Jessie "J.P." Toole, 71, of Sneads, Fla., died Sunday afternoon, Aug. 7, 2005, at his residence following an extended illness.

He was born in Early County, Ga., Aug. 4, 1934, and has lived in Jackson County since 1977. He retired from McDaniels IGA as a meat cutter. He was a member of the Grand Ridge Baptist Church, where he served as deacon. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lint and Sarah Toole; and brother, Carlton Toole.

Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Nettie Hatcher Toole of Sneads; sons, Jessie Phillip Toole and wife Susan of Chattahoochee and James Martin and wife Janet, also of Chattahoochee; daughters, Cynthia Branch and husband Wayne of Grand Ridge and Sheila A. Hosey and husband Buddy of Quincy; sister, Edna Nix of Leesburg, Ga.; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 10, at 3 p.m., at the Grand Ridge Baptist Church, with the Revs. Chester Padgett and James Hatcher officiating.

The family will receive friends today, Aug. 9, from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m., at Lord Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Covenant Hospice. Lord Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Florene Ivey Alford, 87, of Bonifay, Fla., passed away Aug. 14, 2005, at her residence.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chauncey "Red" Alford; brother, Henry N. Ivey; and sister, Kathryn Reeder.

Survivors include her son Larry Alford of Bonifay; brother, Glynn Ivey of Ebro; sister, Margaret Matthews of Marianna; and grandchildren, William C. Alford of Atlanta, Ga., and Nancy Lee Alford of Tallahassee.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, August 16, at 10 a.m., at Bonifay City Cemetery, with Dr. Jeff Spicer officiating. Peel Funeral Home directed.

Joe T. McGinnis, 62, of Woodbury, Tenn., formerly of Graceville, passed away Monday, Aug. 15, 2005, in Louisville, Ky., following a sudden illness.

He was born in Malone March 13, 1943. He was a 1961 graduate of Graceville High School and a U.S. Coast Guard Veteran. He was a truck driver with Weaver Trucking Company in Woodbury.

Survivors include his son, Tim McGinnis and wife Nicky of Clearwater; parents, Sam and Bonnie Taylor of Graceville; brothers, Jack Franklin of Tallahassee and Danny Taylor of Graceville; sisters, Judy Taylor and husband Harold and Evie Granberry, all of Graceville; granddaughters, Amber and Autumn McGinnis; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, August 19, at the Damascus Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with James and Lipford Funeral Home of Graceville directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Thursday, August 18, from 6 - 8 p.m.

Cindy Grady Shuler Mitchell, 59, of Blountstown, died Aug. 11, 2005 in Gainesville.
A service was held at 3 p.m. Monday at First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Blountstown with burial following in Waldorff Cemetery in Jackson County.

Cindy was a native of Bainbridge, Ga., and a lifelong resident of the Blountstown area. She was a teacher for the Liberty County School system for more than 28 years.

She was an avid traveler, loved arts and crafts and was the author of a children's textbook.

She was a loving wife and mother and attended First Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Bobby F. Mitchell, of Blountstown; sons Chris Mitchell, of Crawfordville, Charles Mitchell, of Gainesville, and Matt Mitchell, of Marianna.

Bevis Funeral Home and Crematory was in charge of arrangements.

John David Loper, 49, a corrections officer at Apalachee Correctional Institution in Sneads, died Aug. 14, 2005, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Ala.

He was born in Homestead and had lived in Sneads for 16 years. He came to Jackson County from Largo.

He was a retired sergeant with the Florida Department of Corrections.

All his friends and family were very dear to his heart.

He enjoyed riding motorcycles, spending time with his family and was an active member in community projects.

It is very important to him that all his friends and family know that he is in a better place and will be waiting for them.

It was his request that you please do not mourn about his passing, but rejoice.

He is survived by his wife Cynthia Darlene Loper, of Sneads; daughters Letitia Vance, of Clearwater, Krystal Sieber, of Marianna, and Jennifer Sasser, of Marianna; brother Henry Loper, of Camilla, Ga.; nephews Jason Loper, wife Melissa and their sons Joseph and Warren; Clayton and Cyrus Loper; niece Jessie Phillips and husband Dan; grandchildren Gavin Sieber and Lexandra Floyd; and his loving rat terrier Harley.

He was preceded in death by his mother Edith "Midge" Austria and father Cecil "Slim" Loper.

A service will be held at 10 a.m.Wednesday, Aug. 17 at graveside in Dykes Cemetery in Sneads.

Family are receiving friends at their home 1991 Petes Way, Sneads.

Memorial contributions may be made to Toys for Tots at the Sneads Police Department, P.O. Box 126, Sneads, Fla. 32460.

Lanier-Andler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements

Clarkie Coulliette Ditty, 88, of Sneads, Fla., died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2005.

She was a homemaker and a native and life-long resident of Jackson County. She was a charter member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Sneads.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Henry Coulliette and W.F. Ditty; and stepson, Morris Ditty.

