Sharon Smith, age 52 of Panama City Beach, passed away Friday, June 8, 2001, from injuries received in an automobile accident. She was a native of North Carolina, and had lived in the area since 1979, moving here from Douglasville, Ga. She was a homemaker, and was of the Lutheran faith. Survivors include two daughters, Lisa Hover and husband Phillip and Kimberley Smith, both of Panama City Beach; two sons, Jason Scott and Christopher Smith, both of Panama City Beach; three brothers, Steve Scott and Frankie Scott, both of Georgia, and Buck Scott of Alabama; two sisters, Carol Jacobson of Alabama and Tina Collins and her husband Jimmy of Tennessee; her mother, Maggie Robinson of Alabama; four grandchildren, Tiffany Scott, Christina Scott, Micheal Hover and Michelle Hover; and a host of nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, June 12, from 6 to 8 p.m In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family to help defray last expenses.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Searle V. Gray, 84, of Lynn Haven, Fla., will be held today at 3 p.m. in Forest Lawn Cemeery with the Rev. Jon Cupp officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2:30 p.m. before the funeral service.

MALZIE KEEL HOTTINGER
Malzie Keel Hottinger, 82, of Panama City, died Monday, June 11, 2001, in her home. She was born in Altha, Fla., and moved to Panama City when she was seven years old. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Hottinger; her parents, George W. and Betty Keel; two brothers, Vander Keel, Carl Keel; sister, Alvie Pinckney and a brother-in-law, Joe Pinckney. She is survived by a son, Kenneth Hottinger and his wife, Ruth of Fountain; grandson, Raymond Hottinger and his wife, Lenora of Bear Creek; four great-grandchildren, Bailey Hottinger, Alyssa Hottinger, Alissa Loucka, Zac Loucka; two sisters, Ruby Crowson, Florence Benton; sister-in-law, Nancy Keel, and six nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Nixon Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. today. Those desiring to may make a contribution to the Building fund of the Sand Hills Assembly of God.

JEWELL ELIZABETH HARMON POWELL
Funeral services for Jewell Elizabeth Harmon Powell, 87, who passed away June 11, 2001, at her daughter's home in Southport, will be held today at 2 p.m. in Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Joe Melvin Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Parker Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Eva Shoemaker, 1402 2nd St. Southport. Active pallbearers are Jerry Lee, Ray Thompson, Billy Joe Melvin Sr., Richard Turner and Luke Arrant.

SAXTON CULLEN RAINES
Saxton Raines, age 57, of Montgomery Ala., passed away Tuesday, June 5, after an extended illness. He is survived by a son, Jason Raines and his wife Gaile of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Alisa Knudsen and her husband Jim of Crestview Fla.; two brothers, Wallice Raines and his wife Ruth of Demopolis, Ala.; William (Bill) Raines of Greenhead, Fla.; a sister, Faye McCravy of Lynn Haven, Fla.; and six grandsons. Mr. Raines donated his body to the University of Alabama Medical School at Birmingham, Ala. Memorial services will be conducted by the Rev. Dennis Boyette on Saturday, June 16, at 2 p.m. at Liberty Church, Vernon, Fla. The church is located north of Vernon on Creek Road (Hwy 278) six miles west of Hwy 79. Those desiring may make memorial gifts to their local American Cancer Society.

Peggy Ann Lawrence Stewart, 61, of 401 East Mill Street, Hartford, Ala., joined her parents and her Lord on Sunday, June 10, 2001, following an automobile accident which occurred north of Hartford. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 14, at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Doug Jolly and Dr. Ralph Brannon officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Mrs. Stewart was born July 25, 1939, in McKenzie, Ala. to the Rev. Robert I. Lawrence and Nettie Lou Bradley Lawrence. She lived the early years of her life in Sweetwater and Blountstown, Fla. She attended Headland High School and was a 1957 graduate of Clayton High School. Mrs. Stewart was a graduate of Huntington College and later received her masters degree from the University of California at Irvine in Elementary Education. She resided in Dothan and taught school at Carver Middle School and Honeysuckle Middle School. Mrs. Stewart had recently retired from teaching after having taught 10 years with Alabama public schools, seven years with Florida public schools and also several years with Georgia and California public schools. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hartford. Mrs. Stewart loved teaching and loved her students. She also enjoyed being with her friends in square dancing and playing dominos. Those remaining to cherish her memory include her three children and their spouses, a son, James (Jay) L. Stewart Jr. and Merry, Chipley, Fla.; daughters, Brenda Stewart Hamamura and Glen, Navarre, Fla.; Sharon Rosina Stewart Ivanoff and Jeff, Navarre. Grandchildren include Jacob and Erin Stewart; Brandon, Carter, and Carol Hamamura; Shelby, Seth, Mathew, and Jeremiah Ivanoff. Brothers and sisters include Mary Elsie Beall, Gainsville, Bob Lawrence (Viola), Lakeland, John C. Lawrence (Audie), Clayton, Ga., Carolyn Oakes (Charles G.), Nashville, Tenn., Lex Lawrence, Mobile, Ala., Virginia Reid (George) Bellwood, Ala. Also included is a host of nieces and nephews.

