Edsel G.(Duck) Davis, 71, of Panama City, passed away in his home early Saturday morning, March 10, 2001. He was a lifelong resident of Panama City. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years during the Korean War. He built, worked on and designed boats for over 50 years. He loved his work so much, he always said he didn't work but played. He was a member of the St. Andrew Baptist Church. Edsel is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elsie; daughter, Jannie D. Flood of Culshawg, Australia; son, Gregg Davis of Panama City; granddaughter, Lori D. Cannon; grandson, David Odell, both of Orlando, Fla.; three sisters, Clara Nell Miller, Silva Fuller, both of Southport, Margaret Fisher of Fort Worth, Texas, two brothers, Joe Ed Davis, Grover Davis, both of Panama City. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, in the Wilson Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. R.C. Warren officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home. Those desiring to may make a donation to Hospice of Northwest Florida in memory of Duck Davis.

James T. Thompson Jr., 81, of 1005 W. 12th St., died Sunday morning in a local hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Panama City and was a 1939 graduate of Bay High School. He was a World War II veteran. He was a retired government employee. He was a Mason and was a member of the First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Richard Galloway Sunday school class. He is survived by his wife Marian (Jerry) Thompson of Panama City; daughter, Janet Dunning and her husband Bill of Panama City; son, James C. Thompson of Seattle, Wash.; two grandchildren, Michael E. Dunning and Julie Dunning, both of Panama City; a sister, Estelle Reeves and her husband M.E. of Panama City; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Raley officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. ROBERT S. 'BOB' HUFFMAN SR.
Mr. Robert S. (Bob) Huffman Sr., 65, of Parker passed away in the early morning Saturday, March 10, 2001, in a local health care facility. Robert was born in Ehel, Wash., on Dec. 30, 1935, and was the oldest son of Rossco Huffman (who migrated from Greenbriar County, W. Va., with his father Samuel) and Edith Baker of Deary, ID. He is survived by his wife Janice and his two sons, Robert Jr. and Neil, all of Panama City; brothers, Ira of Myrtle Point, Ore., and Leonard of Coos Bay, Ore.; and sister, Dorothy Orell of Portland, Ore. Robert Huffman distinguished himself as a rated Air Force officer and radar navigator while serving in some of the most difficult times in recent history. During his first active duty assignment, he was called upon to fly missions to defend the U.S. during the Cuban missile crisis of 1962 and later flew 197 more combat missions during the Vietname War. After the war, he served as commander of various maintenance squadrons in Korea and in the continental U.S. During his flying years he was highly decorated, receiving the distinguished Flying Cross for valor in combat, he was awarded the Air Medal 10 times, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Expeditionary Medal, Combat Readiness Medal with Device, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Medal with Device, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor, and the Air Force Commendation Medal. His B-52 crew was chosen to receive the Golden Bomber Crew Award for being the best operational readiness crew in Strategic Air Command. As one of the most senior and combat experienced navigators, he was selected to train and evaluate new crews in the rigorous combat environment. Since his military retirement he worked for 20 years in the Bay County area in real estate with Bay County Realty and Neubauer Realty. He was actively involved in several community activities and service organizations, including the Reserve Officer Association, AFSA. He was also deeply involved with the Parkway Lions Club where he was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for dedicated humanitarian service while serving the needs of the community in charity and fund-raising activities. He will be honored during the funeral service at the Southerland Family Funeral Home on the corner of Harrison and 19th Street. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. today. His funeral service will be Tuesday, March 13, at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery
with full military honors.

Mr. Thomas Michael Gorman, 51, of 1308 Buena Vista Blvd., Panama City, Fla., died Sunday, March 11, 2001. Born in Macon, Ga., he moved here in 1957 from Erica, Va. He was employed by Tidewater Marine of Monroe, La., as a maritime sea captain. He was also a member of the merchant Marines. Mr. Gorman is survived by his mother, Jeanette Gorman of Panama City; three brothers, Patrick Joseph "Joe" Gorman and wife Michelle of Panama City Beach, Robert "Bobby" Gorman and wife Sandy of Panama City, Gary Gorman and wife Jo of Panama City Beach; nine nieces and nephews. Mr. Jack B. Pepper, age 80, of 4107 W. 22nd St., Panama City, Fla., died Monday, March 12, 2001, at a local hospital. He was Protestant by faith and was a member of Panama City Elks Lodge No. 1598 and chairman of The Bingo Committee. Mr. Pepper is survived by his wife, Maxine Pepper of Panama City; his mother, Wesley Howard of Florence, Ala.; seven children; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Nancy McIntyre of Florence and a brother, David Pepper of California. Mr. Rivers (The Snowcone Man) of Parker, Fla., went to be with the Lord March 10, 2001. He was medically retired from the military. In his early days, Guitar Grant and the Sonics was one of his passions. Mr. Rivers is survived by his loving and devoted wife Ruth of 42 years; four children, Karin and her husband Malcom Lane of Ocala, Fla., Alison Rivers, Debra Rivers Pratt and Grant David Rivers of Panama City; two grandchildren, Stephen and Stephanie. Mr. William Carl Ward, age 64, of Youngstown, Fla., was promoted to Glory, Sunday, March 11, 2001, at a local hospital. A native of Coffee County, Ala., he had lived in Bay County for 45 years. He was a heavy equipment operator and was a member of the Salvation Army, where he was a past president of the Men's Club. Mr. Ward enjoyed singing, playing his guitar, fishing and loved playing bingo and dominoes with his friends at the Council on Aging, Site 2. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Lillian Ward of Youngstown; a son, Buddy Ward and Becky of Youngstown; one granddaughter, Grandpa's special girl, Ariana Ward and her mother Kathy; two brothers, Charles Ward and his wife Willie Mae of Callaway and Tommy Ward and his wife Nancy of Crestview; a sister, Doris Barnes of Enterprise; and a special nephew, Ronnie Ward of Crestview. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Eula Ward; and a sister, Emmie Manning. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 14, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Carl H. Wiesman, 88, of 413 Rowe Drive, Panama City, Fla., died Sunday March 11, 2001, at his home. He was a native of Dayton, Ohio, and had been a resident of Panama City for 49 years. He had been owner and operator of BayView Dairy and several Panama City Beach businesses, and a active member of the Panama City Lions Club and the Panama City Exchange Club prior to retirement. His family has known him as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Mr. Wiesman is survived by his wife of 66 years, Julie M. Wiesman of Panama City; a daughter, Julie W. White of Memphis, Tenn.; three granddaughters, Deanna W. McAlexander of Memphis, Laura D. Nepute of Dover, Del., and Andre L. White of Memphis; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Theresa Wilbur of Dayton, Ohio. Memorialization will be by cremation and a private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Emerald Coast, whose attentive staff provided compassionate care to Mr. Wiesman and his family.
