Gusty H. Gariepy, Jr.

January 1, 1931 - December 2, 2005

Funeral service for Gusty H. Gariepy Jr., 74, 17th Street, Orange City, who died Friday, December 2, 2005, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 6, at Lankford Funeral Homes & Crematory Chapel. Calling hours are Monday from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Lankford Funeral Homes & Crematory, 220 E. New York Ave. Further services and burial will be in Beaver Pond, PA.

Mr. Gariepy was born in Centerville PA and moved to this area in 1979 from Lake City, Pa. He wanted to be the best father. He was a retired ice cream man. He was preceded in death by his son, Bruce Stahlman; brothers, Frank, Donald and Tommy Gariepy, sisters, Virginia Waid and Marjorie Lingo; and three grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Velma J. Gariepy, Orange City; five sons, Gary L. Gariepy of Eustis, Roy Gariepy of DeLand, Russell Stahlman of Osteen, Edward Stahlman of Crescent City and Dale Stahlman of Meadville, PA; two daughters, Jane Davis and Karen Okey, both of Dahlonega, GA; two sisters, Shirley Laird of Connesville, PA and Margaret Sterling of Tryonville, PA; three brothers, Kenneth Gariepy and Russell Gariepy, both of Lake City, PA and Robert Gariepy, Pennsylvania ; 32 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Shirley C. Nash
September 12, 1926 - December 1, 2005

Graveside service for Shirley C. Nash, 79, South University Circle, DeLand, who died Thursday, December 1, 2005, at her home, will be 1 p.m. Monday, December 5, at DeLand Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Slade Rickels officiating.

Mrs. Nash was born in Woodstock, IL and moved to this area in 1951 from Illinois. She was retired as a salesperson for Betty Drekas in DeLand for 30 years. She was dearly loved by her children and family and will be greatly missed.

Survivors inlcude two sons, Stephen Nash and Palmer Nash and two daughters, Linda Iauch and Kimberly Kropp, all of DeLand; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to West Volusia Humane Society, 800 Humane Society Road, DeLand, FL 32720.

John F. Kallis
October 1, 1914 - December 1, 2005

John F. Kallis, 91, of South Florida Avenue, who owned and operated The Fireplace Restaurant for over 15 years and the K.G. Corner Restaurant in Quincy, Mass., died Thursday, December 1 at Florida Hospital DeLand.

Mr. Kallis was born in Boston and came here in 1997 from Bethel, Maine. He was a winter resident of New Smyrna Beach since 1971.

Survivors include a son, John of Hingham, Mass.; a daughter, Tina Lieberg of Southbury, CT; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Alliance Center, 600 S. Florida Ave., DeLand, FL 32720.

Mark Steven Firek
January 9, 1964 - November 30, 2005

Funeral service for Mark Steven Firek, 41, Montrose Street, Orange City, who died Wednesday, November 30, 2005, at Florida Hospital, DeLand, will be 3 p.m. Sunday, December 4, at Lankford Funeral Home, DeLand, with the Rev. Michael Modica officiating. Calling hours will be from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday at Lankford Funeral Home.

Mr. Firek was born in Quantico, VA and moved here in 1996 from Fredericksburg, VA. He was general contractor and owner of MS Firek, Inc. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church, DeLand.

Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Firek and Stacey Firek, both of DeLand; two sisters, Sylvia and her husband, Kenneth Kent, of Arlington, VA and Gwendolyn J. and her husband, Daniel Hoopes of Winchester, VA; brother, James Michael Firek and his wife, Betty, of Fredericksburg, VA; two nieces and five nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to First Assembly of God, International Speedway, DeLand, FL 32724.

Walter B. Logan
March 11, 1959 - November 25, 2005

Walter B. Logan, 46, of Bent Oak Boulevard, a truck driver for Delco for seven years, died Friday at home. A native of Watonga, OK, Mr. Logan came here in 1975 from Hugo, OK. He formerly was an elephant trainer for the Cole Brothers Circus. He was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Sandra; a son, Walter III, and two daughters, Noelle Logan and Cheyenne Logan, all of DeLand; his father, Fred Logan of Osprey; two brothers, Fred Logan Jr. of Hugo, OK and Charles Logan-Yelloweyes of Houston; and five sisters, Naomi Logan of Osprey, Lillian Haverstrom of Kissimmee, Freida Pages of Myakka City, Eileen Osorio of Las Vegas, Mary Jo Zerbini of Sarasota.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129.

Ydolia "Dolly" Dominguez
November 11, 1926 - November 21, 2005

A gathering of friends for Ydolia "Dolly" Dominguez, 79, Valley Drive, DeLeon Springs, who died Monday, November 21, 2005, will be from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, at Hidden Valley Trailer Park Recreation Room, Reynolds Road, DeLeon Springs. Mrs. Dominguez was born in Havana, Cuba and moved to this area in 1972 from Miami. She owned and operated Dolly's Interior Design in DeLand for 17 years before retiring. She was a member of the DeLand Doll Club and St. Peter's Catholic Church, DeLand. She enjoyed making dolls.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Gil and Ginger Dominguez of DeLeon Springs; son, George Dominguez of DeLand; grandson and wife, Jason and Christie Dominguez of DeLand; great-grandson, Joel Dominguez, DeLand and two sisters.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 555 W. Granada Blvd., Suite A-1, Ormond Beach, FL 32174.

