HENRY SPIRES
Mr. Henry Spires, 86, of 1342 Lincoln Drive, passed away in a local nursing facility Friday, Dec. 29, 2000. Born in Jackson County, Fla., he had been a resident of Panama City for many years, having moved here from Bonifay, Fla. He received his education in the public schools of Holmes County. He was a member of St. John Baptist Church, operated a taxi cab service in Panama City, and he was employed at Tyndall Air Force Base until his retirement in 1977. He was well-known throughout the county for his helpful and gentle ways of serving the public. Two children preceded him in death, a daughter, Nellie Spires Allen and a son, Henry Earl Spires. He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife of forty-nine years, Mrs. Lady Ethel Spires of Panama City; children: Tommy L. (Tammy) Spires of Picayune, Miss., Laura Johnson and Janie Carter of Panama City, and Linda Smith of Gainesville, Fla.; one brother, William Spires of Panama City; two sisters, Ida M. Spires and Anna O. Phillips of Bonifay, Fla.; a son-in-law, Raymond Allen Sr., of Daytona Beach, Fla.; grandchildren: Sharon Isaac (Lloyd) Sanders of Orlando, Melody Johnson of Tallahassee, Claude (Cassandra) Johnson Jr., of Atlanta, Ga., Terrence Johnson of Panama City, Raymond (Marie) Allen Jr., of Fort Bragg, N.C., Tommy Spires Jr., of Picayune, Miss., Charles Kenneth Spires of Springfield, Ohio, Ronald Simmons of Dallas, Texas, Sarah Davis, Cavarious Davis and Anthony Johnson of Panama City, Calvin (Angie) Johnson and Lady Ethel (Sloan) James of Tallahassee; forty-four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services for Mr. Spires will be held Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at 1 p.m. at St. John Baptist Church with the Rev. L.P. Davis Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church two hours prior to the funeral service. The Family will receive relatives and friends at 1342 Lincoln Drive.

JACK B. 'BLACK JACK' STANLEY
Mr. Jack B. "Black Jack" Stanley, 67, of Springfield, Fla., died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, in a local medical center. He moved here in 1972 from Ocala, Fla., and was retired from the U.S. Air Force where he worked with Air Rescue. He was also a member of AMVETS 2298 in Callaway. Mr. Stanley is survived by his wife, Gladys G. Stanley of Springfield; three sons: Lance Stanley and wife Renee of Lynn Haven, Leroy Smith and wife Jan of Youngstown and Ricky Smith and wife Kate of Niceville; three daughters: Sandy Curti and husband Peter of Parker, Jacqueline Dickson and husband Ken of Missouri, and Serina Junger and husband Scott of Lynn Haven; fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Jack's home today, Jan. 5. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, Jan. 6, at 2 p.m. in Southerland Funeral Home Chapel. Following the service friends may visit with the family at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Serina and Scott Junger in Lynn Haven. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Mr. Stanley.

EULA W. VICKERY
Eula W. Vickery, 88, of Alford, died Thursday morning, Jan. 4, 2001, in Jackson Hospital. Born in Washington County, she was a lifelong resident of this area, retired from the Food Service Department at Sunland. She was a member of the Alford Senior Citizens and the Cypress Creek Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Perlan Vickery. She is survived by three sons: Leroy Vickery and his wife Jean of Marianna, James Vickery and his wife Ann of Chipley, and Lonzo Vickery of Alford; two daughters and sons-in-law, Emma and Jack Reynolds of Alford and Edna and Winfred Rister of Dallas, Texas; two brothers, Floyd Walters of Alford and John Walters of Black, Ala.; one sister, Lula Kent of Alford; seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Cypress Creek Church with the Rev. George Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Alford City Cemetery with James and James Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Cypress Creek Church.

BARBARA R. WIMBERLEY
Mrs. Barbara R. Wimberley, age 82, of Rockledge, Fla., died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at the home of her daughter, Barbara W. Turner, in Bayou George. She was retired from the Brevard County Sheriff's Dept. and had lived in Bayou George for the past five years. Mrs. Wimberley is survived by three daughters: Lee Hackenberg and her husband Dave of Bowie, Md., Bobbie Turner and her husband Colt of Panama City, and Pat Marchetti and her husband Ron of Merritt Island, Fla.; a sister, Yvonne Antalek and her husband Louie of Rockledge, Fla.; a brother, Ralph Ramsey of Argyle, Texas; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. today, Jan. 5, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Floyd Wright officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Respite Center at the Council on Aging, 1116 Frankford Ave., Panama City, FL 32401 or to the Alzheimers Foundation.

