A funeral Mass for Mrs. Ruth E. Lancin, 83, of Panama City Beach, Fla., will be held today, Nov. 14, 2001, at noon in the St. John's Catholic Church with Father Andrew Lewandowski officiating. The family will receive friends at the church two hours prior to the funeral Mass from 10 a.m. until noon.

BARBARA SPINKS
Barbara Spinks, 76, a longtime resident of Jacksonville Beach and a recent resident of Lynn Haven, died Saturday Nov. 10, 2001. Mrs. Spinks was a veteran of World War II. After raising her family she was employed at Ponte Vedra Club Realty for 17 years and retired in 1992. Mrs. Spinks was a member of Northside Baptist Church. Mrs. Spinks was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Robert L. Spinks. She is survived by her three children, Paige Lauwaert, her husband, Gerry, and their children, Cara and Adam; Chris Spinks, his wife, Sherrye, and their children, Cristin and Caleb Spinks and Jeffrey and Jennifer Kinnebrew; Kay McLendon, her husband, Mike, and their sons, Justin and Jeffrey; a sister, Frances Taylor of Montgomery, Ala., and a host of other relatives and friends. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m. at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 1701 Beach Blvd. Jacksonville Beach, Fla.

A funeral Mass for Mrs. Irene M. Swanner, 65, of Panama City, will be conducted today, Nov. 14, 2001, at 10 a.m. in St. Dominic's Catholic Church with Msgr. William A. Crowe officiating. The graveside committal service will be conducted by Pastor Jeff Thomas.

JOHN H. USHER
Mr. John H. Usher, 87, of Panama City, Fla., passed away, Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at a local nursing facility. He had been a resident of the area for 24 years, coming here for Okeechobee, Fla. Mr. Usher enjoyed fishing, gardening, and the outdoors. He was a member of the Brannonville Baptist Church. Mr. Usher is survived by his wife, Fern "Peggy" Usher, of Panama City, Fla.; two sons, John H. Usher Jr. of Birmingham, Ala., and George Thomas Usher of Dallas, Texas; a brother, Collie Usher of Savannah, Ga.; three sisters, Juanita Holbrook of Huntsville, Ala., Martha Rahn of Savannah, Ga., and Billy White of Wickenburg, Ariz.; a stepson, Robert B. Markham of Panama City; a stepdaughter, Linda J. Foster of Lynn Haven, Fla., five grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maude Usher, and a stepdaughter, Donna B. Howard. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 14, 2001, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Newberry officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Terry Jones, David Smith, Scotty Smith, James Surber, William Surber, and Keith Welch. The family will be staying at the home of Bobby Surber, 4325 Brannon Road, Panama City.

Funeral services for Mrs. Eva J. White, 93, of Springfield, Fla., will be conducted Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Fred Melvin officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 5 to 7 p.m.

ALBERT 'WILMER' WILLIAMS
Albert "Wilmer" Williams, 55, of 631 E. Eighth Place, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at St. Andrews Health and Rehabilitation Center. He attended the public schools of Bay County. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietname War. He was of Muslim faith but recently came to know the Lord and accepted Him as his personal savior. He was preceded in death by his mother, "A Devoted Prayer Warrior," Mrs. Flornell Williams. He leaves to cherish his memories six devoted and loving children of whom he loved dearly; a father beyond comparison, Mr. Walter Williams Sr.; seven brothers, Walter (Jennifer) Williams Jr., Arthur Lee (Mary) Williams, Jeremiah (Maggie) Williams, David Leroy (Dorothy) Williams, Vince (Karen) Williams, Terry and Terrance Williams; four sisters, Marion (Joe) Martin, MaryAnn (Richard) Jenkins Jr., Ann (Griffin) Carson and Amanda (Bernard) McQuirter; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Love Center Baptist Church with the Rev. Rufus Wood Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service. Visitation hours will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. and from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday. The family will receive family and friends at the home of Mr. Walter Williams Sr., 631 E. Eighth Place.

