Robert Brandt "Robby" Whitehorn, 47, of Panama City, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000. He was a native of Washington, D.C., but was a lifelong resident of Panama City. He was a graduate of Bay High School and Gulf Coast Community College. He worked as a radiologic technologist. He was a naturalist and enjoyed antique collecting. Robby was an accomplished guitartist and musician. He will be missed dearly by his loving father, friends and family. He was preceded in death by his elder brother, Clark Whitehorn Jr.; and also his mother, Virginia B. Whitehorn. He is survived by his loving father, Dr. Clark Whitehorn, of Panama City; his loving son, Clark Whitehorn III of Lynn Haven; and by his fiance, Denise Nyland of Panama City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to charities of choice, or the Partners in Hope, St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital, Box 501, St. Judes Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to Feed the Children, Box 36, Oklahoma City, OK 73101. Memorial services for Robby will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, in the Greenroom of the Martin Theatre, 409 Harrison Avenue in Panama City.

DOROTHY WYNELL BRANNING
Mrs. Dorothy Wynell Branning, 79, of 118 Marin Drive in Panama City, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at her residence. She was a native of Jackson County, Fla., and had lived in Panama City for 50 years. She was retired from Sears, Roebuck and Co., after more than 30 years of service. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Golden Age Sunday School Class. She was a volunteer with the Bay Medical Center Auxiliary and a member of the Panama City Woman's Club. She is survived by two daughters, Janice Branning Hamm of Panama City, and Delores Branning Byers and husband, James W. Byers of Palm Harbor, Fla.; her grandchildren: James W. Byers Jr., Tommy Earl Hamm II, Tracy Ann Hamm and Suzanne Delores Byers; her great-grandchildren: David Tyler Koenig, Bailey Hamm, Tommy Earl Hamm III and Jessica Baldwin; one brother, C.J. Porter and wife, Leola of Chipley; three sisters: Emma Mae Tice and husband, Tommie of Marianna, Erma Earl Lane and husband, L.T. of Panama City, and Sybil Compton of Chipley; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Porter of Campbellton, Fla. She was also survived by special friends and caregivers: Coaleen Booth and Mable Hart. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathan and Gussie Porter; her husband, John T. Branning; her grandson, Craig Alan Byers; her brother, Woodrow Porter; and a brother-in-law, Bobby Compton. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 8, 2001. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Tommy Hamm II, James Byers Jr., Roy Conrad, Andy Compton, Stanley Porter, James Edward Tice, Jerry Tice, Thomas Earl Lane and Eddie Tice. Honorary pallbearers will include: Sears retirees, and members of Bay Medical Auxiliary, Panama City Woman's Club and the Golden Age Sunday School Class. MARY EMMA DUCE
Mary Emma Duce, 88, of Marianna, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at her daughter's residence. She was born on Dec. 30, 1912 at Two Egg, Fla., and lived in Jackson County all her life. She and her husband enjoyed their farm life in the Lovedale-Two Egg Community. Mrs. Duce was of the Baptist faith and a retiree of Florida State Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, E.E. "Bill" Duce; her parents, Tony and Lula Allen Horne; one brother, Wilton Horne; brother-in-law, Robert Moline; and one grandson, Mark Moline. Survivors include two daughters, Elsie Moline of Marianna, and Ruth King and her husband, Newt of Marianna; two sons, Gayle "Ed" Duce and wife, Patsy of Jacksonville Beach, and Donnie Duce and wife, Delores of Sneads; a sister-in-law, Margaret Miller of Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Lord Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Adolph Phares officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Freewill Baptist Cemetery in Dellwood with Lord Funeral Home of Marianna directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 9 p.m. Mrs. Duce will be greatly missed by her family and friends. ADDIE LORRAINE HUGHES
Mrs. Addie Lorraine Hughes, 80, of 5405 Pine Tree Road in Panama City, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Bay Crest Nursing Center after a brief illness. Born in Olla, La., Mrs. Hughes moved here in 1939 from Ozark, Ala., with her husband, T.J. Hughes. Mr. Hughes died in 1989. Mrs. Hughes was a homemaker and an active, longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church. "Miss Lorraine," as she was lovingly called by members of the church, is survived by four daughters and their families: Joan H. Barker and husband, Jerry of Conyers, Ga., Edith H. Smith and husband, Larry of Sarasota, Fla., Wanda H. Snuggs of Vienna, Va., and Sharon H. Whitaker and husband, Lomax of Panama City; six grandchildren: Phillip Barker of Acworth, Ga., Missy B. Waters and husband, Frank of Athens, Ga., Deanna S. Keithly and husband, David of Maitland, Fla., Christopher Smith and wife, Michelle of Lafayette, Calif., Kevin Whitaker of Gainesville, Fla., and Keith Whitaker and wife, Neccie of Panama City; nine great-grandchildren: Lauren Whitaker, Kayla and Scott Whitaker, Margaret and Annie Smith, Billy and Tommy Waters, Gregory and Valerie Keithly; and one brother, Ted Eubanks of Dayton, Texas. Two grandsons, Darryl Barker and Rob Snuggs preceded Mrs. Hughes in death. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today, Jan. 8, 2001, at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Floyd Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and granddaughters. Honorary pallbearers include members of the Ladies Progressive Class at Trinity United Methodist Church, and her care givers from the Hospice of Northwest Florida and Bay Crest Nursing Center. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or to Hospice of Northwest Florida.