GRADY WILSON
Mr. Grady Wilson, age 68, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at a local hospital. A native of Walker Co., Ga., he had lived in Panama City for 15 years, coming here from Sanford, Fla. He retired after 30 years service with the Bell Telephone System as a cable repairman. Mr. Wilson was a member of Central Baptist Church and the Telephone Pioneers organization. He enjoyed collecting old bottles and jars and loved flowers and gardening. Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife of 22 years, Sybil Wilson of Panama City; his children: Sherry Wilson of Sanford, Fla., Ginger McMurray and her husband Fred of Punta Gorda, Fla., Michael Grady Wilson and his wife Charlotte of Holland, Penn., Faye Darst and her husband Emerson of Lake City, Fla., and Ron Jones of Panama City; two brothers, Bill Wilson of Lafayette, Ga., and La Dell Wilson of Rossville, Ga.; two sisters, Geneva Everett of Cartersville, Ga., and Imogene Merritt of Ringgold, Ga.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 5, at Garden of Memories with the Rev. John Barton officiating. Interment will follow. Mrs. Meda Woodham, age 79, of 4402 DeLen Dr., Panama City, Fla., died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at a local nursing facility. She had been a resident of the area for 65 years, coming here from Chipley, Fla. Mrs. Woodham was a member of Springfield Community Church and she loved people. She is survived by her daughter, Annette Devilbiss and her husband James of Panama City; sons: Lamar Woodham and his wife Frances of Monroe, La., and Jimmy Woodham and his wife Linda and Keith Woodham and his wife Shauna, all of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Fleta Worley of Panama City; grandchildren: Teresa Franklin and her husband Kenny, Jack Devilbiss, Rick Woodham, Steve Woodham, Melissa Curley, Brenda Roach, Debbie Bruce, Tiffany Woodham, Austin Woodham, Ryan Woodham, Brittany Woodham, and Lacey Woodham; step-grandchildren: Larry Carter, Gail Walker, Sherie Hensen, and Ray Sharp. and fourteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 5, at Springfield Community Church with the Rev. J.W. Hunt and the Rev. Bobby Thompson officiating. Funeral services for Carmen Jeanette Spann Bishop, 88, of 1105 South Floral Avenue, Bartow, Fla., who died Dec. 29, 2000, in Bartow ,will be Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at 3 p.m. in the C.C. Moore Chapel at First Baptist Church of Panama City, with the Rev. Bruce Raley officiating. Interment will be in Parker Cemetery. Mr. Sam B. Holmes, 78, of Vernon, passed away Jan. 3, 2001, in the N.W.F.C.H. in Chipley. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., today, Jan. 6, at St. Luke A.M.E. Church Vernon with the Rev. Jerome Goodman, Bishop Richard Jenkins Sr., Min. John C. Jackson, and Min. Eli Andrews officiating. Interment will follow in St. Luke Memorial Garden Cemetery near Ebro with Cooper Funeral Home of Chipley directing. The remains will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. this morning until time for the services at 11 a.m.

WILLIAM R. HARVEY
Mr. William R. Harvey, age 47, of Panama City Beach, FL, passed away Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at a local hospital. He was a native of Medford, Ore. and lived at Panama City Beach for 15 years. Mr. Harvey was Protestant by faith and enjoyed painting and ceramics. He is survived by his mother, Frank Ann Harvey of Panama City Beach; a brother, Robert Harvey of Panama City Beach; an uncle, Howard Hollis of Panama City Beach; aunts, Bessie Young of Panama City Beach and Nell Young of Panama City, and Margaret Aplin of Newton, Ala.; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas William Harvey. Graveside funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 6 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with with his cousin, Nancy Sheffield officiating. Interment will follow.

Mr. Harvey Lee Howard, age 77, of 2300 N. Sherman Ave., Panama City, Fla., passed away Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at a local nursing facility. He was a native of the Panama City area and was Pentecostal by faith. Mr. Howard enjoyed being with his family. He is survived by a daughter, Barabra Capps and her husband Spencer of Land-O-Lakes, Fla.; a brother, Earlie Howard and his wife Annie of Panama City; a sister, Elva Lee Mead of Houston, Texas; granddaughters, Barbie West and her husband Danny of Springhill, Fla. and Margie Lynn Cook and her husband Peter of Wilkesboro, N.C.; great-grandsons: Darrell Fitzgerald, Joey Hunt, and Jeffrey Hunt, all of Springhill, Fla.; a great-granddaughter, Samantha Cook of Wilkesboro, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 7 at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J. W. Hunt officiating. Interment will follow at Millville Cemetery. Mr. Bill J. Morris, age 78, of 14204 Big Island Pond Rd., Southport, Fla., died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at a local hospital. He had been a resident of the area for 53 years, coming here from DeFuniak Springs, Fla. Mr. Morris served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II and was Protestant by faith. He is survived by his five daughters, Barbara Loftin and her husband Tommy of Sandhills, Fla.; Sherry Lowrey of Panama City; Sylvia Bush and her husband Michael of Bradenton, Fla.; Sandra Chipman and her husband Jack and Martha Kay Guidry and her husband Michael, all of Panama City; a son, Billy Ray Morris, and his wife Joyce of Sandhills; two sisters, Doris Green of Lynn Haven and Helen Sharon of Wewahitchka; fourteen grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Lenora Morris. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 8, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Curtis Kent officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Chad Morris, Kevin Loftin, Brad Loftin, Chicko Lowrey, Jason Lowrey, and Daniel Morris.
