Ms. Betty Faye Goodman, 49, of 212 Banks Road, Griffin, Ga., passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2001, at the Bay Medical Center in Panama City, Fla. Mrs. Goodman was born in Upson County, daughter of the late Lewis Trimmer. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Goodman; brothers, Grady Trimmer and Lewis Trimmer Jr. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Shana R. Weaver and John of Griffin; one son and daughter-in-law, Wendell Dwayne and Michelle Goodman of Griffin; grandchildren: Christopher Goodman, Amanda Lee Goodman, Heather Marie Goodman, Dustin Dwayne Hutson; mother, Zadie D. Trimmer; four sisters and brother-in-law: Ann and Roy Gaddy of Panama City, Gladys McCall of Griffin, Sylvia and Bobby Martin of Griffin, Dorothy and Frank Garner of Griffin; brother, Roy Trimmer of Griffin; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Ms. Betty Faye Goodman will be conducted today, Jan. 21, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. The Rev. Riley Finley will officiate. RALPH W. 'JOE' MARKHAM
Mr. Ralph W. "Joe" Markham, 77, of Lake City, Fla., died Friday following a brief illness. Mr. Markham was a native and lifelong resident of Lake City, Fla. Mr. Markham was a farmer his entire life, and had also owned and operated Markham Service Station in Lake City for many years, and had been the supervisor of the vehicle inspections stations in Columbia County. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Markham was a member of the Democratic Executive Committee of Columbia County, and will be remembered as a faithful poll worker. He was a deacon and church leader in the New Beginnings Church. Survivors include his wife, Usina Meeks Markham of Lake City; one son, Joe R. Markham of Lake City; one daughter, Chief Circuit Judge of the 4th Judicial Circuit, Judy Markham Pittman of Panama City, Fla.; two granddaughters, Jaclyn and Allison Pittman, both of Panama City; two brothers, A.B. Markham and Bud Markham, both of Lake City; one sister, Louise Markham Witt of Lake City. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Jan. 23, at 2 p.m. in the New Beginnings Church. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery, Lake City. Edward C. Phillips, 86, of Panama City Beach, died Monday, January 8, 2001, at his home. Mr. Phillips was a long time resident of Bay County. In honor of Mr. Phillips, memorialization by cremation was requested by his family and friends.

Funeral services for Coy Mixon Dean, 90, of 319 East 11th St. in Panama City, who died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, in a local nursing home, will be held today at 1 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Phil Edwards and the Rev. Bill Hunter officiating. Interment will follow in the Youngstown Cemetery. Mrs. Margaret Malloy Hickman, 79, of 1613 Clay Ave., in Panama City, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001. She was a native of Chipley and retired from the City of Panama City. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 22, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Chipley, Fla.

Ms. Irene Kirkland, 84, of Southport passed away Friday, Jan. 19, 2001. She was preceded in death by a son, Billy Mixon; brother, James Gilmer; sisters, Elizabeth Cole and Iona Kirkland; and niece, Joann Hallman. Survivors include one sister, Pauline Trantham of Springfield, Mo.; sister-in-law, Zella Gilmer; niece, Shirley Dudley; grandchildren: Charles and Rhonda Mixon, Bill and Gina Mixon, David and Sharon Mixon, Doug and Donna Mixon, Judy Heath, Frankie Keller, and Melissa and Patrick Mitchell; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Active pallbearers are David Mixon, Bill Mixon, Doug Mixon, Frankie Keller, Billy Mixon and David Vickers. LEIGH OPAL NEWTON
Mrs. Leigh Opal Newton (Lee-Opal), 61, of Panama City, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at a local hospital. Mrs. Newton was born in Henning, Tenn. She moved to Panama City in 1980 coming here from Memphis, Tenn. She was a medical assistant for Dr. Ivannovich and Associates. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church on East Avenue. Mrs. Newton is survived by her husband, William H. Newton of Panama City; one son, Marshall H. Newton of Panama City; three daughters: Melinda Lambert of Panama City, Lacey and her husband, Keith Belt of Panama City Beach, and Cynthia and her husband, Ken Noles of Panama City; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the Southerland Family Funeral Homes Chapel with J.L. Newton officiating.

