Gussie Elizabeth Philips, 91, of 402 Center Ave., Panama City, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, in a local hospital. She was a lifelong resident of Bay County. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she was the oldest consecutive member. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Garrett Philips. Mrs. Philips is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Smith and her husband, Johnny, of Marietta, Ga., son, Russell Philips and his wife, Charlotte, of Lynn Haven; seven grandchildren, Ken Smith and his wife, Glynda, of Honolulu, Hawaii, Karen Williams of Marietta, Ga., Charles Philips and his wife, June, of Abbeville, Ala., Cathy Gilmore and her husband, Bill, of Eufala, Ala., Russell "Bubba" Philips and his wife, Michelle, Melissa Murphy and her husband, Steve, all of Abbeville, Ala., Melinda Estes and her husband, Robert, of Birmingham, Ala.; and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Adolph Bedsole and the Rev. Don Redmon officiating. Interment will follow in the Millville Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6-8 p.m. The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Bay Crest Nursing Home, 3 North of Gulf Coast Hospital, Dr. Azzam Adhal and Dr. A. Oussama Rifai for their excellent care.

ELMA LULA BUCHANAN RICHARDSON
Funeral services for Elma Lula Buchanan Richardson, 89, of 3916 Richardson Road, Panama City, who died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, in the Bay Crest Nursing Center, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Buchanan officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens with Eastern Star rites conducted at the graveside. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today. Active pallbearers are Wendell Owenby, William Richardson, Wayne Richardson, Jesse Dula, Ken Shealy, Harold McLeod, Rusty Thorpe, and Benny Buchanan. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Order of the Eastern Star Panama Chapter 102 and the Woman's Home and Foreign Missions Society. Those desiring to may make a contribution to the Millville Advent Christian Church in memory of Elma Richardson.

SARGENT THOMAS 'S.T.' SHIVER
Mr. Sargent Thomas "S.T." Shiver, 81, of Fountain died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, in Panama City. A native of Moultrie, Ga., he moved with his family to Panama City in 1965. He was a food service technician with civil service. A veteran of World War II, he received a Purple Heart while serving in the Philippines. He was a member and deacon of the Youngstown Baptist Church. Survivors include his devoted loving wife of 59 years, Lucille Addie (Plymel) Shiver; four daughters, Lindall Jean Cubley of New Iberia, La., Judy Kay Norton of Douglasville, Ga., Dorothy Ann Shiver Johnson of Fountain, Fla., Janice Caroll Bouchard of Panama City, Fla.; one son, Al Burkey of Panama City, Fla.; one sister, Hazel Vick of Moultrie, Ga., 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was precede in death by a son, Junior Shiver; and one sister, Margaret Watford. Funeral services will be held today, Oct. 23, at 1p.m. at the Youngstown Baptist Church off of U.S. 231 with the Rev. Bill Plazrain officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. RAYMOND EUGENE STEINBRECHER
Mr. Raymond Eugene Steinbrecher, 81, of 111 Christopher Drive, Panama City Beach, Fla., passed away Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at his home. Mr. Steinbrecher was born in New York City and had been a resident of Bay County for 18 years, coming here from Miami, Fla. He retired to Panama City Beach after careers in the Merchant Marine and U.S. Post Office, was a member of the AARP and attended Woodlawn United Methodist Church. Ray enjoyed making people laugh, and never missed an opportunity to share his jokes with friends and strangers alike wherever he went. Mr. Steinbrecher is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Steinbrecher of Panama City Beach, Fla.; one son, Raymond Steinbrecher Jr. and wife, Leah, of Panama City Beach, Fla.; one daughter, Robin Ross and husband, Barry, of Panama City Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren, Amy Elizabeth Ross, and Barry William Ross II, both of Panama City Beach, Fla. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 23, 2001.

ANGELINE DOWLING GRAY
Ms. Angeline Dowling Gray, 53, a lifelong resident of Panama City, Fla., died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at her home. Ms. Gray is survived by her brother, Russell Y. Dowling, and her fianc‚, Lewis B. McElreath, both of Panama City, Fla. Mr. McElreath wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice of the Emerald Coast, Drs. Nguyen, Beiswanger, Reed, Malamud, Nichols, Tumiel and Mahmood; Bay Medical Infusion Center, its nurses and staff. A special thank you to volunteers, Donald McElreath, Loretta Jackson, Lorna Lax and Lillian Welch. Thank you to Gaynell Soderquist, Jean Warriner, "Red" Brown, Jimmy and Petra Kelley, Ruth Whittaker, Lillie Pace, Lillian Leonard, Mary McEachin, Alton and Jean Evans, Deuel C. and Deborah McElreath Jr., Mary Holland, Richard and Jura Rainey, Betty J. Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow at a later date in Oakhill Cemetery in Newnan, Ga. DANIEL JOHN HAMRE
Mr. Daniel John Hamre, 45, of 4116 Sue Lane, Springfield, Fla., passed away Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at his residence. He was born in Madison, Wis., and moved to Panama City at the age of nine. Mr. Hamre was a 1974 graduate of Rutherford High School and spent four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict, after which he became a journeyman electrician. His deep faith in Jesus Christ sustained him through his battle with colon cancer and 16 years with multiple sclerosis, which left him a quadriplegic for the past 10 years. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. Mr. Hamre is survived by his parents, Phyllis and John Hamre of Springfield, Fla.; two brothers, James Hamre and his wife, Mary Jane, of Suwanne, Ga., and Sgt. 1st Class Andrew Hamre and his wife, Pennsri, of Clarksville Tenn.; two sisters, Rebecca Hubbard and her husband, Bryan, of Rockville, Md., and Elizabeth Redding and her husband, Chad, of Panama City, Fla.; and 11 wonderful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Dorothy and Freeman Murray, and his paternal grandparents, Myrtle and John Hamre. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 1001 W. 11th St., Panama City, Fla., with Dr. Wesley Toncre officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery with military honors conducted by Tyndall A.F.B. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are the elders of Trinity Lutheran Church, Jim Bledsoe, David Ammerman, Jamie Kirkland and Alvin Miller. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran "Kids Life Club" in memory of Dan Hamre.

