Mrs. Joan George, 52, of Panama City, Fla., died Wednesday morning, Feb. 7, 2001, in a local hospital. Born in Montezuma, Ga., she moved here in 1986. She worked as a civilian employee at the Naval Coastal Station. She was Episcopal by faith. A memorial service will be conducted on today, Feb. 9 at 10 a.m. in the Naval Base Chapel with Chaplain Kirby Rich officiating.

Sandra Faye Hector-Pugh was born on June 19, 1950, to Bonnie and Louis Carten. She left behind a legacy of a husband, seven children, nine grandchildren, and a host of brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and beloved friends around the world. SAM LAMAR HORNSBY
Sam Lamar Hornsby, long-time resident of Merritt Island, passed away Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at his home. Mr. Hornsby was born May 5, 1920, in Elmore County, Ala., the fifth child of six to Samuel Cyrus Hornsby and Bessie Myrtle Morris. He graduated in 1939 from Tallassee High School and entered the service in 1940, where he became the youngest master sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps, Southeast Command. In 1943, he and Loraine Moore of Charleston, S.C., married in Panama City. Mr. Hornsby received his direct commission in 1951, and retired from the Air Force in 1961, at the rank of Captain. From 1961 to 1970, the Hornsbys resided in Montgomery, Ala. Subsequent to his military service, Mr. Hornsby was employed as an executive with RCA, serving as Logistics Manager at AUTEC, Andros Island, the Bahamas. Upon his retirement from RCA in 1985, Mr. Hornsby made his home on south Merritt Island. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 58 years, Loraine Hornsby; son, Samuel Lamar Hornsby (Pat S.) of Coral Springs, Fla.; daughter, Renee Hornsby Hartmann (Dr. James X.) of Boca Raton; siblings, Mrs. Francis Pratt of Marietta, Ga. and Howard L. Hornsby of Palm Desert, Calif., brother-in-law, Vance Moore (Joe T.) of Arab, Ala.; seven grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of dear friends around the world. A memorial service in celebration of Mr. Hornsby's life will be held at 10 a.m. today, Feb. 9, at Suntree Methodist Church, the Revs. Spencer and Van Ens officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Methodist Children's Home, c/o Suntree Methodist Church, 7200 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne, FL 32940. Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Gainer-Ward, 87, of 603 E. 8th Court., who died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, in a local hospital, will be held Saturday, Feb. 10 at 11 a.m. at New Judson Baptist Church, with the Rev. T.M. Youngblood, officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery. She was an active and dedicated member of New Judson Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board and as Mother of the Church. She was affectionately known as "Aunt Marie", "Sister" and "Mama." She was a member of the Christian Band of Benevolence, County Wide Mission Society and the Jolly 12 Social Club. She leaves to cherish her memories a host of nephews and nieces: son, the Rev. Jimmy Ward; daughter, Barbara Ward-Jones; adopted brother, Jim Tom McNair; favorite mechanic, Freddie Douglas and numerous of other relatives and friends. Visitation hour will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today.

