Mrs. Agnes L. Mortz, age 76, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2001 at her home. She has been a resident of the area for 17 years, coming here from Franklin, Mass. Mrs. Mortz was retired from the Corning Medical Equipment Division in Medfield, Mass., working in quality control. She enjoyed crafting, cooking and being with her family and was Catholic by faith. Mrs. Mortz is survived by a son: John Mortz and his wife Phyliss of Panama City, Fla.; daughters: Pamela Brown and Annette Mitchell and her husband Ronald, all of Panama City, Fla.; brothers: Richard Sarno and his wife Ruth of Jacksonville, Fla., and James Lomuscio and his wife Jackie of Webster, Mass.; a sister: Ann Alongi of Woburn, Mass.; grandchildren: Heather Retherford and her husband Steve, Kelly Keefe and her husband Dennis, Michelle Mortz, and Lanae Mortz, all of Panama City, Fla., and Christina Mitchell of Brockton, Mass.; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and several close friends. She was preceded in death by her husband: John R. Mortz, Sr. and a daughter: Theresa Mortz. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2001 at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sue Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Steve Sexton, Stanley Sexton, Bart Brawshaw, Nat Van Dyke, Dwight Rightenour, and Jim Torrible. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, July 6, 2001 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

FRANCES DORIS PADGETT
Ms. Frances Doris Padgett, age 92, of Panama City, Fla., died Wednesday, July 4, 2001 at a local hospital. She has been a resident of the area since 1988, moving here from Brunswick, Ga. Ms. Padgett was a member of the Eastern Star and First Baptist Church, both in Brunswick, Ga., and Northside Baptist Church in Panama City, Fla. She was the past president of her Sunday school class at Northside Baptist. Ms. Padgett loved flowers and spending time with her family and her church. She is survived by her son: Ben Padgett and his wife Terri of Marietta, Ga.; a daughter; Betty Mathews and her husband Jack of Panama City, Fla.; a grandson: Jay Padgett, III of Marietta, Ga.; granddaughters: Natalie Padgett of Marietta, Ga., Cheryl Beote and her husband John A. of Lakeland, Fla., Judy Mitchell and her husband Michael of Panama City, Fla., Laura Emanuel and her husband Chuck of Jacksonville, Fla., and Maggie Cope and her husband David of Panama City, Fla.; great-grandchildren: Catherine, Tommy, Kristi, Kerri, Michelle, Jenny, Mathew, and Joshua; and one great-great-grandchild: Mackenzie. Funeral services will be held 4:30 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2001 at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lewis Miller officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home an hour prior to service time. Graveside Funeral Services will be held 3 p.m. EDT, Sunday, July 8, 2001 at Palmetto Cemetery in Brunswick, Ga., with Rev. Darrell Joiner officiating. Interment will follow.

MATTHEW POWELL
Matthew Powell went to be with the Lord on July 3, 2001. He was 75 years old. Matthew had been a resident of Panama City, Fla., since 1965, moving here from Mobile, Ala. Matthew or Mack as he was known by his friends, was born Jan. 9, 1926 in Evergreen, Ala. Matthew served his country in the Marine Corps in the Philippines during World War II. He spent many years working civil service. He always loved automobiles and went to work in the auto parts business. He worked a number of years for American Auto Parts in Panama City. He also worked as a contract mail carrier for the postal service. After his retirement in 1990, he spent most of his time gardening and growing plants and flowers. Matthew loved life and the beauty of watching a new beginning. He never met a stranger and loved helping others. His smile and joy of life was shared by many; brightening their day. He was a good friend to all who knew him and will be greatly missed. Matthew attended Hiland Park Assembly of God in Panama City. To all that knew Matthew, may the sparkle in his eyes and the wonderous joy of living never fade from your memory. Matthew is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bernice; two sons, the Rev. Larry M. Powell and wife Joy of Durant, Fla., and Tony Powell of Panama City; two grandchildren, Christopher Powell and wife Holly, and Kevin Powell. Funeral services will be held in Evergreen, Ala., on July 7 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Harold Taunton officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. A memorial service will be held in Panama City on July 8 at 3 p.m. at Hiland Park Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Taunton officiating.

MICHAEL EUGENE TELKER
Mr. Michael Eugene Telker, age 57, of 338 College Ave., Panama City, Fla., died Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at a local hospital. He has been a resident of the area for 13 years, coming here from New Jersey. Mr. Telker was the captain of The Governors Stone out of Apalachicola, Fla. He was Catholic by faith and a 4th degree Knight of Columbus in New Jersey. Mr. Telker is survived by his wife: Philomena Telker of Panama City, Fla.; daughters: Michelle Elizabeth Eggers and her husband Charles Michael and Angela Theresa Telker, all of Panama City, Fla.; sons: Michael E. Telker, Jr., William John Telker and his wife Pipper, and Andrew Melchior Telker, all of Panama City, Fla.; three grandchildren: Madelen Eggers, Charles Michael Eggers, and Nicholas Eggers; brothers: Joe Telker of Tennessee and John Eggers of Missouri; and a sister: Theresa Glover of Missouri. He was preceded in death by a brother: William Telker. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2001 at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Father Fulham officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today July 6, 2001 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

ALFRED H. STUDT
Mr. Alfred H. Studt, age 82, of Panama City Beach, Fla., passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2001. He was born Aug. 7, 1918 and he had been a resident of the Regency Towers for 15 years. He was a graduate of Tri-State University. Mr. Studt was a veteran of World War II, serving on both fronts. He was the officer in charge of th 3rd Army Corps of Engineers under George Patton. Mr. Studt was a 50-plus-year employee of Bechtel Corp. He is survived by his daughter: Jean Gunnell and her husband Bill of San Marino, Calif.; a granddaughter: Christine Gunnell, also of San Marino, and a grandson: Stephen Gunnel and his wife Sara Lida of Newport Beach, Calif. Mr. Studt will be missed by his caregivers: Maria Conway and Inez Sorenson. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

