Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn Byers, age 74, of 243 Elm Ave., Panama City, Fla., who died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, will be held at 10 a.m. today, Aug. 23, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Douglas officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family would like to acknowledge a special nurse, Wynette White of the Hospice of Northwest Florida. JOHNNIE B. McFATTER
Mr. Johnnie B. McFatter, 82, of Lynn Haven, Fla., died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, in Bay Medical Center. Born in Washington County, Fla., he was a lifelong resident of this area. He was a member of Central Assembly of God Church and was retired from International Paper Company. Mr. McFatter was also retired from the Civil Service Commission. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. He was superintendent for Bonnet Pond Sunday School for 15 years and was treasurer and deacon for many years at the House of Prayer in Springfield. Mr. McFatter is survived by his wife, Magdleane McFatter of Lynn Haven; one son, Harold McFatter and wife Janice of Panama City; one daughter, Gerri Anderson and husband, C.W. of Naples; one brother, George McFatter of Panama City; two sisters, Girtha Miller of Chipley and Odis Moss of Panama City; grandchildren, Jon and Mike McFatter, both of Panama City, Wally Burns, Cricket Lawson, both of Panama City, Rusty Burns of Atlanta, Ga., Vickey Burns of Panama City; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, Aug. 24, at 10 a.m. in Central Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Don Shoots, the Rev. Hayward L. Miller and the Rev. Mike McFatter officiating. Interment will follow in Bonnet Pond Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gideon's International in memory of Mr. McFatter.

THOMAS P. MESERVE
Mr. Thomas P. Meserve, 52, of Southport, Fla., died Sunday afternoon, Aug. 20, 2000, in a local hospital. Born in St. Augustine, Fla., he moved here in 1984 from Michigan. He was employed by Merrick Corporation and was a member of First Baptist Church of Lynn Haven. He was also a member of the amateur radio club. Mr. Meserve is a veteran of the USAF serving 20 years. He is survived by his mother, Kathleen Rose Meserve of St. Augustine; his wife, Bessie Meserve of Southport; one son, Thomas P. Meserve Jr. and wife Wendy of Lynn Haven; one brother, George Seth "Buster" Meserve and wife Peggy of Tallahassee; one sister, Sandy Meserve of Palatka, Fla.; special friends, Gene and Jean Snodgrass, Eddie and Elaine Senterfitt. Funeral services will be held today, Aug. 23, at 11 a.m. in First Baptist Church of Lynn Haven with the Rev. Jim Kirkland and the Rev. Burney Enzor officiating. Interment will follow in Lynn Haven Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be all members of the Adult Three Dept.-First Baptist Church of Lynn Haven. Tyndall Air Force Base honor guard will accord full military honors at graveside.

ROOSEVELT MORRIS
Mr. Roosevelt Morris, 67, of Wewahitchka passed away Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000. A native of Chipley, he had been a resident of Wewahitchka since 1961, and was retired from St. Joe Paper Company after 38 years. Survivors include his wife, Ernestine Morris of Wewahitchka; two daughters, Bonnie Crawford of Greensboro, and Susie Hartzog (Freddie) of Attapulgus, Ga.; two grandchildren, Michelle Hawkins (Trey) of Moultrie, Ga. and Niki Hartzog of Attapulgus; one great-grandchild, Jillian Hawkins of Moultrie; a close friend, Emm Leach of Wewahitchka; three sisters, Vona O'Brian of Port St. Joe, Easter Nichols of Port St. Joe, and Julie Morris of Sunny Hills; and one brother, Willie Morris of Chipley. Graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. EDT today, Aug. 23, at Piney Grove Cemetery in Chipley, conducted by the Rev. Joe Glass. Interment will follow.

DAVID H. TAYLOR
Mr. David H. (Tinker) Taylor, age 58, of Blountstown, died Monday at Calhoun Liberty Hospital in Blountstown. Mr. Taylor was a lifelong resident of Calhoun County and was employed by Flowers Baking Company until his retirement. Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, Edward and Rita Taylor of Blountstown, Wayne Taylor of Atlanta; two sisters, Annie Gregory of Blountstown and Bernie Hanley of Poway, Calif.; one brother, Houston (Shorty) Taylor of Blountstown; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 5 p.m. CDT in the Chapel of Adams Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Plazarin officiating. Interment will follow in Nettle Ridge Cemetery in Blountstown.