Mrs. Maurice Worley Long, age 84, of 4405 Brannon Road, Brannonville, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at a local hospital. She has been a resident of Bay County for 40 years coming here from Graceville, Fla. Mrs. Long was a member of Brannonville Community Church and enjoyed fishing. Mrs. Long is survived by her husband, John H. Long of Brannonville; and three sons, James Worley of Raleigh, N.C.; Don Worley of Fairview, Utah; Fred Worley of West Warwick, R.I.; two stepdaughters, Ginger Kelley, and Ann Firdig both of Panama City; four stepsons, Jim Long of Wewa., Harold Long and Roy Long of Panama City, and Ira Long of Fountain; a sister, Ruth Lucas of Dothan, Ala.; brothers, Rapheal Retherford of Atlanta, Ga., Roland Retherford of Beaumont, Tex., seventeen grandchildren, twenty two great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild, sixteen step-grandchildren, and numerous step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Marie Morsworthy; sister, Iris Taylor Carmicheal, and brother, Arvel Retherford. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Brogdon and the Rev. Johnny Cromer officiating. Interment will follow at Galilee Cemetery in Jackson County. Asked to serve as pallbearers are: Greg Worley, Gary Worley, Jennings Norsworthy, Travis Worley, Donnie Worley, Shaun Anderson and Mike Norsworthy. HENRY CECIL SKIPPER
Mr. Henry Cecil Skipper, age 80, of 619 Satsuma Ave., Panama City, Fla., passed away Wednesday, eb. 7, 2001, at a local nursing home. He has been a life long resident of Bay County. Mr. Skipper was of the protestant faith, he touched many lives with his generosity, loved to fish, served his country in the US Army as a paratrooper, was a member of the Harry Jackson Lodge No. 314 of Lynn Haven and the V.F.W. Post 2185. Mr. Skipper is survived by his wife of 10 and a half years Jennie Skipper of Panama City; two daughters, Marlene Wissert and husband Walt, Lanette Dockery and husband Pete all of Chicago, Ill.; five grandchildren, Tim Wissert and wife Michelle, Michael Dockery, Jimmy Dockery, Kristy Villtilo and husband Tony, and Aylice Dockery all of Chicago, Ill.; four great-grandchildren, Blake Villtilo, Echo Villtilo, Shea Villtilo, and Jordan Wissert all of Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Edith Thorne of Panama City and a brother Windell Skipper of Port St. Joe. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 10 at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J.W. Hunt officiating. Interment will follow at Millville Cemetery with full military honors conducted by Fort Rucker Honor Guard. Mr. Robert Edward "Eddie" Bland, age 47, of 1101 Marion Joyner Dr., Panama City, Fla., passed away Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at his residence. He had been a lifelong resident of Bay County. Mr. Bland served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Bland of Panama City; father, John D. Bland and wife Sandy of Lynn Haven; Daughters, Karen Dean and Jackie of Tampa, Melissa Elaine Palmore and husband Donald of Panama City; a son, Darryl Lee Brogdon and Valerie of Panama City Beach; sisters, Jeanette Barnhill and her husband James of Port St. Joe; Guinette King and her husband Wayne of Panama City; Karen Ruth Price and her husband Stephen of Southport; Andrea Mitchelle Anderson and her husband Alan of Southport; brothers, Larry Russell Bland and his wife Joanne of Southport; John David Bland Jr. and his wife Patricia of Southport; Hubert Samuel Bland and his wife Tammy of Panama City; Kenneth Craig Bland and his wife Elaine of Port St. Joe; Steven Anthony Bland of Millville; six grandchildren, and numerous other nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001 at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Nathan Keen officiating and military honors rendered by the U.S. Marine Corps. Honor Guard. JON JOSEF JORGENSEN
Mr. Jon Joseph Jorgensen, Sr., age 55, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at his residence. Mr. Jorgensen was born in Mobile, Ala., and had lived most of his life in the Panama City area. He worked as a grocery store marketing consultant, store manager and meat cutter before beginning a heroic battle with cancer. The courage and good humor he exhibited under impossible odds was inspiring to all who knew him. Mr. Jorgensen was a loving husband and father. He was the perfect host of huge barbeques and cook outs for family gatherings. He will be missed by all his loved ones. Mr. Jorgensen is survived by his loving wife, Robin Jorgensen of Panama City; children, Jon Jorgensen, Jo Jo Jorgensen, Daniel Jorgensen, Lorrie Jorgensen, all of Panama City, Lisa Cox and her husband Michael of Chipley, Lynn Adams and her husband David of Panama City; his mother, Louise Jorgensen of Panama City; sisters, Kay Buxton and her husband Joe of Panama City, Rosemary Salmon of Lake Charles, La.; grandchildren: John, James and Jason Greenley, Courtney and Tyler Cox, Victoria, Julie, Amy, and Trey Adams, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R.C. Warren officiating. Eleanor Campbell McArthur, 92, of Sneads, Fla., died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, in her home. She had been a resident of Panama City since 1945, moving here from Pensacola, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband, O.L. McArthur. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Panama City and Ruth Sunday school class. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by a daughter, Betty McArthur of Sneads; three grandchildren, Robert Cullen Jr. of Panama City, Slade McNeill of Marianna, Kimberly Cullen Hatcher of Grand Ridge; six great-grandchildren, Megan Crawford, Joshua Crawford, Jordan Cullen, Zeptorah Nance, Wyatt Hatcher, Gage McNeill, and several nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. in Bayview Memorial Park Cemetery, Pensacola, with the Rev. Larry D. Mosley officiating.

Fern S. Moore of Panama City Beach went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001. Mrs. Moore was born in Randelman, N.C., Jan. 7, 1922. She has been a resident of Panama City Beach since 1957. Mrs. Moore is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Brooks and son-in-law, Jay Brooks of the British Virgin Islands; a grandson, Jacson Moore of Panama City Beach; and two sisters, Mary Louise Bradshaw and Betty Sue Spivey, both of North Carolina. Graveside funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Monday, Feb. 12 at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery with Minister Le Derrick Smedley of Faith Christian Family Church officiating. Interment will follow.
