Funeral services for Mr. Alton L. Tenney, age 74, of 134 Arlington Dr., Panama City, Fla., who died Thursday, June 14, 2001, will be held at 2 p.m., today, June 16, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.

JAMES EDWARD BENTON
James E. Benton, Col. U.S.A.F. (retired) born in Coffee Springs, Ala. on April 15, 1922, and died June 13, 2001. Jim entered Army Air Corps on Feb. 8, 1944. He served his country in many capacities for 30 years and was most proud of being a fighter pilot. He retired March 31, 1972. Jim loved his family, loved his country, the Air Force, golf and sailing. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, George Benton and Gladys Quails Benton; his stepmother of many years, Dot Bunn Benton; his first wife, Vivian Grimes Benton, the mother of Jim's four children; his sisters, Peggy Benton Nadashcavich and Elizabeth Benton Cashdollar. He is survived by his children, Judy Benton Neal and husband, Jack of Parker, Texas; Nancy Benton Nunn and her husband, Billy of Lynn Haven, Fla.; Jim Benton Jr. and his wife, Darlene of Woodstock, Ga. and Mark Benton and his wife, Karen of Panama City, Fla.; his grandchildren, Stephanie Benton, Jennifer Johnson, Sam Nunn, Dustin Benton and Brooke Benton. His wife of ten years, Nancy T. Benton and her children, Brenda Morgan Schaffer and husband Mark and Scott Morgan, and her grandchildren, Michael Morgan and Cayla Morgan. There will be a graveside service at Barrancas National Cemetery on Pensacola Naval Air Station, Monday June 18, 2001, at 11:45 a.m. Donations to Hospice, to District 14, in Jim's name will be appreciated.

Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Guynn, age 68, of 425 N. Comet Ave., Panama City, Fla., who died Tues., June 12, 2001, will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, June 18, 2001, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Callaway on Lake Avenue, with Elder Glenn Adams, Elder Johnny Brock, and Elder Billie Rosser officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home, today, June 17, 2001 from 3 to 5 p.m. Asked to serve as pallbearers are Norm Keesler, Jerry Davis, Bob O'Hare, Austin Davis, Wilmer Broxton and Robert Clements.

ESTELLE ARNOLD JACOBS
Mrs. Estelle Arnold Jacobs, 88, of Lynn Haven, Fla., died Friday, June 15, 2001, in a local hospital. Born in Houston County Ala., she moved here in 1945. She was a retired employee of Bay District School System, working at Lynn Haven Elementary school as a food service worker. Mrs. Jacobs was a member of First Baptist Church of Lynn Haven, where she was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday school class. She was a also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the White Shrine and the Rebekkah Lodge Zollie Young Court No. 72 of the Amaranth. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Victor Arnold and Ray Jacobs. Mrs. Jacobs is survived by one son, Richard Arnold and wife, Gena of Panama City; two daughters, Charlotte Dean and husband, James of Flintstone, Ga., and Shirley Barnes and husband, James of Lynn Haven; two brothers, Kermit Avery and wife, Doris and Lonie Avery and wife, Jonnie all of Panama City; five grandchildren, Becky Barnes, Chris Barnes, Brenda Phillips (husband Bubba), Rene Cannon (husband Todd) and Jimmy Dean; two great-grandchildren, Tiffany Phillips and Melissa Phillips. Funeral services will be conducted today, June 17, 2001, at 2:30 p.m. in First Baptist Church of Lynn Haven with the Rev. Jim Kirkland officiating. Interment will follow in Lynn Haven Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Lynn Haven in memory of Mrs. Jacobs.

COLLIE D. MC CALL
Mr. Collie D. McCall, age 73, of Panama City, passed away Friday, June 15, 2001, at his residence. He lived most of his life in Bay county and attended Springfield Community Church. He is survived by his wife, Nancy McCall of Panama City; three daughters, Angelia Lewis and husband, David of Florida, Mary Richardson and husband, Ricky and Melisa Slaughter and husband, Bob of Panama City; two sons, Billy Don McCall and Collie D. McCall, both of Panama City; two sisters, Lila Mae McManus and Martha Coronada, both of Panama City; one brother, Edward Patterson of Tampa; 14 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Patterson. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 18, 2001, from the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today, June 17, 2001.