FOY D. WATFORD
Foy D. Watford of Panama City Beach, Fla., died July 3, 2001 at his home after a brief illness. He was born March 8, 1913 in Jackson County, Fla. to Sarah and Ira Watford. After working in the Northwest Florida area for the Farmers Home Loan Administration, he went to Washington, D.C. in 1937. There he worked at the U.S. Capitol until he went to work for the War Department shortly before World War II. He spent part of his time with the Allied Supreme Headquarters in London. Upon his return to Washington, he met and married Mary McNeely in 1945. She predeceased him after 52 years of marriage. He remained in the Washington, D.C. area after his retirement until he moved to Florida in 1981. He is survived by his children: Nancy Roeder and husband Larry of South Riding, Va., Mary Watford Armes and husband Larry of Fort Myers, Fla., and Foy Watford of Panama City Beach. He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren: Foy, Kristian and Timothy Watford, Meaghan and Kate Armes and Nicholas Roeder. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren. He leaves his sisters, Janie Helland of Lynn Haven and Edith Grace Baggett of Columbus, Ga. He is also survived by his brother, Addist of Lynn Haven and many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, July 7at 11a.m. in Gulfview Methodist Church. Graveside services will follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Chipley at 2 p.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Watford Family Reunion Memorial Fund c/o 211 NW 23rd Drive, Gainesville, FL 32607.

ANNIE LOU CHESHIRE CROLEY
Ann Croley of Lynn Haven, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2001, in a local hospital. Born and raised in Chancellor, Ala., she moved to Panama City with her late husband, Ridgeway Croley and daughter in 1942. Together they had several small businesses, including Terry Ridge Drive-in, Lancaster's Garage, Standard Oil Gas Station and R.W. Croley Construction. Throughout her life, Ann was actively involved in churches in Panama City. The first was St. Andrew United Methodist, followed by First United Methodist of Lynn Haven after relocating there in 1958. Being a member of Lynn Haven Garden Club and a dedicated volunteer with Bay Medical Auxiliary were sources of great pride. Family, friends, church community and home were her joy. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Ridgeway Croley; her parents, Richard and Leila Cheshire and a sister, Catherine Cooley. Survivors include two daughters, Joyce and husband, Bill Miller of Aurora, Colo., Martha and husband, Bobby Stephens of Panama City Beach, grandsons, Brad Miller and wife, Dawn of Castle Rock, Colo., Ben Miller and wife, Kelsey of Sacramento, Calif., Aaron Stephens of Panama City Beach, great-grandchildren, Megan Miller, Ethan Miller, both of Castle Rock, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Lynn Haven with the Rev. Doug Pennington officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Those desiring to may make contributions to First United Methodist Church of Lynn Haven Building Fund, Hospice of Northwest Florida, or Bay Medical Auxiliary in memory of Ann Croley. For the wonderful continuous support during her lengthy illness, the family extends love and gratitude to friends, church family, Dr. Maria Parris, Hospice of Northwest Florida, and the staff of Glencove Nursing Pavilion.

Funeral services for Mr. Gilbert L. Mr. Bud Lewis, 92, of 900 E. Ninth Court died Friday, June 29, 2001, in a local hospital. He was a native of Columbia, Miss., and a resident of Panama City for over 70 years. Funeral services for Mr. Lewis will be held today, July 7, at 1 p.m. in Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church with the Rev. 0.C. Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church today from 10 a.m. until service time, and the cortege will leave A.D. Harris High School, 819 E. 11th St. at 12:3 0 p.m.

VADIE MARIE 'GRANNY' NELSON
Mrs. Vadie Marie "Granny" Nelson, age 71, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Thursday morning, July 5, 2001, at a local hospital. She was a native of West Virginia and had lived in Panama City for five years, moving here from Baxley, Ga. Mrs. Nelson was a homemaker and attended Westview Baptist Church. She was a former member of the Lady Elks, the Moose Lodge and VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Orlando. Mrs. Nelson is survived by her children: Linda and Chuck Clere of Panama City, Roy Kenneth and Debbie Napier of Wayne, W.Va., Patricia and Charles Leggett of Baxley, Ga., and Phyllis Ann and Gilbert Justice of Longwood, Fla.; a brother, Tom Rowe of Fairdale, W.Va.; 21 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 9, at Westview Baptist Church with Brother David Dean and Brother Larry Wade officiating. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sanford, Fla.

Mr. Homer V. Newman, Jr., age 75, of Parker, Fla., passed away Thursday, July 5, 2001, at his residence. He had been a resident of the area since 1955, coming here from Rome, Ga. Mr. Newman loved fishing and was of the Church of God faith. He is survived by his wife, Ruby A. Newman of Parker; sons, Homer F. Newman and his wife, Polly of Panama City and Roger C. Newman and his wife, Linda of Bowie, Md.; a daughter, Elizabeth J. McIntyre and her husband, Jimmy of Cartersville, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Cheryl Hendrix of Panama City; a sister, Dixie J. Cook of Lithia Springs, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 8 at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Shoots officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Shane Newman, Roger Newman, Jeff Carter, Kenny Carter, Charles Hendrix, and Ronnie Quattlebaum. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, July 7, from 6 to 8 p.m.
