Mrs. Nellie Lucy Weich of 474 Bay Point Drive, Panama City Beach, Fla., died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001. She has been a resident of the area for 11/2 years, coming here from Stuart, Fla., where she lived for 50 years. Mrs. Weich served her country as a First Lt. in the Army Nurse Corps during WWII and was awarded a Bronze Star. She was a nurse at Buffalo Children's Hospital, Women's Hospital in New York City, and Martin Memorial Hospital in Stuart. She was a member of St. Bernadette's Catholic Church in Panama City Beach and St. Joesph's Church in Stuart. Mrs. Weich is survived by a daughter, Lucy W. Smith of Panama City, Fla.; a son, George Weich of Sarasota, Fla.; a sister, Louise Palermo of Charlotte, N.C.; granddaughters, Kelly Tessitore of Boston, Mass.; and Page Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a nephew, Jim Palermo of Charlotte, N.C. A memorial mass and Rosary will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church with Father David O'Shea officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northwest Florida Hospice, 2689 Jenks Ave., Panama City, Fla., 32405.

KATHRYN A. HACKBARTH
Kathryn A. Hackbarth, 83, died Feb. 3, 2001, at a Pensacola nursing home. She had been a resident of Pensacola for the past five years after moving there from Panama City Beach where she had resided for 43 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, George William Hackbarth; her parents, Emil and Mildred Armingeon; and a brother, Carl Armingeon. She is survived by her daughter, Gayle Yarbrough; son-in-law, Ray Yarbrough; granddaughter, Stacy Yarbrough, all of Pensacola; sister, Louise William of Huntsville, Ala.; and a brother, Ralph Armington of Bradenton, Fla. Graveside service will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. The family expresses appreciation to Dr. Richard Ziemba and the Haven of Our Lady nursing home.

HJALMAR J. HANSON
Mr. Hjalmar Joesph Hanson (Chum), 81, of Mexico Beach, Fla., passed away Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001. He was born in Rhinelander, Wis. Mr. Hanson graduated from Rhinelander High School before joining U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and belonged to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mexico Beach, Fla. He retired from the grocery business in Milwaukee, Wis., in 1980. Mr. Hanson is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Louise Hanson; two sons, Robert J. Hanson of Panama City and Michael R. Hanson of North Augusta, S.C.; three grandchildren, Heather Hanson Aliaga and husband Maykel of Tallahassee, Fla.; Lance Hanson and Sabrina Hanson, both of Tallahassee; two great-grandchildren, Marco and Sophia Aliaga of Tallahassee; one sister, Betty Keso and husband Floyd of Rhinelander; nieces, Judy Schinke and families of Rhinelander; Mary Patricia Kuczmarski and daughters Lynn, Paula and their families of Rhinelander; one sister-in-law, Ruth Hanson; nephews Gene and Steve Hanson and their families, nieces Kay, Lottie and Mary and their families, all of Wisconsin; sister-in-law Sadie Hester of Greenwood, Miss; sister-in-law, Doris Hefner and son Dale of Marianna, Fla.; nephews by marriage, Johnnie, Billy and Charles Rickles and their families of Greenwood, Miss.; nieces by marriage, Rose Ann Crook of Boston, Mass.; and Nell White of Greenwood. Funeral services will be conducted today, Feb. 5, 2001 at 10 a.m. CST in the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mexico Beach, Fla. Internment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetary. The family will receive friends this evening at Gilmore-Southerland Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m.

