Mr. Aubrey Barker "Porky" Funchess Jr., age 54, of Lynn Haven, Fla., died Tuesday, March 20, 2001. He had been a lifelong resident of the area and was Baptist by faith. Mr. Funchess was self-employed as a carpenter and enjoyed fishing. He is survived by his parents, Aubrey and Madeline Funchess of Lynn Haven; his wife, Linda Funchess of Panama City; daughters, Stephanie Silva and her husband Joe and Frankie Ann Funchess, all of Panama City; sons, Burton Funchess and his wife Lori, Eric Funchess, and Ray L. Funchess, all of Panama City; sisters, Linda K. Rogers and her husband Walter of Lake Charles, La., and Nancy C. White and her husband Dane of Anniston, Ala.; a brother, Robert E. Funchess of Lynn Haven; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 22, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Donnie Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Dave Mitchell, David Coleman, Steve Burkett and Tim Mitchell. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, March 21, from 6 to 8 p.m.

VERNON FRANKLIN HUNT
Mike Hunt, age 80, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Monday, March 19, 2001, at his residence. He was born in Arizona and moved here 36 years ago. He was a retired pilot in the U.S. Air Force and served in World War II. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Hunt is survived by his wife, Linda Hunt of Panama City; daughter, Patricia Moore and son-in-law, Robert Moore of Ohio; grandchildren, Donna Moyer of Ohio, Michael Thane of Ohio; stepdaughter, Terry McArdle and son-in-law Danny McArdle of Panama City; grandchildren, Kasey, Holly and Dalton of Panama City. Funeral services will be conducted today, March 21, at 11 a.m. in Southerland Famiy Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron L'Huillier officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Full military honors will be accorded at graveside.

BOBBIE JEAN TATE
Mr. Bobbie Jean Tate, 57, of Panama City, Fla., died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at his home. He was employed with Bellsouth for 34 years. His father and mother, a sister, Carolyn Holder and a brother, Eddie "Bo" Tate, precede him in death. Mr. Tate is survived by a devoted wife, Barbara J. Tate of Panama City; two daughters, Jeannie Saffold and husband Stacy of Panama City, Stacey Grantham of Crawfordville, Fla.; one son, Bo Grantham and wife Debbie of Panama City; two grandsons, Jay and Zachary Saffold of Panama City; three brothers, Charlie D. Tate and wife Bernice of Panama City, Calvin Tate and wife Wanda of Chipley, David Tate and wife Bea of Westville, Fla.; four sisters, Agnes Edwards of Cedartown, Ga., Shirley Jenkins and husband Murray of Westville, Christine Bryant and husband Jimmy of Enterprise, Ann Murphy and husband Donnie of Gulfport, Miss.; brother-in-law, Ray Edwards and wife Opal of Marietta; one sister-in-law, Debbie Tate of Westville; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 20, at 2 p.m. in Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ike Steverson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Northwest Florida or National Brain Tumor Foundation.

PAULINE A HORTON
Mrs. Pauline A. Horton, 86, of Panama City, Fla., died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, in a local nursing facility. Born in Michigan, she moved here in 1971 from Cochran, Ga. She was Catholic by faith. Her husband, Curtis R. Horton, precedes her in death. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, March 23, at 11 a.m. in Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Andrew officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service.

WILLIAM ELLIOTT SNUGGS
William "Bill" Snuggs, age 58, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2001 at his home in Panama City. Bill was born Oct. 10, 1942, in Pensacola, where he lived until attending college at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Upon graduating from Georgia Tech, he moved to Panama City where he began a distinguished career as a civil service electronics engineer for the U.S. Navy, employed at the Naval Coastal Systems Center in Panama City for 38 years. Bill was a very caring and generous man to his children and to those close to him. He very much enjoyed the outdoors and photography and was an intensely devoted grandfather. He is preceded in death by his son, Byron Elliott; and his father, Earnest Snuggs. Bill is survived by his son, Darrin Snuggs; daughter, Julie Clements and husband Matthew, parents of grandsons, Royce and Dylan; brother, Michael Richard Snuggs and wife Diana, parents of niece Courtney; brother, Earnest Rae Snuggs and wife Stacia; mother, Evelyn Hearn and husband Robert. Funeral services will be held at Fisher-Pou Memorial Chapel at Bayview Memorial Park in Pensacola on Friday, March 23, at 11 a.m. There will be visitation for the family and friends at the funeral home today, March 22, between 6 and 8 p.m.

