Effie Mae Weldon, 73, of Panama City, died May 13, 2001, at Gulf Coast Hospital. She was a lifelong resident of Bay County. She was preceded in death by one son, Charles Weldon and one daughter, Mary Anthony. She is survived by one son, Eddie C. Weldon and one daughter, Mary A. Battles, and one sister, Marie Wade and a host of friends, all of Panama City, Fla. Memorialization by cremation. Battle Funeral Memorial Funeral Home, 1123 Martin Luther King Blvd. is in charge of the arrangements.

JOSEPHINE BRIGGS
Josephine Briggs, 90 of Panama City, passed away Friday, May 27, 2001, at St. Andrew's rehabilitation center. She was a native of Queens, New York City, and had lived in Panama City for 11 years. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, and enjoyed being a wife, mother and grandmother. Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Wilson McAhren and husband James of Panama City; three grandchildren, James Wilson and wife Keri of Huntington, N.Y., Maureen Kelley and husband Jake of Dahlonega, Ga., and John Wilson of Panama City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Briggs; and a son, Franklin W. Briggs. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 29, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Father Andrew Lewandowski officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her name be made to the American Cancer Society, 2012-A Lisenby Ave., Panama City, FL 32405.

DORENE LOUISE BUSH
Mrs. Dorene Louise Bush, 77, of 713 Michigan Ave., Lynn Haven, Fla., passed away Monday, May 28, 2001, in a local hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Bush had been a resident of Bay County since 1960, coming here from San Diego, Calif. She served as a WAVE in the U.S. Navy, was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where she served as president of the Relief Society, and many other callings of the church. Mrs. Bush is survived by her husband of 54 years, Louie V. Bush of Lynn Haven; a son, Michael S. Bush of Lynn Haven; and daughter-in-law, Joanne Bush of Pensacola, Fla.; two daughters, Diane Cartwright and her husband Michael of Marshall, Mich., and Trish S. Jackson and her husband Richard of Panama City Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren, Kevin Miller, Jason Miller, Allison Cartwright, Kristin Bush and Ricky Jackson; two brothers, Allan K. Butler and wife Pat of Houston, Texas, and Jerry S. Butler and wife Nadine of Grand Prairie, Texas. Mrs. Bush was preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Spencer and Mable Butler, and a brother Spencer Butler. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Linton officiating. Interment will follow at Orange Hill United Methodist Church in Chipley, Fla. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Richard Jackson, Allan K. Butler, Jerry S. Butler, Michael Cartwright, Derek Peel and Mike Davis. The family will receive friends at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home today, May 29, from 6 to 8 p.m.

MARGIE CLANTON
Margie Clanton, 73, of Panama City, passed away Friday, May 25, 2001, at a local nursing facility. She was a native of Slocomb, Ala., and had lived in the area for the last 45 years. She was Baptist by faith and a dedicated housewife. Survivors include her sister, Eveline Scherer of Fort Myers, Fla., a half-sister, Imogene of West Palm Beach, Fla., a brother, Harold Halstead of Panama City; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Halstead officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, May 30, from 6 until 8 p.m.

LESLIE LEON ELAM
Leslie Leon Elam, 84, of 2 Sewanee Circle, Panama City, died Tuesday, May 28, 2001, in a local hospital. He was a retired electrician for a shipyard in Galveston, Texas. He had been a resident here since 1981, moving here from Galveston, Texas. He was a member of the Oakland Terrace Men's Club and the St. Andrew Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Elam, of Panama City; sons, Larry Elam and wife Judy of Panama City, Ronald Elam and wife Peggy of Bryan, Texas; grandchildren, Ryan Elam and wife Sharondy of San Diego, Calif., Robert Elam of Panama City Beach, Jody Elam, Christopher Elam and Jennifer Elam, all of Bryan; great-granddaughter, Bethany Elam of Tampa; stepsons, Jim Brown of Fort Myers, John C. Brown and wife Brenda of Jacksonville; stepgrandsons, Shane Brown of Panama City, Christopher Brown, Kenneth Brown, both of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews in Arkansas. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Dewey Davidson officiating. Interment will be Friday at 10 a.m. in Roselawn Cemetery in Calico Rock, Ark. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m. Those desiring to may make a donation to the Vision 21 program of St. Andrew Baptist Church in memory of Leslie Leon Elam.