ESTHER BANKS KENNEDY
Esther Banks Kennedy, 86, of Southport died Friday Feb. 2, 2001, in a local nursing home. She was born Effie Mae Nichols on September 15, 1914, to Ellis and Ophelia Nichols. Upon her parents' death, she was adopted at the age of 13 by loving parents, Ed and Lucy Banks, who were homesteaders and pioneers of the Sand Hills area. She took the name of Esther in honor of the Banks' only child who died at birth and is buried at White Western. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin S. Kennedy; son, Ralph Lisenby; daughter, Delores Jensen; parents, Ed and Lucy Banks; brothers, Ellis Nichols, Rufus Nichols, Robert Nichols, Tom Banks and Thad Banks; sister, Ethel N. Walters; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She is survived by six daughters, Shirley Moore and her husband Marvin of Dunnellon, Fla.; Elma Deane Newsom and her husband Joe; Jeanette McLemore; Joyce Yetter and her husband Bill; Martha Somnitz and her husband Buddy; and Twyla Lindsay; 21 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in the Mashburn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. today. Active pallbearers are Johnny Newsom, John Bailey, Frankie McLemore, Steve Moore, Tony Yetter and Gary Raffield.

FRANK RAY MILLER JR
Frank Ray Miller Jr., 60, of Chipley passed away from this life on Saturday Feb. 3, 2001, at his residence. He had resided in Chipley for the last 10 years after coming from New York. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Berean Baptist Church. He was a member of the D.A.V. and the Fleet Reserve Association. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. CST Tuesday Feb. 6, 2001, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home with Lonnie Wright and Pastor Rainwater officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem Methodist Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 5, 2001, at Brown Funeral Home in Chipley. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made to the Hospice of Northwest Florida. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Miller. He is survived by his father, Frank Ray Miller Sr. of Chipley; wife Elizabeth Miller of Chipley; sons, Dennis Beck, wife Pam and their children Jessica and Dusty, all of DeFuniak Springs; and David K. Miller, wife Debbie and their son Michael, all of Warner Robbins, Ga.; daughter, Pamela Beck and her daughter Micah of Panama City; brother, David C. ERMA JEAN ANDREWS
Mrs. Erma Jean Andrews, age 68, of Cedar Grove, Fla., went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001. She was born in Andalusia, Ala., and moved here in 1950. As an active member of her community, she served as a city commissioner in Cedar Grove since 1993. She was chairman of the planning committee and was honored with the Citizen of the Year award for Bay County. She was a dedicated Christian and member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother and best friend. Mrs. Andrews is survived by her family, including her husband, M.H. "Buck" Andrews of Cedar Grove; four children, Murray Alan Andrews of Cedar Grove, Lindi Cosson and her husband Billy Joe of Denver, Colo., Cindi Ramer and her husband Ray of Panama City, and Roger Van Andrews and Sheri Golden, of Cedar Grove; 10 grandchildren, Reed, Eve and Molly Andrews, Christi, Marc and Annie Cosson, Michelle and Melanie Ramer, Kerri and Corey Andrews; one great-grandchild, Marcus Cosson; one sister, Carolyn Ward; and one brother, Lavon Silas, both of Plant City, Fla. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Cedar Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Charles Key officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening, Feb. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. Active pallbearers will be the officers of Cedar Grove Police Dept. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Shirley Wilson Sunday School Class. Those wishing to may contribute to the Cedar Grove Baptist Church Building Fund.

CHERYL BURTON BETZ
Mrs. Cheryl Burton Betz, 40, of Mandan, N.D., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, in a North Dakota hospital. Born in Long Island, N.Y., she moved here in 1963 from Okinawa, Japan. She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother and daughter. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and a graduate of Rutherford High School. She was a dedicated Christian, had been the choir director for two years at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and was still active in all Christian activities with her church. She continued her Christian activities at Evangel Temple in Bismarck, N.D. Mrs. Betz is survived by her Christian family, her parents, Kenneth W. Burton Jr. and Sylvia Burton of Parker, Fla.; her husband, Charles Betz; two children, Chase and Cole Betz all of Mandan, N.D.; one sister, Robin Burton-Lees and husband Harry of Bourne, Texas; two brothers, the Rev. Kenneth W. Burton III and wife Terry of Little Rock, Ark., and Eric Scott Burton of Panama City Beach; maternal grandmother, Sylvia Beuttennueller of New Jersey; paternal grandfather, Kenneth W. Burton Sr. of New Castle, Ind., and numerous loving aunts, uncles and other family members. Funeral services will be conducted today, Feb. 6, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Callaway with Pastor Gary Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Holton R. Harders, Curtis Trexler, Tim Odom, Ed Taylor, Ken Miller and Don Hennings. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Choir. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Building or Scholarship funds or to the Shiloh Christian School in Bismarck, N.D., in memory of Cheryl.

