Shirley S. Glenn, 89, of Marianna, died late Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, in the Chipola Nursing Pavilion after an extended illness.

She was born in Kansas and was raised in Ft. Lauderdale through her high school years. She attended the the Florida State College for Women, where she lettered on the varsity swim team. Furthering her education, she attended the University of Michigan and majored in home economics. Shortly after, she was employed as a dietician for the Alachua County Hospital in Gainesville. Moving to Marianna 55 years ago, she was employed as a Jackson County teacher and a member of the Jackson County Teachers Association for over 20 years. She has served with the Pink Ladies of Jackson County Hospital and was Methodist by faith. She enjoyed swimming, crossword puzzles, reading, and loved her husband and children.

Survivors include her devoted husband of 63 years, Woodrow Wilson "Koon Bottom" Glenn of Marianna; children, Carol Prentiss and husband John of Andover, Mich., Steve Glenn and wife LaRhonda of Marianna, and Shirley Ellen Taylor and husband Bill of Tallahassee; grandchildren, Glenn Ames Prentiss, Kimball Prentiss, Dub Taylor, Glenn Taylor, Jess Glenn and Justin Cole Glenn; and great-grandchildren, Campbell Prentiss, Kate Prentiss, Haley Taylor and soon to arrive Baby Taylor.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 2, in the St. Lukes Episcopal Church, with William "Ed" Smith officiating and Markham Funeral Home of Marianna directing.

The family will receive friends after the funeral service at the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Jackson County Public Library at, Friends of the Library 2929 Green Street, Marianna, Fla., 32446; or The Covenant Hospice of Marianna, at 4349 Lafayette Street, Marianna, Fla., 32446.

Markham Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Charles W. Bowlan, 77, of Marianna, Fla., formerly of Memphis, Tenn., passed away Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005, in Marianna.

He retired from Bell South in Memphis. He was a Pioneer with Bell South and a member of Bellevue Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Sarah Bowlan of Marianna; daughter, Linda Pittman of Marianna; son, Mike Bowlan of Memphis; brother, Ron Bowlan of Sommerville, Tenn.; sisters, Margaret Ballard and Helen Edwards of Memphis, and Jean Dollahite of Mt. Home, Ark.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family requests that memorials be sent to the donor's choice of charities. The family will receive visitors from 4 - 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 2, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 3, at 10 a.m., at Memorial Park Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Riley Ryles Alday, 72, of Cypress died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at his home. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at Maddox Chapel with Rev. Jerry Mears officiating. Burial will be in Cypress Cemetery with James and James Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 3, at the funeral home.

Victor Schley Bevis, 99, a well-known farmer and respected business man in Jackson County, died Sept. 28, 2002. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Bascom Methodist Church. Flowers will be accepted or those who wish to may make a contribution to the Bascom Methodist Church, P.O. Box 67, Bascom, FL 32443. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today, Friday, at Lord Funeral Home.

Georgia Ragland, 93, of Graceville died Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 2, 2002, in the Campbellton-Graceville Hospital. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home with Dr. Shirley Dempsey officiating. Burial will be in the Marvin Chapel Cemetery with Williams Funeral Home of Graceville directing. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today, Friday, at the funeral home.

The funeral for Riley Ryles Alday, 72, of Cypress will be held at 2 p.m. today at Maddox Chapel. Burial will be in Cypress Cemetery with James and James Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel directing.

Hayes Lewis Alford, 72, of Dellwood died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at his home. Funeral arrangements will be announced by James and James Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel.

Lois Porter Griffin, 81, of Marianna died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, in Marianna. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Maddox Chapel with Rev. Chuck Woods officiating. Burial will be in Hickory Level Cemetery with James and James Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 4, at the funeral home.

Violet Mitchell Stapleton, 88, of Tallahassee died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, in Tallahassee. A graveside service was held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Roselawn Cemetery in Tallahassee. The family received friends after the service at 520 Short St. Memorial contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308 or to a favorite charity. Culley’s Meadowwood Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Sallie Mae Owens, 75, of Marianna died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at her residence. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sunday, Oct. 6, at Eastside Assembly of God Church with Rev. Jack Howell officiating. Burial will be in Pinecrest Memory Gardens with Lord Funeral Home of Marianna directing. The family received friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The family requests that flowers be omitted and contributions made to Covenant Hospice, 4349 Lafayette St., Building 2, Marianna, FL 32448.

Hall and Kyle Alford officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with James and James Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. today, Sunday, at James and James Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice of Northwest Florida, 4349 Lafayette St., Building 2, Marianna, FL 32448.

Sunil Patel, 52, of Marianna died Friday, Oct. 5, 2002, in Jackson Hospital. The funeral will be held Monday, Oct. 7, at 9 a.m. in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home. Memorialization will be by cremation.

Cleo Long of Greenwood, 61, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at his residence. The funeral will be held Friday, Sept. 27, at 3 p.m. at the Second West Florida Baptist Association Church, 4110 Herring Ave., in Marianna, with Rev. W. M. Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in the Buckhorn Baptist Church Cemetery in Greenwood under the direction of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville. The family will receive friends at the Buckhorn Missionary Baptist Church Thursday, Sept. 26, from 6 to 7 p.m.

Kristopher Shaun Harrell of Grand Ridge, 4, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at Tallahassee Regional Healthcare. The funeral will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, at 3 p.m. CDT at Salem Wesleyan Church with Rev. Sam Swinney officiating. Burial will follow in Cow Pen Pond Cemetery with Lord Funeral Home of Marianna directing. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
