Mr. Hodges D. Jones, age 51, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Monday, July 2, 2001, at his residence. He was a native of Wrightsville, Ga., and had lived in Bay County for 16 years. Mr. Jones was retired as a staff sargeant after 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Vietnam Era. He was employed as a personnel specialist at Tyndall Air Force Base. Mr. Jones was the coach for the Tyndall All Stars men's softball team and had been active as a coach for many years. He had attended First Baptist Church of Callaway. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Vivian Jones of Panama City, Fla. Two sons, John H. Jones and Hodges Jones Jr., both of Panama City, Fla.; a daughter, Jessica A. Jones of Panama City, Fla.; three brothers, Ronald Outlaw, Mike Outlaw and James Outlaw, all of Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Olivia Outlaw of New York City, N.Y.; mother, Mary Outlaw of Tampa, Fla.; and his father, Willie Hicks of California. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 6, 2001, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Robbins officiating. Entombment will follow at Garden of Memories with full military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Thursday, July 5, 2001, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

MELBA M. WATERS
Mrs. Melba M. Waters, age 83, of 405 Maine Ave., Panama City, Fla., died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at her home. She had been a resident of the area since 1933, coming here from Walton County, Fla. Mrs. Waters was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and was a retired teacher's aide. She is survived by her sons, Buster A. Waters and his wife Mary Ann of Panama City, Fla., Robert Craig Waters and his wife Mary of Cullodon, Ga., and Brion E. Waters and his wife Janet of Macon, Ga.; daughters, Patricia A. Wright, Donna Spann and her husband James R., all of Panama City, Fla., Wanda McSwiney and her husband Michael D. of North Pole, Alasla, Martha Waters of Atlanta, Ga., and Dolores Waters of Panama City, Fla.; a sister, Emma Sue Morrison of Sulfur Springs, Texas; 20 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Adolph Bedsole officiating. Interment will follow at Callaway Cemetery. MELTON KIRKLAND
Mr. Melton Kirkland, age 81, of 8343 Angie Circle, Panama City, Fla., died Monday, July 2, 2001, at a local hospital. He had been a lifetime resident of the area and a member of Central Pentecostal Ministries. Mr. Kirkland is survived by his daughters, Joe Ann Burkett and Dot Henderson, both of Panama City, Fla., Sybil Lane of Spartanburg, S.C., and Peggy Bozeman of Panama City, Fla.; sons, Delane Henderson and Bobby Henderson, both of Spartanburg, S.C., and Preston Kirkland of Panama City, Fla.; a brother, Moody Kirkland of Panama City, Fla.; 21 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Shoots officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, July 4, 2001, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.

J.D. DAVIS
Mr. J.D. Davis of Panama City, Fla., age 93, died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at a local nursing home. He had been a resident of the area for 74 years, moving here from Barbour County, Ala. Mr. Davis was a member of the Parkway Baptist Church. He retired as a glass installer. Mr. Davis is survived by one sister, Annie Jane Williams of Fairfield Glade, Tenn.; five stepchildren, Jeanie Donoghue of Panama City, Fla., Alma O. Knowles of Panama City, Fla., Dan Kirkland and his wife Christine of Panama City, Fla., Bill Kirkland and his wife Linda of Panama City, Fla., Jimmi Richards and her husband Barry of Homossassa Springs, Fla.; one sister- in-law, Bertie Lee Davis of Columbus, Ga.; one son-in-law, Bill Welnick of Panama City, Fla.; nine nieces, Peggy Boling and her husband Francis of Panama City, Fla., Sue Kemp and her husband Ed of Mobile, Ala., Shirley Harris and her husband Charles of Columbus, Ga., Jo Ann Hedbawny and her husband Ed of Fairfield Glade, Tenn., Winifred Crockett of Columbus, Ga., Naomi Register of Bonifay, Fla., Corine Clark and her husband Max of Crestview, Fla., Louise Smalshof of Columbus, Ga., and Gene Jacobs of Columbus, Ga.; six nephews, Jim Williams and his wife Michelle of Durham, N.C., Keith Williams and his wife Karen of Pensacola, Fla., Gregory Crockett of Columbus, Ga., Wayne Register of Bonifay, Fla., Roger Davis of Columbus, Ga., and Ronnie Whittaker and his wife Tresa of Columbus, Ga.; 10 stepgrandchildren, Tracy, Jeff, Tim, Mark, Joey, Kathy, Karrie, Kim, Bill Jr. and June; 13 stepgreat-grandchildren, Stephanie, Christina, Tiffany, Ashley, Nate, Timmy, Katie, Amanda, Natalie, Kelly, Dillon, Brandon and Stephanie. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Martha Davis; his wives, Sadie Raffield Davis, Blanche Kirkland Davis and Ouida Pickens Davis; sisters, Jackie Davis, Elma Price, Inez Register, Cora Lee Whittaker and Elberta Crockett; brother, Mancy Davis; stepson, Bobby Kirkland; stepdaughter, Bernice Pennington Welnick; and a brother-in-law, Hiram Whittaker of Columbus, Ga. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 5, 2001, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Buddy Glass officiating. The interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. DONALD HENRY PENNY
Mr. Donald Henry Penny, age 59, of Southport, Fla., died Saturday, June 30, 2001, at his home. Mr. Penny was a lifelong resident of Southport and was Baptist by faith. He was the owner and operator of Penny's Seafood in Southport, Fla., and prior to that he was employed by Byrd and Son Bottling Co. for 18 years. Mr. Penny was a member of Harry Jackson Masonic Lodge No. 314 of Lynn Haven, Fla., the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, S.J., USA, the Southport Men's Club and the Shaddai Shrine Temple. Mr. Penny is survived by his wife, Sharon Penny of Southport, Fla.; two daughters, Beth Penny Morrell and her husband Brian of Southport, Fla., and Joy Hobson and her husband Chuck of Southport, Fla.: three grandchildren, Cameron Hobson, Jesse Hobson and Brantley Morrell, all of Southport, Fla.; four brothers, William Penny and his wife Fern of Southport, Fla., Johnny Penny and his wife Laura of Southport, Fla., Jack Penny and his wife Bobbi of Southport, Fla., and Glen Penny and his wife Sheila of Lynn Haven, Fla.; five sisters, Doris Tatum and her husband Leonard of Lynn Haven, Fla., Edna Tatum of Panama City, Fla., Ruthie Miller and her husband Billy of Southport, Fla., Linda Davis and her husband Clark of Panama City, Fla., and Ann Walsingham and her husband Nolan of Panama City, Fla.; Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Interment will follow at the Southport Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rodney Dykes, Mike Dykes, Jimmy Dutton, Bobby Buchanan, H.E. Ellis and Kenny Hayes. Mr. George F. Rung Jr., 79, of Palos Heights, Ill., and Panama City Beach, Fla., for the past 21 years, died Thursday, June 28, 2001, in Panama City Beach. Beloved husband of Majoree Cashman Rung; loving father of George F. Rung III and wife Christine, Krista M. Graziano and the late Lisa R. Davis; fond grandfather of George F. Rung IV, Melissa M. Davis, Anthony P. Graziano and Timothy G. Graziano; and fond friend of many. A memorial service will be conducted on Friday, July 6, 2001, at 7 p.m. in the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.

