LILLIAN CANTRELL TYREE
Lillian Cantrell Tyree, age 75, of Panama City Beach, Fla., died Oct. 10, 2000. Mrs. Tyree was a native of Flowery Branch, Ga. and was a home maker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Tyree in March of 2000. After her husband's retirement from the U.S. Army, she moved to Panama City Beach, where she resided for 22 years. She was of the Methodist faith and attended Gulf View United Methodist Church in Panama City Beach. Funeral services were held Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Carroll Miller, officiating. Burial followed in Crest Lawn Memorial Park in Atlanta, Ga. Mrs. Tyree was survived by two daughters, Mrs. Beverly Starr of Auburn, Ala., and Mrs. Elaine Snow of Conyers, Ga.; two sons, Mr. Steven Tyree of Panama City Beach and Mr. Ronald Tyree of Evergreen, Colo.; one sister, Mrs. Mildred McKinney of Jacksonville, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.

CABELL CARRINGTON VASSIE SR.
Cabell Carrington Vassie Sr., 83, died peacefully at home,after a brief illness, surrounded by his family on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at 10:50 p.m. He was born April 27, 1917, to John and Mary Florence Vassie in Fitzgerald, Ga., and had graduated from Mulberry High School in 1936. He moved to Bay County in 1936 and lived the rest of his life here. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1944-1946, worked for a number of years at the Panama City Shipyard as a timekeeper, worked for the city of Panama City Fire Dept. in the late 1940s and 1950s where by examination he became the first paid lieutenant in the city's Fire Dept. He then worked for the U.S. Navy at the Naval Coastal Systems Station from 1953-1973 as the assistant fire chief until his retirement. C.C. as he is known to all, was a member of NARFE Chapter 1305 and served as its president for two terms, also past president for AARP. He was one of the charter members of the Panama City Toastmasters and instrumental in starting it here in Bay County. Through Toastmasters, he volunteered in West Bay Elementary School and the Catholic school. He was a member of ACME Lodge No. 222 where he served as worshipful master in 1988-89 and is a perpetual member. He was a member of Scottish Rite and was a charter member of Shaddai Temple where he served as photographic staffer from 1984-88, a member of Past Masters Unit of Shaddai Temple, member of Panama Chapter 102 of Eastern Star, Rush L. Darby Court No. 28. Order of Amaranth serving this year as Deputy Grand Royal Patron of the State of Florida, Jordon Shrine No. 13. Order of White Shrine of Jerusalem. He was a faithful member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church and a member of the Pairs and Squares Sunday School Class. He also enjoyed traveling, working at home on his computer and in his workshop and especially spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Laura Bell Pledger Vassie. He is survived by his second wife of 22 years, Marjorie Rogers Vassie; two sons, C.C. (Butch) Vassie Jr. and his wife Ann, and James Vassie; daughter, Brenda Robertson, her husband Herman and their daughters April and Andrea; granddaughter, Lisa Vassie Reddish and her children Brandon and Brianna; three sisters, Abbie Marie Strickland of Valrico, Fla., Margaret Hall of Lakeland, Fla., and Kathryn Smith and her husband Clyde; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Mary and Bennie Burke, Pelham and Bea Revell, Lewis and Annette Rogers, Mrs. Ruth Helms, Mrs. Anne Steele and Mrs. Jimmy Pledger and many other family members and friends. Funeral services will be held today, Oct. 17, at 2 p.m. in Wilson Funeral Home, with Masonic rites by ACME Lodge No. 222 to follow at the graveside at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Those desiring to may make a contribution to Hiland Park United Methodist Church, Shaddai Temple Transportation Fund or the Diabetic Foundation. The Masonic lodge will open one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Don Van Norman, Charlie Hendricks, J.T. Windham, Willie Wilcox, Sam Fischer and Jerry Blount. Honorary pallbearers are members of Chapter 102 Eastern Star, Rush L. Darby No. 28., Jordan Shrine No. 13, and members of his Sunday school class. A special thanks to these physicians, Hashem Mubarak M.D., Maher Ayoubi M.D., Dilip Purohitt M.D., Dennis Healy M.D., Mutaz Tabbaa M.D., Debra Wilkins P.A., Mohamed Jasser M.D., and nurse Debra Hawkins of Emerald Coast Hospice.

CLARA M. ASBELLE
Mrs. Clara M. Asbelle, 83, a resident of Capital Health Center, Tallahassee, Fla., passed away Oct. 16, 2000. She was born in Lakeland, and was a resident of Port St. Joe for 40 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton E. Asbelle Sr.; and her son, James R. Asbelle Sr. Mrs. Asbelle is survived by one son, Clayton E. Asbelle Jr. and wife Lucy of Mongtgomery, Ala.; three daughters, Eleanor M. Linehan and husband John of Apalachicola, Dorothy A. Koller and husband Jake of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Loyce A. Lanier of Tallahassee; a daughter-in-law, Dianne Asbelle of Montgomery, Ala.; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation will be today, Oct. 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. EDT at Comforter Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 19, at Highland View Baptist Church at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Tom Mangum officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Asbelle's grandsons will serve as pallbearers: Caleb Lanier, Ed Lanier, Scott Koller, Craig Koller, Hughey Williams and Joey Williams. Jerry Wood, Curtis Little, James Little, Walter Graham, Sly Kemp and Robert Montgomery are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers. The Asbelle family will be receiving family and friends at the home of Don and Cindy Ray, 479 Duval St., Oak Grove.

