ROOSEVELT BROWN SR.
Mr. Roosevelt Brown Sr., 77, of 704 Bay Avenue, Panama City, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2001. A native of Macon, Ga., he had been a resident of this area for almost 50 years. Born January 8, 1924, he was the only child of Charlie and Ola Mae Brown. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his personal savior and united with the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Quincy, Fla. He attended public schools in Georgia. Upon moving to this area with his family, he was employed with the Florida Asphalt Company, a position he held until his retirement following 25 years of service. His wife, Nadine, and three of his 11 children, Mary Stanley, Johnny Robinson and Theresa Brown preceded him in death. Mr. Brown is survived by eight devoted children, Barbara Comer, Annie J. Brown, Sclynda Brown, Darrell Brown, Roosevelt Brown Jr. and Brenda Russ and her husband, Leon, all of Panama City, Charlene Adams and her husband, Samuel, of Brundidge, Ala., L.C. Brown and his wife, Kalelia, of Greensboro, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Mattie Robinson of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a brother-in-law, David Robinson of Washington, D.C.; 40 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and special friends. Funeral services for Mr. Brown will be held on Monday, June 25, 2001, at 1 p.m. in the St. John Baptist Church with Pastor Delwynn G. Willliams officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church today from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and again on Monday, from 10 a.m. to service time. The family will receive relatives and friends at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Leon Russ, 712 E. Thirteenth Court.

HAROLD RICHARD 'DICK' DAVIS
Lt. Commander Harold Richard "Dick" Davis, U.S. Navy retired, age 84 of Panama City, passed away June 22 at a local hospital. He was a native of Choudrant, La., and had lived in the Panama City area since 1962, moving here from New Orleans. He was a retired Lt. Commander, a Pearl Harbor Survivor and a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, earning a Purple Heart for injuries received during battle. He was a member of Cook Memorial Baptist Church, the St. Andrews Masonic Lodge No. 212, the Scottish Rite, Shaddai Shrine Temple, AAONMS, the Order of the Amaranth, and the Zollie Young High Twelve Masonic Lodge. He also was a member of the Oakland Terrace Men's Club, the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association , USS California. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth "Libby" Murphy and husband, Ray of Panama City; a son, Charles Emanuel and wife, Anita of Fountain; his adopted daughters, Shirley Colson of Virginia, and Jeanette Williams and Sharon Ford, both of Panama City; a nephew, Jim Ford of Raleigh, N.C.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Alma Davis. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 26, at the Kent- Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Morris Denman officiating. Interment with full military honors and Masonic Rites will follow from Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 25. If you wish, contributions may be made to the Cook Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund in his name. The family will be staying at the home of his daughter and son-in-law Libby and Ray Murphy. The family extends special thanks to the staff of the Glen Cove Nursing Pavilion for their devoted care of our loved one. The St. Andrews Masonic Lodge No. 212 will open at 1 p.m. Tuesday before the service.

WILMA DAY
Mrs. Wilma Day, age 76 of 9733 Creek Road, Youngstown, Fla., passed away Saturday morning at her residence. She was a native of Decatur, Ga., and had lived in the Panama City area since 1964 moving here from Bainbridge, Ga. She was a member of the Calvary Temple Assembly of God, and enjoyed fishing, gardening and going to church. She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Davis and husband, Leland of Youngstown and Doris Grainger and husband, Ray of Callaway; four sons, Tommy E. Day and wife, Aleene of Lynn Haven, Vernon J. Day and wife, Lanice of Panama City, Kenneth E. Day and wife, Janice of Panama City, and Bobby Boutwell and wife, Linda of Albany, Ga.; three sisters, Janie Willis of Cairo, Ga., Leona Roland of South Carolina, and Lorraine Glover of Seffner, Fla.; 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. today, June 24, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dewey Meyers and the Rev. Bobby Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Asked to serve as pallbearers are Brian Grainger, Mark Grainger, Adam Davis, Aaron Zembellas, Adam Day, Sam Day and Jason Day. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3 to 4 p.m today.