THOMAS PATRICK SMITH
Thomas P. "Tom or Tommy" Smith, 22, of 1394 Benebola Road in Gordo, Ala., and recently of 1716 Paddock Club Drive in Panama City Beach, died suddenly on Jan. 5, 2001. He was a graduate of Gordo H.S., attended Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn., and was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Tom was a 2000 graduate of Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City. An avid and accomplished drummer, he had a lifelong interest in music and photography. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandfather, Harold E. Smith of El Dorado, Ark.; and his grandfather, Glenn H. Leise of Orlando, Fla. Tom, an only child, is survived by his parents, Dr. Harold E. and Lisa Smith of Panama City Beach, and Diann Corr of Gordo, Ala.; his grandparents, June Smith Hornor and her husband Curtis of Springdale, Ark., Blanton and Barbara Corr of Gordo, and Betsy Leise of Orlando; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in El Dorado, Springdale, Ark., Tuscaloosa, Ala., Savannah, Ga., and Orlando. The family will receive friends this evening, Jan. 8, 2001, at the Skelton Funeral Home, 2105 2nd Street S.W., Reform, Ala. The funeral will be Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at the Skelton Funeral Home. Memorial services for William Thomas "Bill" Whitacre, 74, of Panama City, who died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, in a local hospital, will be held today at 11 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Father Marty Bratek officiating. Internment will be in the Roseland Park Cemetery, Berkley, Mich., at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Anchorage Children's Home or the Bay County Humane Society in memory of Bill Whitacre.

FRANK M. BORDEN
Mr. Frank M. Borden, age 46, of Panama City, passed away Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at his home. He was a native of New York, and had lived in Panama City for 10 years, moving here from New Jersey. He was Catholic by faith, and loved to shoot pool and go camping. Survivors include his daughter, Heather Borden and Sean Thompson of Panama City; a son, Jason Borden of Fort Pierce; Susan Borden of Fort Pierce; his mother, Margaret MacNeill of Panama City; three sisters, Margaret Borden of Panama City; Katherine Borden of Jersey City, N.J., and Francine Sigro of Woodbridge, N.J; and three grandchildren. Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