Morris G. Southall, 77, of 2220 Edgewood Drive, Panama City, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at a local hospital. He had been a resident of Bay County since 1957, moving here from Birmingham, Ala. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was a retired engineer for the Naval Coastal Systems Station. He was a member of the Florida Engineering Society and the St. Dominics Roman Catholic Church. Mr. Southall is survived by his wife, Flora Southall; three children, James Morris Southall and his wife, Dianne of Lynn Haven, Deborah Aymond and her husband, David of Jeanerette, La., David A. Southall and his wife Ginger of Lynn Haven; five grandchildren, James Southall Jr., Terry Southall, Michele Gibbs, David Aymond II, Allison Nicole Aymond; four great-grandchildren, Jamie Southall, Alexis Southall, Andrew Southall, Brenden Gibbs; two sisters, Juanita Robertson of Bessemer, Ala., Gloria Bishop of Birmingham, Ala.; and two brothers, A.E. Southall of Panama City, and Thomas Southall of Birmingham, Ala. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church with Father Peter Zalewski officiating. Frank Alfred Stout II, age 19, of 3907 Ural St., Panama City Beach, Fla., who died Sunday, March 18, 2001, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2001, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on 6530 North Lagoon Drive with Bro. Steven Woznick officiating. Albert Hugh Cumbee Jr., 43, of Bramblewood Trail, Cartersville, Ga., died Wednesday, March 21, 2001. Mr. Cumbee was born Oct. 18, 1957, in Hampstead, N.Y., a son of the late Albert Hugh Cumbee Sr. A Cartersville resident since 1998, he was employed by Kentucky Fried Chicken as a field training instructor. Mr. Cumbee is survived by his wife, Laura Bos Cumbee; two sons, Brian William Cumbee and Randall Keith Cumbee, both of Cartersville; his mother, Mary Cumbee of Panama City, Fla.; and sister, Gail Barnhardt of Churchland, N.C. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24, from the chapel of the Owen Funeral Home, with Father Ken Murie officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to National Brain Tumor Foundation, 414 13th St., Suite 700, Oakland, Calif. 94612-2606. EARL WOODFAULK JR.
Mr. Earl Woodfaulk Jr., 49, of 1020 E. 14th Court, died Sunday morning, March 18, 2001, at Bay Medical Center. He was a longtime resident of Bay County, Fla. He is survived by his daughter, Ms. Tracy Woodfaulk; two grandchildren, Mercedez Marshall and Alexius Woodfaulk all of Dublin, Ga.; three brothers: Gregory (Angelia) Woodfaulk, Ronald (Glinda) Woodfaulk and James (Ethal) Woodfaulk, all of Panama City; two sisters, Patricia (Carl) Miller of Royal Palm, Fla., and Loretta (Roger) Blue of Sarasota, Fla. Mr. Woodfaulk leaves a loving godmother, Mrs. Betty Groden of Port St. Joe and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and devoted friends. Graveside services for Mr. Woodfaulk will be held Saturday, March 24, at 1 p.m. in Hillside Cemetery with Bishop Lonnie Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow. Public visitation will begin at the funeral home today from 1 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends at 1020 East 14th Court.

OBIE FRENCH LEGEAR
Mrs. Obie French Legear, age 82, was born to Bud French and Nanny Chitty on Oct. 29, 1918, in Holmes County, Fla. God called her home on March 20, 2001, after a lengthy illness at Shand's Hospital in Gainesville, Fla. An accomplished business woman, Mrs. Legear owned and operated Unique Beauty Salon in downtown Panama City for 35 years. After her retirement she launched herself into her second career, as the owner and landlord of several rental properties that included Legear's Mobile Home Park and Townhouses. Mrs. Legear was a devout Christian and a founding member of Hiland Park United Pentecostal Church. She survived her husband, Alvie Cullifer and an infant daughter, Emmamarie. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Noah A. Legear Sr.; daughter-in-law, Kathleen K. Legear; and infant granddaughter, Kristina Marie. She also leaves to cherish her memory one son, Noah A. Legear Jr. and his wife Jan; a precious granddaughter, Kimberly L. Golden and her husband Frank; three sisters, Wilma Cullifer and Blondell Taylor, both of Westville, and Onnie Robinson of Panama City; a brother, Wallace H. "Pete" French of Panama City; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Cawthan and the Rev. Collis French; and two sisters, Selma Davidson and Voncille French. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at Kent-Forest Lawn Home Chapel with the Rev. Wilfred Carter officiating and Mr. Wallace C. French providing the eulogy. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Wallace C. French, Kenny French, Dennis Kay French, Darryl French, Kevin French, and Tim Robinson. ROY 'OSSIE' LANIER
Roy "Ossie" Lanier, 82, of Cottondale died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at his residence. A native of Sneads, he retired from Jackson Hospital as maintenance supervisor and was of the Baptist faith. Mr Lanier was preceded in death by a son, Joe Lanier in 1978. Survivors include his spouse, Mildred Lanier of Cottondale; a son, Michael L. Lanier of Alford; three daughters: Lyvonne Yelton of Lithia Springs, Fla., Gloria Ann McGee of Lake City and Debra Lanier Cassady of Marianna; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today, March 23, at Lord Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. James Vickery and Clif Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Alford Cemetery with Lord Funeral Home directing. NADINE APLIN
Mrs. Nadine Aplin, 76, of Port St. Joe, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2001. A native of Greensboro, N.C., she had been a resident of Beacon Hill and later Port St. Joe for over 60 years, and was a member of First Baptist Church. Mrs. Alpin worked in the Sherman Shipyard during World War II, and later worked as a nurse for the Municipal Hospital and Bay St. Joseph Care Center. She also worked for Dr. Tim Nelson, Dr. William Wager and Weems Nursing Home in Apalachicola. She is survived by her husband, Deomes Aplin of Port St. Joe; two sons, Randall Aplin and wife Diane of Springsboro, Ohio; and Ronnie Aplin and wife Kathy of Richmond, Va.; one sister, Peggy Rhames of Burlington, N.C.; one brother, Curtis Hart of Beacon Hill; two granddaughters, Kelley and Katie Aplin of Richmond, Va.; four stepgrandchildren: Greg Watson of Austin, Texas; Brad Watson of Germany; Doug Watson of Arkansas; and Chris Watson of Springsboro, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services will be held Sunday, March 25, at Pleasant Rest Cemetery in Overstreet at 2 p.m. EST. Interment will follow. Visitation will be held today from 4 to 6 p.m. at Comforter Funeral Home.