MARY LEE DAVIS
Mary Lee Davis, born Mary Lee Deal, daughter of John A. Deal, wife of the late Walter Davis, was born Dec. 17, 1913, near Dothan, Ala., and passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2001. Mary moved to Altha, Fla., in 1938. She married Walter Davis in June 1939 and moved to Chattahoochee, Fla., later coming to Panama City in 1942. She lived at 543 Powell Ave. from 1947 until her death. She was the mother of Wayne Davis of Birmingham, Ala., Dwight Davis of Sarasota, Fla., Lucky Davis and Stevie Davis, both of Springfield, and the late John Davis of Springfield, who died June 9, 1998. Her husband Walter died Jan. 3, 1996. Mary worked at the Springfield School lunchroom for 10 years. She was a very active member of Springfield Baptist Church for 50 years, working as a Sunday school teacher until being homebound. She and Walter traveled from 1973 until 1993 in motor homes all over the United States working with the Corps of Engineers at campgrounds. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Michelle Johnson, Sean Davis, Amy Hicks, Sandra Davis, Jonathan Davis, Nikki Davis, Jeremy Davis, Abby Davis, Stacy Davis, Sheila Davis, Tommy Lee Davis and Audrey Davis; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Aubrey Davis; four sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, and lots of special people she loved. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2001, at Springfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy Chewing officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m. Asked to serve as pallbearers are Dewayne Hicks, Sean Davis, Michael Hicks, Jeffery Geohagan, Wesley Hicks and Kyle Mitchell.

FAYE E. BOYKIN
Mrs. Faye E. (Foster) Boykin, 66, of Mexico Beach, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at her home. She formerly lived in the metro Atlanta area until moving here over 20 years ago, and was a member of Beach Baptist Chapel. Survivors include her husband, Charles Boykin of Mexico Beach; daughter, Virginia F. Firth and husband Richard of Dallas, Ga.; son, James "Larry" Foster of Jones Homestead; daughter, Donna Foster Murnan of St. Joe Beach; sister, Joyce Cook of Union City, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous friends; and her dog, Little Girl. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 7, 2001, at 1 p.m. ET at Beach Baptist Chapel conducted by the Rev. David Nichols. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Beach Baptist Chapel.

WALTER C. "WALT" BUCHHOLTZ
Walter C. "Walt" Buchholtz, age 72 of Panama City, passed away July 4, 2001, at a local nursing facility. He had been a resident of Panama City since 1979, and was retired after 30 years of service as a structural engineer with the Department of Defense. Mr. Buchholtz was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, the Beach Optimist Club, and was a former commissioner, Lake Sands District, Boy Scouts of America. He was an avid stamp collector and a member of the Stamp Club of Panama City. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Margaret D. Buchholtz of Panama City; two sons, Walter F. Buchholtz and wife Janet of Southlake, Texas, and Eric W. Buchholtz and wife Barbara of Cary, N.C.; one daughter, Gretchen K. Norris and husband Bob of Crestview, Fla.; one sister, Christine B. Carlson and husband William of Lakewood, Colo.; and seven grandchildren, Byron, Jason, Ryan, Kristen, Kira, Zachary and Devon. Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2001, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wes Toncre officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Walt's name be made to the American Heart Association.
