Doris Jean Welborn Cleveland
Doris Jean Welborn Cleveland, 84, of Chipley, passed away on Oct. 1, 2007, at the Washington Rehab & Nursing Center in Chipley.
Ms. Cleveland was born in Hart County, Ga., in 1923. Ms. Cleveland retired in 1987 from Sunland Training Center in Marianna, after 14 years of service where she worked as a training instructor. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chipley. She worked at Head Start as a teacher's aide and had a variety of jobs over the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, slain police officer, Hugh Dorsey Cleveland; her grandson, Kevin Williams of Chipley; and her siblings, Faye Welborn Bobo and Mack Welborn.
Mrs. Cleveland is survived by her sons, Hugh E. Cleveland (Mary) of Cantonment, and Thomas E. Cleveland of Brunswick, Ga.; daughters, Camellia C. Williams of Pensacola, Patricia J. Cleveland of Morris, Ala., and Jan C. Morris of Hartwell, Ga.; grandchildren, Renea' Stephens of Whitesboro, Texas ; Linda Andrews of Santa Clara, Utah; Brian Morris of Sarasota, Kelley Drew of Georgia, and Carrie Morris of Saint Petersburg; step-grandchildren, Mickey Hornsby (Beverly), Cindy Cascone (Paul) and Randy Hornsby (Lynn), all of Cantonment; and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be at the First Baptist Church in Chipley today, Oct. 3, at 2:30 p.m. Visitation will be in the church sanctuary at 1:30 p.m., one hour prior to the service. The family will be at Ms. Cleveland's home Wednesday evening at 743 Gilbert Drive in Chipley.
Graveside service and burial will be Friday morning at Elmhurst Cemetery
in Elberton, Ga., with the Elberton Police Department officiating.

Rev. Perley G. Safford
Rev. Perley G. Safford, 88, of Marianna, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, in Marianna.
He was a native of Maine, but came to Florida in 1946, while serving in the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of Stetson University in Deland, and had been a Southern Baptist Pastor for over 50 years in Central Florida.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Slone Safford, in February 2007.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Safford King and husband the Rev. Lonnie King of Marianna, and Faith Wasserkrug of Hemet, Calif.; one son, the Rev. Richard D. Safford and wife Vernette of Port Aransas, Texas ; two brothers, Frank Safford of Jacksonville, and Kenneth Safford of Manchester, N.H.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Eastside Baptist Church, with Dr. Steve Canada, the Rev. Richard Safford and the Rev. Lonnie King officiating. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, with military honors by Sneads American Legion Post 241. James and Sikes Funeral Home - Maddox Chapel will direct.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church. Contributions may be made to the Eastside Baptist Church Building Fund or The Florida Baptist Children's Home.
Myrtle G. Howard
The funeral service for Myrtle G. Howard will be conducted at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 3, at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Alliance. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery.

Raymond Harris, Jr.
Raymond Harris, Jr., 75, of Marianna, departed this life peacefully on Oct. 1, 2007.
He was a lifelong resident of Marianna. He served four years during the Korean Conflict while in the the U.S. Air Force. He most recently worked for Sunland Training Center as a purchasing agent.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Trudie Marie Harris.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey Harris of Marianna; one son, James Jones and wife Bonnie of Grand Ridge; four daughters, Ann McDaniel and husband, W.C. of Sneads, Mary Sanders and husband Robert of Daleville, Ala., Wanda Whiddon of Sneads, and Sharon Frey and husband Kevin of Wetumpka, Ala.; three brothers, Howard Harris of Marianna, Wayne Harris of Cypress, and Jimmy Bennett of Marianna; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Randy McDaniel, Jason Jones, Jamey Jones, Shawn Powell, Jimmy Stewart Jr., Darren Sanders and Blake Sanders.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 4, at Maddox Chapel, with the Rev. William Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery
in Marianna with military honors by Sneads American Legion Post 241. James and Sikes Funeral Home - Maddox Chapel will be directing.

Shelvie Jean Hornsby Oswalt
Shelvie Jean Hornsby Oswalt, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, went to be present with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sept. 27, 2007.
She was born Oct. 21, 1938, in Tallassee, Ala. in Tallapoosa County, the daughter of James W. and P. Gertrude Hornsby. She was a graduate of Reeltown High School and William Carey College. She had been a resident of Graceville, since 1991 when her husband became vice president for academic affairs at the Baptist College of Florida.
Over the past 40 years, she served with her husband at churches in Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia and Florida. She also ministered with him at William Carey College (Hattiesburg, Miss.) and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
She was a homemaker, taught at Ganus Elementary School (New Orleans, La.) and worked for the Alabama Baptist Convention (Montgomery, Ala.). The funeral service will be at 2 p.m., today, Sept. 30, at the Damascus Baptist Church, with Dr. Jerry Windsor officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with James and Lipford Funeral Home of Graceville directing.