CHARLOTTE M. PALMER
Charlotte M. Palmer, age 72, of Lynn Haven, passed away Saturday, June 16, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker, and had lived in the area since 1975, when her husband retired from the U.S. Navy. She enjoyed traveling around the country in motor homes and travel trailers, and was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Richard Palmer of Lynn Haven; one son, Jeffrey Richard Palmer of West Chicago, Ill; two sisters, Jackie Hilgers of Madison, Wis., and Sue Laudon of Oshkosh, Wis., and one grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 21, from graveside in Evergreen Memorial Gardens with Father William Brown officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, with a rosary service at 7 p.m.

WILTON EUGENE SLOAN
Chaplain (Major) Wilton Eugene Sloan, U.S. Army, retired, age 81, of Panama City, passed away June 14, 2001, after a long illness. Chaplain Sloan served in the U.S. Army for 22 years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a young man during WWII. After the war he attended Mississippi College, Clinton, Miss., where he earned a Bachelor's degree in theology; then New Orleans Seminary for a Master's degree in religious education. He also earned a Master's degree in psychology from Florida State University. Chaplain Sloan returned to the Army in 1953, graduating from Chaplain's School at Fort Hamilton N.Y. He served during the Korean and Viet Nam wars, with assignments overseas on Okinawa, France, Germany and numerous assignments in the United States. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Panama City. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Eula Sloan of Panama City; his son, Wilton E. Sloan, Jr. and wife, Mary Ann; granddaughter, Erica Strong; great-grandson Adam Strong, and grandson Matthew Sloan of Naples, Fla.; a daughter, Patricia Embrey, granddaughters, Deborah, Cynthia and Angela, and two great-grandchildren of Burleson, Texas; sisters, Roma Fleming of Douglasville, Ga., and Mary Ola Van Atta of Warner Robbins, Ga.; and his devoted and faithful caregiver for 8 years, Delores Busby. He was preceded in death by his parents, S.E. "Clyde" and Oley Sloan and his sister, Bernice Carter of Panama City. Funeral services will be conducted by a chaplain from Fort Rucker, Ala., and the Rev. Adolph Bedsole of Panama City at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 18, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday morning from 9 a.m. until service time at 10 a.m.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dora Knight Smith, age 102, of Panama City, who passed away Friday at a local nursing facility will be held at 2 p.m. today, June 17, at the First Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Allen Crabtree officiating. She will be transferred to Hamlet, N.C. for funeral services and burial. The family received friends at the funeral home on Saturday, June 16, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mr. Cicero Wood, 78, of Springfield, passed away Saturday morning. He worked as a commercial fisherman and a rehabilitation counselor. He was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth Wood and Ricky Wood, and two brothers, M.C. Wood and L.C. Wood. Survivors include three sons, Steve Wood and wife, Gwen of Highland View, John Roland Wood and Raymond Wood and wife, Debra of St. Joe Beach; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Gabe Wood of Highland View, Carl Wood of St. Joe Beach, Lynn Wood and Max Wood, both of Highland View. Arrangements are incomplete at this time.

CHARLES LAMAR 'SAM' GRANT
Charles Lamar (Sam) Grant, 72, of 1919 Monroe Avenue, Panama City, died Saturday, July 16, 2001. He had been a resident of Panama City since 1946 moving here from Donaldsville, Ga. He had worked for Hal Coggins Paint and Supply for 44 years before working at Color and Equipment Inc. the past 6 years. He was a member of the St. Andrew Baptist Church. His favorite hobbies were family first, fishing second, and car racing third. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret C. Grant, of Panama City; two daughters, Carolyn Grant Beach and her husband, Wayne of Panama City, Susyn Grant Kitner and her husband, Brian of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; three grandchildren, Patrick Talley, Christen Barron and her husband, Tommy, all of Panama City, Leslie Freund of Altamonte Springs; and his special buddy, Oscar. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dan Harrison and the Rev. Ivan Beach officiating. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Those desiring to, may make a contribution to the American Heart Association in memory of Sam Grant.

Ollie Pace, 88, of Port St. Joe, departed this life to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 13, 2001. He will be greatly missed by his family and loved ones. He was a member of Thomson Temple First Born Church of The Living God, and a longtime resident of Port St. Joe. Survivors include his daughter, Katie Davis Moxley of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mattie Brown, of Delaware, Ida Pace, of Philadelphia, and Essie May Pew, of New Jersey; one brother, Willie Bo Pace, of New Jersey; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. EDT at Thomson Temple First Born Church of The Living God, with interment to follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. He will lie in state at the church Tuesday from 12 to 2 p.m. EDT.