ANN CARROLL KENNEY BOWEN
Ann Bowen of Panama City Beach, Fla., died at her residence on Jan. 8, 2001. She is survived by her sons, Charles W. Bowen and wife Tobbie of Panama City Beach, and Mike Bowen and wife Sandy of Panama City Beach, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bowen was employed for 34 years as an executive secretary to both state and national officials of the Communications Worker's of America, C.W.A., in Atlanta, Ga., Greensboro, N.C., and Washington, D.C. She retired to Panama City in 1984. Mr. Bowen was a member of St. Thomas by the Sea Episcopal Church on Panama City Beach. She was an active member of the Democratic Party, having held posts as a State of Georgia governor pro-tem and a membership to the inauguration team for President Jimmy Carter. Mrs. Bowen was a frequent volunteer to the local Council on Aging, as well as many other civic and charitable organizations. Her talents and compassions as a leader, a volunteer and a mother and grandmother will be deeply missed. Services will be held Thursday, Jan. 11, at Arthur Bowick Funeral Home in Monroe, Ga., with graveside services to follow at Hill Haven Memory Gardens.

ALBERT HUGH CUMBEE SR.
Albert Hugh Cumbee Sr., 70 of Parker, Fla., died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, in his home. He had been a resident of Bay County since 1967, moving here from California. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and the Vietname War, retiring in 1969 as a technical sergeant. He then went to work as a supervisor for St. Joe Telephone Company, retiring in 1989. Mr. Cumbee is survived by his wife, Mary Ruth Cumbee of Parker, Fla.; son, Albert H. Cumbee Jr. and his wife Laura of Cartersville, Ga.; daughter, Gail Barnhardt and her husband John of Lexington, N.C.; sister, Virginia Britt of Panama City; and four grandchildren, Brian Cumbee, Randall Cumbee, Ryan Barnhardt and Cole Barnhardt. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Jack Reece officiating. Graveside services will be Thursday at 11:45 a.m. in Fort Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, Fla. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m.

VERSIE ETHEL DANIELS
Mrs. Versie Ethel Daniels, age 87, of Kinard, Fla., died Sunday night, Jan. 7, 2001, at Bay Medical Center in Panama City. Mrs. Daniels was born in Gulf County and had lived in Calhoun County for most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Cypress Creek Baptist Church in Kinard. Survivors include three sons and daughers-in-law, F.M. and Brenda Daniels of Panama City, Clifford and Bea Daniels of Marianna, Doyal and Charlotte Daniels of Kinard; four daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and Roy Douglas of Vernon, Bertie and Claude McGill of Kinard, Ruby and Joe Barlow of Panama City, Joyce and Donald R. Vickery of Chipley; two sisters, Bessie Smith and Wewahitchka, Essie DesMoines of Staten Island, N.Y.; 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 2 p.m. CST from Cypress Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Julian Douglas and the Rev. Phil Daniels officiating. Interment will follow in Cypress Creek Cemetery in Kinard. The family will receive friends tonight, Jan. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Peavy Funeral Home.

ADA CLAIRE NICHOLS DAVIS
Ada Claire Nichols Davis, of Wewahitchka, Fla., went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at 8:35 a.m. CST on Monday, Jan. 8, 2001. She was born at her family home in Jackson County, Fla., on June 18, 1927. She had been a resident of Wewahitchka, Fla., since Dec. 18, 1950. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Andrew Lamar Davis of Wewahitchka; and by her three children, Lewana Davis Patterson of Port St. Joe, Ross Nichols (Nicky) Davis of White City, and William (Bill) Lamar Davis of Tallulah, La. She is also survived by six grandchildren; her brother, William Ross Nichols of Lovedale, Fla.; and her sister, Annie Clyde Nichols Hall of Wewahitchka. Visitation will be at Westside Baptist Church, Wewahitchka, today, Jan. 9, between the hours of 4 and 6 p.m. CST. The funeral service will be at Westside Baptist Church at 1 p.m. CST on Wednesday, Jan. 10, with interment to follow at the Methodist Cemetery in Dellwood, Fla., at 4 p.m. CST.