CHRISTINE RENE CAMERON TRIPP
Mrs. Christine Rene Cameron Tripp, 39, of 2407 W. 13th Court in Panama City, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at her residence. She was born at Tyndall Air Force Base and was a lifelong resident of Panama City. She was a devoted wife and mother and loved fishing and canoeing. Christine was diagnosed with cancer in June 2000 and had been in great pain ever since, but courageously fought the disease. Her husband, Harvey Lee Tripp preceded her in death in 1998. She is survived by a son, Christopher Tripp; a daughter, Kimberly Tripp, both of Panama City; her mother, Shirley Carlson of Panama City; her father, James Cameron and his wife, Doris of Panama City; sisters: Deborah McGinley and her husband Michael of Panama City, Kimberly Murphy and her husband, Phillip of Panama City Beach, and Catherine Dambacher and her husband, Michael of Panama City; step children: Marie, Renee, Martha and Wendy; uncle, William T. Hunt of Bayou George; three nieces, two nephews and one great niece. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at Forest Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. R.C. Warren officiating. There will be a visitation at the funeral home one hour prior to the graveside service. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Fernando Malamud and his staff, and to Hospice of Northwest Florida for the kindness and care given to Christine during her illness. The family will be staying at the home of her mother, Shirley Carlson, 2407 W. 13th Court, Panama City.

THOMAS E. 'TOM' STOUGH
Mr. Thomas E. "Tom" Stough, 77, of Panama City, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at his residence. Born in Toledo, Ohio he moved here in January 1998 from Gainesville, Ga., where he was a construction consultant and a building inspector with the City of Oakwood, Ga. He was also a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, past-commandant of the Gainesville Marine Corp League and a life member of the D.A.V. Mr. Stough served in the U.S. Marine Corp Signal Corp during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary M. Stough of Panama City; three sons: Gary E. Stough and wife, Diane of Cornelia, Ga., Thomas R. Stough and wife, Janice of Franklin, N.C.; and Curtis A. Stough and wife, Millie of Charleston, Tenn.; one daughter, Ann C. Martin and husband, Steve of Braselton, Ga.; one sister, Mary S. Nanney and husband, James of Terra Ceia, Fla.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Memorial services for Mr. Stough will be conducted on today, Jan. 22, 2001, at 10 a.m. in the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

JAMES THOMAS HANNA
MSGT James Thomas Hanna, U.S. Air Force, retired, age 70, of 4935 Hickory St., Panama City, Fla., died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Bay Medical Center. He had been a resident of the area since 1989, coming here from Germany following his retirement from the Air Force. Msgt. Hanna worked for the Hombre Golf Course in Panama City Beach. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force for 26 years and was Presbyterian by faith. He was very active in both of his grandchildren's lives. They were so very special to him. His star in the sky will always shine brightly upon them both. Msgt. Hanna is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ruth Hanna of Panama City; a daughter, Kathleen Rochester and her husband Dale of Fountain, Fla.; a sister, Patricia Stanley of Wichita, Kan.; two brothers, Gary Hanna of West Palm Beach and Charles Hanna of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren, Arianna Hanna and Thomas Rochester, both of Fountain; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Bill Hewett officiating and full military honors conducted by Tyndall A.F.B. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Jan. 23 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Ruby Jewel Horton, 92 of 5705 2nd Place, Lubbock, Texas, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, in Lubbock. She is survived by a son, Curtis Horton and his wife, Jeanne of Lynn Haven; six daughters, Shirley Creeley and her husband, Paul of Chesapeake, Va., Barbara Janosick and her husband, Mike of Lubbock, Carolyn Thornton and her husband, Gerald of Sardis, Tenn., Bonnie Ingram of Webb, Ala., Ruby Bush of Howard's Creek, Dorothy Mitchell and her husband John of Howard's Creek; sister, Pascal Smith and her husband, Marvin of Panama City; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; special friend, Bill Mathis; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Clifton Horton; and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Beauchamp. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Hopkins officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Active pallbearers are John Adams, Phillip King, Ed Porter, Steve Long, John Ford and Jack Street.