ELTON BROWN
Elton Brown, age 93, of Westville, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2001.Funeral services will be held Friday, June 15, 2001, at 10 a.m. at Westville Community Church with the Rev. Dan Padgett officiating. Burial will be in Westville Cemetery with Sims Funeral Home directing. Mr. Sims is survived by a son, Buddy Brown of Westville; two sisters, Dorothy Ellis of Tampa and Minton Epperson of Leesburg and a sister-in-law, Tommy Brown of Chipley.

HERBERT C. DEAN
Mr. Herbert C. Dean, age 86, of Panama City, Fla., died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at a local hospital. He had been a resident of the area since 1957, coming here from Chattahoochee, Fla. He was also a resident of St. Andrew Health and Rehabilitation. Mr. Dean was an electrician for the I.B.E.W. Union and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his son, James C. Dean and his wife Fleta of Panama City; a daughter, Bettie Bailey and her husband Donald of Eustis, Fla.; a sister, Melissa Maxwell of Cairo, Ga.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Irene M. Dean. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 15, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Bob Lucas Jr. officiating. Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 3007 W. 14th St., Panama City, Fla., 32401 or to your favorite charity. Mr. Dean's family expresses a heartfelt thanks for excellent care given by St. Andrew Health and Rehabilitation and Bay Medical Center MICU and pulmonary units, and Drs. Elshazly and Ortega.

EARL RAY DUNCAN
Earl Ray Duncan, 79, of Panama City, died June 13, 2001, in a local hospital. He was born in Carroll County, Ga., and attended grade and high school in Roopville, Ga. He also attended the University of Georgia and graduated from Stetson University Law School in 1949. He came to Panama City after his graduation in 1950, where he practiced law until his retirement in 1983. He was active for many years in St Andrews Men's Civic Club. He was a member of the St. Andrew United Methodist Church. He was also involved in helping securing the library. He was preceded in death by his wife, May Barker Duncan and his parents, Augustus and Tempe Duncan; brothers, Clyde, Paul, Horrie and his wife, Dera Duncan. He is survived by a sister, Merle Gulatt and husband Jim; sister-in-law, Gladys Duncan; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Andrew United Methodist Church with the Rev. Edward Britton officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the church. Interment will be Saturday at 11 a.m. EDT in Carroll Memory Gardens, Carrollton, Ga. Those desiring to may make a contribution to your favorite charity in memory of Earl Ray Duncan.

DORIS P. PARRISH
Mrs. Doris P. Parrish, 81, a resident of Glen Cove Nursing Pavilion, formally of 3909 W. 25th Court, Panama City, died Tuesday evening, June 12, 2001, in a local hospital. She was born in Dothan, Ala., and was a 40-year member of Springfield Community Church. Mrs. Parrish was an active ladies missionary with multiple talents. She was a devoted Christian woman to God, her husband, church, family and friends. Mrs. Parrish is survived by her husband, Capt. Leroy Parrish of Panama City; four children, Dianne Barnes and husband A.J. of Southport, Henry L. Parrish and wife Charlotte of Cedar Grove, Sharron Newhouse of St. Andrews, Fla., and David Michael Parrish and Linda of Fountain; four grandchildren, Kim Adams and husband David of Lynn Haven, Robert Parrish and wife Stephanie of Springfield, Michael Parrish and wife Tina of Bear Creek, Fla., Marcus Parrish and wife Marlene of Fountain; three great-grandchildren, Kenley Adams, Brandon Parrish and Destiny Parrish; one sister, Ethylene Hall of Columbus; one brother, Woodrow Green and wife Gwen of Panama City Beach; one sister-in-law, Rosa Mae Payne of Columbus, Ga. and numerous nieces, nephews and beloved friends. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, June 15, at 2 p.m. in Springfield Community Church with the Rev. T.A. Green officiating. Interment will follow in Lynn Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 5 to 7 p.m. In the presence of her beloved Savior, she will be forever in our hearts.
