Elaine Gloria Vargo Kurz

August 18, 1926 - February 17, 2008

Funeral service for Elaine Gloria Vargo Kurz, 81, DeBary, who died Sunday, February 17, 2008, at Hospice of Volusia/Flagler in Orange City,will be 6 p.m. today (Tuesday, February 19) at Lankford Funeral Home, 220 E. New York Ave., DeLand, with Chaplain Steve Binkley officiating. Calling hours are today from 5 p.m. until service time.

Mrs. Kurz was born in Garfield, NJ and moved to this are from Moonachie, NJ in 1986. She was a homemaker and a member of Fleet Reserve in Sanford and VFW Post #8093.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Norman Kurz; son, Gary Kurz, Kansas; daughter, Judy Wittman, DeBary; sister, Kathy Pulver, Orlando; three granddaughters, Diane Meyer, Kim Pierson and Tammy Anderson; grandson, Eric Kurz; eight great-grandsons, Daniel Bradeen, Ryan Bradeen, Michael Pierson, Stephen Anderson, Austin Anderson, Hunter Anderson, Justin Kurz and Lucas Kurz; three great-grand-daughters, Amanda Bradeen, Kristen Bradeen and Desiree Pierson and two great-great-grandchildren, Karyssa Bradeen and Aiden Pierson.

George William Sexton

April 3, 1918 - February 20, 2008

Memorial service for George William Sexton, 89, DeLand, who died February 20, 2008 at Florida Hospital DeLand, will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 3, at Lankford Funeral Home, with the Rev. Owen Stricklin officiating. Private burial service will be prior to the memorial service at DeLand Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Sexton was born in Coatsville, PA and moved to this area in 1953 from Maryland. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a social service supervisor. He loved to sing and dance and loved music. He attended the First United Methodist Church in DeLand.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Sexton in 2003. Survivors include his daughter, Barbara A. Smith, Silver City, NM and grand-daughter, Charity Smith, DeLand.

Mae Dee Yancey Clifton

September 24, 1914 - February 23, 2008

Funeral service for Mae Dee Yancey Clifton, 93, DeLand, who died February 23, 2008 at her home, will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 26 at Stetson Baptist Church, 1025 W. Minnesota Ave., DeLand, with the Rev. Reggie May officiating. Burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may call 1 hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Clifton was born in Nashville, GA and moved to this area in 1933 from there. She was a member of the Stetson Baptist Church since 1934, served on the counting committee for over 25 years and was a Sunday School Teacher. She was a member of the Civitan Club, Business and Professional Women's Club and the W.M.U. Women's Club.

Survivors include her daughter, Margaret Lee, DeLand; three brothers, J.T. Nix, Nashville, GA, Ulmar Nix, Oklahoma City, OK, Billy Nix, Lakeland, GA; five sisters, Betty Martin, Nashville, GA, Dean Connell, Nashville, GA, Christine Burch, Jacksonville, FL, Ernestine Browning, Reidville, GA, Glenda Bailey, Nashville, GA; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129 or the Building Fund of the Stetson Baptist Church.

Manda I. Downing

October 14, 1915 - February 27, 2008

Funeral service for Manda I. Downing, 92, DeLand, who died February 27, 2008 at her residence, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at Lankford Funeral Home, 220 E. New York Ave., DeLand, with Pastor William Yesse officiating. Burial will be at DeLand Memorial Gardens. Calling hours are from 9:30 a.m. until service time at Lankford Funeral Home.

Mrs. Downing was born in Detroit Lakes, Minn., and moved to this area in 1988 from Eustis, FL. She was a homemaker and a member of the Emmaus Lutheran Church, Orange City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Downing.

Survivors include her son, Eugene Downing, DeLand; daughters, Marge and Earl Gentry, and Arlene and Lance Borows, all of DeLand; sister, Anna Kersting, Waubun, Minn.; sister-in-law, Evelyn Adler, Minnesota; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, c/o West Volusia Center, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129 or to the Emmaus Lutheran Church, 2500 South Volusia Avenue, Orange City, FL 32763.

David Gabriel Partida

August 13, 1971 - February 28, 2008

David Gabriel Partida, 36, passed away February 28, 2008, in a fatal car accident. He was a loving father and husband. He was employed by Foster Wheeler as a pipe superintendent. He enjoyed mountain biking, four wheeling, barbequing, working on cars and spending time with his family.

David is survived by his wife, Charla of DeLand; three sons, Randel, David, Gordon, all of DeLand; stepson, Cecil, Crosby, Texas ; his parents, Johnny and Janie Partida, Baytown, Texas ; his brother, John Partida, also of Baytown and his grandparents, Escsiquio and Annie Ybarra, Cuero, Texas . He is also survived by many other relatives, friends and close co-workers, Steve, Brian, Adam, Jason and Confessor. His passing leaves an enormous void in the lives of his loving family and friends.

Memorial service will be held Monday, March 3, at 6 p.m. at Lankford Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until service time.

Archie M. Wilson

June 8, 1927 - February 28, 2008

Funeral service for Archie M. Wilson, 80, Deltona, who passed away Thursday, February 28, 2008, at Shands at the University of Florida, Gainesville, will be Thursday, March 6, at 7 p.m. at Lankford Funeral Home, 220 E. New York Ave., DeLand. Calling hours will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held Friday, March 7, at 2 p.m. at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.