Survivors include her daughter, LaNelle Meadows and husband Donald of Sneads; son, James A. Coulliette and wife Rebecca of Sneads; stepson, Brantley Ditty and wife Betty of Bascom; step-daughter, Nell LAnd and husband Mervin of Greenwood; step-daughter-in-law, Jimmie Ditty of Dothan, Ala.; sisters, Willie Mae Johnson of Marianna, Levelle Jones and husband Charles of Sneads, Frances Parker and husband Hulan of Kent, Wash., and Verna Hopkins and husband Bud of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Barry Meadows, William Meadows, Donna Miller and husband Tom, John A. Coulliette and wife Linda and Tonya Hewett and husband Rodney; great-grandchildren, Dustin and Sierra Hewett and Georgia and Ryan Miller; step-grandchildren, Brian Ditty, Saundra Grantham, Gene Ditty Jr., Wade Ditty, Vicky Patridge, Stacey Earhart, Talana Vogel and Theresa Grimsley; step-great-grandchildren, Kevin and David Barrett and Kim Clark.

The family will receive friends today, Friday, Aug. 26, from 5 - 7 p.m., at Lanier Andler Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 27, at First Freewill Baptist Church in Sneads. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Chattahoochee.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund, 2080, Tanna Ave., Sneads, 32460.

Sheryl Linda Pelt, 59, of Tallahassee, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, at her residence.

She was born in Marianna, but lived in Tallahassee for 40 years. She retired from the Florida State University Chemistry Department where she worked for 30 years. She was a member of the Marianna Seventh Day Adventist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lee Pelt.

Survivors include her mother, Mildred Holt of Marianna; brother, Stephen Holt; sisters, Sybil Curran, Chrystelle Caslar, Penny Calvin, Doris Richardson, and Florence Sanders; and a special aunt, Audrey Chapin.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., today, Friday, Aug. 26, at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Marianna, with Pastor Chuck Woods officiating. The family will receive friends at Maddox Chapel today from 9 a.m. until service time.

Funeral services for Casey Wheelus Hood, 36, will be held today, Friday, Aug. 26., 2005, at 2 p.m., in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Cottondale First Baptist Church Cemetery. Marianna Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Madonna Jean Velez, 50, of Marianna died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005 at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Panama City.

She was born in Des Moines, Iowa Aug. 2, 1955. She lived in Jackson County for 10 years and was employed at Florida State Hospital as a Rehab Therapist. She was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include her daughters, Joanna Marie Velez of Pensacola and Crystal Veronica Velez of Shreveport, La.; her parents, Harold and Mary Ann Wahl of Des Moines, Iowa; her brothers, John Wahl and Danny Wahl, both of Des Monies, Iowa; Bob Wahl of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Bill Wahl of Tampa; Tom Wahl of Wapello, Iowa; and Jim Wahl of Aimes, Iowa.

Services will be conducted Tuesday, Aug. 30, at 3 p.m., at Maddox Chapel. Pastor Daniel Valez will officiate and cremation will follow with James and Sikes Maddox Chapel directing.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, NCICFUL, P.O. Box 102454, Atlanta, Ga., 30368-2454.

Mattie Lee Comerford Thornton, 82, of Marianna, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, in the Marianna Health and Rehab Center.

She was a lifelong resident of this area. She was Pentecostal by faith and loved her family deeply.

Survivors include her sons, Pete Comerford of Sneads and special friend Laverne Edenfield of Chattahoochee, James E. Comerford and wife Linda of Marianna, Tony Comerford of Mulberry, Steve Comerford and wife Norma of Sneads; daughters, Mary Adams of Marianna, JoAnn Truette and husband Milford of Marianna, Betty Ann Qualls and husband Bobby Joe of Sparta, Tenn., Donna Jean Rister of Marianna; sister, Betty Bryant and husband Bobby of Tallahassee; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m., in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home, with Pastor Darrell Sammons officiating. Burial will follow in Dykes Cemetery in Sneads. The family will receive friends Monday, Aug. 29, from 6-8 p.m., in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Covenant Hospice.

Marianna Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

William Roy Wagner, 62, of Sneads, died Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005, in Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, he was a self-employed mechanic. He was of the Holiness faith and attended Emmanuel Holiness Church in Sneads.

Survivors include his mother, Lottie Arnold of Arcadia; wife, Ida M. Wagner of Sneads; daughters, Beth Tyus and husband Keith of Grand Ridge, Lavon Weeks and husband MacWayne of Sneads, Karen Mercer and husband Mike of Cypress, Kristie Creamer and husband Chuck of Marianna; sons, William E. Wagner and wife Rebecca of Scottsburg, Ind., and Ray Wagner of Sneads; brothers, Charles Wagner of Okeechobee, Wayne, Jamie and Eddie Tripp, all of Arcadia, and Floyd Wagner of South Carolina; sisters, Helen Long, Carol Tyson and Mattie Reed, all of Arcadia; 21 grandchildren and one great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 3 p.m., today, Sunday, Aug. 28, at Emmanuel Holiness Church, on Sandridge Church Road in Sneads. Burial will follow at Cow Pen Pond Cemetery in Grand Ridge.

The family will receive friends at their home, located at 3020 Sandridge Church Road in Sneads.