GERTIE CHAVERS JAMES
Gertie Chavers James, 91, of 1009 Frankford Ave., died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, in a local nursing home. She was a homemaker, moving here in 1923 from Milton, Fla. She had been a member of First Baptist Church of Panama City since 1923 and was a 1927 graduate of Bay High School. She was preceded in death by her husband, D.B. James. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Chavers Sowell of Panama City and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Craig Conner and the Rev. Bruce Raley officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Those desiring to may make a contribution to the Memorial Fund of First Baptist Church of Panama City.

THOMAS ROBERT SEWARD
Thomas Robert "Bob" Seward, 72, a resident of Panama City Beach Fla., and a former resident of Slocomb, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at Flowers Hospital following an extended illness. Private graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at Memory Hill Cemetery with Mr. Dan Seward officiating and Byrd Funeral Home directing. Mr. Seward was born April 7, 1928, in Kent Island, Md., and lived the early years of his life there. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Marines. He resided in Glen Rock, Pa., for 15 years before moving to Slocomb in 1989. Mr. Seward was employed as production control manager with Continental Can Company in Baltimore, Md. for thirty years prior to his retirement in 1978. Survivors include his wife, Lois Seward, Panama City Beach; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Barbara Seward of Red Lion, Pa., and Daniel and Dolly Seward of Lowell, Ohio; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Charles Wynkoop of Hartford; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Vernice Black of Kent Island, Md., several nieces and nephews also survive.

JAMES PAUL WHITFIELD SR.
On Aug. 21, 2000, at 3 a.m., our loving father, James Paul Whitfield Sr., 82, went to be with our Lord. He was a member of College Park Church of God, and a veteran of World War II. He is survived by eight children, Clara Whitfield Brown, the Rev. Charles Whitfield, Connie Whitfield Hall, May Whitfield McClamma, James Whitfield Jr., Howard Whitfield, Jeanie Whitfield Collins and Gregory Whitfield; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Viewing will be today, Aug. 24, from 4 to 6 p.m. EDT at Comforter Funeral Home in Port St. Joe. Funeral services will be held at College Park Church of God., in Wewahitcka, Friday, Aug. 25, at 10 a.m. CDT with the Rev. Joe Glass officiating. Interment will follow at Cypress Creek Cemetery in Kinard.

LOUIS FRANKIN CURRY
Louis Frankin Curry, 66, of Chipley, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2000, in Chipley. He was a life long resident of Chipley. He was of the Baptist faith. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 26 at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Brown Funeral Home in Chipley with the Rev. Donnie Hussey officiating. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home Directing. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., August 25 at Brown Funeral Home. He was preceded in death by a son, Frank Curry. He is survived by his wife, Sara Curry of Chipley; son, Billy and wife Wanda Curry of Chipley; sisters, Vera Lusko of Chipley and Vivian Marsh, also of Chipley; grandchildren, Jason and wife Sharon Curry, Shannon Curry and Jenni Curry; great-grandchild, Madison Ann Curry.

NORMA CORE HUMPHREY
Mrs. Norma Core Humphrey, loving mother and friend, 68, of Cataula, Ga., died Tuesday, August 22, 2000, in Columbus, Ga. Mrs. Humphrey was a longtime resident of Wewahitchka and a member of the First Baptist Church of Port St. Joe. She is survived by her two sons, Thomas Allen Humphrey of Cataula and Willie Byron Humphrey and wife Erin of Palm Harbour; daughter, Sheila H. Pickett and husband, Ricky of Cataula; eight grandchildren: T.A. Humphrey II, Joseph Humphrey, Delainya Harris, Kenneth Pickett, Justin Humphrey, Melissa Pickett, Shawn Brining, and Patrick Humphrey; and three great-grandchildren: T.A. Humphrey III, Callie Harris, and Cody Harris. Funeral services for Mrs. Humphrey will be conducted Saturday, August 26 at 10 a.m. EST with the Rev. Brent Vickery officiating. Interment will follow in the Holly Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
