Panama City; daughters: Deirdre Capps and husband Lewis of Thomasville, Sondra Manning and husband Claye of Lexington, S.C., Michelle Owens and husband Kevin of Lebanon, Ind., Daphne Roberson and husband Todd of High Point; son-in-law, Kim Talley of High Point; sister, Sandra Kershaw of Bradenton; grandchildren: Jacob Talley, Randec Capps, Melanie Cary, Erin and Tyler Manning, Charles, Brandon and Austin Owens, Christina and Kathryn Rizos. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First Wesleyan Church. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Park and Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Cumby Family Funeral Service of High Point, Eastchester Drive. The family will be at the home at other times. YUPIN 'PENNY' WEICHT
Yupin "Penny" Weicht, of Lynn Haven, passed on to be with her heavenly father on Friday, July 21, 2000. Many knew of Penny as a hardworking hairdresser and seamstress. She was a very loving mother and friend who was full of life. She loved to go fishing, dancing and was an extremely gifted cook. Penny was born in Thailand and had resided in the Panama City area for many years. She was a member of St. Dominic's Catholic Church. She is survived by her four children: Wana Roos, Chatchai "Bill" Khammuan, Jonathan K. Wesley, Sherry Hauck; and numerous grandchildren. We are thankful for the time we shared with her during her life and she will always be in our hearts and thoughts. We will miss her bright personality and warm spirit. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 26, at St. Dominic's Catholic Church.

Ms. Geneva Elizabeth Griffin, of Panama City, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, in a local hospital. Born in Lawton, Okla., she moved to Panama City in 1992. She worked for Central State Mattress Co. and was Baptist by faith. She is survived by one son Jack B. Griffin and wife Sharon of Gainesville; two daughters, June Cumbo of Palatka, Lorene Taylor and husband Steve of Panama City; two sisters, Clara Hodges of Anadarko, Okla., and Margaret Fern of Oklahoma City, Okla.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. WILLIAM ALSEY GARRETT
Mr. William Alsey Garrett, age 86, of 1301 W. 13th St., Panama City, Fla., died Sunday, July 23, 2000. He had been a resident of the area since 1970, coming here from Rock Island, Ill. Mr. Garrett was retired from the civil service after 29 years. During his career in the civil service he was weapons and equipment command specialist for the U.S. Army during World War II, Korea and Vietnam and was on a special weapons team that was involved in troubleshooting the M-16 rifle in Vietnam. Mr. Garrett was a member and elder of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mildred Garrett of Panama City, Fla.; a daughter, Gloria Jane Rowell and her husband Albert of Panama City; sons, James H. Garrett and his wife Linda of Clarksville, Md., William D. Garrett and his wife Brigitte of Augsburg, Germany; grandchildren, Mariesa Severson of Fort Mill, S.C., LeAnne Carter of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Andrew Rowell of Dothan, Ala. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with son-in-law, the Rev. Albert Rowell officiating. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Mac McCreary, Mac Bowen, Mark Bowen, Jim Garrett, Andy Garrett and Bruce Reid. Our precious child and friend, William Hall, age 8, went home to the loving arms of our Lord, Sunday, July 23, 2000. Born April 8, 1992, he was a meteor that crossed our sky and blessed our lives for such a short time. He was called away from us too soon as the result of a jet-ski accident. William was an excellent student, a freckled-faced superstar in every sport he embraced, from soccer to baseball to skateboarding. He was the spiritual and religious leader of the pack, always out front, always smiling and polite and always the consummate friend and good sport with everyone he encountered. Independent and outgoing, William knew Christ at an early age, and lived a happy, energetic life while on this Earth. He is survived by his beloved mother, Rebecca Cleckley Hall and her fiance, James Cary; his idolized older brother and best friend, Jacob Phillip Hall, all of Panama City; and his birth father, Ernie Hall Jr. While on Earth, God placed William in the loving home of a wonderful extended family who raised him with heart and reverence and love for his surrounding world. Many of his favorite moments were spent in the backyard of his maternal grandparents, Charles, after whom William was named, and Betty Cleckley of Wewahitcka, who rejoice in the time they had with William. He also enjoyed playing with his cousin, Heather Strange, daughter of Reuben and Joan Cleckley, his devoted maternal uncle and aunt. William also spent many wonderful times with his paternal grandmother, Mozelle Hall Gates of Blountstown. He also leaves behind his cousins, Brian and Carlos Hall, sons of Philip and Rosario Hall, paternal uncle and aunt, two paternal great-grandmothers, Lillian Poole and Mary Whitfield all of Blountstown, and many other cousins and great aunts and uncles too numerous to name. Jose Salas, a student from Quito Ecquador, was a very special friend of William's and a close part of his life for the past three years. Since moving here, William had been a student at Holy Nativity Episcopal School in Panama City, and leaves behind a close-knit circle of friends who will hold him in their hearts forever. The students plan their own celebration of his life at another date to be announced. A memorial service for William will be conducted by Father John Richardson on Wednesday, July 26, at Holy Nativity Episcopal Church at 2 p.m. in the afternoon. A gravesite service will follow at 4 p.m. at Robert's Cemetary in Wewahitchka.. There will be no formal visitation. In keeping with the generous spirit William shared with us in his life, his organs will be donated so that other children may live a complete life. The family and friends ask that instead of flowers, donations be sent to Holy Nativity School, at 222 North Bonita Avenue, Panama City, Fla. 32401 (747-4000), where a memorial soccer field will be built in William's memory.