Dorothy Mary Marshall

December 23, 1921 - November 21, 2005

Dorothy Mary Marshall, 83, of West Wisconsin Avenue, a native of Ottawa, Canada, died Monday at Ridgecrest Manor. Mrs. Marshall, a homemaker, moved to this area this year from Arcadia. She enjoyed helping others and collecting monkey memorabilia.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Rockburn of DeLand and Rocky Rockburn of Staunton, VA; a daughter, Carole Catteron of Annapolis, MD; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Marie Jayne Smargis

December 22, 1941 - November 18, 2005

Funeral Mass for Marie Jayne Smargis, 63, E. Minnesota Avenue, DeLand, who died Friday, November 18, 2005, at her home, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 26, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, DeLand, with Father Tom Connery officiating. Burial will be Saturday at Oakdale Cemetery in DeLand. Calling hours will be from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday, November 25 at Lankford Funeral Home, 220 E. New York Avenue, DeLand.

Mrs. Smargis was born in Philadelphia, PA and moved to this area in 1998 from Brookhaven, PA. She was the treasurer of the Burrough of Brookhaven and was also a food demonstrator at Publix in Deltona. She was a member of the Women's Club in Brookhaven and the Antique Automobile Club of America.

Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Lawrence Smargis of DeLand; daughter, Lynn Dunn of DeLand; sister, Shirley Johnson of Lancaster, PA and two granddaughters, Anabelle Dunn and Aliyah Dunn, both of DeLand.

Leona G. Meyers
October 12, 1920 - November 17, 2005

Funeral service for Leona G. Meyers, 85, Senic Avenue, DeLand, who died at home Thursday, November 17, 2005, will be 11 a.m. Monday, November 21, at First Baptist Church of Orange City with Pastor James Hilton officiating. Burial will follow at DeLand Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, November 20, at Lankford Funeral Home, 220 East New York Ave., DeLand.

Miss Meyers was born in White, PA and moved to this area in 1956 from Scottsdale, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clayton and Milla Meyers, twin sisters, Sarah Jane and Mary Rene Meyers and her brother, Everett W. Meyers. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Orange City for over 40 years where she sang in the adult choir. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star #16, DeLand, and the Parkinson's Support Group, DeLand. She loved to travel.

Survivors include her sister, June E. Meyers of DeLand and brothers, Donnie E. Meyers and Navy A. Meyers, both of DeLand, Dayton W. Meyers, Pittsburgh, PA, and Cyrus M. Meyers, Indian Head, PA.

Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Orange City, 975 East Graves Ave., Orange City, or Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129.

C. Raymond Marshall
January 22, 1924 - November 16, 2005

Memorial service for C. Raymond Marshall, 81, born January 22, 1924, in Clarksburg, PA, who died Wednesday, November 16, 2005, at his home on 2nd Street, Orange City, will be 10 a.m. today (Friday, November 18) at Lankford Funeral Home, Orange City.

Mr. Marshall retired from Clinton County, PA, after 25 years as supervisor in the public schools. He also worked for Waits Department Store of Allied Stores in Pontiac, Michigan, as display director and for Troutman's Department Store in Indiana , PA. Because of Chris's health, his family members became snowbirds to this area from the time Chris was eight years old.

He attended Kiskiminetas Springs Preparatory School, Saltsburg, PA., Yale, New Haven, CT, received a bachelor of art's degree in education at State Teachers' College, Indiana , PA, now known as Indiana University of Pennsylvania . He was in Delta Sigma Chi, earning two honorary keys, one in art and one in education, and earned a master's degree in art education with a fine arts minor at University of Pennsylvania , Penn State, PA. He also attended Stetson University for a short period of time. He was a member of the Florida Federation of Artists at DeBary Hall, DeBary Art League and West Volusia Artists.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Marshall of Orange City, who provided for his care, his children, Linda Blain, Scott Marshall and Melanie Marshall and their children, Stafani and Natalie Blain, Timothy, Dominique and Andrew Marshall and David Dunegin and Nichole Marshall; sister-in-law, Clare Morton Marshall, and her daughter, Marlene Ashley, and her children and grandchildren.

William I. May

October 3, 1924 - November 15, 2005

William I. May, 81, of Dartmouth Road, who retired as a market manager for McGraw Edison Co., Canonsburg, PA, died Tuesday at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial, Orange City. Mr. May, an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, was born in Milan, PA and moved to this area in 1985 from Pittsburgh.

He was a member of the DeLand Country Club, the Blue Lodge Masons and the Scottish Rite Masons. He was a graduate of Penn State University and served as a director of the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed golf, woodworking, hunting, making jewelry and his dog Teddy.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Patricia; a son, James Hesler Jr. of Overland, KA; three daughters, Joan Carpenter of Berrington, IL, Joan Hesler of Annapolis, MD and Julie Dellingler of Rockville, MD; a sister, Naomi Davis of Bluffton, SC and eight grandchildren.