Mr. Wilson was born in Wildwood, Florida. He served in the Navy during World War II and moved to this area from Ft. Lauderdale in 1977. He was a member of the IBEW, NRA, Bass Anglers Sportsman Society, the American Legion Post 400 in Orlando and the North American Fishing Club. Mr. Wilson was a retired electrician with Florida Power and Light.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen Wilson; two sons, Mark Wilson, Deltona and Charles Wilson, Blackshear, GA; four daughters, Patricia Pollock, Deltona, Nancy Drannen, Jacksonville, Shiralynn Dyal, Summerville and Norma Jean, Wildwood; brother, Arnold Wilson, Tampa; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Norman E. Seachrist

March 13, 1932 - March 1, 2008

Memorial service for Norman E. Seachrist, a loving husband, father and grandfather, who passed away March 1, 2008, will be held Saturday, March 8, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 115 E. Howry Ave., DeLand, FL.

Mr. Seachrist was born March 13, 1932 in Sellersville, PA and moved to DeLand in 1973 as a plant manager at Ardmore Farms. He then continued to work in the food industry as a chemical engineering account manager until his retirement. He was a member at First United Methodist Church DeLand since 1975. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the 101st Airborne. In addition to spending time with his family, Mr. Seachrist enjoyed music and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughters, Chris (Gary) Merrill, Safety Harbor, FL, Ruthie (Mike) Granger, Orlando; son, Norman Seachrist, II, DeLand; granddaughters, Alexis and Kendall Merrill; sisters, Esther Linberger, Sellersville, PA, Ruth Seachrist, Lansdale, PA, Linda Benner, Barto, PA, Betty Kulp, Harleysville, PA; brothers, John Seachrist, London, Canada and Richard Seachrist, Chalfont, PA.

The family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to First United Methodist Church, Debt-Retirement Fund, 115 E. Howry Ave., DeLand, FL 32724; Florida United Methodist Children's Home, 51 Main St., Enterprise, FL 32725-8186; Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 1625 Veterans Memorial Parkway, Orange City, FL 32763.

Dorothy Herrlich Furlong

November 11, 1925 - March 4, 2008

Dorothy Herrlich Furlong, 82, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at Florida Hospital DeLand. Dorothy was born in Baltimore, MD and moved to DeLand in 1997. She worked her entire career as a registered nurse in the maternity ward at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore.

She is survived by her six children, Barbara Furlong, Summerfield, FL, Stephen (Leslie) Furlong, Shrewsbury, PA, Susan Looper (Jim), DeLand, Joan Fridley (Phil), Menomonee Falls, Wis., Cindy Smith (John), Baltimore, and Neale (Maureen) Furlong, Ormond Beach; sister, Alice Kelly, Baltimore; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 1, at the First United Methodist Church in DeLand, at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Steven Van Amberg officiating.

Marie Zwicker Parr

March 7, 2008

Marie Parr, the daughter of Dr. Edward and Diane Zwicker, departed from this life Friday, March 7, 2008. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. She left two daughters, Patricia Hutchinson (25) and Melissa Nichols (15); three sisters, Jeannie Zayas, Kathleen Paulk and Lorie Mims; eight nieces and four nephews.

After high school she attended the Fort Lauderdale Institute of Art for two years. In the past she owned a sign business entitled Pan-O-Rama Signs in the DeLand area. Marie had also worked in her father's dental practice with him and Dr. Prakash. Marie's loving heart led her to her most recent career with Inclusion Care faithfully providing care to those with developmental disabilities. She was like a "Mom" to many and enriched their souls. She was upbeat, full of zeal and always gave her love, time and attention to those she served and to her co-workers. And as a last act of her love she donated her organs to give life to others.

Marie had always made it known that she wanted a "CELEBRATION OF LIFE" which fits her deep spiritual conviction and intense Love of Jesus Christ. Such a celebration will take place Friday, March 14, at 6 p.m. in the Alpha Omega Room located to the rear of St. Peter's Catholic Church, DeLand, Deacon Ed Rinderle officiating. An additional celebration of her life will be at First Baptist Church, Daytona Beach, where she was a member known as a vibrant, joy-filled Sister in Christ. This Christ-centered celebration will be officiated by Pastor Lowell Lucas at 118 N. Palmetto Ave., Daytona Beach, FL 32114 at 11 a.m. Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, Marie would like everyone to Praise Jesus and make love offerings for her children's future and/or donations made to Easter Seals.

Rev. Merrick Andrew Danforth

August 16, 1923 - March 10, 2008

Funeral service for the Rev. Merrick Andrew Danforth, 84, Lake Helen, who died March 10, 2008, at Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, Orange City, will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 319 West Wisconsin Ave., DeLand, with Father W. Donald Lyon officiating.

Rev. Danforth was born in Concord, NH. He was a Navy World War II veteran. He was ordained a priest in the Episcopal Church in 1966 and retired in 1987. He was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, DeLand, where he assisted after retiring.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jean Danforth; son, James Merrick (Gynith) Danforth, Rock Springs, GA; and daughter, Marna Jean (Jack) Blake, Lyndhurst, Ohio; three grandsons, Ryan M. Dennison, John Michael Blake and Benjamin Andrew Danforth; granddaughter, Kelley Marie Blake; great-grandson, Austin Dennison; and great-granddaughter, Alexis Dennison. Memorial donations may be made to St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 319 West Wisconsin Ave., DeLand, FL 32720 or Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129.