Mary L. Green Capps
Mary L. Green Capps, 85, of Marianna died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, at Jackson Hospital. Mary was a native and lifelong resident of Jackson County. A 1942 graduate of Malone High School, she was former owner of Green's Oyster Bar.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Hardy L. Green and James Capps; and daughter, Martha Lou Green.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ann Carroll of Marianna; three grandchildren, Jason Smith, Carrie Helms and Hardy Smith; five great-grandchildren, Whitney and Ashley Stephens, and Emily, Sarah and Jacey Smith.
The graveside funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 29, at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Michael Petty officiating. James and Sikes Maddox Chapel will direct.
The family will receive friends Friday, Sept. 28, from 6 to 7 p.m., at Maddox Chapel.
Jane Frances Oglesby
Mrs. Jane Frances Oglesby, age 73, of Altha, died peacefully at her home with her family by her side on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007.
Mrs. Oglesby was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond P. Oglesby; parents, Lawrence and Loretta Gaekle; and two brothers, Lawrence and Thomas Gaekle.
Mrs. Oglesby is survived by two sons, David Oglesby of Altha, and John Oglesby of Ft. Lauderdale; one daughter, Mary Oglesby McKenzie and husband Michael of Altha; three grandsons, William Marshall Alday of Tallahassee, John Henry Alday, U.S. Marine Corp, Parris Island, S.C., and Colin Purser Oglesby, of Altha; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Oglesby was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She was an active business partner for over 47 years in one of the largest businesses in Calhoun County. Oglesby Plants International is world-renowned in the horticulture industry. She was an active member of the Florida Nurseryman and Growers Association. Anthurium Lady Jane was patented and named after Mrs. Oglesby.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 30, at the home of Mrs. Oglesby. A private funeral mass is planned. Memorialization will be by cremation. Ruth M. Dryden
Ruth M. Dryden, 93, of Marianna, died Oct. 7, 2007, at her residence.
Mrs. Dryden was a native of Moriah Center, N.Y., and has lived in Jackson County for many years. She was the former owner of C&M Grocery Company of Birmingham, Ala., and owner of Circle D Ranch and Western Shop. She loved to travel, work in the yard and in the family owned business at Circle D. Ruth was of the Methodist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Eastman Dryden, in 2002; and a step-son, George Eastman Dryden Jr.
Survivors include one son, Matt C. Dryden and wife, Barbara, of Marianna; two daughters, Mildred "Sister" Klingemann and husband, Howard, of Bonifay; and Mary Jo Gibson of St. Petersburg Beach; three step-daughters, Dotsey Hofferman of Wisconsin, Mary Ellen Dryden of Chapel Hill, N.C. and Alice Terri Jordan of Virginia Beach; caregivers, Shirley Rhynes, Joyce Webb, Vicki Godwin, Izetta Butler, DeLoris Gillette, Rosa Pollock and Erica Barnes; 16 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Maddox Chapel, with the Rev. Jackie Register officiating. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. Quinton Long, 79, of Bascom, died Monday, Oct. 10, 2007, at his residence.

Dorothy Mae (Jackson) Barnes
Dorothy Mae (Jackson) Barnes, 67 of Marianna died Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at her home.
A lifelong resident of Jackson County, Mrs. Barnes was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Marianna.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph C. and Estelle Blair Jackson.
Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Harold Barnes of Marianna; one daughter, Debra Barnes Duncan and husband, Don, of Round Rock, Texas ; one son, Keith Barnes of Marianna; five grandchildren, Christopher Kern and wife, April, of Gulfport, Miss., Beth Barnes of Gulfport, Miss., Rachael and Whitney Duncan of Round Rock, Texas , and Brian Barnes of Marianna; one great-granddaughter, Laura Kern of Gulfport, Miss.; and two brothers, Neal Jackson of Tampa, and Bobby Jackson and wife, Lois, of Cottondale.
The funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 8, at Maddox Chapel, with Brother Michael Clark officiating; burial followed at Riverside Cemetery, with James and Sikes Funeral Home - Maddox Chapel directing.

Mattie Lou Ham
Mattie Lou Ham, 88, passed away, Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at her home in Graceville.
Mrs. Ham was born in Jackson County, on March 18, 1919, to John Wesley and Mattie Osia Bruner Cooley, the 11th of 12 children. She was educated in the schools of Jackson County and a member of the Damascus Baptist Church.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., today, Oct. 9, at Damascus Baptist Church, with Dr. Jerry Oswalt and the Rev. Chester Padgett officiating. Internment will follow in church cemetery, with James and Lipford Funeral Home of Graceville directing.

Surviving are two daughters, Margaret Ann Hughes and husband, Jimmy, of Lynn Haven; and Barbara Hinson and husband, Hubert, of Graceville; four grandchildren, Regina Battles and husband, Terry, of Graceville, Keith Hinson of Graceville, Allison Brooks and husband, Keith, of Crestview; and Stefanie Hughes of Pensacola; and three great-granddaughters, Hadley Battles, Shelby Battles and Katherine Battles.
Pallbearers will be Charles Mitchell, Gene Brock, Bob Hicks, Paul Cooley, James Calloway and Lamar Crutchfield.
