Mrs. Virginia Owens of Port St. Joe, passed away Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, in Gainesville. Mrs. Owens was born in Gainesville and had been a longtime resident of Port St. Joe. Virginia was a charter member of the St. James Episcopal Church and of St. Joseph Bay Charter of DAR. She was the first woman member of the Board of Directors of Gator Boosters. Survivors include her nieces and nephews: D.L. "Bo Bo" Owens and his wife Betty Ann of Wewahitchka, Sue James and husband Wilbur, John James and Virginia Dolder, all of Gainesville, Barbara Fraser of Jacksonville, and Susanna Stuart of Palm Coast. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at 1 p.m. EST at St. James Episcopal Church, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Huft. Internment will follow in the family plot in Holly Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Vestry members of St. James Episcopal Church. At her request, there will be no viewing or visitation. ROBERTA CALDWELL PEAVY
Roberta Caldwell Peavy of Panama City Beach, passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at her home. Born in Chicago, Ill., she was raised in Columbus, Miss. She moved to Panama City in 1995 from Dothan, Ala. She served as an Army wife for 19 years before retiring in Dothan. Following this, she worked as the first director of the Women's Division at City National Bank of Dothan before opening and operating Travel Agents International of Dothan. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dothan. Mrs. Peavy is survived by her husband, Lt. Col. Jack D. Peavy, U.S. Army (ret.); daughter, Sharon Whatley and son-in-law Gavin Whatley, and their sons, Benjamin and Ryan Whatley, all of Dothan; daughter, Nancy Austin and son-in-law William Austin of Birmingham, Ala. The family will receive friends at a visitation to be held on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Southerland Family Funeral Homes in Panama City. HOWARD CLIFTON ABBOTT
Mr. Howard Clifton Abbott, age 81, of 10821 Las Vegas St., Youngstown, Fla., passed away at his home Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000. Mr. Abbott had been a resident of Bay County since 1954, coming here from Alabama. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, retired from International Paper Company and Southwest Forrest Industries and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Abbott is survived by two daughters, Jewell A. Hance of Youngstown, Fla., and Barbara A. Brown of Valdosta, Ga.; three sons, H.A. "Sonny" Abbott of Panama City Beach, Larry N. Abbott of Lake Merrill, Fla., and Clifton Charles Abbott of Tallahassee; one sister, June Main of Hanceville, Ala.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Mr. Abbott was preceded in death by his wife, Bulah "Boots" Abbott, four brothers, and three sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 21at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, with interment following at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

STANTON BARRETT
Stanton Barrett, son of Eudell and Alice Barrett, was born Oct. 19, 1914, in Panama City, Fla. He graduated from Bay High School and attended Rollins College. His early work career included the paper mill, the Army Air Corps, Ford Motor Co. and a control tower in Newark, N.J. From there he went to New York where he sang Schubert operettas on Broadway. In 1946, he with his young wife moved back to Panama City. At that time, he was an artist illustrator at Tyndall Field. Later, he decided he wanted to build fine homes, which he did for many, many years. His interests included tennis, playing golf with his wife (who states he loved the competition). He loved to grow a big garden and would give away so many vegetables to friends and neighbors; even at times supplying the Rescue Mission with vegetables. On Nov. 19, 2000, he left behind a loving family of wife, Kathryn Barrett; children: Janice Sharp (Ed), Diane White (Jim), and Carol Wright (Bob); grandchildren, Ron Bennett, Danielle Bennett, Joe Sharp, Kathy Yamagada, Shana Barrett, Cedar Starr Barrett, Laura Gower, Cheryl Ruggieri and Heather Pickard. His son, Frank Barrett was promoted to glory in 1984. Stanton was Baptist by faith. He loved the Lord and loved to tell others of his savior. He was a great man and he will be missed. The family would like to say thank you to Dr. Tedtaotao, his wonderful Christian doctor. The family will welcome friends at the family home.

ROSA LEE BYRD
Mrs. Rosa Lee Byrd, 89, of 1002 Harris Ave., died Wednesday, Nov. 15, in the Bay Medical Center. Mrs. Rosa Lee Byrd was born on March 27, 1911, in Dothan, Ala., to the late Della and Julius Whitehead. She was the sixth of 12 children. She was united in holy matrimony to Mr. William Arthur Byrd, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Delphine Murry; two sisters, Addye B. Colvin and Bessie Williams; one niece, Vivian Williams; and one nephew, Ellis Williams Jr. She was a member of the Stewardess and Missionary and formerly served in the Pastor's Aid Club. Mrs. Byrd leaves to cherish her memory three stepsons, the Rev. Dr. Elton T. (Louberta) Byrd of Willingborough, N.J., William E. (Minnie) Byrd of Pensacola and the Rev. Milton A. (Gloria) Byrd of Roselle, N.J.; two stepdaughters, Maurice E. (Charles) Sizer of Dublin, Ga., and Merial Jean Byrd of Panama City; one sister, Beatrice Jackson of Panama City; two nieces, Mary (Charles) Ford of Newark, N.J., and Joi Oubr‚ of West Los Angeles, Calif.; and a devoted friend, Phyllis Pennywell. She is also loved and is lovingly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends too numerous to mention but not forgotten. Funeral services for Mrs. Byrd will be held today, Nov. 21, 2000, at 11 a.m. in the Greater Bethel AME Church with the Rev. O.C. Williams, pastor and the Rev. Dr. Elton T. Byrd performing the eulogy. Internment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. The remains will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church.