MRS. FLOYD P. 'BUBBA' GORE
Mrs. Floyd P. "Bubba" Gore, age 88 of Callaway, passed away Friday, June 22, at her residence. She was a native of Alabama, and had lived in the Panama City area most of her life. She was retired from Boyd Brothers Printing Company and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Callaway, where she taught Sunday School in the Children's Department for many years and was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Elizabeth Peacock; her loving husband, John B. Gore; a baby sister; a brother, Cecil Peacock; a sister, Opal Burch; sons-in-law, Broward R. Brown and Randolph C. Moses; and her son, Bobby H. Hammonds. She is survived by a daughter, Betty Sue Moses of Callaway; grandchildren, Sonya B. Klingensmith and husband, John of Callaway; Cary Moses and wife, Jackie of Callaway, Larry Moses and wife, Sharon of Callaway; Brian Hammonds of Palatka, Fla.; David Hammonds of Tallahassee, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Shronda Myers of Callaway; Jana Klingensmith Fabjon and husband, Michael of Callaway; Amanda and Coleman Moses of Callaway; Olivia and Joshua Ray of Callaway; Marie Klingensmith Hood and husband, David of Gainesville, Ga.; and Jason Klingensmith and wife, Stacy of Southport; great-great- grandchildren, Kaitlyn Myers of Callaway, Jocelyn Fabjon of Callaway, Jordan Hood of Gainesville, Ga., and Travis and David Klingensmith of Southport; two sisters, Gladys Moses and Gertrude Waters and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 25, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Nathan S. Keen and the Rev. J.E. Hodges officiating. Interment will follow in the Callaway Cemetery. Asked to serve as pallbearers are her grandsons, John E. Klingensmith, II, Cary L. Moses, Larry C. Moses, Michael A. Fabjon, Brian H. ARTHUR PHIL 'YANK' LANFORD
Mr. Arthur Phil "Yank" Lanford, age 82, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Friday, June 22, 2001, at a local nursing facility. Mr. Lanford was born July 1, 1918, in Ninety Six, S.C., and came to Florida at the age of 10. He graduated from Vernon High School in Vernon, Fla., and went to the University of Florida in 1936 for two years. Mr. Lanford worked at Heath Motor and Supply Co. until 1942. He then went into the U.S. Air Force from June, 1942 until December, 1945. He finished his years of service as a TechSgt. with the 20th Air Force 313 Wing 9th Bomb Group 99th Squadron. Mr. Lanford then worked for Auto Parts and Bearing Co. for 19 years. He was self-employed for 10 years, and retired as superintendent of the Vehicle Maintenance Dept. of Bay County. Mr. Lanford coached Little League baseball for 18 years, midget football for six years, all in Panama City, and was a football official for 12 years. He was a member of St. Andrew Baptist Church. He joined the Acme Lodge No. 222 in 1954 and was a member of the 32 Degree of Scottish Rite, starting with Cecil Dickson, the Masonic Widows Fund in 1955. Mr. Lanford is survived by his wife, Alice Allen Lanford of Panama City, Fla.; two sons, Phil Lanford and his wife, Janet of Port St. Joe and Brett Lanford and his wife, Stephanie of Panama City, Fla.; two daughters, Alice Branch and her husband, Jimmy of Panama City, Fla., and Jan Hannon and her husband, Jim of Atlanta, Ga.; 14 grandchildren, Charlie Lanford and Julie Lanford of Port St. Joe, Fla., Alicia Branch, Allan Branch, Lauren Branch, Lacy Branch and John Branch, all of Panama City, Fla., Blaire Hannon and Darcy Hannon of Atlanta, Ga., Brittany Lanford, Amy Lanford, Danielle Lanford, Noah Lanford and Cassidy Lanford, all of Panama City, Fla.; one brother, L.W. Lanford of Lynn Haven, Fla.; and a special family friend, Maureen Austin of Panama City, Fla. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2001, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ken Solomon and the Rev. Dennis Pledger officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Greg Brudnicki, Matthew Brudnicki, Jeff Brudnicki, David Johnson, Bill Allen, Jody Brookins, Richard Ogburn and Al Harris. Honorary pallbearers will include all the former baseball and football players that Yank coached; all members of Acme Lodge No. 22, members of Adult I co-ed Sunday School Class of St. Andrew Baptist Church; Adam Brudnicki, Ben Brudnicki, Doyle Kirkland, Wallace Decker, Mitchell Holman, Mark Holman, Terry Parker, Joe Tucker, Dr. Victor Ortega, Dr. Michael McCormick, Dr. Neal Dunn, Dr. Rodney Morris, Dr. Sylvia Thomas and Dr. Pete Windham. The family will receive friends at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home today, June 24, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Rescue Mission, the St. Andrew Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Hospice of Northwest Florida.

Mr. Charlie Caper Taylor, age 78, of Panama City, Fla., passed away, Thursday, June 21, 2001, at a local nursing facility. He has been a lifelong resident of the area and was Protestant by faith. Mr. Taylor is survived by his son, Charles F. Taylor of Panama City, Fla.; a brother, Willie N. Taylor of Panama City, Fla.; a sister, Nellie Maurer of Tampa, Fla.; and one grandson. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2001, at Sandy Mountain Cemetery in Fountain, Fla., with the Rev. Nixon Riley and the Rev. Nixon Miller officiating. CORA LEE CRIDER
Cora Lee Crider entered Heaven's gate June 21, 2001. Cora was born June 10, 1902, in London, Ky., and had been a resident of Pensacola since 1973. She was a member of the Worship Center Church of God. Cora shared in the ministry work of her late husband, was a wonderful homemaker and mother of 12 children. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, the Rev. Newton Crider; three sons, Luster, A.J. and C.H.; one daughter, Shirley White; one granddaughter, Valerie Tice; and one great-grandson, Johnny Tice. Cora will be sadly missed but forever remembered by three sons, William and Charles of Panama City, and Robert Del Rio of Texas; five daughters, Roberta Neff of Panama City, Alena McCurry of Lebanon, Ohio, Della Ward and Mary Hendrix of Pensacola and Barbara Rosetta of Groves, Texas. Cora also leaves four sons-in-law; three daughters-in-law; 36 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be grandsons of Mrs. Crider. Services for Cora Lee Crider will be at the Faith Chapel Funeral Home in Pensacola at 10 a.m. today, June 25. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. in the Evergreen Cemetery in Panama City.