EVELYN M. CHENEY
Mrs. Evelyn M. Cheney, 81, of Mexico Beach, Fla., died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at her home. Born in Pratt City, Ala., she moved here in 1999 from Weaver, Ala. She was a homemaker and a member of First Methodist Church in East Gadsden, Ala. Mrs. Cheney is survived by six daughters, Linda Besserdich, Carolyn Hatten, Louise Jones, Debra Bryant, Betty Firestone and Eve Finn; two brothers, Richard and Donald Cheney; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 11 a.m. in Crestwood Cemetery in Gadsden, Ala. Visitation will be held this evening from 7 to 9 p.m. EST at the funeral home in Port St. Joe. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the graveside in Gadsden.

Mr. Durden Lanier, age 76, died Sunday at his residence in Portal, Ga. Surviving are his wife, Annette Lanier; two daughters and sons-in-law, Annie Fred Lanier and Joe Nichols, Merlene Lanier and Ken Johansen, all of Panama City; three grandchildren, Erika Hogans of San Antonio, Texas, Johanna Lanier and Jacob Nichols of Panama City; one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held today, Feb. 6, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro, Ga. Michael Edward Mann, 49, of Lynn Haven, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, in San Diego, Calif. Born in Indiana , Mr. Mann moved here in 1996 from North Carolina and was a retired truck driver. He is survived by his wife, Nora Mann; mother and stepfather, Carolyn and Cy Jordan; sons, Christopher Mann, Charles Mann, Thomas Mann, Mark Mann, Lance Swiconek, Jason Richards, George Abbs and Ron Vick Malubay; daughters, Lorie Richards, Karla Weaver and Charlene Swiconek; brothers, Mark Jordan and Rex Jordan; sister, Teresa Ward; and four grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Feb. 7, from 1 to 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with a memorial service following with the Rev. Dennis Schmidt officiating.

WILLIAM WILBUR MILLER II
William Wilbur Miller II, U.S. Navy, of Mexico Beach, Fla., died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, as the result of an automobile accident in Bay County. Born in San Bernardino, Calif., she moved here 21 years ago from California. He was active duty with the U.S. Navy and worked on submarines. He was also a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

CAROLYN ROUNTREE PARISH
Carolyn Rountree Parrish, age 72, a resident of Dothan, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, in Panama City, Fla,. following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7 at Byrd Funeral Home chapel in Dothan with Dr. Philip Wise and the Rev. Homer Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today and also on Wednesday, from 10 a.m until 10:45 a.m. Mrs. Parrish was born on Sept. 19, 1928. She graduated from Ashford High School in 1946. She married Hilton Parrish, of Dothan. Together they owned the Parkway Restaurant, the Fisherman's Wharf and later Hilton's Hearth. Governor George Wallace appointed her to the Houston County Board of Registrars in 1983. Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Ray Swigler and husband, David Swigler, of Panama City, Fla.; her son, Derek Parrish and wife, Lisa Parrish of Montgomery, Ala.; six grandchildren, Casey and Colin Swigler of Panama City, Mitchell, Carolyn, Bruce and Ann Kathryn Parrish of Montgomery; brothers, Charles Rountree and wife, Sally, of Selma, Ala., Collins Rountree and wife, Dot, of High Point, N.C., Lowell Rountree and wife, Diane, of Dothan; sister-in-law, Ginny Rountree, of Atlanta, Ga., wife of the late Samuel C. Rountree Jr.; brothers-in-law, Billy Parrish and wife, Segrid, and Jimmy Parrish and wife, Harriet, both of Dothan.