Louis Wayne "Rhino" Hendels, 52, of Apalachicola, died Saturday, July 22, 2000, at his home. A native and lifelong resident of Apalachicola, Mr. Hendels worked for St. Joe Paper Co. for 29 years as a pipe fitter and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He is survived by two sons, Dwayne Hendels of West Palm Beach, Michael Hendels of Apalachicola; daughter, Amy Forman of West Palm Beach; stepson, Shawn Ward of Apalachicola; sister, Debbie Cox of Apalachicola; grandchild, Jarod Alexander Forman of West Palm Beach. Mr. Harry Maxwell Murphy, 72, of Port St. Joe, Fla., departed this life, Sunday, July 23, 2000. He was born in Ezel, Ky., and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He retired from the Life Ins. Co. of Georgia and was a member of St. Joe Masonic Lodge No. 111. His parents, Harry W. and Ruth Henry Murphy and his late wife, Janie Schhuler Murphy, precede Mr. Murphy in death. Mrs. Senella P. Oliver, 87, of 1515 Michigan Ave., died Friday, July 21, 2000, in the Gulf Coast Convelesant Center. She was a native of Calhoun County, Ga., but had been a resident of Lynn Haven since 1975. She was a member of Second Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and was employed at Gulf Coast Nursing Home until she retired. She leaves to mourn her death, one brother, Mr. Willie B. MIRIAM LOIS WOODS GERDE
Miriam Lois Woods Gerde passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, July 25, 2000, at her home, after having enjoyed a quiet celebration of her 86th birthday the preceding week, on July 18. Born in Stephen, Minn., in 1914, she was one of nine brothers and sisters. Her father,Frank Woods, was a land manager and farmer and businessman, and her mother, Luella Noyes Woods, was one of the first female graduates of Lawrence College. Miriam attended public schools in Stephen, graduating in 1929 at age 15. She subsequently attended Hamline University (as did seven of her siblings), and was graduated from Hamline with a B.A. In 1939, she met then Lt. Clifford S. Gerde (U.S. Coast Guard Academy, 1936), and they were married on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 1939, in the Macalester College Chapel in St. Paul, Minn. Mrs. Gerde treasured their marriage until the passing of Mr. Gerde on Jan. 19, 1991. Mrs. Gerde was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Luella Woods; and by seven of her siblings. She is survived by two sons, Jerry W. Gerde, Esq. of Panama City, Fla., and Lee S. Gerde, M.D., of McAllen, Texas. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Winton C. and Shirley Woods, of Alpharetta, Ga.; and by her granddaughter, Virginia Woods Gerde, Ph.D., of Albuquerque, N.M.; and by her grandson, Eric Stendahl Gerde, a doctoral candidate at the University of Texas in Austin. Mrs. Gerde enjoyed the winter concert season presented by the Panama City Music Assn., and she believed deeply in wise stewardship of natural resources and systems. Anyone wishing to do so may consider a memorial to the Panama City Music Assn., Endowment, or to the Bay County Conservancy, Inc. Mrs. Gerde will be laid to rest next to her late husband in the National Cemetery, Beaufort, S.C. An informal celebration of her life and her passing will be held on Saturday morning, July 29, 2000, at 10 a.m., in McKenzie Park, where she enjoyed so many Thursday evening Concerts-In-The-Park.