KENNETH W. 'KENNY' HOWELL
Mr. Kenneth W. Howell, Kenny to all who knew him, was born June 11, 1955, and died Sunday, Oct.. 21, 2001, as the result of an automobile accident. Kenny stopped to help someone he did not even know. Kenny was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, nephew and friend. He is survived by his wife, Susie, whom he gave two children. Prized and precious son, Travis A. Howell, and Nick the poodle. Kenny is also survived by his adored daughter, Amy Melissa Klincik and her husband, Michael; two grandchildren, David and Michelle; Kenny's mother, Addie P. Howell, of Panama City; brothers, Jack Howell and his wife, Jean, Gerry Howell and his wife, Marie, and Danny Howell and his wife, Kerry; sisters, Jill Bass and her husband, Elzie, and Joan Mowry of Hampton, Fla.; and also his special nephew, George Bass and his wife, Denise. He was the beloved son-in-law of Jack W. and Jean Alexander; brother-in-law of Cassie Gray and her husband, Martin; and a dear friend of Paul Panunto of Louisiana. Kenny was uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry C. Howell. He was a dedicated and loyal employee of Tractor and Equipment Co. for 28 years. Through this employment he gained several more "family members." Kenny, along with his son and brother were active in drag racing, where he gained even more family members. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, at the Hiland Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Pickerill and the Rev. Curtis Kent officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Elma Lula Buchanan Richardson, 89, of 3916 Richardson Road, Panama City, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, in the Bay Crest Nursing Center. She was born in West Bay, Fla., and had been a lifelong resident of Bay County. She was a member of the Millville Advent Christian Church, where she served as choir director, organist, pianist, Sunday school teacher, deaconess, and with the Woman's Home and Foreign Mission Society, where she served as past president of the Florida and South Georgia Conference. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Panama Chapter 102, where she served as Past Worthy Matron, was a past member of the Panama City Garden Club and the Model A Club. She is survived by her husband, Renfroe Richardson, daughter, Virginia Vignali and her husband, Carl, all of Panama City; three grandchildren, Rosemary Woodhouse of Atglen, Pa., Linda Guevarez of Tampa, Fla., Carl Vignali of Lockhart, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Rachel Guevarez, Faith Guevarez, Vicki Woodhouse, Valerie Woodhouse, Rebecca Vignali; three sisters, Eula Clark of Pinckney, Mich., Louise Harrison of West Bay, Betty Dula and her husband, Jesse, of Panama City; three brothers, Oscar Buchanan and his wife, Juanita, of Chipley, Timothy Buchanan and his wife, Margie, of Panama City, and Clyde Buchanan of Marianna, Fla.; brother-in-law, Dr. W.W. Richardson and his wife, Loretta, of Graceville, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Seibert and her husband, Karl, of Elberta, Ala., and Juanita Buchanan of Panama City. WILLIE GENE SAWYER
Mr. Willie Gene Sawyer, 69, of Fountain, passed away Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at his residence. He was a native of Midland City, Ala., and had lived most of his life in Bay County. Mr. Sawyer was the owner/operator of Gene's Bait and Tackle and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He attended Youngstown Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing. Mr. Sawyer is survived by his wife, Imogene Sawyer, of Fountain, Fla.; his children, Doyle Yarbrough Sawyer of Bonifay, Fla., Teresa Madison of New York state and Michael Sawyer of South Carolina, and Willie Gene Sawyer II and Darryl Bud Sawyer, both of Fountain; two sisters, Martha Farmer of Columbus, Ga., and Zona Lee Sasser of Valley, Ala.; 20 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gene Hodges officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with military honors conducted by the U.S. Army. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Doyle Sawyer, Gene Sawyer, Darryl Sawyer, Jerry Croff, Jason Croff and Joe Croff. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Oct. 24, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m.