PHILIP A. PARKER
Pastor Philip A. Parker, 86, of Fletcher, formerly of Inverness, Fla., died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at his residence following a brief period of declining health. He was born in Parker, Fla., the son of the late Osgood Parker and Andeline Bowen Parker, and had lived in the Fletcher area for a year. He was employed by the Seventh Day Adventist Church for over 40 years as a pastor, missionary and administrator. He was most proud of his 21 years serving as a missionary in Burma. He was a member of the Fletcher Seventh Day Adventist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Irene Mudgett Parker; two sons, David W. Parker and his wife, Marilyn, of Jefferson, Texas, Dennis A. Parker and his wife, Tina, of Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter, Linda Cambigue and her husband, Arthur, of Jonesboro, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. this evening at the Fletcher Seventh Day Adventist Church. Elder Everett Marley and Elder Gary Tolbert will officiate. Burial will be held in Parker Cemetery, Panama City, Fla., at a later date. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Three Angels Broadcasting Network, P.O. Box 220, West Frankfort, Ill. 62896. Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors and Cremation Memorial Center, Hendersonville, N.C., are in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Marianne "Mickey" Williams Peterson, 81, of Tifton, Ga., formerly of Panama City, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, in Tifton, Ga. She was a longtime resident of Panama City and a member of First Baptist Church of Panama City. Mrs. Peterson was also a member of the St. Andrew Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 223, Rush L. Darby Court No. 28, Order of Amaranth, Jordon Shrine, White Shrine of Jerus, the Panama City Lodge Rebekahs No. 15, the Agappa Temple No. 155 Daughters of The Nile. She is preceded in death by her husband, T. Lee Peterson. Mrs. Peterson is survived by her brother, Robert I. Williams of Blairsville, Ga.; one sister, Mary A. Williams of Missoula, Mont.; special niece and family, Ann and Darrel Goodwin, Alyssa Goodwin, Eric Goodwin and Karen Baldree, all of Tifton, Ga. Funeral services for Mrs. Peterson will be conducted Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at 3 p.m. in the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

WILLIAM MERRITT POPE
William Merritt Pope, 84, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001. He was born Dec. 26, 1916, in West Bay, Fla. Merritt was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Edna Hutchison Pope, in 1996. He is survived by his daughter, Jane Prater and her husband, Jim; sons, Allen Pope and his wife, Mary, Bill Pope and his wife, Sherrie, and John Pope; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Merritt attended Bay High School and graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1939 at the head of his class with a degree in electrical engineering. He was a member of Pi Kappa Phi, Onicron Delta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Tau Beta Pi, President's Gold "T", Kappa Eta Kappa, Phi Delta Epsilon, Skull and Key, Yellow Jacket Club, AIEE, ANAK, Blue Print and Cheer Leader. He was a certified life underwriter and a member of the Million-Dollar Round Table for many years. He was also a member of the Elks Club for 50 years and a member of St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club, and Rotary Club. Graveside services for Mr. Pope will be held today, Nov. 15, 2001, at 3 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Walter Cathey officiating. Mr. Pope's nephews will serve as pallbearers: John Locke, Pat Adams, Mike Adams, Gus Hutchison, Ward Hutchison and Warren Hutchison. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today at 1:30 p.m. before the funeral service. Those who wish, may make contributions to the charity of your choice in memory of Merritt Pope.

MRS. JUANITA (MEDEA) SIMMONS BROXTON
Mrs. Juanita (Medea) Simmons Broxton, the daughter of the late Hal and Para-lee Long, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, in the INH Nursing Center in Fort Pierce, Fla. Funeral service will be held Saturday, Nov. 17 in Fort Pierce, Fla., at the Bethel Baptist Church. She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Geraldine Gainer of Panama City, Mrs. Edith Ruffin, Mrs. Betty Simmons Reynolds, Mrs. Mary Simmons William, all of Fort Pierce, and Mrs. Henrietta Simmons Meriweather of Detroit, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Cora Lee Williams and Mrs. Para-lee Boykins of Panama City; 20 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mrs. Marianne "Mickey" Williams Peterson, 81, of Tifton, Ga., formerly of Panama City, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, in Tifton, Ga. Bruce Raley officiating, followed by a Daughters of the Nile service. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. O.E.S. St. Andrew Chapter 223 will conduct Eastern Star grave rites. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.