James Lamar Faison of Port St. Joe, passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000. He was born on Oct. 25, 1928, in Crenshaw County, Ala., and had been a resident of Port St. Joe since 1955. Mr. Faison was a member of First United Methodist Church, a veteran of the Korean conflict, and a graduate of Troy State University. He was a coach and teacher in the Gulf County school system for 35 years. Mr. Faison is survived by his wife, Joyce S. Faison; one daughter, Brenda Joyce Faison of Dozier, Ala.; one son, James Bruce Faison of Port St. Joe, Fla.; grandchildren, Leslie A. and James P. Mr. Hollie "Bo" Lee McDonald III, age 48, of Panama City Beach, Fla., passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at his home. He was a native of Richmond County, N.C. and had lived in Panama City for 15 years, moving here from West Palm Beach, Fla. Mr. McDonald worked with his father installing irrigations systems and was also a painter and carpenter. He is survived by his mother, Margaret McDonald of Panama City Beach, Fla.; three sisters, Terri Kelly and her husband Richard of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Kim Deland Thompson and her husband Dr. Kerry Thompson of Savannah, Ga., and Gay Lynn McDonald and Chauncey Kan of Panama City Beach; aunt and uncle, Eloise and Johnny Dillard of Panama City Beach; nephews, Brent Edwards and Tyler Deland; nieces, Amber Kelly, Ashlee Kelly, Brittnee Lee McDonald and Breana Kopko; and special cousins, Russell "Cuz" Dillard and Dean Dillard. Mr. Fred Ward, 86, of Oak Grove, passed away Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at his home, following an extended illness. He was a native of Alabama and had been a longtime resident of Oak Grove. He was a retired commercial fisherman and owner/operator of Ward's Fishery at Simmons Bayou. Mr. Ward is survived by his daughter, Trudy Pate of Oak Grove; one sister, Mae Hicks of Highland View; one sister-in-law, Dot Ward of Simmons Bayou; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mario Rafael Cardona, 43, of Panama City, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000. He was a native of Bogota Colombia, South America, and had been living in Panama City for the past 14 years. He had served in the United States Army. The family has requested memorialization by cremation.

Frank Ronald Daniels, 72, of Panama City, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at his home. He was born in Pensacola, Fla., and moved to Panama City in 1931. He was a 1947 graduate of Bay High School. Mr. Daniels served in the U.S. Army and Air Force during the Korean conflict. He was a retired self-employed machinist. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Daniels. He is survived by two sons, John Daniels and his wife, Linda, Jack Daniels and his wife, Vickie all of Panama City; daughter, Joy Powell and her husband, Chris of Linden, N.C.; five grandchildren, John F. Mrs. Dorothy Hinkle, age 69, of Southport, Fla., went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at a local hospital. She was a native and lifelong resident of Southport, a homemaker and a member of Southport First Assembly of God Church. Mrs. Hinkle is survived by her husband, Ora Hinkle of Southport; her children, Tanya Griffin and her husband Roy of Atlanta, Ga., Tony Hinkle and his wife Marsha of Southport, Terri Thomas and her husband Tony of Panama City, and Jonathan Hinkle of Southport; brothers: James Glass and his wife Hortense, Kenneth Glass and his wife Lottie, and the Rev. Mrs. Evelyn E. Lee, 70, 331 N. MacArthur, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at Bay Medical Center. Mrs. Lee was born July 22, 1930, in Alabama. She and her husband, Harold M. Lee, a lifelong resident of Panama City, had observed their 44th wedding anniversary. He operates the "Capt. Lee" for charter fishing and Mrs. Lee was retired from Captain Anderson's Excursions. Mrs. Lee loved to sing and play the piano at her church. She was an active member of Dayspring Assembly of Springfield. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Bill Salter of Odessa, Texas, and Dorthea (Dottie) and Ricky Williams of Fountain; and three sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Mary Jackson of Grand Isle, La., Mitchell and Suzy Jackson of Bonifay, and Buddy Lee of Panama City. Also surviving are a sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and E. H.