DONALD NELSON BELOW
Donald Nelson Below, 58, of Panama City, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, in a local hospital. He had been a resident of Bay County since October 1974. He was a 1960 graduate of Port Clinton High School and a 1964 graduate of Bowling Green University. He was a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1974 after 27 years of service. He was a veteran of the Vietname War. In 1974 he went to work for the Civil Service Training Squadron of Tyndall Air Force Base where he retired in January 2000. He was a member of Alabama Air National Guard Association. He is survived by a very special friend, Tim Eicher of Panama City; five brothers, David Below and his wife, Amy; Gary Below and his wife, Mary, all of Port Clinton, Ohio; Kenneth Below of El Centro, Calif.; James Below, Richard Below and his wife, Carol, all of Port Clinton, Ohio; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Raley officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m. Those desiring to may make a contribution to the Leukemia Society of America in memory of Donald Below.

LOIS BIRGE
Mrs. Lois Birge, age 84, of 11508 County Line Road, Fountain, Fla., died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at a local hospital. She had been a longtime resident of this area and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. Birge was also a homemaker, a member of Dalkeith Baptist Church and enjoyed yard sales. She is survived by a son, Michael Birge of Fountain; a daughter, Dorothy Horne of Mountain View, Alaska.; two sisters; sister-in-law, Christine Birge and her husband Wayne of Fountain; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Birge was preceded in death by her husband, Quinton Birge. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 19, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ken Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Birge's grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Oct. 18, from 6 to 8 p.m., with services conducted by Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. Anthony Paul Chiodo, age 57, of 1908 Louise Ave., Panama City, Fla., died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at a local hospital. He had been a resident of the area for 40 years, coming here from New York. Mr. Chiodo is survived by his wife, Martha Jane Chiodo of Panama City; sons, Anthony Chiodo Jr. of Fountain, John Chiodo of Bayou George, and Sean Chiodo of Lynn Haven; a daughter, Rhonda C. Newton of Panama City; a sister, Mary Ann Sierra of Orlando, Fla.; a brother, Norman Chiodo Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev.; and four grandchildren, Anthony Chiodo III, Angela Chiodo, Johnathon Chiodo and James Newton III. Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, Oct. 19, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Joe Purl and Kim Purl officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Robert Roney, Charles Roney, Will Cowart, Jimmy Newton, Frank Bell and James Bell. Nathaniel "Daddy Dupree" Hickmon, age 66, of Panama City, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000. Mr. Hickmon was a native of Obrien, Fla., and had lived in Panama City for many years. He was in construction, a member of Greater Praise and Deliverance Apostolic Church and a U.S. Air Force veteran. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 21, at 4 p.m. CDT, in Greater Praise and Deliverance Apostolic Church in Panama City. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery in Panama City. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, at Greater Praise and Deliverance Apostolic Church in Panama City. Survivors include his wife, Bertha Lee Murray Hickmon of Panama City; son, Prophet L. Mrs. Therisa Delores Meeks Paul, 40, of Babby Lane, Panama City, Fla., formerly of Villa Rica, Ga., passed away, Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000. Mrs. Meeks was a member of Central Baptist Church in Panama City and was employed as a Motel Desk Clerk. She was preceded in death by one brother, Hubert Sidney Meeks. Survivors include her parents, Nancy Matthews Meeks and Hubert Meeks, both of Panama City; brothers, Charles Wayne Meeks of Panama City and Robert Steven Meeks of MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla; grandmother, Mrs. Clara Matthews of Mableton; her companion and his daughter, Doug and Crystal Rose of Panama City; a number of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted today, Oct. 18, at 2 p.m., from the Chapel of Jone-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica with the Rev. Burman Cape and the Rev. Bryan Haney officiating. Musical selections will be rendered by Harold Meeks. Interment will follow in Bethany Christian Cemetery on Hwy. 61 North near Dallas in Paulding County with the Rev. Tony Collins officiating.

Mr. Bobby L. Alford, age 68, of 801 Sanders Lane, Springfield, Fla., died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at a local hospital. He had been a resident of the area for 30 years, coming here from Montgomery, Ala. Mr. Alford served his country in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years active duty during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam Era. He is survived by his wife, Alma L. Alford of Springfield; a daughter, Barbara Alford Sigmon of Granite Falls, N.C.; a son, Michael Robert Alford of Fountain, Fla.; five grandchildren, John David Alford, Brian Cook, Jason Cook, Christina Schroff and Kayla Schroff; a sister, Winifred Short of Kississimee, Fla.; and three brothers, James Alford of Tallahassee, Fla., Gerald Alford of Lake City, Fla., and Donald Alford of Live Oak, Fla. Mr. Alford was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Dianne Alford Thomas. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 20, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel.