ZOLA MAE FOREHAND
Mrs. Zola Mae Forehand, 87, of Chipley, Fla., passed away Saturday, May 26, 2001, at the Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley, Fla. She was of the Protestant faith and a member of the Church of God in Chipley. She was born April 12, 1914, to the late Tobe and Emma (Paul) Simmons in Samson, Ala. Funeral services will be held today, May 29, at 10 a.m. in Brown Chapel with the Rev. Rudolph Sims officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home of Chipley directing. Mrs. Forehand was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Forehand; son, Herman "Sonny" Weeks; and daughter, Wanda Palo. Survivors include her son, Sherman Weeks and wife, Rebecca, of Jones, Mich.; two daughters, Mary McKnight and husband, James, of Wewahitchka, and Glenda Scott, of Chipley; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

EMILY HUTCHMAN
Emily Hutchman, 73 of Lynn Haven, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2001, at her residence. She was a native of Mingo Junction, Ohio, and had lived in Bay County since 1987. During World War II she was drafted as a Navy welder working at the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Mill assembling ships for the war effort. She was predeceased by her husband of 32 years, Clark S. Hutchman and brothers A. Harry Bogard and Joseph Bogard. She is survived by two daughters, Cathy Rodes and husband Edwin of Lynn Haven and Lynne Kennedy and husband James of Stratton, Ohio; one son, Thomas Hutchman and wife Renee of Seattle, Wash.; one brother, George Bogard and wife Elsie of Mingo Junction; nine grandchildren: Matthew, Adam, Clark, Nicholas, Riley, Richard Patrick, Kimberly, James and Stacey; and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her name be made to the American Cancer Society, 2012-A Lisenby Ave., Panama City, FL 32405 or to the American Heart Association, P. O. Rev. Hugh K. Shepard, 89, of 611 Radcliff Ave., died Monday, May 28, 2001, in his home. He was a retired Advent Christian Church minister. He had been a resident here for a total of 50 years, moving here from North Carolina. He was a past Mason and a member of the Millville Advent Christian Church. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Richard Hugh Ellis. He is survived by his wife, Erma Jane Shepard of College Point; daughter, Barbara Ellis and husband, Paul of Lynn Haven; grandchildren, Scott Ellis of Panama City, Steve Ellis and wife Vicki of Beaumont, Texas, Connie Coggins and husband Bill of Greenville, N.C., Gary Ellis of Lynn Haven, Paulette Ellis of Maui, Hawaii; great-grandchildren, Jor-El Ellis of Iberia, Mo., Lisa Whittaker of Ayden, N.C., Rachel Ellis, Bonnie Ellis, both of Beaumont, Kristal Coggins, John Coggins, both of Greenville; six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Adrian Shepard officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m. Those desiring to may make a donation to the Advent Christian Church organ fund in memory of Rev. Hugh K. Shepard.

Mrs. Mearl W. "Mama Day" Davis, 92, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 27, 2001. Born in Geneva, Ala., she moved here in 1936 from Bonifay, Fla., and was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Her husband, Al "Doc" Davis and a granddaughter, Pamela Sue Fuller Quick, precede her in death. Mrs. Davis is survived by two sons, Aubrey Davis and wife Louise of Panama City, Fla., B.J. Davis and wife Helen of Eufaula, Ala.; three daughters, Wilma Fuller, Robbie Sims and husband Gene, Alecia Sanders and husband Curtis, all of Panama City; one sister, Betty Martin and husband George; 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, May 31, at 10 a.m. in Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Davis' grandsons will serve as pallbearers, Steve Sims, Ronnie Sims, Louie Consoli IV, Sam Denham, Barrv Davis and Al Davis. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. The family will be staying at 2702 Gornall Ave., Panama City.
